10 October 2021The day before my flight back to my dorm was quite a hectic one, it's filled with me packing my luggage –socks, underwears, shirts, pants, formal wear, personal care essentials, all checks and done! I think I've packed everything i need, and if i forget anything, I'll have my parents post it to me. Though, I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back yet after all there's no face-to-face classes. I'm sure everyone else is still at their homes. But I'm not sure why my parents still want to send me to the dorm. Isn't it safer if when everything is locked up and I'm with my family?Today has been a truly strange day. Everything feels off and wrong, and there's an eerie aura that seems to warn me against leaving. Out of nowhere, a glass suddenly shattered on the table, despite no one touching it and no heat nearby. Everyone rushed to the dining room, including our house cat, Golden, that has been sleeping on my lap, startled by the unexpected noise."The glass must have been too old. That's why it breaks. I'll go clean it up." Mom determined that the glass must have been too old, which explained it's sudden abrupt shattering. She swiftly moved to the dining table to clean up the fractured pieces scattered on the table as well on the floor as if they had been flung rather than simply breaking on their own.However, one of my sister quickly disagreed."I bought that glass just a few days ago," she said, her voice filled with bewilderment, it was something that is difficult to understand and very unexpected. "It was still brand new... How could it have broken on it's own just like that?"Mom in attempt to downplay the situation by saying,
"Perhaps it has been sitting on the store shelf for quite some time, and no one has been buying it. Maybe that's why it broke so suddenly." She was honestly trying to avoid everyone speculating about paranormal stuff, especially to prevent alarming my younger sister, who was only 10 years old at the time.Katherine then looked at my face and then to my mother's then shrugged her shoulders, reluctantly agreed and sarcastically saying, "Yeah, fine. Sure. Whatever, then." She then picked up Golden who was sitting and wiggling her tail observating us, from the floor and walked away from the dining room."Mom, i don't feel good. I don't think i can go tomorrow. Can i just not go?" I spoke up, breaking the silence as Mom brushing away the small bits and pieces of the shattered glass."But you already bought the ticket for your flights""We can move the date or just cancel them""It's for your studies. You must go what if there's suddenly a physical classes and not the online one?""But only some of us that are going and not all. Surely, the university won't be that cruel to do a physical class with just a few people in it.."Mom gave me a reassuring smile. Finally, she's done cleaning up the broken glass from both the table and the floor. She responded, "Alright, go for a little while. If confirmation comes that there are no physical classes, you can always come back home." Her gentle tone reassured me and made me feel at ease.I nodded my head in agreement, returning her warm and gentle smile at me. "Yeah... you're probably right. I'll just go ahead and continue packinb my things. Thank you, mum. I love you!" I turned to walk away and head to my room.As i entered my room, i noticed our cat, Golden, staring and hissing at the corner with all her back fur standing on end. A strange chill hung in the air, something felt off and I couldn't quite shake the unsettling feeling."Meow.. heree come. What are you looking at?" I called her with curiosity and worries in my voice. Golden walked over to me, and I picked her up off the floor. "Come on, baby. Lets get you a treat." As i carried her out of the room, i cast one last concerned glance back at the corner before quickly leaving.(At night the same day | 11:30 p.m.)I couldn't seen to get any rest. For the past few hours, I'd been tossing and turning in bed, struggling to fall asleep. my heartbeat quickened, and I felt a wave of panic and fear wash over me. Something felt off and wrong. I couldn't shake the feeling that something bad might happen. I didn't want to go there tomorrow. No, no. I'll just splash some water on my face and maybe that'll clear my mind and calm my racing thoughts.As i stepped out of bed, a chill passed by me, the same chills I had felt earlier in the evening when Golden had been hissing at the corner of my room. I cautiously opened my door, and the cold air hit me again. I carefully stuck my head out and looked down the hallway, where i noticed a dark, shadowy figure heading towards the living room.I called out to the figure in the hallway, unsure of who it could be. "Mom? Is that you? Jess? Rach?? Kath???" It was unusual for my family to be up at this late hour; they usually turned to bed quite early, well before I did. Could it be them?As i stepped out of my room, intent on following the dark shadowy figure, I was unexpectedly stopped by Golden. She walked in front of me and caught one of my legs, she then meowing urgently, signaling for me to pick her up from the floor."Ahh! Baby, you scares me.. My poor heart! Are you gonna join me peeing today?" I lifted Golden into my arms and carried her to the bathroom, placing her on the counter near the sink. I quickly attended to my business, and as i looked at her wriggling her tails left and right, I asked, "Who was it? Was it one of our family members?."Golden gently licked my forehead, followed by cleaning her own fur. Maybe she was trying to reassure me not to worry or perhaps warning me off from following the shadow again. After done, I washed my hand and carry Golden up to my head, as protection from anything and I ran as fast as i could to my room without looking at the hallway down to the living room. I placed Golden on my chest as i get comfortable under the blanket, Golden's purrs really calms me and helps me fall asleep faster.
