“You idiot.” Poseidon rasped, a dark chuckle evident in his voice. He lay against the rocks behind him, water raging around violently. Penelope herself stood on the rocks, staring at the sky. “Can’t you see? You sealed your fate, just to beat me. You released my storm when you opened that bag.” He grinned “Blocked your one way home, now you’ll never get back.”The sky had turned an ominous slate grey, thick clouds churning like a cauldron in the heavens, casting a dark pallor over the vast, raging sea below. Towering waves rose and fell in a frenzied rhythm, their crests foaming white as they broke, crashing down with thunderous roars. The wind howled, fierce and relentless, slicing through the salty air and whipping up torrents of spray that stung like needles. In the distance, flashes of lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating the angry, writhing surface of the water for a brief, electrifying moment. The storm’s fury felt boundless, as if the sea itself were alive and thrashing, defying the sky above.Penelope turned to Poseidon, rage and coldness pierced eyes stared at the God of the Sea. She looked inhumane, and growled in a command, “You’re going to call off that storm.”Poseidon laughed, a dark, terrible and evil sound. It echoed out into the howling winds, a cackle of madness and mockery. “Or what? You can’t kill me.”“Exactly.”The shing of the trident was sounded, and Poseidon’s eyes widened and Penelope weilded his own weapon. Dark and strong and powerful and angry. As she walked forward realization washed over his face like the tides of the sea.Penelope gripped the trident with both hands, her knuckles white as she raised it high over her head, fury blazing in her eyes. The god lay before her, his body heaving as he struggled against the unexpected wrath of a mortal’s touch. With a scream that tore from her throat, she drove the trident down into Poseidon’s chest.“Wait- wait- AGJH!” The prongs sank deep, and he howled, a primal sound that seemed to shake the heavens and churn the seas. No.He screamed, a loud painful cry as that sung like the symphony of the ocean. He choked out a gasp as golden blood splattered when Penelope ripped the trident out, raised it and with her strength pierced it through him again with a grunt, causing a louder, more piercing scream to rip from the God’s throat. “How does it feel to be helpless!?” She demanded, yelling out her own words now.She ripped out the trident once again and stabbed. A scream.“How does it feel to know pain?! I watched my friends die in horror!”Poseidon’s body twisted and thrashed under each blow, his muscular form writhing as Penelope struck again and again, her face set in a grim mask of anger and defiance. The great god of the sea was powerless against the tide of her rage, his power and pride dimming with each plunge of his own weapon.“Crying as they were all slain! I watched their final moments! Calling their captain in vain!” Her voice boomed like the thunder that surged above. She was dark and pageful and beautiful. An image of the greatest greek hero seemed to radiate from her. A mother’s rage, a wife’s rage, a woman’s rage. Poseidon’s golden blood covered her as she dripped with the salty rain water and gold, painting her as a fierce, deadly painting. The God howled in pain again, his voice seeming to rasp for air. His screams so melodic as they seemed like music to her ears. And then she raised it once again, smashing it down into his chest and twisting it deeper than before. “Look what you turned me into! Look what we’ve become! Poseidon screamed so loud her ears bled. The scream tore through the air, raw and guttural, a sound that seemed to scrape against the rocks and pierce the soul. She dripped golden.“Enough.” He rasped, but to no avail.“ALL OF THE PAIN THAT I’VE BEEN THOUGH!” Stab.“Stop!” He wailed, a stretched cry like a siren.“HAVEN’T I SUFFERED ENOUGH?!”“STOP!”She didn’t stop. Couldn’t stop. She went again, kicked her foot up against his chest to rip out the hooked trident, driving it into him again her muscles screamed to rest, but her mind screamed more. She would get back to Odeysseus. She would do anything. Poseidon’s chest was shredded, golden blood pooling and gushing out, covering her and bleeding into the raging sea.“You didn’t stop when I BEGGED YOU! TOLD ME TO CLOSE MY HEART!”“You..” He tried to form words, but another stab sent him reeling.“You said the world was dark!”“Monster!”Yes, she was. A monster, and she knew it. But she needed to be the monster, she would do anything to get back home. She would do anything for her husband, her son. She was in control now. She was the monster. As she ripped the trident out once more, raising it above her head, “DIDN’T YOU SAY THAT RUTHLESSNESS WAS MERCY UPON OU-““ALRIGHT!”Pause. She panted, seething heavily as the trident was still raised. But the God raised his hand, the storm clouds settling away. He choked out, panting, despreate for relief and peace. She watched with narrowed eyes and turned to look up at the clearing sky and sea. There was a silence as she dropped the trident and it clattered loud against the rocks. She took a breath, she would see them again. She furrowed her brows as she heard the now weak God speak.“After everything you’ve done, … how will you sleep at night?”The answer was obvious, it was clear. To Penelope that went through hell and back for the two people she loved. As she turned to face the oncoming ocean, she let herself drip gold.“Next to my husband.”
