Rain thundered from the outside of a tall building. The static of a radio began to play. “Coventry has fallen. Please report to the nearest shelter. If you are at home and unable to abandon your local area, Remain indoors and keep exits and entrances secured.” The sound of the borderline robotic lady pressed on the consciousness of many. This message had been specified to every major town and city at risk of their fall. The rain was too loud to hear running outside as suddenly a door next to the radio burst open.Zack, A teenage boy in a red shirt and jeans. His hair ruffled and brown chaotic in its own curly way. In his hand was a fire extinguisher as he yelled back to a couple others behind him. “None in here! Come on, block the door!” a second teenage boy came through. A blue hoodie with a green stripe diagonally across it. His skin was pale and he was surprisingly tall for his age. Roughly he was around 5 '11 at the age of 16. Quickly he shoved his long hair back looking around to find a cabinet. Seconds later a girl rushed through. Her hair was wavy with a mild sense of light brown curls. The girl was holding a pocket knife and wearing a black shirt, Brown Joggers and a silver ring. The boy with the blue hoodie started trying to shove the large cabinet in front of the door in a notable struggle. Zack soon joined in. “Henry hurry the fuck up” he muttered as he helped the other push. Quickly Amanda, The girl in brown joggers, Ran over to the door they had forced open. Whilst strange for a door to open inwards she was grateful. Instantly Amanda slammed the door as Zack and Henry shoved the cabinet in front of it.“I've watched enough youtube shorts to know how this goes down. We need knight armour.” Amanda spoke confidently as Zack shot her a disgusted glare. “And where in the absolute fuck are we going to get a set of armour. We have a fire extinguisher and a knife.” he sounded like he could've said worse. Henry stood there for a moment quickly turning around and looking outside the window letting his hair fall back into the front again. The rain was intense but it was probably the only thing that allowed them to keep yelling at each other. “Well I don't think we're getting down anytime soon.”Attention turned towards Henry as he walked back towards them with a slight tremble in his step. “How many are there?” Amanda asked. Zack unhelpfully replied for him. “Enough to stop us from leaving so obviously alot of them dipshit.” Amanda couldn't help but shoot Zack an irritated glare as she folded the pocket knife and put it into her pocket. She wouldn't dare herself to hold a knife whilst confronting her brother in the middle of an apocalypse. “Why are you pissy with me? It's not like I'm the one who bit. . .” She paused thinking about what had happened. Zack had tears forming in his eyes as did she.“Right. Yes, I'm sorry.” Zack started quickly turning away. He didn't want to cry but what was going to stop him from drowning in his tears. Henry walked over and put an arm around his shoulders which was surprisingly easy given the height difference between the two. Zack stood at around 5’6 with a pretty frail body type. Nobody was pleased with the events going on around them. Amanda sat down against the wall with a sigh. “I don't think we're going to be like the heroes in the movies” Zack turned again with slightly puffy but tired eyes. He walked over to the window on his right. Looking out he saw the exact same as Henry had earlier. There was a large horde of seemingly struggling slowly marching in one direction ominously. All of them had decaying skin and flesh exposed somewhere on them. Zack could've almost sworn he saw a dog running through the crowd. The dog however seemed pretty normal. Despite the rain being so intense due to sticking his head so close to the window Zack managed to hear phrases they were all saying. It was muffled by the storm however meaning he couldn't quite make it out. Soon enough he backed away.“We should check the fridge. See if the electricity here is even working.” Zack spoke quite firmly. Amanda was hesitant at first but Henry was quick to go and check. He entered the kitchen to a creak in a floor board. Glancing around he found a large fridge-freezer. Opening it up, There was nothing inside but a glowing light. Clearly whoever had lived here was quick to grab everything or simply had nothing in the first place. Either situation was odd but there was nothing he could do. “There doesn't seem to be anything in the fridge I'll check the freezer” Henry had a light bulb moment. The fridge had its light on rather obviously meaning the electric was in fact working. Awkwardly, that didn't really matter when there was nothing within the fridge. Henry then quickly opened the freezer to find some rather strange things. Completely frozen grapes, a pack of bacon as well as a jar of pickles. Nothing exactly great given none of them knew if the sizzling coming from bacon would draw them in. They hardly knew anything about what was happening to those people. “Some bacon and a packet of grapes. I suppose a jar of pickles too but I don't think any of us want that” Henry said mulling over the options.Amanda and Zack entered the kitchen which would have well been falling apart. Cracks covered the edges of the windows and there was a small hole in the ceiling. Not big enough for any people but maybe it could've fit a bird. “My guess is that the bacon would make too much noise,” Henry said, shutting the freezer and glancing towards the two who had just entered the room. “Yeah no that would make sense” Amanda walked towards the sink. She tried turning on one of the taps to zero success of water coming out. “That's strange, why would the water be cut off?” She asked both herself and the other two.“Maybe they didn't pay their water bills?” Zack said as the storm continued on outside until a loud roaring of an engine overpowered it. It was the sound of a plane. In the sudden shock Amanda and Zack ran over to the window, Zack pushing her out the way in the process. Henry's eyes widened as he quickly walked towards the same area only to stop when Zack was hogging it for himself. The red shirted boy glared up at the sky filled with clouds trying desperately to see the plane. The grey clouds blocked out any vision baring a dark figure ever so briefly in the sky.“Where are they going?” Amanda queried as she took a few glances over Zacks shoulders at the slow moving horde of people who almost seemed like they were falling apart. They were going the same way as the horde. “I think there's something important in that direction given it's the same direction as all the people are walking.” Zack said, evidently confused. “Then my best bet is that is where we walk away from.” Henry put his hand on Zacks's shoulder. The shorter boy took a few steps back, Amanda quickly filling his place as he wrapped his hand around Henry's waist.“I think we might be able to wait until at least most of them are gone and then try find something. We aren't going to last here exactly are we.” Zack proceedingly let go of Henry and walked over to a hall that led down to another door on the left. In theory it was a bathroom although it was a small apartment equivalent housing piece. The only sleeping place would have to be in the main room. Staring down the hall reminded him of so much. In what felt like a flash he was back there. He slowly walked down the hall as the walls and doors felt bigger. His heartbeat raced as he opened up one of the doors to see a man coughing. His father was lent over a chest at the bottom end of a bed practically throwing up blood as he tried desperately to grip onto things to stay standing up. He looked at Zack with bloodshot eyes as the child felt himself screaming. It was uncontrollable but rather suddenly he was pulled back. He felt Amanda grabbing his arm as he looked down an empty hall with one door again. He looked towards Amanda as she asked a question that seemed to fly over his head.It took a few eerie moments for him to realise he was back. “Sorry I didn't hear you?” He asked in concern for himself. “I said, are you okay?” The question rang in Zacks mind for a second. “Yeah I'm fine Amanda. I think this place just reminded me of dad.” He almost regretted saying it when Amanda looked visibly sick. Seeing what their father went through on his way to demise was terrifying. A knock on the door took them by shock.“Hello?” Said a voice carefully hidden away. There was immediately some off-putting smell as everything went quiet. The sound of something dripping and almost as if a buddle was growing out of mud. “I can smell you” not to mention this voice had a broken record machine sound to it. Not robotic in any sense, completely organic and broken. The door knocked again as Henry walked over to the two looking Zack in the eyes. The voice let out a hiss as it slammed into the door suddenly.Unable to get inside due to the cabinet the three teenagers eyed up their options. To their left a window that seemed to lead into an alleyway. To their right was a massive marching horde of infected people. Forward was a relentless person which might be infected. Correction; Definitely infected. Amanda got her knife ready as Zack tried opening the window on the left quietly. Henry went over to see if he could help whilst the cabinet began to move slightly. Zack whispered to himself. “Shit,” all of a sudden the slamming stopped and the dripping noise began again. It was just for a moment Amanda caught a glimpse of pooling grey and red blood spreading underneath the door.As the window opened Henry eyed up whether or not it would be safe to drop down. Without much time to analyse Zack grabbed Amanda's arm. Despite the quick flinch reaction she was quick to head out the window first with Zacks help. Fortunately there seemed to be some kind of extension making it much less of a drop than it would've been otherwise. Henry went next despite his attempts of getting Zack to. With a lack of argument the boy in a red shirt was starting to feel rather chuffed with himself until the infected person slammed into the door once more.Zack made his way down with the help of Henry due to his height. Glancing around at the surrounding streets there didn't seem much hope of this being the easiest escape route. The rain pelted against all of their clothes harshly due to the storm having come on rather suddenly as they ran up the stairs into the apartment. Henry let out a sigh as Amanda held her knife tightly. The rain being loud was a double edged sword. Both their sounds and the sounds of the infected were muffled and ceased. “If they can smell us, We can't hide anywhere too nearby.” The tall boy said in a depressed tone.“Bikes. We need bikes.” Amanda blurted as she looked around unable to see any in her line of vision. “Right! Yeah, They won't make as much noise and don't need fuel.” Zack said. “Nobody would've thought a youtube video might actually be useful in an apocalypse” Amanda started walking towards a corner without thinking. Henry rushed over and grabbed her, pulling her back. “Hey! Let go” came out. She was thinking worse obviously. “Don't just turn corners all of a sudden like that” Henry said in a calm tone.In return for his slight politeness with words after being let go Amanda gave him a slight glare. “Fine then you check.” Henry poked his head around the corner of the building. Nothing was there of course Zack was pretty sure his sisters yelling would've summoned them here if there was. “It's clear. There's also a bike.” Henry stepped out from the corner soon followed by the two siblings. Zack took a few steps ahead finding the bike. “Why is there just one? We need three, Or at least two.” The question was as obvious as thinking it over.“Life isn't that convenient friend.” Amanda spoke in a fake Texan accent. “What's that a reference to?” Henry asked genuinely curious. “Now is not the time for refferences whatsoever what on earths tiny fucks makes you think it is?” Zack snapped suddenly in frustration. Amanda would've made a joke but she was just tired of the snapping. “Not done with that I see.” She commented which got a rather quick reply. “It's the end of the world. Am I meant to just stand here and joke? Seriously.”Henry interrupted with a slight frown. “Sorry, Zack.” Zack looked at Henry and his expression turned notably more sorrow. “No I'm sorry it's fine.” He replied. “Googly homosexual eyes. So fun. Moving on, let's go grab that bike and try to find more, Yeah?” Amanda moved the conversation along. She couldn't just be a third wheel in the apocalypse that would be one of the single worst situations to be in. She took the lead and walked across the road to grab the bike. Courtesy of tradition she looked left and right as she did so. It was like watching for people instead of cars.Zack and Henry soon arrived right afterwards. “Wonder who owned this bike?” Amanda began inspecting it. She found a name written on the back which was incredibly odd for something that wasn't a motorised vehicle. Reading it out she said; “Joseph Kimono.” It was a very unique name to say the least and could've easily been shortened to the two starting letters but there was no reason to complain. “Bet she was a good author and a bad person.” Henry was immediately met with confusion by the other two. “Since when was Joseph a girl's name?” Zack asked as Henry blinked, refusing to add context.“Okayy then” Amanda said walking a few steps as she dragged the bike with her. The lovers followed her as she glanced around looking for something. Empty grey streets pelted with rain as storm clouds stretched for miles. “Britain. Brilliant, Isn't it?” She asked sarcastically with the ever so slight bit of humour in her mouth. “That joke is rather overused don't you think?” Zack added unhelpfully. “Oh shut up” The girl had been thoroughly tired by Zacks repulsing belittling but she couldn't do much. It was surreal seeing such an empty place where people usually roamed. The infected must've all been in the same place which was especially odd.“Hey a thought just occurred to me.” Zack caught up with Amanda followed by Henry. “Oh what is it this time, I'm walking wrong?” She asked in frustration. “No, you're walking fine. My thought was that maybe the plane was going towards a rescue zone.” Henry seemed to hold back his words on a tight leash as Amanda worked up a reply. “Well the infected are going that way as well. By the time we got there I do not actually think it would be safe.” Henry stopped looking so adamant to say something as if Amanda stole the words straight from his mouth.“If we manage to find more bikes, or one of us dies and two of us can just keep riding towards it.” The boy with a red shirt only began to realise how bad that sounded when Amanda started looking offended. “What the fuck?! Why would your mind go in that direction!” She yelled at him in frustration as he took a step back. “I don't think he meant it quite like that” Henry said as Amanda suddenly rolled her eyes and speed walked ahead just a little.“I'm so done with you Zack.” Amanda muttered.
