After the Wicked Came

Work Text

They say that no one mourns the Wicked, perhaps because the Wicked mourn no one either. Whatever the case, some have seemingly changed for good. Elphaba the Western Witch made everyone, including her friend Glinda the Southern Witch, believe she had finally died just from a splash of water by Dorothy Gale of Kansas. Well, almost everyone anyway, as Fiyero the Scarecrow fled with her across the great shifting sandy wastes and impassible deadly deserts, and away from the Land of Oz, vowing to never return, ever. While Glinda sentenced Madame Morrible to prison and forced the Wizard into exile, never to return, ever. Bittersweet enough as it is, all still turned out well in the end anyway, right?

Well sometimes, after even the most happiest of endings, things may not always be so happy anymore. In fact, some things might go from bad to worse. Without a Scarecrow to rule the Emerald City, without Dorothy to return to Oz, and without Ozma to reclaim her rightful place on the throne. For after the Wicked, came the Nomes, watching and spying over everything in Oz from every rock and hard place, seeing every affair with ice-cold eyes, and feeling nothing with stone-cold hearts. Having been informed of the disappearances of Dorothy, Elphaba, and the Wizard, the King of the Rocks himself, Roquat the Red, rose up to take on the opportunity to strike, especially when no one in Oz would ever expect such an invasion.

With his allies, Mombi the Wicked Witch of the North and her green elephant army, General Jinjur and her soldier army, and Princess Langwidere and her Wheeler army, he was able to surround and conquer the Emerald City if not all of Oz, especially with the combined use of his powerful magic belt and the equally powerful Silver Slippers. Not even an egg could stop him, for if water cannot kill a witch in this Oz, how could an egg kill a nome? Anyone who would've stood up and fought back had been dealt with easily, the Cowardly Lion had been skinned into a rug and coat, Boq the Tin Woodman had been chopped up into dented pieces and his remains were either smelted or hung up on a mantlepiece, Madame Morrible had been executed and her head added to Langwidere's collection, and the Wizard himself had been exposed to his former citizens for the "wicked humbug" he was before being publicly hung.

As for Glinda herself, she would've stopped all this, she wanted to stop all this, but not only was Roquat able to best her in a challenge, he was able to bend her far to the point of breaking to his dark twisted will. For he saw no greater pleasure than seeing the submission of the innocent, the corruption of even the most purest soul. Now, Glinda was an empty-hearted puppet under Roquat's seductive control, using the Grimmerie to achieve greater power and punish all who dared threaten the new regime. All of the Animals were able to speak again, including Doctor Dillamond, but even they had to oblige to the King's rule, while anyone with anti-Animal sentiments had their power of speech taken away completely, able to be seen but never heard of again.

Without Dorothy, without Fiyero, without Elphaba, no one.

Can anyone save us?

Can someone save us?

Can you save us?

Can you save the Wicked?

All hail Roquat the Red!

All hail the King of the Rocks!

All hail the Nome King!
