Work Text
Tsukasa sat at his desk, a box of christmas cards open to his left. He was hunched over an open card that had no writing in it. He had his computer next to the computer and was searching for things to write. Sue him, he was never the best with words especially putting them on paper. He just never figured out how to put what he feels into such a boring medium, he'd much rather get people gifts, that way he can make sure they like them.
Yet here he was, writing Christmas cards for his teachers, which was new. He never used to always easier to get them a small gift, like chocolate or stationery. He thought this would be easier but it wasn't. He really should have stuck to gift giving.
“Tsuka~” a voice called out. “What are you doing?” He turned around to see his twin standing in the doorway. She had her arms crossed and she looked at him playfully.
“Trying to write cards for people, it is my last day before exams,” he turned back to the cards and began writing a salutation for the first card. Suddenly he felt a pressure on his back and turned, face to face with Saki.
She looked at the card he had barely written in and sighed. “This isn't going to go anywhere, i dont get why you decided to try again.” She put a gentle hand on his shoulder.
He only tried again because mother had told him it is the best way to show respect. He was wondering how true it actually was.
“I'm a lyricist, I should be able to write a simple card goddamn it!” he exclaimed. It was true, he should be better at this, yet it felt different. He didn't know how to express himself in that way. Not anymore.
“Come on you bum! Me and Touya planned an entire outing today, yet you are all hollered up writing cards to people who don't matter,”
“They matter to me, I want to be a teacher, but there is not much I can do, they deserve a thanks from me,” he curled inwards. “It's the least I can do for people who have to look out for me,”
Saki looked at Tsukasa's curled form and quietly moved to his bed. “You don’t owe them anything, it's not your fault you can't actually talk to them sometimes, that's out of your control,” she said. “But you can control how upset this makes you,” Tsukasa turned to look at her. She continued. “Just because you couldn't do something doesn’t mean they hated you, hell Tsuka you probably were the best student they had!”
Tsukasa just stared at her. He knew that because he couldn't always trust his voice he was frowned upon but he also knew that it was never his fault. He supposed that she was right, the highest scores in all his classes showed that he was probably liked by some of the teachers.
“I guess you are right…” he muttered.
“Hah! Now come on, we have a cafe to go to!”
Tsukasa softly laughed as he stood up to follow his twin. Watching as she ran out of his room calling for Touya who Tsuksa knew was sleeping. Cold nights had a later night and he was just lucky Saki didn't catch the way his eyes drooped while he was writing.
He supposed he could write the christmas cards later, maybe with input from Yoru, she was always good at forming feeling words. Yeah he will do that later he still has one day, for now he was content as he and his most treasured family members went out.
“Tsuka, it's… IT'S SNOWING!!” Saki exclaimed as she ran outside. Tsukasa laughed as Touya walked out behind her. “Come onnn! The cafe has an outside area so we have to go see it!” She grabbed Touyas arm as Tsukasa finished locking up the house.
“W-wait Saki,” Touya called out as she dragged him along “we have to wait for Tsukasa-nii!” Tsukasa turned to look at Touya from his place on the front porch before walking towards the duo.
“Thanks for waiting, Touya, now where is this cafe, i hope to have some potato,”
“The place doesn't have that,” Saki looked away. “But we can find something else!”
“I don't really mind,” Tsukasa said, “if it has anything I like I will eat it,” he walked ahead of them before stopping. Waiting for the other two to catch up.
The two caught up quickly and as soon as they did the three walked arm in arm towards the cafe.
If you asked Tsukasa the best part of his day normally, he would have said ‘getting home and sleeping’ but today, he thinks he enjoyed the small moment of sibling bonding that the failed Christmas cards brought.
