alora's pov:In the course of our lives, there are instances when we remain blissfully ignorant of the cruel truths that life has to offer. We speak words without fully comprehending their profound implications, yet I have been painfully aware of life's brutality since the very moment I drew my first breath. My left eye, regrettably, did not develop as it ought to have, and this flaw filled my parents with a deep-seated revulsion. In their contempt, they demanded that the doctors provide me with a substitute, which only intensified their horror, for the replacement was nothing more than a mere button. As a result, they forsook me at an orphanage. There, I was given the name "Button," a cruel mockery of my appearance that became my placeholder identity. Families who visited the orphanage regarded me as nothing more than a lifeless doll, while the other children mercilessly taunted me, declaring that I would eternally remain an orphan due to my looks. I was branded a "freak of nature," and the warmth of friendship was forever out of reach. That is, until one fateful day when I found myself isolated from the other children, avoiding conversation and connection, when the caretaker called me forward."Button!" she exclaimed, beckoning me to approach, much to my irritation. I made my way to the front desk, where Mrs. Hoffman stood alongside a woman. "Button, this is Ms. Torres; she wishes to adopt you," Mrs. Hoffman explained, leaving me in a state of disbelief. After seven long years of being met with disgust, could it be that someone actually desired to adopt me? "Um... hello?" I uttered, uncertain of how to process this unexpected turn of events."Hi there, button. I'm Emily, but you can just call me mom," she said, extending her hand for a shake. As I reached for my things, I felt a strange mix of emotions; I was finally leaving the orphanage. I had only glimpsed the world outside through the window, never truly experiencing it, except for those fire drills. I turned to Ms. Torres, my heart racing with doubt and anxiety. "Why did you choose me?" I asked, my voice trembling. "Why me, out of all the other kids, especially with my eye..."Emily chuckled, kneeling down to my level as she smiled "because I don't care about appearance, I believe that its good not to judge a book by its cover" she explained, making me tear up, this was the first time an adult besides the caretakers has ever said something nice to me, I ran up to hug her, sobbing as she comforted me. "I love you mom" I said, sobbing my heart out as she picked me up, taking me hometbc...
