Work Text

Admiral Kathryn Janeway rested her hands on her swollen belly, a tender smile tugging at her lips. In her guest quarters aboard the USS Titan. garlands of replicated holly adorned the shelves, and a small tree sparkled in one corner. Christmas music played softly in the background as she gazed out the viewport at the streaking stars.

The comm chirped. “Janeway here.”

“Kathryn,” Chakotay’s warm voice came through, his tone a balm even across the stars. “How’s everything on the Titan?”

“Peaceful for the moment,” she replied. “I’m counting the minutes until we’re together. Christmas isn’t the same without you.”

“And next year it won’t just be the two of us,” Chakotay said a hint of awe in his voice. “I can’t wait to meet our son.”

Kathryn’s smile deepened. “Neither can I. He’s been kicking up a storm today—probably eager to meet his father.”

Suddenly, the Titan rocked violently. Alarms blared, and Kathryn instinctively reached for the edge of her desk to steady herself.

“Kathryn?” Chakotay’s voice sharpened. “What’s going on?”

“We’re under attack,” she managed, her breath hitching as another volley struck the ship. “It feels like weapons fire.”

The comm crackled and went silent.

“Chakotay?” she called, panic lacing her voice. Only static answered.

Kathryn clenched her jaw, her mind racing. She felt a sharp pain radiate through her abdomen.

Not now,

she thought, but her body had made other plans. The contractions were unmistakable. Her child was coming, and the Titan was under attack.

Gritting her teeth, she pushed herself to her feet, clutching her belly as she stumbled toward the door. The ship’s lights flickered, and she could hear the distant sounds of phaser fire and shouting. Each step was a battle, but kathryn’s resolve burned brighter than her pain. She had to reach sickbay.

On the Voyager-A, Chakotay sat rigid in the command chair, his knuckles white against the armrests. “What’s the Titan’s status” he barked.

“Under heavy fire from a Farengi vessel.” Tuvok reported, “Their shields are failing.”

“Maximum warp,” Chakotay ordered. “We’re not losing them.”

Kathryn barely made it to sickbay, collapsing onto the biobed as the ship shuddered under another impact. The doctor, a young lieutenant rushed to her side, his face pale with worry.

“Admiral you’re in labour” he said, his voice trembling.

“No kidding,” Kathryn bit out through clenched teeth. “Just get my son out safely.”

The medical team worked frantically, their movements punctuated by the ship’s groans and the distant roar of weapons fire. Kathryns vision blurred, but she held on, her focus unyielding.

The Voyager-A arrived just in time. Chakotay paced the bridge, his heart pounding as the Titan loomed on the viewscreen, battered but intact. A huge Farengi merchant vessel faced off with it. As chakotay watched the Farengis sent a phaser blast that rocked the Titan.

“Target their weapons array,” he commanded. “Disable that ship.”

The Voyager-A’s phasers fired with precision, cutting through the Ferangi’s shields and silencing their weapons. The enemy ship powered down, and cheers erupted on the bridge.

Chakotay wasted no time. “Tuvok you have the bridge,” he said, already heading for the transporter room.

When Chakotay materialised in the Titan’s sickbay, his heart caught at the sight before him. Kathryn lay exhausted but radiant, cradling a tiny, swaddled bundle. Her smile lit up the room as she looked at him.

“Chakotay,” she whispered, tears glistening in her eyes. “Meet your son.”

He approached, his throat tight with emotion. The baby’s tiny fingers curled around his own, and he felt his world shift irrevocably.

“He’s perfect,” Chakotay said, his voice thick. He looked at his wife, his love for her overflowing. “And so are you.”

She laughed softly, weary but joyful. “I couldn’t have done it without you. Even when you weren’t here, I knew you’d come.”

Chakotay leaned down pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead “You’re the strongest person I know.”

“What should we call him?” Kathryn asked, her gaze shifting to their son.

Chakotay didn’t hesitate. “Kurt. After Kurt Bendera.”

Kathryn’s smile deepened, and she nodded. “Kurt it is.”

As the ship’s crew celebrated their survival and the season, the little family held each other close, finding peace in the chaos and joy in their new beginning.
