The Kudos, Akai Shuichi, Agasa Hakase, Hatori and Shinichi Kudo were all gathered in the Kudo household. Shinichi had to take the temporary antidote once again to solve a case much to the displeasure of Haibara. The case was a tough one where they almost came face to face with Gin and Vodka even if the case had nothing to do with the Black Organisation. They were all on edge, scared that someone might have gotten a suspicion on the fact that Shinichi was not actually dead but got turn into a child.Everyone was so engrossed in the discussion of how to keep the BO from snooping around about the reappearance of one Shinichi Kudo that no-one was paying attention to Shinichi himself, well except Akai Shuichi and Hatori. The FBI agent has come to care so much about the young man turned child that he put him on the same threshold of his family. Hatori, on the other hand, had seen first hand the struggle of his best friend, he knows well enough that it is going to soon turn painful for the Detective of the East.Just as the thought cross his mind, Shinichi double over, gasping for air while his hand moved to his chest, just above his heart. Hatori turned completely to his best friend, worried about him to death, while Akai Shuichi moves closer to the young man, his expression and body language showing panic about the young man’s well-being.Shinichi glance at his best friend, worried that he was going to transform infront of his parents and Akai Shuichi. While he knows that Akai Shuichi has known about his identity for a long time now, they have never out rightly acknowledged that fact. He also has never told his parents about everything he’s been through. He was not ready for them to find out now.Hatori notice the panic in the eyes of his best friend, but was not sure how to help him except maybe literally drag him to another room. On second thought, that might not be a bad idea seeing that no-one was paying attention to them. He touched Shinichi’s arm ready to drag him away, when Shinichi’s leg gives out under him, doubling over as his body spasm in pain. He made a motion to grab his friend but was beaten to it as Shinichi was caught in the arms of the FBI agent, sliding to the floor.Hatori went with them, still holding a hand on his best friend’s bicep, trying to alleviate his pain. Hatori and Akai looks at each other, panic in each of their eyes. Hatori open his mouth to say something when a blood curdling scream tore through the house from the man in their arms.Everyone turns to the direction of the scream, shock and panic visible in their faces and body language.Shinichi was sprawl in the arms of Hatori and Akai Shuichi, his head was resting against the chest of the FBI agent, face pale, eyes wide with pain clouded with tears. The Kudos moves forward, shock visible on their faces seeing their beloved son in such a state, but the professor stop them, nodding no. Tears wells up in the eyes of Yukiko Kudo, unable to watch the horrifying scene.Akai Shuichi was solely focus on the young man in his arm, wanting to reduce the pain but not knowing what to do. Hatori, on the other hand, just hold his best friend hand, knowing he can’t do anything except wait for it to pass. He observes the man cradling his best friend, something about his behaviour bugging him.Shinichi, had lost focus of his surroundings, only the pain known to him. He could feel the warm body against his cradling him but could not recognise the person. Nevertheless, he was thankful for it. It helps going through this much easier. He could feel it, he was going to be back to Conan in a few seconds. Just then, the worst of the pain cross his body, he feels his bone shrinking, the pain almost unbearable. He willed himself to go through it, not realising his mouth had open and scream came out, much louder and terrifying than the first one. The pain in the scream, send shivers to the spines of all the people present, hackling them and shaking them to the core.Yukiko tears finally fall down, not being able the bear the pain of seeing her son like this. Yusaku, just stood frozen, face completely devoid of colour, shocked written on his face. All people present, watch shocked and fascinated seeing the young man turn into a child again. The transition was agonisingly slow for all witnesses, wanting the ill-fated transition to be over once and for all, not being able to bear witnessed to the pain of the young man. Finally, after agonising seconds, which felt like an hour or more, the scream subside, leaving behind painful gasps, and a house full of people shaken to the core.Shuichi looks down to the boy, cradling him even more into his chest, wanting nothing more than to just hold the boy in his arms, comforting him. He waited patiently for the boy to calm down, not caring if his shirt was soaked with the boy’s sweat. He passes a hand through the boy hair, trying to calm him down, hoping it will help with the aftereffect of the spasm. He was so focus on the boy that he does not notice them being surrounded by all the people in the room. The boy’s father places a hand on his shoulder, shaking him out of his reverie. He looks up into the eyes of a father, shaken to the core, wanting nothing more than to hold his son in his arms. He shifted the boy in his arms, careful not jerk him too much to pass him to his father when the boy’s eyes roll in his head and he falls unconscious in his arms.He looks up into the eyes of the professor, unconsciously pulling the boy closer to him instead of giving him away, panic clear in his eyes, not registering the small “Shin-chan” coming out of the boy’s mother mouth.“was this suppose to happen?”; Akai asked, voice a bit shaken with shock and pain. The professor sighs, a small “sometimes” being voiced, not wanting to scare the people present more than they have already been traumatised.Akai heard it though, his sharp hearing catching it clearly. He looks down at the boy in his arms, his resolved to put those bastards behind bars intensifying even more. He vows, they will pay.Hatori clears his throat, looking at the FBI agent, signalling towards Yusaku Kudo. Akai only then realises that the man was waiting to take his son in his arms. He passed the boy to the man, as if passing the most fragile doll that existed in the world. Both men, were very careful not to shake the boy too much, scared of hurting him even more even if unconscious, he could not feel anything. Yusaku takes his son in his arms, wanting nothing more than to cradle him and shade him from the horrors of this world at that time, even if he or everyone else in this room was not one to be cradle. He was the type of person to be in the forefront of danger.Yusaku turns, moving slowly towards the stairs, holding his son carefully. Everyone follows him, their love and admiration for the young man who had to go through that going up tenfold. They all reach the young man’s room, Yusaku putting him carefully on the bed, Yukiko coming to the other side, wanting to be close to her son. Everyone else, just looks at the boy, standing a bit awkwardly in the room. Yukiko pushed a hand in the hair of her son, wiping off the sweat present on the boy’s forehead. She kissed his forehead, and place her head on his chest, hugging him to herself, reassuring herself her son was fine. Yusaku also got on the bed, hugging both his wife and son to himself.Their eyes close simultaneously, falling asleep on their son, calming their firing neurons. Seeing the Kudos falling asleep, the professor signals everyone else to move outside to leave the Kudos to themselves. Everyone obeys, despite not wanting to leave their precious, friend, companion, grandson, ally or something they could not name yet, out of their eyes.Hatori catches the eyes of Akai, signalling to follow him silently. Akai frowns, wondering what this is all about. Nevertheless, he decides to indulge the guy. They move to a quiet, small and unused room in the mansion. It was also far away enough from the others for them to have a quiet talk.Closing the door behind them, Hattori turned sharply, his eyes locking onto Akai’s with unwavering intensity. The air in the room grew heavier, charged with something unspoken.“You love him.”The words weren’t a question; they were a declaration, bold and resolute. They struck Akai like a bullet, precise and unavoidable.Akai froze, his body rigid as the weight of those three words settled over him. It was as though time itself had paused, the silence between them deafening.“I…” His voice faltered, uncharacteristically unsure. He looked away, his gaze falling to the floor as if it might hold the answers, he couldn’t bring himself to face. Love? The idea clutched at his heart, insistent and inescapable. Was it true?He replayed every moment in his mind—the nights spent in quiet companionship with Conan, the small, fleeting smiles they shared, the way his chest tightened whenever the boy was in danger. He thought of the peace he found in Conan’s presence, a peace he hadn’t known in years. His fists clenched at his sides as a torrent of emotions surged within him: confusion, vulnerability, and something so raw it felt almost like fear. He had always been a man of control, a master at keeping his emotions in check. But this? This wasn’t something he could rationalize or compartmentalize.Akai forced himself to meet Hattori’s gaze again, but the younger man’s expression didn’t waver. There was no judgment there, only certainty.“You care about him more than anything,” Hattori continued, his tone softer now. “You might not have said it out loud, but I can see it in your eyes, in the way you look at him. You don’t need to deny it.”Akai’s breath caught, his chest tightening as those words resonated deep within him. He had always thought of love as something distant, unattainable—a luxury for someone who lived in a different world than his own. Yet here he was, standing in the aftermath of Hattori’s declaration, unable to deny what had been there all along.“I…” he began again, his voice quieter now, almost a whisper. “I never thought…”But he didn’t finish the sentence. He didn’t need to. The truth had already settled in his heart, undeniable and unshakable.Feeling lightheaded under the realisation, he grabs the desk behind him to ground himself, his head bent and his bang casting a shadow on his eyes. All of a sudden, the most feared guy of the FBI looks vulnerable.Slowly, he raises his head, his eyes coming alive under the realisation of his feelings for the wonderful young man turned kid they have all come to know and care for.Akai: I love him.The words fell from Akai’s lips, not as a confession, but as a declaration—a truth finally unearthed. His voice was steady, but the weight behind it was immense, like a dam finally giving way.Hatori, standing before him, instinctively relaxed. The tension that had been coiled in his frame eased as he absorbed the sincerity in Akai’s tone. It wasn’t the kind of statement made lightly, and Hatori knew that. Slowly, he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.Akai, however, seemed drained by his own admission. As though speaking the words had sapped the last of his energy, he slid down to the floor. His shoulders sagged, his head tilted forward, and for a moment, it was as if the weight of his feelings pressed him into the ground.Hatori observed him in silence, the man’s vulnerability striking a chord. He had just shaken Akai’s entire world, turned it upside down with a few probing words. Slowly, deliberately, Hatori lowered himself to the floor, sitting beside Akai.Hatori: What are you going to do now?The question hung in the air, heavy and unanswered. Akai let out a breathless laugh, one that sounded as though it carried a mix of amusement and despair.Akai: I don’t know.He chuckled again, shaking his head.Akai: I didn’t even realize it, you know? I knew I cared for him—deeply. In such a short time, he’s become everything. My partner, my ally, my friend... my constant. He’s filled a part of my life I didn’t even know was empty. And when I can’t talk to him, when I can’t reach him, it feels... unbearable.Akai’s voice trembled slightly, but a smile broke through, soft and genuine.Akai: I guess that’s love, huh? Funny how it sneaks up on you.He leaned back against the wall, his gaze lifting to the ceiling, as if searching for clarity in the expanse above. The corners of his lips curled upward faintly, a smile born from the sheer wonder of the realization. But as quickly as the smile came, his eyes lit up with sudden urgency, and he jerked forward, turning to face Hatori.Akai: Hatori-kun, you’re his best friend, right?Hatori: Hmm?Hatori’s brows furrowed in confusion, caught off guard by the abruptness of the question.Akai: Can I ask you something? There was an edge to Akai’s voice, a kind of desperation that made Hatori pause before nodding.Hatori: Of course.Akai: How do you think he’ll react?Hatori hesitated. He knew Akai wasn’t asking out of idle curiosity. This was a man grasping at straws, trying to prepare himself for the unknown.Hatori: I don’t know. Honestly, you probably understand him better than I do.He paused, choosing his words carefully.Hatori: But I’ll say this—he shares everything with you. More than he does with me, more than he does with his family. That says something.Akai’s expression softened, but there was still a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes.Hatori: Are you going to tell him?Akai: I... don’t know. Knowing him, he’ll probably figure it out on his own.A faint smirk tugged at the corner of Hatori’s mouth.Hatori: Yeah, that sounds like him.The room fell silent for a moment, the air thick with unspoken thoughts. Hatori broke it with a quiet but firm reminder.Hatori: Whatever you do, Akai, just don’t hurt him.Akai’s head snapped toward Hatori, his eyes fierce and unwavering. The intensity in his gaze was enough to leave no room for doubt.Akai: Never. It was one word, but it carried a promise—a vow. Hatori nodded, satisfied, and slowly got to his feet. He lingered for a moment, glancing down at the man who was now deep in thought, before heading toward the door.Hatori: Take your time. And with that, he left, leaving Akai alone with the whirlwind of emotions he could no longer ignore.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Once alone, Akai reflects on what he just learnt. ” Love! Who would have thought? You are in big trouble Akai Shuichi.”Akai thinks about all the time they had spent together. He had at first been weary of the boy, with his fierce blue eyes and uncanny obsession with the black organisation. The boy had also been in contact with Sherry and Akemi, he was even present at her death. At first, he thought that the BO had gone so far as to recruit children as well. He had been anxious then.He was so glad that he was wrong. When he was involved in the figuring out that the Mizunashi Rena was also part of the BO, he had wondered that the boy was a double agent mainly someone who was trying to unravel the FBI but then, he helped in capturing her. Not only had he helped them figure out she was part of the CIA, but he also managed to win against Gin.When the Boya found out there was a hidden BO member at the hospital, he was sceptical. However, during that whole ordeal the Boya had only impress him more and more that he had been speechless. The way the Boya had smartly help them figure out the member that even James and Jodie has been stumped was a surprising feat in itself but the most impressive part came when he realise the real person hidden behind the childish personality. That brilliant strategic mind with a charming personality.Shinichi as Conan had taken a gamble showed his real self to him and he had entrusted his life in the boya’s hand. The Boya’s had impressed him when he had let him speak his mind. The Boya had been able to predict Gin’s move through and through and has managed to save life. He had managed to save the life of the one person who the BO feared the most, something he wonder if it would have been possible if he was not present. The Boya had saved his life and at the same time, gain himself a lifetime ally who would always have his back.Thinking back now, Akai realises, the feelings started then on the rooftop of the hospital. An admiration for a brilliant mind turned into love overtime. Since then, they had only grown closer. The boya had relied on him in regards to anything that involved the BO, including in the whole planning while he had always make sure to always the have the back of the boy.Thinking about it, he had always cherished the time the boy had spent time with him, whether it was for a case, a consult or just bonding over coffee, a book or cleaning. He wonders when does the feeling did change though? Was it when they planned the whole train fiasco or was when the boya did not hesitate to put his closest family members in the line of fire to save his life or did it just grow overtime? He does not know. However, he does know now that he is love and he has no idea what to do.As the same time something else was confusing him. He had always been attracted to girls, first there was small fling in college, during his studies just to test the waters and understand the meaning of dating. Then, he joined FBI. That had taken a toll on him and he look for companionship in bars, one night stands to leave the horrors his work brought. Then there was Jodie, she was enigmatic to say the least. She was beautiful, different and strong but at the same time a fragile girl who had been hurt by those bastards. He was attracted to her. He started dating her and after her had been Akemi.Akemi had been a changed. She might have been the sweetest girl he had ever met. He had felt awful deceiving her, using her and without knowing, spending time with her, he had come to love her. And then one day, she was gone. She had tried to leave the organisation just for him, fighting those crows on her own without any support or help. Her death had been devasting. Losing her had intensified the fire that had started in his heart long time back. He started pursuing them with a new vigour, wanting to revenge his dad and her. After her, he had felt empty and had believe he was destined to be alone. He had not been interested in any other girl since but now he was attracted to an 18-year-old who was stuck in a body of an 8 year old. Not only that, but it was also a guy. When did his preference changed? When did he start getting attracted to guys? Or was it always like that and he just never noticed? Could it be he had been so engrossed of what the society expected of him that he had just bound himself to it and never really explored what he wanted? Had he been so engrossed in his revenge, his responsibilities that he had completely forgotten to figure out himself?Nevertheless, no matter what, he was in love with a guy who has the weirdest luck in the world? What was he supposed to do now?First maybe, he should explore those new feelings of his so that he does not behave like a fool. His feelings were strong, stronger that what he had felt for Jodie or even Akemi. This would consume him.Smirking he gets off the floor and leave the room, his mind occupied with his newly discovered feelings for the boy and the boy himself.Joining the others, he hears voices coming upstairs. Confused, he walks over, seeing the Kudos fussing over their son who was busy trying to push his parents off him. Hatori, was laughing at his state while the Professor was just looking on with a mixture of fondness and exasperation. He smirks and leans against the doorframe seeing the boy’s predicament.Conan: Let me go! Let go of me!Yukiko, who was squeezing her son to herself, suffocating him: No! Never! You scared your mama Shin-Chan, she is never going to let you go.Conan who was still struggling, flailing his arms and legs left and right, trying to get away from his mother: I’m fine, let me go.Managing to turn to his father, Conan gives him a betrayed look, but Yusaku just smiles and ruffles his hair, relief clear on his face. Conan pouted, and tries to look for some way to get his mother off when his eyes land on him.Akai just smirks when he sees the boy’s looking at him with a pleading look. However, he knows the mistress of the Kudo household, she was just as stubborn as her son. He has no desire of taking her son from her and suffer hell from her. Besides, the kid has scared him just as much, he also just wants to see the boy well and safe. And being in his mother’s arms is the best place for that.Conan pouted and resigned himself to this fate when he realises no-one was going to help him. he glares at each and everyone in the room, making a note to himself to revenge. Suddenly he stiffens, hearing his mother sniffling, he looks at her.Conan: Okaasan, he called softly.Yukiko just hugs him tighter, hiding her face in his shoulder. Conan looks at his father questioningly, Yusaku just shook his head. Conan stops struggling completely and hugs his mother, wondering what exactly this is about. He calms down his mother.Conan: It is okay, I’m fine mom, I’m fine.Yukiko does not respond and just continues to cry, the cries of her son still vivid in her ears. Conan just stays there silently waiting for her to calm down. He smiles softly, understanding.Conan: nothing is going to happen to me, I’m completely fine.Yukiko parts away, looking at the soft face of her beloved son, she caresses his cheek and plays with his hair. He forwards his small hand, wiping the tears off her face.Conan: I’m fine mom and I’m okay.Yukiko smiles and wipes her face; she places a sweet kiss on his cheek and hugs him again.Conan: Besides, you should wash your face.Yukiko blinks at him: why?Conan: You look like one of those ghosts that just came out of the TV.Conan said quickly and jumps off the bed, rushing out of the room. Yusaku blinks at his son’s speedy retreat and turns back to his wife, scared. Yukiko had turn red in anger.Yukiko (screams): Shin-ChanEveryone backs away from the fuming woman marching out of the room in pure anger.Yusaku smiles at the strategy and just let them be. Everyone would be back to normal.Hattori and Hakase trailed behind the woman, curiosity piqued by the promise of an exciting confrontation. Meanwhile, Shuichi slipped into the room, his steps deliberate. There was something he needed to say—something long overdue.Akai: Yusaku-san, may I have a moment?Yusaku turned, his brow furrowed slightly in curiosity. He had always known Shuichi to be composed, but there was a new intensity in his demeanor. He nodded, gesturing for him to proceed. Shuichi closed the door softly, ensuring their privacy.Akai: I’ll get straight to the point. There’s no other way to say this.Yusaku remained quiet, his calm gaze unwavering. He had a feeling he knew what was coming.Akai: I’m in love—with your son.The words hung in the air, bold and unyielding. For a moment, Shuichi braced himself, expecting shock, anger, or at the very least, surprise. Instead, Yusaku smiled—a relaxed, knowing smile.Yusaku: I see.Akai blinked, taken aback.Akai: You knew?Yusaku chuckled, clearly amused by the younger man’s reaction.Yusaku: Your face says it all—you just figured it out yourself, didn’t you?Shuichi shifted uncomfortably under Yusaku’s gaze, his stoic demeanor faltering. He said nothing, which only made Yusaku smile wider.Yusaku: You’re quite obvious, you know. I’ve watched you around Shinichi—er, Conan—and the difference in how you treat him compared to others is stark. It’s as if there’s a radar tuned exclusively to him. You’re always aware of where he is, always turning toward him when he’s nearby. You laugh with him, you share your thoughts freely, and you prioritize him above everyone else, even your own family. If that isn’t love, then what is?Shuichi’s lips twitched, a soft smile creeping onto his face despite himself.Akai: I suppose I do tend to be like that with him.Yusaku: And your... display of affection earlier? That was enough to make it abundantly clear, even to those who might not pay close attention.Shuichi averted his gaze, the faintest hint of color rising to his cheeks. He shifted, clearing his throat.Akai: You don’t have a problem with this?Yusaku shook his head.Yusaku: If he feels the same way about you, then I’m happy for both of you. But…His tone grew serious.Yusaku: Please, wait until he’s back in his own body before pursuing anything further.Shuichi’s eyes widened, and his face flushed a deeper shade of red as he grasped the implication. Yusaku’s laughter filled the room at the FBI agent’s embarrassment.Yusaku: Relax, I trust your intentions. Now, tell me—what clued you in?Akai: It wasn’t a ‘what.’ It was a ‘who.’Yusaku raised an eyebrow.Akai: Hattori confronted me about it. Imagine my shock when I realized he was right.Yusaku leaned forward, curiosity sparkling in his eyes.Yusaku: What has you so rattled?Shuichi sighed, sinking onto the edge of the bed.Akai: I’ve never been attracted to men before—not once. And now, I find myself in love with one. Not only that, he’s fourteen years younger than me. It’s… disorienting.Yusaku: He’s probably your exception.Akai tilted his head, confused.Akai: Exception?Yusaku nodded, his tone taking on the patient cadence of a teacher explaining a complex concept.Yusaku: Most people have a type—a set of preferences we think define who we’re attracted to. Gender is usually one of those categories, followed by personality traits, physical attributes, or even voice. But occasionally, someone comes along who doesn’t fit those preferences—someone who defies every assumption you’ve made about yourself.Akai listened intently, the wheels in his mind turning.Yusaku: I imagine you’ve had past relationships, all with women. But if you think back, there’s likely one defining trait they all shared. And whatever that trait is, Shinichi possesses it to a greater degree than anyone else.Shuichi’s eyes widened as the realization struck him.Yusaku: Judging by your expression, you’ve figured it out. That trait drew you to him at first—perhaps not romantically, but as a friend, an equal. Over time, as you got to know him, that admiration deepened into love.Akai nodded slowly, the pieces falling into place.Akai: You’re right. I understand now. Thank you, Yusaku-san.Yusaku smiled warmly, but his expression turned serious once more.Yusaku: Akai-kun, I have just one request.Shuichi met Yusaku’s gaze, understanding the weight behind his words.Yusaku: Whatever you do, don’t hurt him.Akai’s eyes burned with conviction as he gave his answer.Akai: Never.Yusaku’s smile returned, lighter this time.Yusaku: Good. Now, we should probably go rescue him. He’s managed to land himself in a bit of trouble.Akai chuckled, remembering the earlier chaos.Akai: To be fair, it worked.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Yusaku laugh in complete agreement with the man. Both leave the room, following the voices to the library. Hakase and Yukiko were engaged in a lively conversation while Conan and Hattori were engaged in debate. The two men looks at each before turning their eyes on their object of affection, Conan. Their eyes scan his body silently, making sure he was truly alright, looking for distress signs.Feeling their eyes on him, he turns towards and give them a smile, telling them he was fine. The two man relaxes slowly, joining them all in the library, joining the happy family time. After dinner, the conversation takes up again.Conan: I don’t think we have to worry.Everyone turns to look at him confused.Akai who was sitting next to him leans forward and asks: Why that?Conan: It is simple. I don’t think they saw me and if they did, they would not be figuring I’m a middle school student. My biggest worry is if they find out about you Akai-san but that can easily be tackle with your disguise. If we worry about them finding out my identity, they would first start snooping around the Kudo house. Only if they find me around here would they start investigating me, but if they don’t, there is nothing to worry about. If we are overly cautious, we can catch their attention and that is something we need to avoid at all costs. Besides, if ever they do come snooping around, I think with both of us, we can tackle them.Yusaku: You are right. We don’t know for sure if they saw you in your real body or not. If they have not and we are overly cautious as you put it, we might just invite them instead of driving away.Everyone hums in agreement and continues their dinner, making small talk. Akai was more focus on Conan than the conversation around.Conn feeling his eyes on him, looks at him confusedly, wondering what is going on. But Akai just keeps looking at him the same without giving anything away. The next few days everyone was edge. Conan had returned to the Detective Agency and kept a low profile to not attract any attention. They had decided it would be cautious for the Kudos to stay around as well since if the BO were investing it would be suspicious if the Kudos just left the country after their son made an appearance. However, they can’t wait for more than a week as they had left the country on hurry without arranging anything for their affairs. After a week, they decided to move back after deep consideration with both Conan and Akai.Akai: I have not heard anything to be honest. I guess it would be okay. If ever there is anything, I think the both of us would be able to handle it.Conan agrees: I have not felt them either. I don’t think it would be a problem. We would take care of it if ever something comes up. You guys should go.The next morning, the Kudo family prepared to leave, but not before Yukiko unleashed her full arsenal of maternal affection on her mortified son.“Mom, stop!” Conan squirmed as Yukiko smothered him with hugs and peppered kisses all over his head. “I’m not five! Get off!”“Oh, Shin-chan, you’ll always be my baby!” Yukiko cooed, tightening her hold.Akai stood off to the side, his lips twitching as he struggled to maintain his composure. The sight of the fearless and sharp-tongued Conan, reduced to a flailing, red-faced mess under his mother’s relentless affection, was almost too much.“Mom! Seriously! People are watching!” Conan hissed, his mortification palpable.Akai had to turn away for a moment, his shoulders shaking with suppressed laughter. This… this is priceless, he thought, biting the inside of his cheek. But when Yukiko dramatically declared, “One more hug for the road!” and Conan’s groan hit a new octave, Akai knew he had to intervene—if only to keep himself from bursting out laughing.“Excuse me,” Akai interjected smoothly, a hint of mirth dancing in his eyes. “But… aren’t you guys on a schedule? Doesn’t your flight leave soon?”Yukiko blinked, her arms still wrapped tightly around her struggling son. “Oh, right! The flight!” she exclaimed, releasing Conan at last.Conan stumbled back, frantically straightening his clothes, his face burning with embarrassment. “Finally,” he muttered under his breath, shooting Akai a grateful look—though the glare that followed clearly said, Don’t you dare bring this up again.Akai simply smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. “Safe travels,” he said, his tone deceptively innocent.Conan wiping his face from all the lipsticks mark his mother left on him, grumbling to himself. Akai burst out laughing at the face the boya was making.Conan glares at him with a betrayed look on his face.Conan: I thought you had my back.Akai still chuckling: I always have your back boya but there is no way I’m ever getting you away from Yukiko-san. That woman is vicious when she is angry.Conan huffs and pouted. He will have to suffer that treatment every single time. Akai ruffles his hair which he removes with a swat of his hand.Conan: By the way, are you okay?Akai paused mid-step, glancing down at the boy.Akai: Huh? Why do you ask?Conan tilted his head, his sharp eyes scrutinizing the older man.Conan: I don’t know... something feels different about you.Akai’s lips curved into a smirk, the kind that hinted at secrets well-kept and truths freshly realized. He knelt down in front of Conan, leveling their gazes. For a moment, his expression softened, and his green eyes held an intensity that made Conan blink in surprise.Akai: I found my reason to live. His voice was low but steady, carrying a weight that made the words resonate.Akai: And that’s more than enough to keep me going for the rest of my life.Conan’s brows furrowed, his mind racing to decipher the meaning behind those words.Conan: Your reason to live?Akai’s smirk shifted into something gentler, almost playful. With a fondness that caught Conan off guard, he flicked the boy’s nose lightly.Akai: You’ll understand one day.Conan’s eyes crossed slightly as he followed Akai’s finger. Blinking, he looked back at the man, bewildered.Conan: Huh?But Akai only winked at him before rising to his full height and strolling off, leaving Conan standing there, more confused than ever.Conan shook his head, muttering under his breath.Conan: What’s with him today?Deciding to file the strange behavior away for later, Conan followed Akai toward the library. For the first time in what felt like forever, he didn’t have to pretend. His identity was no longer a secret, and he could finally just be himself.Grinning, he grabs a Sherlock Holmes book from the bookshelves, lies down on his stomach in front of the desk and starts reading. Akai watches him with fondness, his expression completely soft looking at the young man turned child goes about his own home, making himself comfortable. Akai himself just grabs a book and start reading, enjoying the silence and silent company of Conan.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Close to lunch, Akai gets up and stretches, he needs to start preparing lunch. Looking at Conan he wonders what he should make. Suddenly, a thought come up, he knows nothing about Shinichi, what are the things he enjoys? What he does not? What are his favourite things? Etc, etc…He does know that the young man enjoys mystery and Sherlock Holmes but that’s it. He really needs to start getting to know the boy more. He wonders how he is going to go about that. He is normally so tight lip about himself that’s it was a wonder he found out about the real identity of the boy, that too by mistake. Asking questions directly would be too forward and would push the boya to be more cautious and not asking would bring no result at all. Akai pinch his nose, just what the hell has he just gotten himself into?Maybe he should start small.Akai: Conan-kun?Conan looks up at him confusedly.Akai: What do you want for lunch?Conan only then realises that so much time has passed, and it was already lunch. Thinking about it, he was a bit hungry.Conan: I’m fine with whateverAkai: It would easier if you can tell me what you want since I actually don’t know what I’m going to make.Conan: I don’t know Akai-san. I don’t exactly have a preference.Akai: don’t you have favourites?Conan: well except coffee, not really.Akai chuckle at that: coffee is not suitable for lunch.Conan: What about your favourite Akai-san?Akai: I personally enjoy all types of pasta and well curry.Conan grinned: What about making pasta then? Curry would take too long to make.Akai blink at that: I was about to make yours not mine.Conan grinned: and I said, I’m fine with any.Akai rolls his eyes, understanding he was just manipulated into revealing his favourite. He narrows his eyes at Conan who looks up innocently at him. Akai sighs: that innocent look is not going work on me.Conan asks innocently: what look?Akai sighs again, knowing if was futile at this point. He has already lost: Fine, pasta it is.At that he turns around and move to the kitchen to start everything. He hears a small pitter patter behind him signalling that Conan was following behind him. Akai smiles, imagining the young boy holding his Sherlock Holmes’ book in his hand and sitting on the kitchen table reading. This would be a sight.Conan sits at the table reading silently while Akai goes about in the kitchen preparing lunch. At some point, just needed the pasta to finish boiling before he mixes it with the sauce. He leans against the counter and observe the boy. Feeling his gaze, Conan looks up into Akai’s eyes. The look on his face startles him.Conan: What?Akai: Nothing. It feels good to be back home, doesn’t it?Conan: Hmm, I miss being here sometimes.Akai: You are welcome anytime here you know, this is your house afterall.Conan: Don’t.Akai: Don’t what?Conan: If you continue, I’ll be tempted to come here anytime. Something we can’t afford when we have the BO on our back.Akai looks thoughtful, he places a hand on Conan’s hand which was resting on the table: You’ve got nothing to worry about in here, not as far as I am here. I won’t ever let the BO get to you.Akai promise silently. The conviction with which he said surprises Conan. Something feels weird about the way Akai said those words. Conan just keeps looking into Akai’s eyes, the look does not falter at all. Akai holds his gaze wanting Conan/Shinichi to know, to believe that he would do anything for him and if that means keeping him safe from the BO, he would.Conan nodded, realising that Akai would always be there for him. Someway, that thought comforts much more than he thought it would. His heartbeat picks up speed as soon as he realises that. The timer rings, signalling the pasta has been cooked. Akai leaves Conan hand and turn around to complete the preparation of their lunch.Conan feels a pang in his heart as Akai leaves his hand. He frowns. What was that? He wonders. This was the first time he was feeling like this. His eyes keep following the man around the kitchen. Akai feels Conan’s eyes on him but does not react at all, he let the boy deduce to his heart content. He knows, Conan would figure it out soon.Akai places 2 plates of hot pasta on the table and takes a seat opposite Conan. Conan thanks him for the food and digs in. Akai focuses on his own food all the while keeping a discreet eye on Conan. Something was bugging him.The realization made him feel both overwhelmed and liberated at the same time. Every moment with Conan felt like a quiet revelation. There were the small things: the way he would sit in front of the fireplace, absorbed in his thoughts, the way his lips quirked when he was trying to hide a grin, the way his brows furrowed in concentration or frustration, and Akai just wanted to memorize every detail. But beyond those fleeting moments, Akai knew that his attachment went far deeper. He admired Conan’s strength, his resilience, and the way he never gave up, no matter how impossible the odds were. He was brilliant, driven, and relentless in his pursuit of justice—but there was a vulnerability, a quiet sadness in those sapphire eyes that no one but Akai seemed to notice. And that was what bound Akai to him in a way he hadn’t anticipated.Akai had always been careful with his heart, knowing the risks of getting too close to anyone. But with Conan, he had already crossed that line—and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to go back. The thought of seeing Conan hurt, seeing him face danger alone again—it tore at Akai in a way he didn’t think he could endure. The quiet moments between them, when they shared something as simple as a meal or a brief exchange, had become sacred to Akai. He had never thought he would find something this meaningful, this intense, with someone like Conan. But the truth was that Conan had become everything to him.He could feel the intensity of his feelings building, the weight of it pressing down on him. He wanted to be there for Conan, in every way. He wanted to protect him, to love him, to make sure he never had to face the darkness of the world alone. And the more he tried to suppress it, the more it seemed to consume him.But what scared Akai the most was the fear that Conan didn’t feel the same. That this bond—this quiet, unspoken understanding they had—was just something Akai imagined, something he had built up in his mind. He couldn’t risk pushing Conan away, not when he had already seen what it was like to be close to him.As he watched Conan now, with his eyes lost in thought and his lips slightly parted as he ate, Akai realized just how much he had come to rely on his presence. How much he had come to love him, without even meaning to.Conan definitely trusts him but at the same why has he not ever told him the truth about his identity? Akai was dying to know. Now that his feelings has come to surface, he does not think he would be able to take it if the air is not cleared between them.Conan had felt the change in Akai, he knows something was bothering the man. He waits for it, knowing the man would asks sooner or later.Making up his mind, Akai asks: Hey boya, do you mind if I ask you something?Conan regards him for a minute, weighing his options but then nodded.Akai: Why did you not ever tell me the truth about who you are?Conan sighs, he had been anticipating that question, he could here the underlying question Don’t you trust me,: I was scared. When this whole thing started I did not even know that teenagers can shrink and if that’s was not enough, I found out it was from some big organisation. We both know how the BO is, if word ever got out, everyone around us would be dead. I wanted to keep the number of people who knows my identity to a bare minimum.I told only Hakase to be honest you know, I needed his help. When I first shrink, I could not even get into my own house. Then he told my parents for obvious reasons. Haibara figure it out when she shrank herself and Hattori figure it out during a case, I was careless with him. When Hattori figure it out, I thought I have an ally which I do but not against the BO. He tends to slip up a lot and call me by my real name infront of a lot of people. I wanted to avoid such type of slip up. Even mom has a tendency of calling me Shin-chan, her nickname for me. After that, I figure out the lesser people that know, the better.I had wanted to tell you at some point, but I was not sure how you were going to react and at the same time, I don’t want anyone else to know. Besides, at that point I had not exactly thought we would be so close. And once we did, I did not know exactly know how to broach the subject.I knew you would figure it out though, being how smart you are and you living in my house. At the same time, I don’t exactly pretend to be a kid in front you. I’m sorry, I did not mean to hurt you.Akai: Then why did not you tell me the truth when I confronted you?Conan: I couldn’t. You did so infront of Ran, Sonoko and Sera. While I know Sera knows my identity, Ran and Sonoko not really. I had to go to a lot of length to make it seems that Shinichi and Conan are 2 different persons. Ran will kill me if she finds out not to forget she would not be able to keep her nose out of the BO. The second time, you did so at a crime scene, infront of the division one who knows me as Shinichi very well. If you had done so when it was just the two of us, I would have probably tell you the truth. Afterall, you are the one person I trust explicitly.Akai: I see. I’m sorry I did not think it through. I just wanted to know who you truly are as I could tell from the very first time I saw you that you were more than what meets the eyes.Conan waived the apology off: It’s okay. I’m glad it is out in the open though as now I can completely be myself here.Akai smiles, glad the whole thing is behind them.Akai: Would you ever tell me how you shrink? And how you came to know about the BO?Conan gives a small sad smile and said: we should probably move this somewhere else. It is a bit of a story. They had finished while talking and decided to move to the study. Conan takes a place near the fireplace while Shuichi foregoes everything else and sits cross leg in front of the boy, making himself comfortable.Conan: First, before we start, let me asks you something.Akai nodded, waiting, he has a feeling this was going to be big.Conan: Do you know what Haibara was working on during her time in the organisation?Akai frowns: I know it was some kind of research but that’s it.Conan: She was working on developing a poison, called Apotoxin 4869. A poison that could give a person a heart attack and leave no trace in the body. It was suppose to be their ultimate weapon, killing without making seemed like murder.Anyway, few months back, I promised Ran that if she wins her karate competition, I will take her to Tropical Land. While riding one of the rides, a murder occurred. I got busy solving that case. Gin and Vodka was there. Gin, approach Megure Keibu asking permission to leave. Apparently, they were getting late for a meeting of some sort. His attitude attracts me. His aura screamed at me. I knew he was no ordinary man and was a murderer. He was not for that particular case, but I could tell he had killed before. After solving the case, I was about to take Ran home when I saw Vodka tailing someone. I followed him. He met with a CEO of some sort for a deal. I was busy observing them when I failed to noticed Gin coming up behind me. When I notice, it was too late. Gin knocked me out by hitting me on the head. I collapse. I tried to will my body to move but I just couldn’t. Gin mentioned that Shinichi Kudo could become a problem later for them in the future so it would be better to get rid of me early. They were about to shoot me but then Gin mentioned that the cops could still hear the shot as they were in the vicinity.Instead, he grabbed me by my hair, shoved a pill down my throat and some water. I swallowed instinctively. He told me this was a new pill that provide the same symptoms of a heart attack without leaving a trace in the body. After that, he said Goodbye Meitantei. The next thing I know is my body heating up. I just remember a piercing pain, as if my bones were melting and I think I must have passed out. I woke up later to some police officers asking me if I was alright little boy. I did not even realise that I had shrank, not until they started laughing for saying I was a teenager and I looked in the mirror.I was shocked and afraid and just ran. I came here but I could not open the door. At the same time, Hakase came. It took awhile but I managed to convince him who I was. He let me in. I told him everything and he in turn convinced to go to the Mouris, with Ran’s dad being a detective, it was the best solution if I wanted to catch them.I came up with the name Edogawa Conan on a whim, Ran cornered me before I could even come up with a proper one. My eyes just fell on the books in the library, and I blurt it out without thinking. After that, I have just been pursuing them grasping at any leads I can get my hands on.Akai was in shock, his mind in complete disarray after learning what had happened. The admiration he has for the young man in front of him growing up tenfold.Akai smiles: You are amazing, you know that?Conan cocks his head to the side, totally confused: Whatever do you mean?Akai smiles, cupping the boys cheek and caressing it he said: You will understand one day, and places a soft kiss on the boy’s forehead.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Akai smiles, cupping the boys cheek and caressing it he said: You will understand one day, and places a soft kiss on the boy’s forehead.Conan startle moved back a little at that. Akai smiles at him and get up. Unfortunately, Akai stumbled, his leg still numbs from sitting too long. Instinctively, he braced himself with his arms, barely catching his weight before he could collapse completely. His palms landed on either side of Conan’s head, the soft thud startling the boy beneath him.Conan gasped, his back pressed into the plush carpet, Akai’s presence suddenly overwhelming. The man loomed above him, his face mere inches away. Their noses nearly touched, and Conan could feel the faint warmth of Akai’s breath, tinged with the faint spice of the pasta they’d just eaten. It ghosted across his cheek, sending a shiver down his spine.Time seemed to still, the quiet crackle of the fireplace the only sound in the room. Conan’s chest rose and fell rapidly, his breath quickening in response to the proximity. He felt frozen, unsure whether it was the weight of Akai’s piercing gaze or something deeper that rooted him in place. His mind raced, trying to make sense of the strange fluttering in his chest. Why did his heart feel like it was racing a marathon?Akai’s emerald-green eyes locked with his, soft but searching, as if trying to see through the layers of Conan’s carefully constructed walls. There was an intensity there, a depth that Conan hadn’t noticed before—or perhaps he had, but was too afraid to acknowledge. For the first time, Akai’s gaze didn’t feel analytical or guarded. Instead, it was raw and unfiltered, an open window to his thoughts. What is he looking for? Conan wondered. His body felt taut, like a bowstring stretched too tight. He couldn’t look away, couldn’t even move. The heat from Akai’s body radiated against him, creating a cocoon of warmth that was both comforting and unnerving.Akai, on the other hand, was battling his own turmoil. He hadn’t meant to fall, but now that he was here, so close to Shinichi—no, Conan—he found himself reluctant to pull away. His mind screamed at him to move, to break the spell, but his body wouldn’t listen. Instead, he studied the boy beneath him, noting the way his cheeks flushed a soft pink, the way his lips parted slightly in surprise, the way his sapphire-blue eyes held an ocean of emotion he’d never dared to explore until now. He’s so young, Akai thought, his heart clenching. And yet, so much older than he should be. The weight of everything Conan had endured hit him anew. The boy had been forced to shoulder burdens no one his age should ever face. Yet here he was, strong, brilliant, and utterly vulnerable in this moment.“I—” Akai began, but his voice faltered, caught in the knot of emotions tightening in his chest. He could feel Conan’s small hands pressing lightly against his chest, not to push him away, but almost as if seeking stability, grounding himself in the contact.Conan finally broke the silence, his voice quieter than usual. “Akai-san...” The way he said it—soft, uncertain—sent a pang through Akai’s chest. It wasn’t the voice of the confident detective or the sharp-witted child he’d come to know. It was Shinichi Kudo, stripped bare of his masks.Akai leaned back slightly, just enough to ease the tension. His arms remained on either side of Conan’s head, unwilling to completely let go. “Sorry,” he murmured, his voice rough but sincere. “I didn’t mean to—” “It’s okay,” Conan interrupted, his tone almost shy. His eyes flickered downward, avoiding Akai’s for the first time. “You didn’t... hurt me or anything.”The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning. Akai tilted his head, studying the boy further, his expression softening. “You’re stronger than anyone I’ve ever met, you know that?” he said quietly, his voice filled with something Conan couldn’t quite name. Respect? Admiration? Affection?Conan blinked, the flush in his cheeks deepening. “I... I’m not,” he muttered, his voice almost a whisper. “I’m just trying to survive.”“And you’re doing a damn good job of it,” Akai replied, his lips quirking into a small, almost sad smile. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from Conan’s forehead, the gesture so tender it sent a jolt through both of them. For a moment longer, they stayed like that, the weight of unspoken emotions settling around them, softened by the warm sunlight streaming through the glass ceiling above. The sky was clear, a bright expanse of blue stretching endlessly overhead, with scattered white clouds drifting lazily across it.Akai took a deep breath and rolled over to his side, his gaze lifting to the ceiling. Sunlight glinted off the glass, casting faint patterns of light onto the floor around them.“Look at that,” Akai murmured, his voice low and thoughtful. “Days like this make you forget the rest of the world exists.”Conan followed his gaze, lying back as well, though his body remained a little tense. The sunlight bathed the space in warmth, a stark contrast to the swirling uncertainty he felt within himself.Akai shifted again, propping himself up slightly before turning toward Conan. Without a word, he reached out, his movements uncharacteristically hesitant, and placed his head gently in Conan's lap. Conan froze, his breath catching as Akai’s arms wrapped firmly around his waist, pulling him close.“Akai-san—” Conan’s voice wavered, but he stopped short when he felt the older man’s face press into his stomach.“Just… let me stay like this for a moment,” Akai murmured, his voice muffled but raw.Conan’s heart raced, unsure of what to do. The sensation of Akai’s warmth against him was startling, unfamiliar, and yet… not unwelcome. Slowly, almost cautiously, he brought a hand up and carded his fingers through Akai’s dark hair. The strands were soft, and the rhythmic motion seemed to calm them both.Akai let out a quiet, contented sigh, his grip around Conan relaxing slightly. For the first time in what felt like forever, his restless mind found a measure of peace.“You’re stiff,” Akai teased softly, though his voice held no bite. “You can relax, you know.”Conan huffed lightly, his fingers still weaving through Akai’s hair. “You’re one to talk. You’re the one clinging like a koala.”Akai chuckled softly, the sound vibrating against Conan’s stomach. “Maybe I needed this more than I thought.”Conan didn’t respond, but his touch became gentler, more deliberate, as if silently acknowledging Akai’s words. The tension in his own shoulders eased, and for a while, they stayed like that—Akai holding on tightly, Conan’s fingers tracing soothing patterns through his hair.Above them, the sunlight poured through the glass ceiling, warming the space around them. The sky beyond seemed endless, expansive, and impossibly tranquil. Neither spoke, but in that shared silence, something unspoken passed between them—something fragile, precious, and difficult to put into words.Later that night, the warmth of the sunlit library lingered like a phantom, even as Conan lay on his futon back at the Detective Agency. The ceiling above him seemed impossibly blank compared to the glass roof he’d stared through earlier, with Akai's steady presence by his side.He exhaled slowly, his hands folded behind his head. The moment replayed itself in his mind—Akai’s weight pressing against him, the quiet vulnerability in the man’s embrace. It was so unlike anything he had experienced before, and it left an ache in his chest that he couldn’t quite place.“Why did I let it happen?” Conan murmured to himself, his voice barely above a whisper. His fingers clenched the fabric of his blanket as he stared up at the ceiling, trying to untangle the knot of emotions twisting inside him.Was it the trust Akai had in him? The comfort of being seen, not as a child, but as something more? Or was it the way Akai’s embrace had made him feel safe in a way that was both unfamiliar and terrifying? He let out a soft huff, his lips quirking into a wry smile. “You’re overthinking this, Kudo Shinichi.”But the warmth in his chest refused to fade, and even as his mind tried to rationalize it, a small, rebellious part of him held onto the memory of Akai’s arms around him and the way the older man had made him feel—like he wasn’t alone.Turning onto his side, Conan closed his eyes, letting the memory play out one last time. He didn’t have answers—not yet—but for now, he let himself feel the weight of it.And for the first time in a long time, he didn’t feel as burdened by the silence.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Conan found himself spending more and more time at the Kudo mansion. It wasn’t deliberate at first—a case here, a quiet afternoon there—but it soon became his sanctuary. The place carried a comforting weight of familiarity, but it was Akai’s presence that truly transformed it into something more. Here, he didn’t have to wear the mask of a child, nor the burden of a detective. Here, he could just… be.On one such afternoon, the sun poured through the tall windows of the living room, painting golden patterns on the floor. Conan was sprawled on the couch, a mystery novel open in his lap. He huffed audibly, his brow furrowed.“This author really thinks they’re clever with this twist,” he muttered, rolling his eyes. From the other end of the room, Akai looked up from his spot by the window, a mug of coffee in hand. A faint smirk tugged at his lips. “What would you have done differently, Detective?”Conan launched into a sharp critique, gesturing animatedly with the book in hand. His voice carried both passion and amusement, a rare break from his usual composed demeanor. Akai’s gaze never left him, his smirk softening into something more subtle, more intimate. He didn’t interrupt, letting Conan’s words wash over him. There was something magnetic about seeing the boy—no, Shinichi—so unguarded.By the time Conan finally stopped to breathe, Akai chuckled softly. “You’re merciless, aren’t you?”“Just honest,” Conan replied with a shrug, though his lips twitched into a smile.Hours passed, the golden light shifting to a softer amber hue. Conan had dozed off on the couch, the mystery novel forgotten beside him. Akai, who had been sitting nearby, moved quietly. He draped a blanket over the boy, pausing for a moment. Conan’s face, usually sharp with focus or mischievous wit, was serene in sleep. Akai’s hand hovered briefly before retreating, his movements careful, almost reverent. When Conan stirred, blinking groggily, he saw Akai sitting by the window, methodically cleaning his gun. The sight was oddly comforting. Akai’s jacket hung over the back of a nearby chair, his sleeves rolled up, revealing the strength in his forearms.“You should’ve gone back,” Akai said without looking up, his voice calm but warm.Conan rubbed his eyes, sitting up. The blanket pooled around his waist. “This is home,” he mumbled, almost absently, before realizing what he’d said. His cheeks reddened slightly, but Akai only smiled faintly, as if he’d heard exactly what he needed to.The next evening, they sat on the mansion’s veranda, the sun dipping low in the sky. Conan leaned back on his hands, his legs stretched out in front of him. The scent of blooming flowers mingled with the crisp evening air. Akai sat beside him, close enough that their shoulders brushed lightly. The quiet was companionable, broken only by the occasional chirp of crickets.Conan sighed, his gaze distant. The weight of unsolved cases and secrets pressed heavily on his young shoulders. Akai, sensing his mood, placed a steady hand on his back. The warmth of the gesture seeped through Conan’s shirt, grounding him.“You don’t have to carry everything on your own, Shinichi-kun,” Akai murmured, his voice barely audible over the rustling leaves.Conan stiffened briefly at the sound of his real name, but then he relaxed, the tension in his frame ebbing away.Days turned into weeks, and the mansion became a space where Conan felt free to let his guard down. Akai’s quiet attentiveness only deepened their bond. He began to notice things—how Akai’s gaze lingered on him during moments of unspoken understanding, how his voice softened in ways it didn’t with others, how he always seemed to anticipate what Conan needed before he asked. It was during one such moment that the realization struck. Conan was lying on the couch again, this time idly flipping through a notebook. Akai was at the table, his fingers deftly disassembling and reassembling his sniper rifle. The light from the chandelier above cast a faint glow over the room.Conan glanced up, catching Akai watching him. The look in his eyes was fleeting but unmistakable—a mixture of tenderness and longing that made Conan’s breath hitch. He blinked, his thoughts suddenly racing. The pieces clicked into place, the quiet gestures and lingering gazes forming a clear picture.Akai cared for him—not just as an ally or a friend, but as something deeper. And now, Conan wasn’t sure what to do with that knowledge. The realization hit Conan like a bolt of lightning. One moment, he was seated comfortably on the couch, watching Akai at the table meticulously assembling and disassembling his sniper rifle, the steady clicks and quiet hums of concentration filling the room. The next, the warmth in Akai’s gaze when their eyes met felt too much—too overwhelming, too piercing. Every kind word, every lingering look, every protective gesture over the past few weeks suddenly clicked into place with a clarity that made Conan’s chest tighten. He’s in love with me.The thought spiraled out of control, twisting into a thousand different directions. He fumbled with the book in his lap, barely hearing Akai’s calm, “Is something wrong, Conan-kun?”“I-I just remembered something!” Conan shot to his feet, the words tumbling out hastily, his heart hammering. “I need to… Hakase—uh, I need to talk to Hakase!”Akai’s hands stilled on the rifle, his confusion evident as he set down the bolt he had been inspecting. “Do you want me to drop you off?”“No!” Conan’s response came too quickly, his voice too high-pitched. Clearing his throat, he added, “No, thank you, Akai-san. I’ll manage on my own.”Grabbing his backpack, Conan bolted out the door before Akai could say another word. He barely remembered the walk to Agasa Hakase’s house, his thoughts a jumbled mess of panic and confusion.Hakase greeted him with a warm smile as always, but it faltered when he saw the troubled expression on Conan’s face.“Shinichi? What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”Conan dropped his backpack by the door and slumped onto the couch, running a hand through his hair. “Hakase… I think—no, I know Akai-san is in love with me.”Hakase’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Akai-san? You’re certain?”Conan nodded, his face a mix of exasperation and embarrassment. “The way he looks at me, the things he says, the… the way he is around me. I didn’t realize it before, but now—it’s obvious. And I—I don’t know what to do.”Hakase hummed thoughtfully, settling into his chair. “Well, how do you feel about him?”Conan groaned, leaning back and covering his face with his hands. “I don’t know! That’s the problem. He’s… he’s someone I trust completely. Someone who’s always there for me, who makes me feel safe. But this—this changes things, doesn’t it?”Hakase’s expression softened. “Shinichi, feelings are complicated. It’s natural to feel confused, especially when it comes to someone as important as Akai-san. But I think the first thing you need to figure out is how you feel—without worrying about what it might mean for him or for you.”Conan let his hands fall to his lap, staring at the floor. “What if I mess things up? What if this ruins everything?”Hakase smiled gently. “Shinichi, you’re one of the smartest people I know. And if there’s anyone who can figure this out, it’s you. Just take your time. You don’t need to rush into anything—Akai-san cares about you deeply, and I don’t think that will change, no matter what.”Conan nodded slowly, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. “Yeah… maybe you’re right. I just—need to think this through.”Hakase patted his shoulder reassuringly. “You’ve faced scarier things than this, Shinichi. I have no doubt you’ll figure it out.”The days stretched into weeks, and Akai couldn’t shake the growing unease gnawing at him. It had been nearly two weeks since Conan last visited the mansion. At first, Akai chalked it up to the boy’s usual busyness—cases, school, perhaps even the occasional need for downtime. But as the days passed, and his sporadic texts to Conan were met with vague, one-word responses or delayed replies, Akai started to sense that something was wrong. He’d even tried reaching out to Hakase. “Is something going on with Conan?” he’d asked casually when they crossed paths in town.Hakase had smiled too quickly, waving a hand dismissively. “Oh, you know Shinichi—he’s always got a lot on his plate. Don’t worry about it.”But the scientist’s evasive tone had only made Akai more restless. He was a man who thrived on action, on being able to solve problems, but this—this waiting, this not knowing—was driving him to distraction. For the first time in years, Akai found himself pacing, replaying their last conversation in his mind, trying to pinpoint what could have gone wrong.Meanwhile, Conan was struggling in his own way. The realization of Akai’s feelings—and the questions they’d stirred about his own—loomed over him like a storm cloud. He barely paid attention in class, his usually sharp mind dulled by the endless loop of thoughts. Was it admiration? Was it affection? Or was it something deeper, something he wasn’t ready to admit even to himself?During a particularly dreary afternoon, he sat at his desk in school, staring blankly at the notes on the blackboard. His classmates were chatting around him, the usual hum of chatter filling the room, but Conan was oblivious to it all.“Earth to Edogawa-Kun.”The sharp voice cut through his foggy thoughts, and Conan blinked up to find Haibara staring down at him, her arms crossed. Her usual calm expression was tinged with impatience.“You’ve been out of it for weeks,” she said, her tone matter-of-fact but laced with concern. “Do you even remember what the teacher just said?”Conan groaned, rubbing his temples. “I’m fine, Haibara. Just… thinking.”“Clearly,” she said dryly, pulling up a chair to sit beside him. “Want to share what’s been occupying all those brilliant detective neurons of yours? Or do I need to guess?”He hesitated, his gaze flickering away. “It’s personal.”“More personal than letting yourself spiral like this?” she shot back, her voice softening. “You’re distracted, Kudo-Kun. And that’s not like you. Whatever this is, it’s not going to fix itself if you just keep bottling it up.”Conan sighed, slumping forward to rest his chin on his hands. “It’s… complicated.”“I gathered that much,” Haibara said with a raised brow. Then, after a moment’s pause, she added, “Why don’t you talk to your parents?”Conan stiffened, his first instinct to dismiss the idea outright. But Haibara’s piercing gaze didn’t waver.“You trust them, don’t you?” she pressed. “If anyone can give you clarity, it’s the people who know you best. And I have a feeling this isn’t something you should tackle alone.”Conan stared at her, the weight of her words sinking in. His parents were the only ones who truly understood both sides of his life—his role as a detective and the childlike facade he was forced to maintain. If there was anyone who could help him untangle this mess, it was them. For the first time in days, Conan felt a small flicker of hope. “Maybe you’re right,” he admitted quietly.Haibara smirked, standing up and patting him lightly on the shoulder. “Of course I am. Now, get through the rest of the day without staring off into space, will you? It’s starting to get embarrassing.”Despite himself, Conan let out a faint chuckle. “I’ll try.”As Haibara returned to her seat, Conan’s thoughts began to shift. The idea of speaking to his parents was daunting, but maybe—just maybe—it was exactly what he needed. The night was quiet, save for the soft hum of the cicadas outside. Conan sat on his futon, his phone clutched tightly in his hand as he stared at the ceiling. The idea of calling his parents had taken root in his mind ever since Haibara’s suggestion earlier that day. But now, as his thumb hovered over his mother’s number, hesitation clawed at him. What if they didn’t understand? What if they dismissed it as a fleeting moment of confusion? He shook his head. This was his only chance to sort through the chaos in his heart. With a deep breath, he tapped the screen, and the line rang twice before Yukiko’s familiar, cheerful voice came through.“Shin-chan! It’s so late. Is everything okay?”“Mom, can I talk to you and Dad? It’s… important,” Conan said, his voice quiet but steady. The shift in Yukiko’s tone was immediate. “Of course, honey. Hold on, let me grab your father.”A few moments later, Yusaku’s calm, composed voice joined the line. “Shinichi? What’s on your mind?”For a moment, Conan couldn’t find the words. The silence stretched, and Yukiko’s voice softened. “Sweetheart, you can tell us anything. You know that.”Taking a shaky breath, Conan began. “It’s about… someone. Someone I’ve been spending a lot of time with.”“Oh?” Yukiko’s voice immediately took on a teasing lilt. “Do I sense a crush?”“Mom,” Conan groaned, pressing a hand to his face. “It’s not… It’s not that simple.”Yusaku’s voice cut through the light-heartedness. “Go on, Shinichi.”Encouraged by his father’s steady tone, Conan continued, recounting everything—the moments of quiet camaraderie at the mansion, Akai’s unexpected warmth, the way he’d come to feel completely at ease in his presence. And finally, the moment when he realized what Akai felt for him.“And now I don’t know what to do,” Conan finished, his voice barely above a whisper. “I can’t stop thinking about it. About him. And it’s—confusing.”There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Yukiko spoke, her voice tender. “Oh, Shinichi. It sounds like you’ve been carrying a lot on your shoulders.”“You care about him,” Yusaku said, his tone more statement than question.“I do,” Conan admitted, the words tumbling out before he could stop them. “But I don’t know if it’s the same. Or if it’s… enough.”Yusaku’s voice was thoughtful. “Shinichi, you’ve always been someone who overthinks. But sometimes, the answers aren’t in your head—they’re in your heart.”“My heart?” Conan echoed, his brow furrowing.“Yes,” Yusaku said simply. “When you think about him, how do you feel? Does it bring you peace, or does it trouble you? When you imagine your life without him in it, does it feel emptier?”Conan’s breath caught at the questions, his mind flashing to the nights he’d spent at the mansion, the quiet moments shared with Akai, the warmth that lingered long after they’d parted. The thought of losing that—of losing him—made his chest ache in a way he couldn’t ignore.“You don’t have to have all the answers now,” Yukiko added gently. “But don’t shut yourself off from what you’re feeling, Shinichi. Let it guide you.”Conan closed his eyes, his grip on the phone tightening. “Thanks, Mom. Dad. I’ll… I’ll think about it.”“We’re always here for you, no matter what,” Yukiko said warmly.“And Shinichi,” Yusaku added, a note of quiet encouragement in his voice, “don’t be afraid to take your time. But when you’re ready, be honest—with yourself and with him.”Conan nodded, even though they couldn’t see it. “I will.”As he ended the call, Conan sat in the stillness of his room, Yusaku’s words echoing in his mind. Look deep down in your heart. And for the first time in weeks, he felt a small, tentative sense of clarity.Conan set the phone down beside him, the soft click of it meeting the floor barely registering. The faint hum of the night surrounded him, but inside his heart, it was chaos. He leaned back against the futon, his father’s words echoing endlessly in his mind.Look deep down in your heart. You’ll find the answer. For a long moment, he stared at the ceiling, its shadows shifting like thoughts that wouldn’t settle. With a shaky breath, Conan closed his eyes, forcing himself to block out the noise, the questions, the lingering doubts. If there was ever a time to find clarity, it was now.He let his mind wander—not to logic or deductions, but to the quiet moments that had filled the last few months. He thought of Akai in the library, seated at the table, disassembling and reassembling his sniper rifle with precision, the faint metallic clicks somehow comforting in the silence. He remembered the calm focus in Akai’s expression, the slight furrow of his brow as if Conan’s presence gave him a strange kind of peace. He remembered Akai’s voice, low and steady, wrapping around him in ways he hadn’t noticed until now. The way he would speak to Conan—not to the persona of a boy, but to the real him, to Shinichi. No masks, no pretense—just the person Conan wasn’t even sure he knew how to be anymore. And then there was the touch—the rare moments when Akai’s guard fell, when his hand brushed Conan’s shoulder, lingering just long enough to feel the warmth there. Or the night they sat on the floor beneath the glass ceiling, sunlight streaming down around them, Akai pressing his face into Conan’s lap as if he could hide from the world there. That vulnerability, that trust—that love.Conan’s breath hitched as his heart squeezed tight in his chest. At the time, Conan had been too stunned to process it, too overwhelmed by his own confusion to recognize the truth. But now, as he looked deeper into his heart, he realized he didn’t need to wonder anymore.Because the answer had been there all along, in the way Akai’s presence quieted the storm of his life, in the way Akai looked at him like he was the only thing in the world that mattered. And in the way Conan found himself yearning to be near him, to hear his voice, to feel his warmth.I love him too.The thought rose unbidden, but once it was there, it took root, strong and undeniable. It wasn’t shocking or frightening—it was simply true. And with that truth came a sense of calm, a weight lifting from his chest that he hadn’t even realized he’d been carrying.A small, tearful laugh escaped him as he opened his eyes, staring up at the ceiling once more. How had he not seen it sooner? How had he let himself be so blind? He pressed a hand to his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heart, and let his eyes drift closed again. The realization was warm, comforting, like a long-lost puzzle piece sliding into place. As he drifted off to sleep, a soft smile played on his lips, lingering even as dreams claimed him.And in those dreams, there was only Akai, his steadfast presence anchoring Conan to a love he hadn’t known he was capable of finding.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The next morning, the sun rose bright and clear, casting warm streaks of light through the bustling streets. Conan had barely touched his breakfast, his thoughts racing ahead of him. Before he knew it, he was out the door, heading toward the Kudo mansion. He wasn’t entirely sure what he planned to say or do when he got there—all he knew was that he wanted to see Akai. Needed to.His heart thudded in his chest as he reached the front door. With slightly trembling hands, he punched in the security code and stepped inside. The house was eerily quiet, the only sound the soft creak of the floorboards beneath his feet.“Akai-san?” he called out, his voice echoing in the stillness. No answer.Conan frowned, heading toward the guest room Akai had claimed as his own. The door was ajar, light spilling into the hallway. He peeked inside—and froze.Akai stood by the open wardrobe, his back to the door. His broad shoulders were unmistakable, the kind that seemed carved from stone, with muscles rippling subtly as he moved. Scars traced faint lines across his sun-kissed skin, evidence of a life spent in danger’s path. The way his shoulder blades shifted beneath his skin was mesmerizing, a quiet display of power.A towel was draped haphazardly over his neck, catching stray droplets of water from his damp hair. His shirt hung loose, unbuttoned and slipping off one shoulder, revealing the sharp planes of his chest and the defined ridges of his abdomen. A faint sheen from his recent shower caught the morning light, highlighting every dip and contour.Conan’s face turned a vivid shade of red.“Ak-Akai-san!” he squeaked before immediately slapping a hand over his mouth, cursing himself for the outburst.Akai turned sharply, his eyes wide in surprise before a slow, amused smile spread across his face.“Good morning, Shinichi,” he said, his deep voice holding a teasing lilt. He made no move to cover himself, reaching for his shirt with deliberate ease. “Didn’t realize I had an audience.”Conan turned away so fast he nearly smacked into the doorframe, his cheeks burning. “I—I didn’t know you were—um—sorry, I’ll wait outside!”But before he could retreat, Akai’s voice stopped him.“You came looking for me?”There was a softness in the question that made Conan’s racing heart stumble. Slowly, he turned back, his eyes darting everywhere except at Akai’s chest.“I just… I wanted to see you,” Conan admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.Akai’s expression shifted, his teasing smile softening into something warmer, something that made Conan’s stomach do a flip.“Well,” Akai said as he shrugged on his shirt, leaving it lazily unbuttoned, “you’ve got me now.”Conan swallowed hard, his thoughts a jumbled mess. Whatever he had planned to say was forgotten, replaced by the dizzying realization of how much this man affected him.“Coffee?” Akai asked, breaking the moment as he gestured toward the kitchen.Conan nodded dumbly, following him out of the room, his heart pounding louder than ever.Conan’s cheeks were still warm as Akai chuckled, slipping his shirt back on with deliberate slowness. The boy’s gaze darted away, but not before Akai caught the faintest trace of a blush on his face.“I take it you came here for a reason?” Akai asked, his tone amused but curious.Conan cleared his throat, gripping the straps of his backpack tightly. “Yeah… I, uh…” He glanced at the table, where Akai had set down his coffee. “I needed to see you.”That simple admission hung in the air, soft but potent. Akai’s expression softened, the teasing glint in his eyes replaced by something gentler.“I’m here,” he said, moving toward Conan. “What’s on your mind?”Conan hesitated, the weight of his feelings pressing down on him. But he hadn’t come all this way to just blurt everything out now. Thankfully, there was another reason for his early visit: “I… I found something about the Organization. It might not be much, but it’s a lead we should follow up on.”Akai’s brow furrowed, the sharp professionalism Conan had grown used to slipping into place. “What kind of lead?”“It’s better if I show you.” Conan pulled out his phone, opening a series of photos and notes he’d gathered. Akai leaned in, his proximity making Conan’s heart race again. As they reviewed the intel, Akai’s expression turned thoughtful. “If this is accurate, it’s worth checking out. When do you want to go?”“Now,” Conan said without hesitation. “The sooner, the better.”Akai glanced at the clock. “It’ll be late by the time we’re done.”“I don’t mind,” Conan replied, his voice firm.Akai’s lips quirked in a small smile. “All right. Let’s go.”The drive back was quiet, the silence heavy but companionable. The night wrapped around them like a thick blanket, broken only by the hum of the engine. Their mission had gone smoothly—silent communication, seamless teamwork. By the time they finished, exhaustion weighed on both of them.Suddenly, Akai slowed the car, easing it off the road and onto the shoulder. The crunch of gravel under the tires broke the silence.Conan glanced up from the passenger seat, puzzled. “What is it?”Akai tilted his head toward the windshield, his voice calm. “Look.”Conan’s eyes followed his gesture. Beyond the stretch of darkened road lay a lake, its surface shimmering under the low-hanging moon. The water reflected the stars and surrounding forest, creating an otherworldly tapestry of light and shadow.“It’s… beautiful,” Conan murmured, his voice hushed.Akai opened the door, the cold night air sweeping into the car. “Let’s stretch our legs.”Conan hesitated but followed. Outside, the crisp breeze carried the faint scent of pine and earth. The night hummed with the quiet symphony of crickets and rustling leaves. The lake, tranquil and untouched, seemed like a scene from a dream. They walked along the shore, the ground uneven beneath their feet. Smooth stones glinted faintly, and tufts of wild grass brushed against their legs. Akai’s strides were unhurried, his hands deep in his pockets. Conan trailed behind, stealing occasional glances at him.“What’s on your mind?” Conan asked, breaking the silence.Akai stopped, his gaze fixed on the water. For a long moment, he said nothing. Then, without warning, he grasped the hem of his shirt and tugged it over his head.Conan blinked. “What are you doing?”Akai didn’t answer immediately. The moonlight played across his bare torso, highlighting the contours of his body. His muscles were defined but not overstated, his skin marked with faint scars—each one a silent testament to battles fought and survived. The lines of his shoulders and the curve of his arms spoke of strength honed over years of discipline.“Enjoying the moment,” Akai said at last, his voice low and unhurried.Conan gawked as Akai unbuckled his belt and stepped out of his pants, leaving him clad only in plain black briefs.“You can’t just—” Conan started, his voice rising in pitch, but his words caught in his throat as Akai casually slid the briefs down, letting them fall to the ground. The moon bathed his body in a soft glow, emphasizing every detail—the sharp angles of his collarbones, the taper of his waist, the powerful lines of his legs. He moved with a natural confidence, utterly unselfconscious, as though the world itself belonged to him in that moment.“Unbelievable,” Conan muttered, quickly averting his gaze. His cheeks burned with embarrassment.“Am I?” Akai teased, his tone light. “It’s just skin. Nothing you haven’t seen before.”“I didn’t ask to see it!” Conan shot back, his voice muffled as he covered his eyes with his hands.Akai chuckled softly and strode toward the water, his steps measured and deliberate. The lake greeted him with a quiet ripple, the water lapping at his calves, then his waist. He turned back, a faint smile tugging at his lips.“No one’s here but us,” Akai said, his voice carrying across the stillness. “This is our moment. No one else will ever know.”Conan peeked through his fingers, reluctantly lowering his hands. “You’re insane.”“Perhaps,” Akai replied, tilting his head back as he let the water buoy him. The moonlight reflected off his face, serene and unguarded.Conan hesitated, torn between disbelief and curiosity. There was something captivating about Akai’s ease, his complete surrender to the moment.“You’re overthinking it,” Akai called, his voice warm and inviting. “Relax. It’s been a long day.”With a groan of resignation, Conan began untying his shoes. “If anyone ever finds out about this…”“They won’t,” Akai said with quiet certainty. “This is just for us.”The weight of his words settled over Conan, a strange comfort in their finality. Sighing, piece by piece, Conan stripped down, his movements hesitant and his cheeks burning. When he finally stood at the water’s edge, he crossed his arms, his bare toes curling against the cool stones.“Happy now?” Conan grumbled.Akai smirked. “Getting there.”Conan stepped into the water, shivering as the cool liquid lapped at his skin. Akai met him halfway, his hand outstretched as though to guide him deeper. For a moment, Conan just stared at him, the moonlight casting Akai in a glow that was both intimidating and inviting. And then, with a small smile, he took Akai’s hand. The water wrapped around them like a comforting embrace, the world beyond the lake forgotten.“You’re not bad at this whole ‘relaxing’ thing,” Akai teased.“Don’t push your luck,” Conan muttered, though his lips twitched upward. And as they floated together beneath the stars, the tension between them softened, replaced by an unspoken understanding that neither was quite ready to put into words. The cool water felt like silk against Conan’s skin as he floated lazily, the ripples of the lake soothing his mind. Akai drifted nearby, his calm demeanour masking the faint glimmer of amusement in his eyes.“You’re surprisingly quiet,” Conan commented, his voice soft as he let his body float with the gentle current, his guard lowering as he relaxed.Akai’s lips quirked upward, his posture relaxed but his gaze sharp. “Just enjoying the peace.”Conan nodded, though he couldn't shake the feeling that Akai was up to something. His suspicion was proven correct a moment later. In a flash, a strong hand wrapped around his ankle, and before he could react, he was yanked downward into the depths of the lake. The cool rush of water flooded over his head, and he flailed in surprise, bubbles escaping from his lips as he scrambled to orient himself. When he surfaced, gasping for air, Akai stood a few feet away, his posture casual but a smug smile tugging at his lips.“You did not just do that!” Conan sputtered, his voice a mix of indignation and disbelief as he wiped water from his face.Akai only shrugged, his smirk widening. “Couldn’t resist.”A fire ignited in Conan’s chest. “Oh, you’re so dead.”Without waiting, Conan dove back under the water, adrenaline rushing through him. Using the element of surprise, he swam swiftly, emerging behind Akai with a triumphant splash. A wave of water crashed over Akai’s head, soaking him completely.“Boya!” Akai exclaimed, laughing as he wiped the water from his eyes, looking at Conan with a mock glare.“Revenge is sweet,” Conan teased, his grin widening as he darted around to avoid another retaliatory splash from Akai. The playful exchange continued, each splash and splash-back a reminder of their unspoken bond, their laughter intertwining with the lapping sounds of the water. Akai retaliated with a series of expertly timed splashes, but Conan, despite his smaller frame, proved surprisingly quick and agile, easily dodging and returning the attacks. At one point, Akai lunged toward Conan, and Conan squealed—an uncharacteristic sound that he immediately regretted—as he darted away in a flurry of bubbles. But Akai, with a wolfish grin, was faster. He wrapped an arm around Conan’s waist, lifting him slightly out of the water.Caught off guard, Conan’s breath hitched at the unexpected closeness. Akai’s strong arm held him effortlessly, his grip firm but gentle. The cool water swirled around them as Conan’s heart raced, unsure whether it was from the physical closeness or the sudden change in atmosphere.“Got you,” Akai murmured, his voice low and teasing, but there was something else in it—an edge of something more.Conan’s breath caught again as he looked up into Akai’s eyes. They were impossibly close now, their faces mere inches apart. The laughter they shared moments before faded, leaving behind a charged silence that hung in the air, thick with unspoken tension.Akai’s thumb traced the line of Conan’s side, a soft touch that sent a shiver through Conan’s spine. The touch was almost deliberate in its gentleness, his fingers brushing against the smooth skin just below the water’s surface.“You’re full of surprises,” Akai murmured, his voice quieter, more intimate than before. His gaze softened, and there was a faint smile on his lips, one that wasn’t quite playful but had a tenderness to it that made Conan’s chest tighten. Before Conan could respond, Akai closed the distance between them even more. He shifted slightly, bringing his forehead to rest against Conan’s with a soft, steady pressure. Conan froze at the contact, feeling Akai’s warmth, his steady breath, and the unexpected intimacy of the moment. The water swirled around them, but in that instant, the world seemed to shrink, leaving only the two of them in that suspended space.Akai closed his eyes, his breathing deepening as he relaxed against Conan. For a moment, Conan didn’t know what to do. But something in Akai’s quiet, unspoken presence made his chest feel lighter, more at ease. He let himself go, the tension from the playful struggle melting away. Slowly, he allowed his body to relax further into Akai’s, his own forehead resting against Akai’s shoulder as he closed his eyes. The water, cool against their skin, seemed to heighten the warmth between them. Conan’s body gradually softened in Akai’s hold, and without thinking, he shifted just enough to lay his head against Akai’s chest, feeling the steady thrum of his heartbeat beneath the skin. Akai’s arm remained loosely around Conan, a gentle anchor as they both stayed still, lost in the moment. The world around them seemed to disappear, leaving just the quiet hum of the water and the soothing sound of Akai’s breathing.Neither of them spoke. They didn’t need to. The silence was comforting, the closeness undeniable. Time passed slowly, the only movement between them the gentle shifting of the water, the occasional soft ripple when either of them moved. But even then, they stayed close, not rushing to break the connection.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Finally, after a long while, Akai gently pulled back, though he didn’t release Conan immediately. They both took a moment to breathe, eyes meeting once again—neither of them in a hurry to leave the serenity of the lake. With a soft smile, Akai brushed a wet strand of hair away from Conan’s face. “We should probably head back before we catch a cold.”Conan nodded, his heart still fluttering in his chest. “Yeah…”They both swam back to the shore, though neither of them rushed to get dressed. The night air was cool against their skin, but the warmth of the moment lingered between them. They lay on the soft grass, side by side, still without any hurry to cover themselves. Conan nestled closer to Akai’s side, resting his head on Akai’s hand as a pillow, their bodies still warm from the water. They didn’t speak much, content to simply watch the moonlight reflect off the lake, the sky stretched out above them in a vast, peaceful quiet. Akai’s fingers gently brushed through Conan’s hair, his touch tender and unhurried. Conan, feeling utterly at ease, let himself sink further into the comfort of the moment, savouring the warmth and the stillness between them.Conan shifted slightly, tilting his head to glance at Akai. The motion brought him closer, his cheek brushing against the warmth of Akai’s arm. His voice, when he spoke, was soft, laced with curiosity.“So…” Conan began hesitantly, his words lingering in the air. “You didn’t hesitate, did you?”Akai turned his head, the faintest smile tugging at his lips. The sharp angles of his face softened under the moonlight, his dark eyes meeting Conan’s with a calm intensity. “Hesitate about what?”“Undressing,” Conan clarified, his cheeks tinting pink despite the playful edge in his tone. “Completely. In front of me.”Akai chuckled, the sound low and warm. His gaze didn’t waver, and his expression remained utterly serene. “Why would I?” he replied simply, his voice steady and rich. “There’s nothing between us I feel the need to hide.”The sincerity in Akai’s words caught Conan off guard, leaving him momentarily speechless. He had expected some teasing retort or a nonchalant shrug, but this? This openness and unflinching honesty unsettled and comforted him all at once.“You really trust me that much?” Conan asked softly, his voice tinged with wonder.Akai shifted onto his side, propping himself up slightly to face Conan more directly. The movement caused the muscles in his shoulders and arms to ripple subtly, the moonlight highlighting the scars etched into his skin—each one a testament to the battles he’d endured. His eyes, softer now, held a depth of emotion that made Conan’s chest tighten.“Of course,” Akai murmured. His voice was like velvet, wrapping around the moment and making it theirs alone. “I don’t mind being vulnerable with you. With you, I don’t have to pretend.”The raw honesty in Akai’s voice made Conan’s heart race. His pulse thrummed in his ears as the weight of Akai’s words settled over him. It wasn’t just physical exposure Akai was talking about—it was something far deeper, something Conan hadn’t fully grasped until now.“You don’t mind being… exposed like that? Even in front of me?” Conan asked, his voice trembling slightly. The word “exposed” carried a weight that went beyond the literal, and the intimacy it implied made his throat tighten.Akai smiled, a soft curve of his lips that seemed to hold an entire world of meaning. His hand moved, brushing against Conan’s hair before tracing idle patterns in the grass beside them. “No, I don’t mind,” he said quietly. “Being comfortable with someone isn’t shameless. If anything, it’s freeing. And with you, it feels… natural.”Conan swallowed hard, his face warming as he processed the weight of Akai’s words. The quiet vulnerability in Akai’s tone resonated with something deep inside him. It wasn’t just trust—it was the kind of bond that defied explanation, built on shared experiences and unspoken understanding.“I’m not used to this,” Conan admitted after a moment, his voice small. “I mean, I trust you, but… being this open, this close—it’s new.”Akai leaned closer, his hand moving to rest lightly on Conan’s shoulder. The warmth of his touch was grounding, steadying. His gaze, intense yet gentle, seemed to strip away every defense Conan had ever built.“I trust you,” Akai said simply. His voice was low, meant only for Conan. “And there’s nothing I need to hide from you. This moment? It’s ours. No one else will ever know. No one else can touch this.”Conan’s breath hitched, the quiet conviction in Akai’s voice making something inside him shift. Without thinking, he moved closer, his small frame leaning into Akai’s larger one. His head came to rest against Akai’s chest, the warmth and solidity of his body both foreign and comforting.Akai’s arm curled around him instinctively, his hand settling on Conan’s side. His fingers traced slow, soothing patterns, the motion gentle and protective.“I trust you too,” Conan whispered, his voice barely audible. “More than I thought I could.”Akai’s touch didn’t falter, his steady hand a silent promise. “That’s all I need to hear,” he said, his voice soft, like a secret meant only for Conan. “That’s enough.”The warmth between them felt like an unspoken promise, something that neither of them needed to say out loud but both felt deeply in the silence. Neither of them rushed to fill it with words. They simply lay there, together in the quiet intimacy of the night, their connection stronger and deeper than it had ever been before. The moonlight bathed them in a soft, silvery glow, the night around them quiet and serene. Lying side by side, Conan (or rather, Shinichi) rested his head on Akai’s chest, the steady rise and fall of his heartbeat calming. The silence between them was warm, peaceful, but there was a palpable undercurrent of something more—something neither of them could ignore.Akai’s fingers gently brushed through Shinichi’s hair, his touch tender, almost reverent. There was a quiet intimacy in the simple gesture, and it made Shinichi feel more connected to him than ever before. Every beat of his heart seemed to echo louder than the night air, and yet, the stillness between them felt comforting. Then, Akai’s voice broke the silence, soft but unwavering.“Shinichi,” he began, using Shinichi’s real name, and for a moment, Shinichi’s breath caught in his throat. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.” Akai paused, his fingers now gently caressing Shinichi’s arm, as though contemplating the weight of his words. “I want you. Not just like this, not just in this moment, but all of you. Emotionally, physically... in every way.”Shinichi’s heart skipped a beat. He had known. But hearing it—spoken aloud with such sincerity—felt like a floodgate opening. He swallowed, trying to steady his breath, the words catching in his chest.Akai, sensing his hesitation, continued with a quiet intensity. “I’ve wanted this for so long, Shinichi. And I know I’ve never felt this way about anyone. Not like this. Not with this kind of certainty.” His eyes softened, and he lowered his voice. “I want to love you. I want to be with you.”Shinichi took a deep breath, his chest tightening with the rawness of Akai’s confession. He reached up, his hand gently resting on Akai’s chest, feeling the steady thump of his heart beneath his palm. “Akai-san...” he whispered, his voice barely audible, but filled with the weight of his own feelings. “I want that, too.”Akai’s expression softened even further, and a small smile tugged at his lips. He took a moment to study Shinichi’s face, as if memorizing every detail. “Then... let’s stop pretending, Shinichi.” Akai said, his voice now almost a whisper. “Call me Shuichi. I want to hear you say it.”Shinichi’s breath caught again, and he looked up at Akai, searching his eyes. It was an intimate request, one that showed just how deep their bond had become in such a short time. His heart pounded in his chest as he finally nodded, his voice soft but sure. “Shuichi-san,” he whispered, savouring the sound of Akai’s first name, the intimacy of it settling between them like a promise.Shuichi closed his eyes for a brief moment, and when he opened them again, there was something unspoken in his gaze. He leaned down, his forehead resting gently against Shinichi’s. Their breaths mingled in the quiet, the connection between them palpable and undeniable.“I’ve wanted this for so long,” Shuichi murmured, his voice low and filled with emotion. “To be with you. To love you, in every way.”Shinichi’s heart fluttered as he allowed himself to relax further against Shuichi’s chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat under his ear. It was everything he had ever wanted, and yet, it felt even more real now that the words had been spoken aloud.“I’m here,” Shinichi whispered, his voice soft and steady. “And I want to be with you, too. In every way.”Shuichi’s hand gently cupped Shinichi’s face, tilting his chin up so their eyes met. For a long moment, they simply stared at each other, a quiet understanding passing between them. There was no fear, no hesitation—only the certainty of their feelings for one another.“I love you, Shinichi,” Shuichi said, his voice barely more than a breath, his words honest and raw. “I want everything with you.”Shinichi’s heart skipped again, but this time, there was no uncertainty. He smiled, his hand coming to rest on Shuichi’s, the warmth of his touch grounding him. “I love you, too,” he whispered back, his voice steady and full of truth. In that moment, there was no need for anything more. The connection between them was clear—stronger than ever before, grounded in love and trust. They didn’t need to rush, didn’t need to say anything more. All that mattered was the quiet intimacy of the moment, the way their hearts beat together in the soft night. They lay there for a long time, the quiet of the night surrounding them as they held each other, the words between them still lingering in the air. Shinichi’s head remained resting against Shuichi’s chest, and for a while, neither of them moved. The weight of their confession, the bond they shared, felt comforting in its quiet depth. But eventually, the night grew cooler, and the stillness began to fade into a gentle restlessness. Slowly, Shuichi moved first, gently lifting his head from Shinichi’s and pulling away slightly. The space between them was brief, but it felt significant, like a quiet acknowledgment that the moment had come to an end, and reality would soon return.Conan sat up, stretching his arms above his head, the cool air brushing against his skin. He glanced over at Shuichi, who was already standing and offering him a hand to help him up. There was no rush, no urgency. They stood up together, a silent understanding passing between them as they began to gather their things. As they got dressed, the simple act felt like a natural extension of their shared connection. Shinichi took his time, slipping into his clothes, but his thoughts were on the moment they had just shared—one of vulnerability and tenderness. His chest felt light, his heart full. There was no fear, no hesitation now. Just the promise of something real.Once they were both fully dressed, Shinichi stood still for a moment, gazing out at the spot where they had spent the night. The moon had shifted slightly, casting a soft glow over the landscape, and everything felt so quiet, so peaceful. It was as if the world had stood still just for them.Shuichi, noticing his lingering gaze, stepped up beside him. “You like it here?” he asked, his voice soft, but there was something tender in it, as though he understood the weight of Shinichi’s silence.Shinichi nodded, still looking out over the lake. “It’s perfect,” he whispered, his voice quiet but filled with meaning. The place had become more than just a quiet spot by the water—it had become theirs. A place where they could be themselves, a place where the world outside didn’t matter.Shuichi smiled softly, the expression warm and genuine. “We can come back anytime,” he said, his hand gently brushing against Shinichi’s arm. “This will be our place. A place where we can always come back to, no matter what.”Shinichi turned to look at him, his heart swelling at the thought. “I like that,” he said softly, a small smile tugging at his lips. “It’ll be our place.”For a moment, they stood there together, side by side, the peaceful night wrapping around them like a protective embrace. There was no need for more words. The promise of this place, their place, was enough. As they turned to leave, there was a sense of calm between them. It wasn’t just the quiet of the night or the stillness of the air—it was the quiet assurance that they were no longer hiding from each other, that this was only the beginning of something more. Something real. And with that, they walked away from the lake, knowing they would always have this place to return to, a reminder of the moment that had changed everything for them.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
As the days passed, Shinichi found every excuse he could to visit the Kudo mansion. It was no longer just about cases or mere visits—it was a chance to spend more time with Shuichi, a chance to let his walls come down. Each time, he found that his connection with Shuichi was growing deeper. They didn’t just share the same space—they shared themselves, their experiences, their vulnerabilities. One evening, as they sat on the couch in the quiet of the Kudo mansion, the firelight flickering in the background, Shuichi turned toward Shinichi, his voice soft but curious. “You’ve mentioned your parents a few times, but you never really talk about them much. What was it like growing up with them?”Shinichi paused for a moment, his gaze drifting toward the flames. It wasn’t something he often thought about in detail, but now, with Shuichi’s gentle question, he found himself reflecting.“My mom…” Shinichi started slowly, his tone thoughtful, “she was always there for me, always made sure I knew I was loved. She was protective and warm. There was never any doubt in my mind that she cared but at the same time overbearing. But my dad... well, he was different. He was always wrapped up in his work, in his own world. I love him, of course, but I always felt like I had to prove myself to him, like he wasn’t as present in my life as he should’ve been.”Shuichi nodded, listening intently. “That must’ve been tough,” he said. “Especially when you needed him.”Shinichi’s expression softened, and he sighed. “Yeah. I didn’t blame him at first, but it became clearer as I got older. He was so absorbed in his work, I felt like I had to do something extraordinary to get his attention. That is kind of why I took up detective work. I wanted him to notice me, to be proud of me. But I understand now—he was just doing what he thought was best. I guess it’s how he shows love, even if it didn’t always feel like it.”Shuichi’s eyes narrowed slightly, clearly processing what Shinichi had said. He leaned in a little, his voice low and calm as he asked, “What about when you were poisoned? When you almost died...”Shinichi’s chest tightened at the mention of that time. He’d tried to put it out of his mind, but it was still fresh, still a scar that lingered. He glanced at Shuichi, a slight hesitation in his eyes before he spoke.“Well, that’s... a little more complicated. I didn’t want them to interfere with the investigation into the Black Organization. I knew how dangerous it was, and I didn’t want them getting caught up in something like that. I was fine with them being distant then,” he said, his voice steady but betraying a hint of uncertainty.Shuichi nodded, a somber understanding crossing his features. “I get that. You didn’t want them to be dragged into the danger you were in. But... still. You were poisoned, Shinichi. You were close to death. Doesn’t it hurt that they weren’t there when you needed them the most?”Shinichi looked down at his hands, fingers tracing the rim of his glass. “It did. It still does, sometimes. I know they love me. But they’re not really good at showing it, at being there in the ways that matter. I guess it’s just how they are. They always say they love me, and they do—but their love, it’s... different. They show it by supporting me when I need something, by always being there when I call or need help. But in that moment, I needed them more than anything, and they weren’t there. I don’t blame them, though. I never wanted them to get pulled into something that dangerous.”Shuichi’s gaze softened, a quiet sadness in his eyes. He squeezed Shinichi’s hand gently. “I can’t even imagine how that felt. But even if they were distant, it’s clear that they care. They just... don’t know how to show it sometimes.”Shinichi met his gaze, nodding slowly. “Yeah. I think you’re right. My dad, especially, he taught me to be independent, to rely on myself. And he’s always been there when I called, whenever I needed something—money, advice, whatever. But in the really important moments, when I was fighting for my life... I was alone.”Shuichi’s expression softened with empathy, and he reached out to touch Shinichi’s arm reassuringly. “You don’t have to be alone anymore, Shinichi. I’m here for you. You don’t have to carry everything by yourself.”Shinichi’s chest tightened at the sincerity in Shuichi’s words, and he squeezed his hand in return. “I know,” he said quietly, his voice thick with emotion. “It’s... hard sometimes. But it helps, having someone to talk to. I never really had that before.”The silence between them was comfortable, the weight of the conversation settling in. After a while, Shuichi spoke again, his voice quieter now but still filled with warmth. “I can’t pretend to understand everything you’ve been through, but I do know that it’s okay to need people. It’s okay to let others in.”Shinichi’s lips quirked into a small smile, grateful for the support. “Thanks, Shuichi-san. I don’t think I ever realized how much I needed someone to actually be there, rather than just checking in when I needed something.”Shuichi leaned back slightly, a soft smile on his face. “We all need someone, Shinichi. And I’m glad I can be that someone for you.”Shinichi looked down for a moment, letting the words sink in. Then, he turned to Shuichi with a quiet sincerity in his voice. “You don’t know how much that means to me.”The air between them felt lighter now, the heavy emotions they’d shared settling into something more peaceful. For the first time in a long time, Shinichi felt like he didn’t have to carry everything alone, like there was space for him to just... be. And in that space, he knew he could truly heal. The conversation took a turn as Shuichi leaned back, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He seemed to be lost in thought for a moment, before his eyes brightened with a mischievous glint.“You know,” Shuichi began casually, “I remember meeting a certain someone on a beach when I was a bit younger. A little detective, barely eight years old, already obsessed with solving mysteries.”Shinichi blinked in recognition, his expression softening as he remembered. “I remember that day. You solved the case faster than I did, didn’t you?”Shuichi chuckled, clearly enjoying Shinichi’s response. “Yeah, you were pretty good for someone so young. But I could tell, even back then, you had something special. You were destined for something bigger.”Shinichi flushed slightly, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. “I was just a kid back then. I wasn’t thinking about anything other than solving the case.”Shuichi smirked. “Well, that’s what made you stand out. But that day wasn’t just memorable because of you.” He looked at Shinichi with a more serious expression. “It was the same day I made the decision to join the FBI.”Shinichi blinked, surprised. “Wait... really? That day?”Shuichi nodded slowly, his eyes reflecting a distant memory. “Yeah. That was the day I finally decided. I’d been thinking about it for a while, and I felt like everything clicked. I knew I had to make a difference, and the FBI felt like the right place for me.”Shinichi looked at him in disbelief. “But, what about your mother? I thought she didn’t want you to join?”Shuichi sighed, a faint shadow crossing his face. “She didn’t. She was completely against it. She wanted me to stay home, stay safe. She knew the risks, especially after my father disappeared, and she didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps. We had a huge fight about it, and she even left me with a small wound that day.” His expression softened. “But, seeing me solve that case, seeing how determined I was, how much it meant to me... it made her realize that I was ready. And, well... she let me join the FBI after that.”Shinichi’s eyes widened. “She actually let you join?”Shuichi’s lips curled into a small smile. “Yeah, it was tough, but after that day, she saw it wasn’t just a childish dream. It was something I was willing to fight for. And I guess... solving that case with you made her see I had the strength to follow through, even if it meant going against her wishes.”Shinichi’s heart swelled at the realization. “I had no idea I played a part in that.”Shuichi met his gaze, his smile warm and sincere. “You did, Shinichi. You were part of the reason I was able to go after what I wanted. You showed me the kind of detective I wanted to be—someone who would never give up.”Shinichi smiled back, feeling a deeper connection with Shuichi than ever. “I’m glad I could help. Even if I didn’t realize it at the time.”Shuichi’s grin widened, his playful demeanour returning. “Well, I guess we both had our stubborn sides back then, didn’t we?”Shinichi laughed, the bond between them growing stronger as they shared this moment of understanding. “Yeah, stubborn but in the best way possible.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
A few days later, Conan arrived at the Kudo mansion, the familiar comfort of the house always bringing a sense of calm. He had been visiting more often lately, spending time with Shuichi, who had become an irreplaceable part of his life. This morning, Conan had arrived earlier than usual. The house was still quiet, and he decided to check in on Shuichi. He moved through the hallways and quietly approached the guest room. Knocking softly, he waited for a response, but when he heard no answer, he gently pushed the door open. What greeted him was a rare sight—Shuichi, asleep in bed, completely unaware of Conan’s presence. The older man was sprawled out, one arm over his eyes, his messy hair falling into his face. He was only wearing his briefs, and the soft morning light gave the scene a peaceful, almost serene feel.Conan stood for a moment, watching him. There was something calming about seeing Shuichi so vulnerable, so relaxed, and it made his heart swell with a quiet affection. This side of Shuichi, so unguarded and at ease, was one that Conan cherished deeply.Unable to resist, Conan quietly stepped closer and leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to Shuichi’s forehead. The touch was light but lingering, and as he pulled away, he saw Shuichi stir slightly, a low murmur escaping his lips.“Morning…” Shuichi mumbled, his voice thick with sleep, as he instinctively snuggled closer into Conan’s chest, seeking warmth.“Morning,” Conan replied softly, his hand gently running through Shuichi’s messy hair. He allowed the moment to stretch, feeling the warmth of Shuichi’s closeness. But soon, he knew he had to get things moving. With a light chuckle, Conan pulled back slightly. “You should get up, Shuichi-san. We’ve got things to do today.”Shuichi let out a low groan, his eyes still barely open. “Don’t make me get up yet…” he murmured, his arms wrapping around Conan in a sleepy embrace.Conan smiled down at him, still holding him close. “You’ve slept enough,” he teased, though he didn’t move away just yet. It felt nice to be in this moment of quiet with Shuichi.Reluctantly, Shuichi sighed and opened his eyes, blinking against the morning light. He stretched lazily before sitting up, revealing his bare chest. “Fine, fine. You win this time,” he said with a playful smirk.Conan couldn’t help but grin at the sight of him, but before he could say anything else, Shuichi stood and stretched again, this time with more purpose. “I’m just going to freshen up,” he said, and with a glance at Conan, he walked toward the bathroom. As Shuichi stepped into the bathroom, Conan moved to the wardrobe. He opened the door and began sifting through the clothes, deciding on what Shuichi might wear for the day. It wasn’t something he usually did, but he thought it might be fun to surprise Shuichi. He picked out a dark shirt and a pair of comfortable jeans, carefully setting them on the bed for Shuichi to find once he returned.A few minutes later, Shuichi emerged from the bathroom, his hair slightly damp, his skin glistening with a fresh glow. He walked into the room, glancing at the clothes Conan had picked out for him. “You know how to choose my clothes, don’t you?” Shuichi remarked with a teasing grin, clearly surprised by the gesture.Conan shrugged, a playful glint in his eyes. “You’ve got to look good for the day, right?” He gave a small chuckle, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back against the wall, watching Shuichi closely.Shuichi, now aware of Conan’s attention, smirked and slowly dropped the towel around his waist, making a show of casually undressing. He pulled the towel off, revealing his bare chest and toned muscles, and began slipping into the clothes Conan had picked out. His movements were deliberate, drawing out each moment as he put on the shirt, making sure to tease Conan just a little with the way he stretched and moved.Conan watched without looking away, his face flushed as he tried to remain composed. He’d seen Shuichi bare before, but there was something about this situation—Shuichi’s teasing and the intimacy of the moment—that made his heart race.Shuichi paused, noticing the way Conan’s eyes lingered on him. “You’re not shy, are you?” he asked with a playful, mischievous grin.Conan, still blushing, shook his head slightly but didn’t respond immediately. He cleared his throat. “You’re... not shy, are you?”Shuichi chuckled, buttoning up his jeans. “Maybe I’m just giving you a little entertainment,” he teased, his voice low and warm. “You seem to enjoy it.”Conan swallowed, his face still pink but not backing down. “You’re shameless,” he muttered, though a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.Shuichi finished dressing and walked over to Conan, his smirk still in place. “Maybe,” he replied, voice soft and playful, “but you like it.”Conan rolled his eyes, but the warmth in his chest was undeniable. “Let’s just get going,” he said, though there was a hint of affection in his tone.Shuichi chuckled and gave Conan a light pat on the shoulder. “Right, let’s get to it.”The playful exchange ended, but the comfortable, easy feeling between them lingered as they left the room together, ready to face whatever the day had in store. The days passed, and Conan (Shinichi) and Shuichi grew even closer. Their bond, though subtle at times, was undeniable, and they had developed a comfortable routine. It was clear to those around them that their relationship had deepened, and despite the heavy weight of the ongoing Black Organization investigation, they found solace in one another’s company. One afternoon, the FBI agents—Jodie, Camel, and James—arrived at the Kudo mansion for an update on the investigation. They were there on business, not just for pleasantries. The case had escalated, and the agents needed to ensure they were all on the same page.As they settled into the living room, Jodie wasted no time. “Shu, we need to go over the latest developments. Has anything new come through? Any leads?”Shuichi immediately shifted into work mode, his usual calm demeanour taking over. He stood and gestured for the others to gather around the table. “I’ve been following a few leads,” he said, his tone focused and measured. “Nothing concrete yet, but there are some interesting developments. I’ll walk you through the details.”Conan had already proven time and time again that he was a valuable asset in the investigation. His mind worked with remarkable precision, and he often contributed key insights to the case. No one questioned his involvement anymore—it had become routine that he was deeply engaged in the investigation, right alongside Shuichi and the rest of the team.As Shuichi and the agents discussed the case, Conan quietly took a seat nearby, listening intently. He occasionally offered his own thoughts, and the agents simply accepted his contributions as part of the natural flow of things. They knew Conan was no ordinary boy—he had proven himself time and again. At one point, Camel, who had been observing the dynamic between Shuichi and Conan, cleared his throat. “You two… it’s a little different, isn’t it?” he remarked, his tone casual but with a slight sense of curiosity.Shuichi, who had been focused on the conversation, turned his gaze to Camel, raising an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”Camel shrugged, looking between the two of them. “It’s just… interesting. You’ve always kept a bit of a distance from everyone, Akai-san. But with Conan, it’s different. You two seem to… fit well together.”Shuichi paused for a moment, then smiled faintly. “Things change,” he said simply, returning his attention to the discussion at hand.Jodie observed the two of them quietly for a moment longer before speaking again. “It’s just strange. You’ve always been so independent, Shu, but with him…” She trailed off, not finishing the thought.Shuichi, unbothered, met her gaze with a small, knowing smile. “Like I said, things change.” He glanced briefly at Conan, who looked back at him with a quiet understanding, before turning his attention back to the investigation. The conversation continued, and soon the room was filled with technical talk and strategy. After a while, the agents stood to leave. “We’ll stay in touch,” Jodie said, her voice warm. “Take care of yourselves. And Conan-kun, don’t overwork yourself, okay?”Conan gave a small, appreciative smile. “I’ll be fine. You all take care too.”As the agents filed out, Shuichi turned to Conan with a wry grin. “Are we that obvious?”Conan chuckled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. “I don’t know,” he shrug. “Maybe, we are. Everything has changed between us.”Shuichi laughed softly, his voice low and warm. “It’s nice, isn’t it?Conan nodded, his heart light. “Yeah. It’s really nice.”And with that, they went back to their quiet routine, knowing that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
A week passed which had felt longer than Conan had expected. He had been busy with a case, unable to meet with Shuichi and without the familiar presence of Shuichi, the days seemed empty, filled with an unspoken tension that followed him wherever he went. Despite his efforts, the weight in his chest lingered, unresolved. Finally, when he returned to the Kudo mansion, there was a quiet relief in the air, though the unease still clung to him.Shuichi met him at the door. His gaze was sharp, as always, but there was something different today—an unspoken understanding. Without a word, he stepped aside and motioned for Conan to follow him. There was no questioning, no need for explanations. Instead, Shuichi simply led him to his room with a silent assurance that things would be taken care of.Inside the room, Conan stood for a moment, still feeling the residual weight of the week, his shoulders tense. But when Shuichi returned, the soft hum of the house and the quiet rhythm of Shuichi’s presence seemed to ground him. Without needing to be asked, Shuichi moved toward the bathroom, the sound of water filling the air.Conan followed, his steps soft against the polished floor. The familiarity of the space enveloped him, a cocoon of comfort he hadn’t realized he craved. Yet, as he approached the doorway, there was a subtle hum in the air—a quiet, charged anticipation that made his breath hitch.Pushing the door open, the warm, misty air of the bathroom greeted him. The soft hiss of steam spiraling upwards blurred the edges of the room, but his gaze was immediately drawn to Shuichi. He stood there, stark naked, his tall, lean frame bathed in the golden glow of the light above. Every detail seemed etched in sharp relief—the taut lines of his shoulders, the faint scars mapping his torso, the defined musculature of his abdomen tapering down to his hips. His skin glistened faintly with moisture, the heat of the room accentuating the rugged perfection of his form.Shuichi’s posture was relaxed but deliberate, an arm resting casually by his side while the other hovered near the edge of the tub, testing the water with his fingers. His face, calm and composed, carried an air of quiet intensity, as though he were entirely at ease in his vulnerability.Conan froze in the doorway, his heart pounding in his chest. The sight of Shuichi, so unabashedly himself, stole the breath from his lungs. There was no shame, no hesitation in the way Shuichi stood there, his gaze lifting to meet Conan’s with an unspoken sense of trust.“You’re just going to stand there?” Shuichi asked, his voice low and steady, a faint smirk playing on his lips.Conan blinked, his mind scrambling to catch up. “I—uh—wasn’t expecting…” He gestured vaguely, his cheeks heating as his words trailed off.Shuichi chuckled softly, the sound rich and warm, cutting through the lingering haze of steam. “It’s just us, Shinichi. No need to overthink it.”The simplicity of Shuichi’s words, paired with his unwavering composure, settled something in Conan’s chest. He let out a shaky breath, stepping fully into the room. The tension that had gripped him began to melt away, replaced by a strange sense of peace.Shuichi straightened, gesturing toward the tub. “Water’s perfect. You’ll feel better once you’re in.”Conan’s eyes flicked briefly toward the steaming bath, then back to Shuichi, whose gaze held nothing but quiet reassurance. It was their moment—untouched by the outside world—and as Conan stepped closer, he realized he trusted Shuichi completely, in every way that mattered. The older man moved closer, and his hands reached for Conan, undressing him with an ease that felt natural, like this was something they had done countless times before. There were no words exchanged, but in each careful motion, there was an unspoken understanding—an assurance that everything would be okay. When Conan was fully undressed, Shuichi guided him into the warm bath. The heat of the water immediately relaxed his muscles, the tension he had been carrying melting away as he sat. Shuichi settled behind him, the strong, steady presence of the older man pressing gently against Conan’s back. The closeness was reassuring, the kind of comfort that only grew with time and familiarity.Conan let out a slow breath, leaning back into the warmth of the water and Shuichi’s comforting presence. There was no rush, no pressure, just the calming feeling of being close to someone he trusted deeply. Shuichi’s hands, warm and steady, rested lightly on his shoulders, offering an unspoken sense of security. After a moment, Shuichi’s fingers moved gently through Conan’s hair, an almost absentminded motion that sent a wave of calm through him. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes—care and affection conveyed in the simplest of touches.Conan closed his eyes, allowing himself to sink into the moment. In this space, there was no need for words. The bond between them was clear, felt more deeply than anything that could be said aloud. It wasn’t about the things they had been through, or the things they still had to face—it was about this moment, the quiet intimacy that existed between them, simply being in each other’s presence.Shuichi didn’t speak, but Conan could feel the steady beat of his heart, the calm energy radiating from him. There was a sense of home here, something that Conan had longed for without fully realizing it. As the water swirled around them, time seemed to slow, and the world outside faded away. For once, there was only this: the warmth of the bath, the peace between them, and the knowledge that they didn’t need to be anywhere else. The stillness lasted, but eventually, Conan opened his eyes, meeting Shuichi’s gaze in the reflection of the water. Without words, they both understood the comfort they found in each other, a silent promise that no matter what, they would always have each other’s back. The bath had worked its magic, the tension between them slowly dissipating. As the warm water swirled around them, Conan felt himself relax, his earlier unease melting away. The quiet intimacy in the air was thick and comforting, the soft sounds of water splashing as Shuichi’s hands moved gently over his shoulders.Eventually, they stepped out of the bath, their skin flushed from the warmth of the water, steam curling lazily around them. Neither of them moved to dress, their clothes left untouched where they had been discarded. It felt unnecessary, almost intrusive, to disrupt the intimate quiet of the moment with the rustling of fabric.Shuichi grabbed a towel from the nearby rack, shaking off the dampness before draping it gently over Conan’s shoulders. His hands lingered as they pressed lightly against Conan’s back, the heat of his palms contrasting with the cool air of the room. The touch was grounding—steady, unhurried, and deeply reassuring.Conan glanced back, his eyes soft with a quiet gratitude he didn’t voice. Shuichi met his gaze with a faint smile, one that carried unspoken understanding. The silence between them felt natural, a wordless conversation that neither needed nor wanted to disturb.Shuichi ran the towel once through his own hair, ruffling the strands slightly, before tossing it aside. Droplets of water still clung to his skin, catching the faint light in the room and accentuating the lean, powerful lines of his body. Conan’s eyes flicked briefly over him, then away, his cheeks warming slightly as he focused on his own towel.Once they were dry enough, Shuichi extended a hand toward Conan, a small gesture of invitation. Conan hesitated for only a moment before taking it, the larger hand enveloping his own as they left the bathroom together. The coolness of the bedroom air greeted them as they crossed the threshold, their bare feet padding softly against the floor. The bed sat waiting for them, its covers slightly rumpled but inviting. The faint light from outside painted silver streaks across the room, casting gentle shadows that danced with the breeze. Shuichi climbed in first, his movements unhurried as he settled back against the pillows, one arm resting casually behind his head. His other hand patted the space beside him in a silent invitation.Conan followed, crawling onto the bed with a kind of tentative familiarity. He stretched out beside Shuichi, the warmth of their proximity chasing away the lingering chill from the air. The mattress seemed to cradle them both, its softness molding around them like a quiet embrace.Shuichi turned slightly, propping himself on one elbow to face Conan. His expression was calm, his gaze lingering as if committing the moment to memory. “Comfortable?” he asked, his voice low, carrying a softness that seemed to wrap around Conan like a blanket.Conan nodded, his voice barely above a whisper. “Yeah… it feels nice.”Shuichi reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from Conan’s forehead. His touch was light, almost reverent, as though he didn’t want to disturb the tranquility that had settled between them. Conan closed his eyes briefly, leaning into the touch before letting his head rest against the pillow. For a moment, the world outside seemed to fade away. The only things that existed were the quiet rhythm of their breaths, the warmth they shared, and the profound understanding that this was their moment—private, unspoken, and entirely their own.Shuichi opened his arms, and without hesitation, Conan nestled into them, his back against Shuichi’s chest. The older man wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close in a silent embrace. Conan could feel the steady, rhythmic beat of Shuichi’s heart, and in that moment, it became a comforting lullaby that soothed his restless mind. As they settled, Shuichi’s thumb brushed over Conan’s hand, the soft, repetitive motion calming. His other hand traced small circles on Conan’s arm, reinforcing the sense of quiet intimacy. The closeness was more than physical—it was a bond that had grown between them, something unspoken but deeply felt. Conan allowed himself to relax into Shuichi’s arms, the security of the moment wrapping around him like a blanket. He didn’t need to think about anything. There was no investigation to worry about, no cases to solve, just the quiet peace of being here with Shuichi.Shuichi’s arms held him firmly, his warmth enveloping Conan. They lay there, spooned together, with Conan feeling small in the shelter of Shuichi’s embrace. The subtle rise and fall of Shuichi’s chest beneath him became a steady rhythm, a gentle reminder that he wasn’t alone—that, no matter what, Shuichi would always be there for him.In the quiet of the room, with the faintest sounds of the world outside, they both drifted off into sleep. There was no need for words—just the simple peace of being in each other’s presence, wrapped in the security of shared warmth. And as they slept, the connection between them deepened, a bond that transcended anything they had experienced before.Conan’s breathing slowed, and in Shuichi’s arms, he found a peace he hadn’t realized he was missing.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The Next Morning
The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Shuichi was already awake, his gaze soft as he watched Conan sleeping beside him. The boy’s breathing was even, his small form curled against Shuichi’s chest.Shuichi’s fingers moved in slow, lazy circles over Conan’s arm, an absentminded gesture of comfort and connection. The faintest smile tugged at his lips as Conan shifted slightly in his sleep, unconsciously seeking the warmth of his embrace.Moments later, Conan’s eyes fluttered open. He blinked a few times, adjusting to the morning light, and then glanced up at Shuichi. The older man’s faint smile deepened, and without a word, he leaned down to press a gentle kiss to Conan’s forehead.“Good morning,” Shuichi murmured, his voice still soft with the quiet of the early hour.Conan let out a low hum, his face half-buried against Shuichi. “Morning...”They stayed like that for a few more moments, the silence between them comfortable. Finally, Conan tilted his head to look up again, his expression tinged with curiosity. “You’ve been awake for a while, haven’t you?”Shuichi chuckled, the sound low and warm. “Long enough to admire how peaceful you look when you’re not frowning at crime scenes.”Conan made a small sound of protest, but his cheeks tinted slightly. “I don’t frown that much.”“You do,” Shuichi teased, brushing his thumb lightly over Conan’s cheek. “But it’s endearing. I was just thinking how rare it is to see you this relaxed.”Conan huffed but didn’t pull away, though there was a flicker of vulnerability in his eyes. “Last night helped. I guess I don’t get to... feel safe like that often.”Shuichi’s hand stilled for a moment, then resumed its gentle movements. “You don’t have to say anything,” he said quietly. “But I’m glad you let me be here for you.”Conan nodded, his gaze dropping. “I... I’m glad too.” He hesitated before continuing, his voice softer. “Sometimes I wish—wish I could feel all of this more. Be more.”Shuichi’s brows furrowed slightly in understanding. “You mean if you were Shinichi again?”Conan’s eyes flickered up to meet his, and he gave a small nod. “It’s not fair, being stuck like this. I want to... to be myself, fully, with you. And I hate that I can’t.”Shuichi’s expression was unreadable for a moment, but his hand moved to cup Conan’s face gently. “I understand. And I’ll wait. However long it takes, I’ll be here.”Conan’s chest tightened at the sincerity in Shuichi’s voice, and he swallowed hard, nodding. “Thanks.”The tender moment lingered before Shuichi broke it with a playful smirk. “That doesn’t mean I won’t tease you while I have the chance, though. You make a surprisingly cute kid, you know.”Conan groaned, pressing his face back against Shuichi’s chest to hide his embarrassment. “Don’t start.”Shuichi chuckled again, the vibration soothing against Conan. “Alright, alright. Let’s get moving before the day completely gets away from us.”They rose from the bed slowly, the intimacy of the morning still lingering between them. As they dressed, Shuichi kept stealing glances at Conan, his teasing smirk ever-present. Conan, for his part, tried not to let the wistful ache in his chest show, even as he felt the comfort of Shuichi’s steady presence beside him.As they moved about the room, gathering their clothes and shaking off the remnants of sleep, Shuichi couldn’t resist the playful glint in his eye. He stood by the dresser, pulling on his shirt, and caught Conan sneaking a glance his way.“You know,” Shuichi said, his voice light with teasing, “if I didn’t know better, I’d think you liked what you see.”Conan froze mid-motion, a sock in his hand, and shot Shuichi an exasperated look. “Seriously?”“What?” Shuichi smirked, shrugging innocently. “You’re the one staring.”“I was not,” Conan muttered, turning his back to Shuichi and quickly pulling on his own shirt.Shuichi chuckled, taking a step closer. “It’s alright, you know. You can admit it. I wouldn’t hold it against you.”Conan sighed, clearly trying to ignore the teasing, but his hands stilled as he adjusted his collar. Without turning around, he said, his voice quiet but intense, “You don’t get it.”Shuichi blinked, his teasing demeanour fading. “What don’t I get?”Conan turned to face him, his small hands clenched at his sides, his eyes burning with emotion that belied his current form. “It’s not just about liking what I see, Shuichi-san. It’s about wanting to be... me. To be whole. To be able to look you in the eye as Shinichi and tell you that I’m yours, completely.”Shuichi’s breath caught, and for a moment, he was silent, the weight of Conan’s words settling between them. “I hate this,” Conan continued, his voice trembling slightly. “This body, this stupid situation... It feels like it’s keeping me from you, from everything I want to be. I want to be with you, fully, not like this. And it kills me that I can’t.”Shuichi stepped forward, closing the distance between them. He knelt down so he was eye-level with Conan, his hands resting gently on the boy’s shoulders. “Conan... Shinichi... you’re more than just your body. Do you understand that? You’re already fully mine. Every part of you.”Conan’s lips parted as if to argue, but Shuichi’s steady gaze stopped him.“I won’t deny that I want to see you as Shinichi again,” Shuichi admitted softly. “But that doesn’t mean what we have now isn’t real. You’re everything to me, no matter what form you’re in.”Conan’s eyes shimmered, and he swallowed hard. “I just... I want to be enough.”Shuichi leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to Conan’s forehead, his voice firm but tender. “You are. You always have been.”The room fell into a comfortable silence, the air between them charged with unspoken emotion. Finally, Shuichi stood, ruffling Conan’s hair lightly to ease the tension. “Now, come on. We’ve got a day to face.”Conan nodded, his chest feeling lighter, even as the ache of longing remained. As they left the room, he couldn’t help but glance up at Shuichi, a small, determined smile playing on his lips. He didn’t have all the answers yet, but one thing was clear: he wouldn’t stop fighting to reclaim his life and to stand beside Shuichi as his true self.Breakfast passed in relative silence, save for the soft clink of utensils and the occasional shared glance. It wasn’t awkward—far from it. The quiet was comforting, like the lull after a storm, a chance to gather thoughts and settle emotions. Shuichi kept stealing glances at Conan, the boy’s sharp eyes scanning the newspaper in front of him, his smaller hands occasionally reaching for his cup of coffee.Shuichi felt his chest tighten. How was it possible to feel so much for someone who seemed so untouchable at times? The boy before him was brilliant, brave, and more mature than anyone his age—or even most adults Shuichi had known. But then there were moments, like this morning, when Shinichi let his guard down, revealing just how much he carried beneath the surface. You’ve been holding all of this in for so long, Shuichi thought, watching Conan’s brow furrow in thought. And yet, you still find the strength to keep going. How do you do it, Shinichi? His gaze softened as he remembered the confession from earlier. The words had cut through him, sharp and raw, leaving no room for anything but honesty. Shinichi hadn’t just admitted his feelings—he’d bared his soul. And Shuichi had felt his own resolve deepen in response. You want to give me everything, but don’t you see? You already have.Shuichi took another sip of his coffee, letting the warmth of the drink settle him. His mind drifted back to the way Conan had looked at him, eyes brimming with longing and frustration. The intensity of it had been overwhelming, a reminder of just how much this boy—no, this young man—trusted him, loved him.I want to give you everything too, Shuichi thought, his hand tightening slightly around the mug. But not like this. Not when I know you deserve more.He set the mug down, his eyes lingering on Conan’s profile. The frustration Shinichi carried wasn’t something Shuichi could fix, no matter how much he wanted to. And yet, the very fact that Shinichi kept coming back to him, despite the barriers between them, filled Shuichi with an indescribable sense of gratitude and determination. I’ve never loved anyone like this before, Shuichi admitted to himself, the thought both exhilarating and terrifying. And I never will again. But I can’t—I won’t—let this love be a burden for you. You have enough of those already.Shuichi’s lips quirked into a faint smile as he watched Conan reach for another piece of toast, his movements deliberate and precise. The sight was so ordinary, so simple, and yet it filled Shuichi with a quiet sense of peace. When the time comes, I’ll give you everything I have. But until then, I’ll wait. However long it takes, I’ll wait.Conan glanced up then, catching Shuichi’s gaze. His expression was curious, a little wary. “What?” he asked, his voice carrying a touch of suspicion.Shuichi shook his head, a small smile playing at his lips. “Nothing. Just thinking.”Conan raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further, returning to his newspaper with a shrug.Shuichi leaned back in his chair, his smile lingering. He couldn’t put it into words—not yet—but in his heart, he knew: this wasn’t just love. It was something deeper, something unshakable. And for Shinichi, he’d endure any wait, any frustration, just to see that love returned when the time was finally right. As they move to the study after, Conan’s words hung in the air, Shuichi found himself unable to look away. The vulnerability in Conan’s voice, the rawness of his confession—it struck a chord deep within him. For all of Shuichi’s calm composure, this moment unravelled him in ways he hadn’t anticipated. He knelt again, his hands gently cupping Conan’s face. “Do you know what you’ve just done to me?” Shuichi whispered, his voice trembling just enough to betray his emotions. “Hearing you say those things... It’s like you reached into my chest and wrapped your hand around my heart. I already loved you, Shinichi, but this—this makes me love you even more.”Conan’s breath hitched; his eyes wide as he searched Shuichi’s expression for any trace of doubt. There was none. Only a fierce, unwavering sincerity that made Conan’s chest tighten.“I wish I could give you more,” Conan murmured, his voice barely audible.Shuichi shook his head, his thumbs brushing away the faint wetness at the corners of Conan’s eyes. “Don’t say that. You’re giving me everything already. And I won’t—I can’t—let you feel like you’re not enough.”Conan swallowed hard, his small hands curling into fists at his sides. “But I want to give you more. I want to touch you, hold you, kiss you—really kiss you. I want to be yours in every way that matters.”The admission was raw, and it struck Shuichi with the weight of its honesty. He closed his eyes for a moment, steadying himself before meeting Conan’s gaze again. “I know,” he said softly. “And I want that too—more than I can put into words. But not like this.”Conan flinched, and Shuichi immediately pulled him closer, wrapping his arms around the smaller frame. “Not because I don’t want you, Shinichi,” Shuichi murmured into his hair. “But because you deserve to feel whole when it happens. You deserve to have everything—to be everything you are meant to be. And I’ll wait. However long it takes, I’ll wait.”Conan buried his face against Shuichi’s chest, his small fists clutching at the fabric of Shuichi’s shirt. The frustration that burned within him felt unbearable at times, but Shuichi’s words were like a balm, soothing the edges of his anger and longing.“I hate that I’m like this,” Conan confessed, his voice muffled against Shuichi. “But I hate the thought of being without you even more. That’s why I keep coming back to you, no matter how hard it feels.”Shuichi’s arms tightened around him, his lips brushing the crown of Conan’s head. “And I’ll always be here, waiting for you to come back. Always.”The intensity of the moment lingered as they stayed locked in the embrace, neither willing to let go. Shuichi’s mind churned with thoughts of how much he admired Conan’s strength, how deeply he loved this boy who carried so much more than anyone should have to. And yet, he couldn’t deny the ache in his chest when he thought about how much Conan yearned for something they couldn’t have—yet. When they finally pulled apart, their gazes met, and the bond between them felt even stronger, as if they had crossed an invisible line and emerged closer on the other side.As they continued, Shuichi tried to lighten the mood, though his own heart was still heavy with emotion. “You know,” he said with a faint smirk, “for someone who’s usually so composed, you’re pretty good at unravelling me.”Conan rolled his eyes, though a faint blush dusted his cheeks. “Don’t start.”Shuichi’s smirk softened into a fond smile as he reached out, his fingers brushing against Conan’s cheek. “No teasing, then. Just this: I’m proud of you, Shinichi. For everything you are. And for everything you will be.”The words hung between them, carrying the weight of all the love, respect, and admiration Shuichi felt. And though Conan’s frustration remained, so did the warmth of Shuichi’s unwavering support. For now, that would have to be enough.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Just like that, a month flew by. Conan and Shuichi growing even closer by the day, basking in the love they share for each other. One evening the air is crisp, and the soft glow of the lights in the Kudo Mansion cast a warm, welcoming ambiance. It’s a rare peaceful moment, and Shuichi—still savouring the time spent with Conan—sits in the living room, a soft smile tugging at his lips as he watches Conan move about. The atmosphere between them is comfortable, natural, almost as though they’re living in their own little world. The growing closeness between them over the past month has made these moments precious, and neither is willing to let go of the fleeting peace.Shuichi looks up from his book, eyes meeting Conan's as the younger detective enters the room. But something is different. Conan’s usually composed expression is replaced by one of tight tension. His eyes dart around the room, and his posture is stiff.Shuichi (putting the book down, his voice low and careful): "Shinichi... What's wrong?"Conan freezes at the sound of his name, as though he’s been snapped from a trance. He exhales slowly, as if to calm himself, but the unease is still there. The smile he forces doesn’t quite reach his eyes.Conan (trying to sound casual, but his voice betrays him): "It’s nothing. I... I just need to talk to you."Shuichi's instincts kick in immediately. He knows Conan better than anyone, and right now, he can feel the weight in the air—the type of tension that isn’t easily dismissed. Conan looks exhausted, but his mind is clearly working overtime.Shuichi (rising from his seat, a touch of concern creeping into his voice): "What happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost."Conan hesitates for a moment, taking a deep breath as if weighing his next words carefully. Finally, his expression hardens.Conan: "I saw them... Gin and Vodka."The words hang in the air, heavy and sharp, and for a brief moment, the world feels like it’s standing still. Shuichi’s blood runs cold, his heart pounding in his chest. He instantly tenses, his body going rigid as the implications hit him.Shuichi (voice trembling, unable to hide his panic): "Where? What do you mean, you saw them? Are you... Are you sure they saw you?"Conan takes a step forward, his expression softening just slightly as he notices Shuichi’s reaction. He reaches out to grab his hand, squeezing it reassuringly.Conan: "I’m fine. I’m safe. They didn’t see me, and I didn’t give myself away. I’m sure of it. But… they were in the park. I was just passing by, and they were there, talking. Something's off. They’re planning something."Shuichi’s grip tightens on Conan’s hand, his mind racing, but his focus is entirely on the younger detective standing in front of him. His chest tightens with fear as images of the Black Organization flood his mind—images of Gin’s cold smile, Vodka’s icy demeanour.Shuichi (his voice a harsh whisper): "You’re sure you weren’t followed? Conan, we can’t risk it. If they know you’re alive—"Conan (gently but firmly, cutting him off): “I’m sure, Shuichi-san. They didn’t spot me. We’re safe, I promise. But this… it’s bigger than just me. They’re planning something, and I need to know what. But first…”Conan stepped closer, his small frame radiating a determination that seemed to take Shuichi by surprise. Without hesitation, he reached up, tugging Shuichi gently downward. Shuichi went willingly, his brows furrowed in confusion as he found himself kneeling on one knee, bringing them eye level.Conan moved in even closer, standing between Shuichi’s bent knees. His hand rose, small yet steady, and pressed softly against Shuichi’s cheek. The warmth of Conan’s palm against his skin made Shuichi pause, his breath hitching as he searched the boy’s steady gaze. There was something grounding in the gesture—a quiet reassurance that cut through the chaos swirling in his mind.Conan’s voice softened. “Shuichi…”Before Shuichi could respond, Conan leaned forward. His lips brushed against Shuichi’s cheek in a kiss—gentle, warm, and deliberate. The touch lingered, unhurried, carrying a silent promise of safety and unity. It wasn’t rushed, nor was it tentative. It was an act of trust, a quiet reminder that they were in this together.Shuichi froze for a moment, his sharp mind briefly overwhelmed by the unexpected intimacy of the gesture. His pulse quickened, the warmth of Conan’s touch spreading like a balm over his fraying nerves. The kiss wasn’t just a reassurance—it was an anchor, pulling him back from the spiraling edge of panic.Conan pulled back slightly, his hand still resting against Shuichi’s cheek. His eyes held a depth of emotion far beyond his years. “We’re fine. I’m fine,” he said firmly, his voice steady. “Just… focus with me. We’ll figure this out.”The words hung in the air, as powerful as the kiss that had preceded them. Shuichi exhaled slowly, the tightness in his chest easing as he felt himself grounding in the presence of the boy in front of him. The weight of the situation wasn’t diminished, but it felt… manageable. The quiet determination in Conan’s eyes reminded him that they’d faced impossible odds before—and survived. The two of them lingered in the moment, neither breaking the contact. Shuichi’s hand, as if on instinct, came up to rest lightly over Conan’s, their fingers brushing. The faintest smile touched Shuichi’s lips, a rare softness breaking through his typically stoic demeanor.Shuichi (voice low, almost reverent): “Alright. Together.”Conan nodded, the tension in his shoulders easing. “Together.”Whatever lay ahead—whatever plans their enemies had in motion—they would face it side by side. The bond between them, forged in trust and tempered by shared danger, was their greatest strength.Shuichi pulls back slightly, meeting Conan’s eyes with a determined look.Shuichi: "Alright. We need to act fast. But we can’t be hasty. We’ll contact the others. Maybe they’ve heard something. We need all the intel we can get."Conan nods, his gaze steady now, as if ready to take on the world once again. The calm determination in his eyes mirrors Shuichi's, and for a moment, the terrifying reality of their situation is tempered by their resolve.Conan: "I’ll make the calls. You keep an eye on the situation here. If we can track their movements, we might figure out what they’re planning."Shuichi pulls out his phone, already dialling, the sharp edge of his focus returning. But before he can make the call, he stops and looks at Conan one more time. His voice is soft, vulnerable, something that betrays his concern.Shuichi: "Shinichi... please. Be careful. I can’t lose you."Conan’s lips curve into a small, reassuring smile.Conan: "You won’t lose me. I’ll be careful. We’ll be careful."Shuichi nods, unable to shake the fear gnawing at him, but knowing that the only way forward is together. They have no choice but to face the Black Organization head-on.The mansion is quiet, the only sound being the soft ticking of the clock on the wall. Shuichi and Conan sit across from each other at the kitchen table, papers scattered in front of them. The only light in the room comes from a lamp overhead, casting long shadows across their tense faces. The Black Organization has been moving, and despite their best efforts, every lead they’ve followed has only brought them back to one place: a warehouse in Beika.Conan’s eyes are narrowed, frustration and confusion evident in his gaze. He taps his fingers lightly on the table, trying to piece together the mystery. Shuichi, on the other hand, leans back in his chair, his hands folded together in front of him as his mind works through the possibilities.Shuichi (breaking the silence): “I don’t get it. Why this warehouse? There’s nothing there. It’s an old, abandoned facility. Why would they keep going there? They could’ve used any other location.”Conan (running a hand through his hair): “I don’t know. It doesn’t make sense. But every time we check, they’re there. Almost like they’re looking for something.”A heavy silence falls over them again. The more they think about it, the more the warehouse seems to be a dead end. Conan’s mind races, but nothing clicks. He stands up suddenly, pacing in frustration.Conan: “I need to talk to Haibara. Maybe she knows something about it.”Shuichi watches as Conan grabs his phone, dialling quickly. He can tell the young detective is desperate for any new lead.Shuichi (quietly, almost to himself): “Something’s off about all of this… I just don’t understand.”Conan waits for a moment as the phone rings. Finally, a familiar voice picks up on the other end.Haibara (calm but curious): “What is it?”Conan (rubbing his forehead): “I need to ask you about a warehouse in Beika. It’s been visited by the Black Organization multiple times recently. I don’t know why they’re going there, but there’s nothing there. Do you know anything about it?”There’s a slight pause on the other end, the faint sound of someone thinking before Haibara responds.Haibara (sounding more serious now): “The warehouse… That’s where the lab used to be. The one where APTX 4869 was developed.”Conan’s heart skips a beat at the revelation. He exchanges a quick glance with Shuichi, who has been silently listening, and the weight of Haibara’s words hits both of them at once.Conan: “Wait… That’s where it was? The lab where they made APTX?”Haibara (with a bitter edge to her voice): “Yes. The same place. The Black Organization used that warehouse as a front for their experiments. It’s where everything started. If they’re going back there, it means they’re looking for something. Something important.”Conan’s eyes widen, the realization hitting him like a wave. Shuichi’s face hardens as he processes the information. The warehouse wasn’t just a place—it was ground zero for the Black Organization’s experiments, and they were going back. The question now was why.Conan (to Shuichi, as he lowers the phone): “They’re looking for something. It’s the lab… the place where it all started. They can’t be there by accident.”Shuichi (nodding, his voice tense): “This just got a whole lot more dangerous. If they’re searching the lab, it’s possible they’re trying to finish what they started. They could be looking for research, samples... or something else related to the APTX project.”Conan’s mind is already spinning with possibilities. They’ve come this far, but now they face a bigger challenge: finding out what the Black Organization is truly after, without drawing attention to themselves.Conan (quietly): “We need to go there. We have to find out what they’re doing. But if we go, we’re on their radar. We can’t risk being seen.”Shuichi (gritting his teeth, his voice low): “We can’t just sit back and do nothing. But you’re right. If we’re not careful, we’ll walk straight into their trap.”The two of them exchange a look. The danger of the situation is palpable, but the urgency is even greater. The Black Organization’s next move could be catastrophic, and they need to know what’s going on before it’s too late.Shuichi (leaning forward, his expression serious): “We need to come up with a plan. A stealth operation. We’ll need to get in and out without being detected. But the question is… how do we do that?”Conan’s eyes flicker with determination. He thinks back to all the times they’ve outsmarted the Black Organization before, all the times they’ve managed to escape danger by relying on their wits and the information they’ve gathered. This wouldn’t be any different.Conan (after a pause): “We’ll have to blend in. We can’t go in as ourselves. We’ll need disguises. And we’ll have to get close without alerting anyone. If we make the wrong move… we’re done.”Shuichi nods, his jaw set in a firm line. He knows Conan’s right. Every decision they make now could be the difference between life and death.Shuichi: “We’ll need a distraction. Something that keeps the Black Organization’s attention elsewhere while we get inside.”Conan nods, already thinking ahead. He knows it won’t be easy, but this is their only shot at uncovering what the Black Organization is truly after.Conan: “I’ll talk to the others. We need to gather as much intel as we can—figure out what’s going on in that warehouse. And we need to act fast.”Shuichi grips his phone tightly, already thinking of the people they can rely on for help. They’ve been in tight spots before, but this is different. The Black Organization is getting closer, and time is running out.Shuichi (quietly): “We’re going to need more than luck to pull this off.”Conan: “We’ll make our own luck. Together.”And with that, both detectives set their minds to work, readying themselves for the next dangerous move in this ever-tightening game. The Black Organization was on the move—and so were they.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
As Conan and Shuichi approached the weather-beaten warehouse, the wind howled and the rain lashed against their car windows. The storm raged outside, a perfect cover for their mission. They had to remain under the radar—too many eyes were on them, and getting noticed now could compromise everything.Conan kept his eyes fixed on the road, squinting through the thick sheets of rain. Beside him, Shuichi shifted uncomfortably in the passenger seat, his expression masked by the shadows of the storm. They needed to appear as a harmless, average father and son—lost, cold, and seeking refuge. It wasn’t a perfect story, but it would do.The moment they reached the warehouse, they parked just out of sight of the main entrance, turning off the engine as if their vehicle had suddenly given out. The windshield wipers ceased their rhythmic dance, and the rain pounded even harder, making the moment feel surreal."We’re stranded, huh?" Conan muttered under his breath. He glanced at the dark, imposing warehouse, then at the small box of tools in the backseat, which had been prepared just for this occasion.Shuichi nodded silently. "Let’s make this quick, Conan.”With practiced ease, they climbed out of the car, feigning frustration as Conan slammed the door behind him. Their movements were slow, exaggerated—like people trying to escape the cold rather than investigators on a mission. The warehouse loomed before them like an abandoned giant, its large metal door half-open. Conan’s eyes darted around to make sure no one was watching. "Seems safe," he muttered, playing his part. "Let’s get inside. At least it'll be warm."Shuichi followed his lead. "Alright, we’ll say we were looking for shelter from the storm. Hopefully no one will mind."Inside, the place was cold and musty, with a faint smell of mildew and oil lingering in the air. The dim light that filtered through the cracked windows gave the space an eerie, almost abandoned feel. Rows of old crates, scattered papers, and empty shelves filled the room. But for the two of them, it was a treasure trove of possibilities."Just act like we're trying to find something to stay warm," Shuichi whispered, keeping an eye out for any security cameras or unexpected movements.Conan nodded, his eyes already scanning the room. The role they had to play was clear, but there was more at stake than staying out of sight. He was looking for anything—documents, blueprints, anything that could provide insight into the development of APTX. Something, anything, that might explain the origins of the poison, or even a link to the shadowy organization behind it.They moved cautiously, pretending to poke around for firewood or spare blankets. Conan had spotted a pile of old papers in the corner, half-buried under crates. He moved toward it while Shuichi kept an eye on the door. Conan shuffled through the stack, flipping through the pages slowly, pretending to search for something useful. And then he found it—a series of old, faded files marked with the word "APT-X". His heart skipped a beat. He immediately slid the papers into his jacket, his mind racing with questions. How had they gotten here? Were they old records from the development of the poison? He couldn't let this slip away.Shuichi, sensing something had shifted, looked at Conan. "Anything?"Conan gave a subtle nod, his eyes narrowing. "This is it. We’ve found something."As Conan shuffled through the papers, his fingers brushing over the faded ink, he realized just how dangerous it was to take anything tangible with him. If the documents were discovered missing, it could be traced back to them. He needed a way to gather the information without alerting anyone. His eyes darted around, and then he had an idea. Pulling out his phone, he activated the camera and began snapping discreet photos of the documents. His fingers moved quickly, capturing the key pages. The faint flash of the camera was concealed by the storm’s natural light—dim, sporadic, and flickering as the rain lashed against the windows. No one would be able to tell that he had taken any photos unless they went through the documents with a fine-tooth comb.He carefully zoomed in on the pages, trying to capture every detail—the names, the chemical formulas, the vague references to “APT-X” scattered across the pages, and some names that might be important. His heart raced with the pressure, but his face remained the same—calm, composed, just a boy trying to stay warm.Shuichi, sensing that the moment had arrived to move on, stepped closer. “How much longer?” he whispered, his voice low but urgent.“Just a little more,” Conan murmured, snapping the last photo of a strange-looking diagram that might have been a blueprint for something related to the APT-X poison. Once done, he slipped the phone back into his jacket pocket, making sure everything looked undisturbed. But as Conan moved to stand, his eyes caught something odd—another pile of papers, this one different from the rest. There were no markings on the cover. They seemed to be completely blank. A slight frown crossed Conan’s face as he sifted through the stack. "What are these? Blank pages?"Shuichi looked over his shoulder. "Don't touch it unless, you're sure. It could be a trap or—"Conan, however, was already reaching for the blank papers. His mind was working quickly. "We’re not leaving with nothing. If there’s nothing useful here, we can at least use them."Shuichi raised an eyebrow but said nothing, recognizing the quick thinking of his young partner.Without another word, Conan gathered a handful of the blank papers. His eyes glanced around the room, realizing that staying here too long wasn’t a good idea—especially not with the storm still battering the warehouse. The temperature was dropping, and they needed a reason to linger for a while longer. There was no firewood, no obvious way to keep warm. But the blank papers—they could be useful in a different way.He tossed the papers together, crumbling them into a small pile. “It’s freezing,” Conan muttered, looking at Shuichi. “We need some heat, and we can’t afford to go back outside yet.”Shuichi raised an eyebrow at the idea of burning the papers. "You’re going to burn them?"“It’s just paper. We need it more than the documents right now," Conan said, his voice firm. He started carefully stacking the papers into a small pile in the corner of the room, under the shelter of some crates and debris that could protect the fire from the wind outside. "We’ll make it look like we’re just trying to stay warm."Shuichi watched him carefully, his face unreadable, but his mind was calculating. They needed to remain undetected. But Conan’s plan made sense. If they stayed here long enough to let the storm pass, they could remain unnoticed. And maybe, just maybe, the small fire would be their best disguise.Conan pulled a small lighter from his pocket—one that he had kept for emergencies—and flicked it to life. The flame crackled, then caught the first paper. The fire was small at first, struggling against the wet conditions, but it grew as the papers burned. Soon enough, the warmth began to spread, chasing away the bitter chill from their bodies.“Keep the fire low,” Shuichi cautioned, watching the smoke rise in tiny tendrils. He leaned against a crate nearby, keeping his eyes on the door as if expecting someone to come rushing in. The storm outside continued its relentless assault, but the cold inside the warehouse was being slowly pushed back by the flickering flames."Just enough to stay warm for a bit longer," Conan replied, though his mind was already focused on what they’d uncovered. The photos on his phone might hold the key to unraveling the mystery of APT-X, and this fire—it was their cover. The two of them settled down near the small flame, pretending to be a simple father and son trying to escape the storm. Conan watched the fire carefully, his thoughts racing through the implications of the documents he had photographed.Shuichi, however, wasn’t content to sit idle. He glanced over the warehouse again, scanning the rows of shelves and crates for anything else out of place. The silence between them stretched, punctuated only by the crackle of the fire.As Conan leaned back against the cold concrete wall, still holding his phone, he glanced over at Shuichi. "Once the weather clears up, we’re leaving. But we can’t forget this place. We’ll need to come back and dig deeper."Shuichi’s eyes softened, and he gave a subtle nod. "Agreed. But for now, we need to stay out of sight. Let's wait for the storm to clear, and then we’ll make our next move."The two settled into an uneasy calm, each absorbed in their own thoughts. The fire flickered, small but persistent, a perfect distraction for anyone who might come looking for them. For the moment, they were safe—but they both knew this was only the beginning of something much larger. They had what they came for. Now, it was time to get out of there—and keep moving forward, one step closer to uncovering the truth behind APTX.The storm had raged on for hours, but eventually, as the rain began to lighten and the wind calmed, a sense of stillness settled over the warehouse. Conan and Shuichi shared a glance, their silent agreement clear. The time had come to leave. They carefully extinguished the small fire, making sure the embers were smothered enough to avoid attracting attention. The smoke had dissipated, leaving the warehouse smelling faintly of burned paper, but the lingering warmth was enough to make the bitter cold of the outside world feel all the more unwelcoming.Conan gave one last sweep of the room before they exited, pulling the heavy door shut behind them. The weather had turned a little milder, but the storm’s remnants still lingered in the air, a reminder of the tension they’d just escaped.Back at the car, they feigned fixing the engine, acting as if the breakdown had been the cause of their delay. Their movements were slow, deliberate, as they pretended to tinker with the vehicle, hoping the ruse would hold long enough for them to leave unnoticed. With the weather now on their side, it wasn’t long before the car roared to life. The silence between them was heavy, the weight of their discoveries still pressing down.As they drove away from the warehouse, the lights of the familiar Kudo mansion slowly came into view, rising from the misty darkness like a safe haven, their haven. The road felt long, yet the closer they got, the more the tension in their bodies began to dissolve. The heaviness of their mission, the stress of staying undetected, and the dangerous nature of what they were uncovering—it all seemed to melt away with each mile that brought them home. When they finally pulled into the driveway, the car’s tires crunching softly against the gravel, they both exhaled a long breath. But it wasn’t the exhaustion from the night’s events that weighed on them; it was the emotional release they’d been holding back. They had made it through the storm. Literally and figuratively.Shuichi turned off the engine, and for a moment, neither of them moved. They just sat there in the dark, the car’s interior bathed in soft, warm light. They didn’t speak—there was no need for words. The tension was still palpable between them, clinging to the air like the storm that had just passed. But it was different now. It was a quiet release, an unspoken understanding.Without a word, Conan unclipped his seatbelt and leaned into Shuichi, his head resting against his shoulder. The storm was over, and now the only thing that mattered was the comfort of being in each other’s presence.Shuichi’s hand instinctively moved to Conan’s back, pulling him closer. His breath hitched slightly as Conan’s warmth enveloped him, the familiar scent of his hair grounding him in this fleeting moment of peace. He buried his face into Conan’s neck, his arms tightening around him, as if the embrace could erase all the danger, the uncertainty, and the pressure of the past hours. There was something so raw in that moment—a quiet, intimate connection that transcended the need for words. They were both still caught up in the aftermath of everything—the tension, the danger—but here, in each other’s arms, they could let it all go. The world outside didn’t matter. All that mattered was this fleeting, intimate moment where time seemed to stop.Conan, too, felt the weight of the day begin to lift. He could feel the familiar comfort of Shuichi’s arms around him, the sense of protection and safety that always came with his presence. He nuzzled closer, letting his body relax as he pressed his face deeper into Shuichi’s shoulder. The scent of rain and Shuichi’s cologne mixed together, grounding him further into the moment. He wanted to stay here, to forget everything else, just for a little longer.Shuichi's voice, low and tender, broke the silence between them. "We're safe now."Conan simply nodded, the words escaping him, swallowed by the comfort of their embrace. The tension that had been so suffocating moments before faded completely, leaving only the warmth of their connection, an unspoken bond that needed no explanation. In that brief moment of peace, they both knew something had changed. Their mission wasn’t over. But for now, they could let go. And, just for a while, they could pretend that everything outside the walls of the Kudo mansion—the danger, the mystery, the threat—didn’t exist. As they pulled away from each other just slightly, their eyes met. The vulnerability in each of their gazes spoke volumes.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The atmosphere at the Kudo mansion had settled into a quiet stillness as Conan and Shuichi returned. The storm outside had finally dissipated, leaving only a heavy calm in its wake. However, inside the mansion, the weight of their recent discovery still hung thick in the air. Both of them were careful to keep their presence low, blending into the quiet of the house as if nothing had changed. They couldn’t afford to be noticed—especially not now, when they were on the verge of something monumental. The first order of business was to go over the pictures Conan had taken. They retreated to a small study room in the mansion, away from prying eyes. Shuichi closed the door behind them with a quiet click, the soft hum of the house filling the silence. Conan took out his phone and opened the gallery, his thumb scrolling quickly through the images.Shuichi leaned over, his eyes scanning the screen with the same intensity that had marked their every move that night. The diagrams, the notes, the chemical formulas—all of it was a tangled web of mystery. But it was a web that Conan was determined to unravel."Anything stand out?" Shuichi asked, his voice quieter now, almost cautious.Conan’s eyes were focused on the images, but his mind was elsewhere, calculating, considering the next step. “There’s a lot here that doesn’t make sense. Some of the names… I’ve never seen them before. And the formulas... They look similar to the chemical structure of APTX, but there’s something off about them.” His thumb paused on an image, zooming in on a piece of paper. "These diagrams—they could be related to the synthesis process, but I can’t be sure without seeing more."Shuichi remained silent, his gaze flicking from the phone to Conan. It was clear that the young detective was on edge, his focus so sharp it felt like he was ready to dive deeper into this mystery no matter the cost. It was the desperation in Conan’s demeanour that made Shuichi’s thoughts shift, his concern growing.“You’ve been obsessed with this, Shinichi,” Shuichi said, his voice barely above a whisper but laced with a note of sternness. “It’s like you’ve been hunting for answers with nothing else in your mind but that. But you’ve got to be careful. You can’t just charge into something like this without thinking about the consequences.”Conan stiffened at the words, but he didn’t pull away from the conversation. He looked up from the pictures, meeting Shuichi’s gaze. There was no anger in his expression, only the faintest hint of resolve.“I know you’re right," Conan said quietly. "But I’ve come so far. Every step I take, it gets me closer to something. To finding the truth." He hesitated, his voice dropping to a softer tone. "And maybe… maybe I can get my old life back. Not for me, though. But for you.”Shuichi froze, his gaze fixed on Conan, confusion flickering in his eyes. “What do you mean?”Conan bit his lip, trying to find the right words. It wasn’t easy. Not when the weight of everything he had kept hidden for so long was crashing down on him. But he couldn’t stop himself now. The truth had to come out."I’ve been so focused on solving the mystery of APTX because… because I want to get my body back. I want to be myself again." His words were deliberate, each one weighed down by the truth. "My reason behind it is… you."Shuichi was quiet for a moment, his sharp gaze never leaving Conan as if he were weighing every word carefully. Then, it hit him—a deep, understanding realization. The pieces clicked into place in his mind, and the recognition was immediate."You want to be Shinichi again," Shuichi said softly, his voice calm but filled with quiet certainty. It wasn’t a question. It was a truth that they both knew, even if they hadn't fully articulated it before.Conan froze, his breath catching in his throat. The floodgates had opened. He couldn’t stop now.His gaze shifted downward, his eyes darkening as he absorbed the weight of his own words. "Yes. I’ve been thinking about it for so long. And I thought… I thought that if I could just find the answers—if I could just solve the mystery of APTX—I could become myself again." He paused, his voice faltering slightly. Shuichi leaned forward slightly, his expression softening with a mix of concern and realization. And as the words hung in the air, his mind immediately flashed back to a conversation they had weeks ago—one that had felt like a pivotal moment between them. A moment when Conan had let his guard down, speaking a truth that was buried deep in his heart. It was a memory that resurfaced now, and everything fell into place.Conan had looked at him then, his eyes vulnerable, full of longing, and in that moment, Shuichi had understood. It wasn’t just about regaining his body—it was about being whole again. So he could be with Shuichi—completely. Not just physically, but in every sense of the word.“You told me before," Shuichi murmured softly, recalling the conversation, “you wanted to be Shinichi again, not just for your own sake, but because you wanted to be with me. Completely.”The memory hit Conan like a wave. He hadn’t realized how much that conversation had stayed with Shuichi, how deeply it had impacted him. And hearing those words now, from Shuichi’s lips, made his chest tighten with something unnameable—grief, longing, and maybe hope, too.“I know I’m not myself right now," Conan whispered, his voice cracking slightly. "But if I could be Shinichi again... then I could really be yours. In every way. I could stop hiding. I could stop pretending to be someone I’m not."The silence between them grew heavier, the weight of those words pressing down on both of them. Conan’s confession—raw and exposed—hung there, a fragile truth that had taken everything in him to admit.Shuichi sat back, his hand brushing through his hair as he processed the depth of Conan’s words. The vulnerability in Conan’s confession didn’t escape him. But it also sparked a rush of emotions that Shuichi couldn’t fully articulate. For a long moment, he didn’t speak. Instead, he simply watched Conan, his eyes filled with something close to understanding, but also tinged with a touch of sadness."Shinichi," Shuichi said softly, breaking the silence, "I know what you're saying. I know you want to fix this, to get your body back. But... you don’t have to do that. You’ve already given me everything I could ever ask for." His voice was steady but full of something deeper—something more.Conan didn’t respond immediately. He kept his gaze fixed downward, unsure of how to take those words, unsure of what they meant for him. He had spent so long believing that returning to his original body was the key to everything—to being complete. But now, in the quiet of the afternoon, his heart ached with the realization that maybe that wasn’t the only way forward."I know you are holding back for me," Conan said quietly, finally lifting his eyes to meet Shuichi’s. "And I’ve been holding onto this hope that if I could just become Shinichi again... I could fix everything. For you. For both of us."Shuichi shook his head gently, his gaze softening. "You’re already everything I need, Shinichi. You’ve always been everything I need." His words came with a warmth that filled the room, a steady reassurance that calmed the storm inside Conan’s heart, even if just a little. "I never needed you to be anyone else. I never needed you to be Shinichi again to be with me."Conan’s breath hitched; his throat tight. “But I—”Shuichi reached out, placing a hand gently on Conan’s shoulder, silencing him with the touch. "You don’t need to be anyone else for me. You’re perfect just as you are."The weight of those words settled in Conan’s chest, though a part of him struggled to fully accept them. He had spent so long longing for something that had seemed so out of reach—his old life, his old body, the sense of normalcy he’d lost. But now, with Shuichi’s steady presence in front of him, he realized that maybe this—this version of himself—was enough. Maybe he was enough.Shuichi’s fingers tightened slightly, pulling Conan closer in a tender embrace. The moment was intimate, quiet, and so full of unspoken affection.“I’m not going anywhere," Shuichi whispered into his ear, his breath warm against the side of Conan’s neck. "Whatever happens, we’ll figure it out together. You don’t have to face this alone."Conan closed his eyes, allowing the comfort of Shuichi’s arms to envelop him. It wasn’t the solution he had always thought he wanted, but it was something more. It was acceptance. And it was more than he had ever hoped for."Thank you," Conan whispered, his voice shaky. "Thank you for not asking me to be anyone else."Shuichi smiled softly, his hand brushing the back of Conan’s head. “You don’t have to thank me. You’re everything I want, just as you are.”And in that moment, with the afternoon sun casting a warm glow over the room, they both knew that, no matter what happened, they would face it together. As they were. And that was enough. The next day, Conan goes to the Hakase to show Haibara the gathered pictures. He had no intention of involving the Detective Boys or anyone else; this was far too dangerous. The storm had passed, and he had barely managed to get back to the mansion without drawing attention. But now, he needed Haibara’s expertise to make sense of what he had discovered.Conan knocked on Haibara’s door before entering, his heart still pounding with the knowledge of what he’d uncovered. He could already feel the weight of the secret pressing down on him.Haibara glanced up from her desk as he entered. Her expression didn’t change, but her eyes held a knowing look as if she was already anticipating what he’d bring to her.“Did you find something?” Haibara asked, her voice calm but with a hint of something else—concern? Worry?Conan nodded, pulling out his phone and handing it to her. “I got some pictures from the warehouse. I thought you should take a look.”Haibara took the phone from him without a word, immediately swiping through the images with practiced speed. As she went through the photos, her face remained neutral, but Conan could see the flickers of recognition as she paused on certain details—documents, symbols, and other items he hadn’t fully understood.“You were right,” Conan said quietly. “This place… it’s where APTX was developed. I found some documents and a symbol that looks like it’s connected to the organization.”Haibara stopped on one of the pictures, her finger tracing over a faint symbol on the corner of a burned document. She zoomed in, her brow furrowing as she analyzed it.“This symbol...” Haibara murmured. “It’s from the early days of the organization. This warehouse wasn’t just a place for testing APTX. It was central to their operations back when they were developing the drug.”Conan leaned in, watching as she examined the images more closely. "So, this really is the place they were working on it. I thought it was just an abandoned site."Haibara nodded slowly, her eyes scanning the other pictures. “No, this was a key location. And you’ve probably stumbled onto something even bigger than you realize. APTX, as you know, was part of a much larger, more dangerous set of experiments. If you’re seeing records like this, it’s a sign that they were working on a scale much larger than just the drug itself.”She looked up at him, her gaze intense. “You need to understand one thing: the organization will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried. If they find out you’ve been poking around in places like this, they won’t hesitate to act.”Conan swallowed, feeling the weight of her words sink in. “I know. But I have to find out more. This... this isn’t just about APTX anymore. It’s about everything—the organization, the people behind it, and how we can stop them.”Haibara narrowed her eyes, studying him. “And you’re still determined to go after them, even after everything you’ve learned?”Conan met her gaze, his voice steady but with a quiet fire burning in his chest. “I can’t stop now, Haibara. I’ve come too far. I need to know everything about what happened in that warehouse. I need to know what they were really doing.”There was a long pause as Haibara processed his words, her eyes lingering on him for a moment longer than usual. Finally, she exhaled softly, her expression softening just slightly.“Alright. But you’re going to have to be careful. You’ve already taken some risks, and we can’t afford any mistakes.”“I won’t make any,” Conan said, determination in his voice. “But we need to decode these documents. If there’s anything in them, we have to find it.”Haibara nodded, her fingers moving expertly over the photos on the phone. "I’ll help you with that. We’ll go through them, one by one, and see what we can decipher. But you need to understand, this won’t be easy. There could be traps set within these files—things the organization left intentionally to throw people off the scent."“I’m ready,” Conan replied, his resolve hardening. He wasn’t just doing this for himself anymore. It was about more than getting his body back. It was about putting an end to the organization’s twisted experiments.Haibara gave him a curt nod before turning her attention back to the photos. "Let’s get to work, then."As they began to examine the pictures more closely, the quiet hum of their shared mission filled the room. Each photo, each detail that Haibara pointed out, brought them closer to the truth—but with it, the danger grew. They both knew that what they were diving into could lead to more than just answers—it could lead them straight into the heart of the organization itself. And Conan was more determined than ever to find out what lay hidden there.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Later that evening, Conan sat in the Kudo mansion’s study, the faint glow of the laptop screen illuminating his face. He stared at the fragmented data Haibara had managed to decode so far. The pieces were still incomplete, but even the small glimpses they had uncovered were enough to chill him. There were mentions of subjects, phases, and something referred to as "Genesis Protocol." The implications were dark, and Conan knew he needed help.A quiet knock on the door drew his attention, and moments later, Shuichi stepped in, his tall frame silhouetted against the hallway light.“You’re still at it?” Shuichi asked, his voice low but tinged with concern.Conan glanced back at the screen, then at Shuichi. “There’s something I need to show you.”Shuichi walked over, pulling a chair beside him. He leaned down slightly, his sharp eyes scanning the notes and images on the laptop. Conan explained everything—his discovery at the warehouse, Haibara’s insights, and the potential magnitude of what they were uncovering. As Shuichi listened, his expression darkened. “This... is bigger than I thought,” he murmured. “If this ‘Genesis Protocol’ is what I suspect, it’s not just about APTX. It could be a foundational piece of their entire operation.”Conan nodded, his hands clenched into fists. “That’s why I can’t stop. If we can uncover this, we might have the key to dismantling the organization.”Shuichi turned to face him, his gaze piercing but laced with worry. “Shinichi, do you understand what you’re putting yourself into? The deeper you dig, the more dangerous it becomes. They won’t just come after you—they’ll come after everyone you care about.”Conan met Shuichi’s gaze, his voice steady despite the fire in his eyes. “I know. But I’ve made my choice. I can’t let them keep doing this—not to me, not to anyone.”For a moment, Shuichi said nothing, his expression unreadable. Then, with a sigh, he leaned back in his chair. “You’re incredible, you know that?” His voice softened, the corners of his mouth lifting in a faint smile. “Stubborn, reckless, and incredible.”Conan blinked, caught off guard by the unexpected compliment. “Is that supposed to be reassuring?”Shuichi chuckled softly. “No. It’s supposed to remind you that you’re not alone in this.” He reached out, placing a firm hand on Conan’s shoulder. “I’ll be here, Shinichi. Whatever you need—backup, information, someone to remind you to take a break—I’m not going anywhere.”Conan’s chest tightened at the sincerity in Shuichi’s voice. The warmth of Shuichi’s hand lingered, grounding him in a way few things could. “Thanks, Shuichi-san. That means more than I can say.”Shuichi’s expression softened further, his hand sliding down to brush against Conan’s. “I mean it, Shinichi. You’re brilliant, but you don’t have to carry all of this alone.”For a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, the weight of the conversation hanging in the air but tempered by the quiet connection between them. Then Shuichi leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a near whisper. “You’ve got me worried, you know.”Conan looked up at him, startled by the admission. “Why?”“Because you’re willing to throw yourself into danger without a second thought.” Shuichi’s thumb brushed against the back of Conan’s hand in a soothing gesture. “I admire your determination, but I can’t help worrying about what might happen to you.”Conan swallowed hard, his resolve momentarily shaken by the raw emotion in Shuichi’s eyes. “I’ll be careful,” he promised, his voice barely above a whisper. “I know what’s at stake.”Shuichi gave a small nod, though the concern in his eyes didn’t fade. “I know you will. But let me be your shield when you need one. Promise me that.”Conan hesitated, then nodded slowly. “I promise.”Satisfied, Shuichi leaned back slightly, his gaze never leaving Conan. “Good. Now, let’s figure out what our next move is. Together.”The quiet determination in Shuichi’s voice reassured Conan in a way few things could. With Shuichi by his side, the burden felt a little lighter, the path ahead a little clearer. And in that moment, Conan realized that no matter how dark the road became, he wouldn’t be walking it alone. The study in the Kudo mansion had become the epicenter of their efforts. Papers were scattered across the large oak desk, digital monitors displayed encrypted files and decoded fragments, and a whiteboard was filled with hastily scrawled notes and diagrams linking agents, locations, and key events. The air was thick with tension and determination as the team worked day and night.
Week 1: Cracking the Code
It began with meticulous effort. Haibara, sitting cross-legged on a swivel chair, analyzed the documents with laser focus. Her laptop ran decryption software that churned endlessly, lines of code flashing on the screen. Conan stood nearby, his brows furrowed as he pieced together patterns from fragmented sentences. Shuichi, leaning against the doorway, silently observed, ready to step in when necessary.“Some of these codes are older than I expected,” Haibara murmured, her eyes scanning the screen. “They’re using ciphers from their early days—probably confident no one would be able to decipher them now.”“That arrogance will be their downfall,” Conan said, his voice clipped with determination. He pointed to a section of text. “This part mentions something called ‘Operation Obsidian.’ It’s vague, but it’s tied to multiple locations in Eastern Europe.”Shuichi stepped forward, placing a hand on the back of Conan’s chair. “If we can crack that operation, we might be able to pinpoint their central command. Keep digging.”The first week was grueling. Each breakthrough revealed another layer of complexity, but it also fueled their resolve. By the end of the week, they had identified three key facilities the organization had used for research and operations, though their current status remained unknown.
Week 2: Mapping the Network
The second week was dedicated to mapping the vast network of agents and resources the organization had cultivated. Using the decoded information, they began creating profiles of key members, cross-referencing them with known operatives the FBI, CIA, and JPSB had been tracking for years.Yuusaku joined the effort, bringing his analytical prowess to the table. “This isn’t just a criminal organization,” he said, pointing to a chart of names and locations. “This is a shadow empire. They have agents embedded in governments, corporations, and law enforcement worldwide.”Conan nodded grimly. “That’s why dismantling them isn’t just about taking out the top leaders. We have to unravel the entire web.”Shuichi’s gaze darkened. “Which makes this operation more dangerous. The deeper we go, the more likely they’ll notice.”Despite the risks, they pressed on. Late nights blurred into early mornings as they pieced together the puzzle, slowly revealing the organization’s scope.
Week 3: Unveiling the Truth
By the third week, the mansion had become a hive of activity. Agents from the FBI and JPSB filtered in and out, providing additional intelligence and taking instructions directly from Conan. Despite his small stature, his commanding presence and sharp mind made it clear he was the one leading the charge.Haibara discovered an encrypted file that took days to crack. When it finally opened, her gasp drew everyone’s attention. “This is it,” she whispered, her eyes wide. “It’s a list of their active agents, including their positions and assignments.”Conan quickly scanned the file. “There are hundreds of names here… maybe thousands.” He pointed to a cluster of entries. “Look at these. These are high-ranking officials in multiple countries. If we don’t handle this carefully, it could lead to a global crisis.”Shuichi leaned over the desk, his expression serious. “Then we focus on taking down the central command first. Cut off the head of the snake, and the rest will follow.”As they worked, Conan’s mind raced with the implications of what they were uncovering. The organization wasn’t just a criminal syndicate—it was a global conspiracy, with ties to every major institution. And yet, they were finally on the brink of exposing it all.
The Turning Point
By the end of the third week, they had everything they needed: the locations of the remaining research facilities, the identities of key operatives, and the details of their operations. The data also revealed the full extent of the organization’s experiments, including the twisted science behind APTX 4869 and its horrifying potential applications.Conan stood before the assembled group—Haibara, Shuichi, his parents, and key agents from the FBI, CIA, and JPSB. His voice was steady, but there was an edge of urgency. “This is it. We know where they are, who they are, and how they operate. Now we need to act. If we don’t, they’ll disappear again, and we might not get another chance.”Shuichi stepped forward, placing a reassuring hand on Conan’s shoulder. “We’re ready. You’ve done more than anyone could have asked. Now it’s time to finish this.”As they finalized the plans for the takedown, there was a shared understanding among them: this was the culmination of years of work, sacrifice, and loss. And for Conan, it was a step closer to not only dismantling the organization but reclaiming his life.
The final Preparation
The mobile command center buzzed with subdued energy as agents moved in and out, preparing for the impending strike. Maps were pinned to boards, tactical gear was laid out, and the hum of hushed conversations filled the room.In a corner of the room, Conan stood over a table strewn with blueprints and surveillance photos, his brow furrowed in concentration. Shuichi Akai approached, his silent footsteps barely registering until he stood beside the boy.“You’ve been staring at those for hours,” Shuichi said, his voice low and steady.Conan glanced up, a flicker of exhaustion in his eyes. “We can’t afford any mistakes, Shuichi. If even one detail is wrong, someone could get hurt. Or worse.”Shuichi placed a hand on Conan’s shoulder, the weight of it grounding. “You’ve planned for everything. And even if something goes off-script, we’ll handle it. Together.”Conan sighed, leaning slightly into the reassuring touch. “I know. It’s just... this is it. The culmination of everything we’ve worked for. If we fail—”“We won’t.” Shuichi’s voice was firm, leaving no room for doubt. The two fell into a comfortable silence, the weight of the moment settling over them. Around them, agents prepared for battle, but in this small bubble, it felt as if time slowed.“Shuichi,” Conan began softly, “if something happens to me—”“Don’t,” Shuichi interrupted, his tone sharp but laced with emotion. He crouched slightly so they were at eye level. “Don’t even finish that sentence.”Conan met his gaze, his blue eyes shimmering with unspoken fears. “I just... I need you to know. Everything we’ve been through, everything we’ve shared—it’s the most important thing in my life. And if I lose you—”“You won’t,” Shuichi said, his voice softening as he placed a hand gently against Conan’s cheek. “Listen to me, Shinichi. We’ve survived too much to lose each other now. I promise you, no matter what happens, I will come back to you. But you have to promise me the same.”Conan closed his eyes briefly, drawing strength from the warmth of Shuichi’s touch. “I promise.”Shuichi leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Conan’s forehead, lingering for a moment longer than usual. “Good. Because you’re stuck with me, no matter what.”Conan smiled faintly, the tension in his shoulders easing just a fraction. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The Final Briefing
The command center was filled with agents from the FBI, JPSB, and CIA, all gathered around a large screen displaying the layout of the Black Organization’s stronghold. Conan stood at the head of the room, his small frame commanding the attention of seasoned operatives.“We’ve identified the key points of interest,” Conan began, using a laser pointer to highlight areas on the map. “The primary objective is to capture high-ranking members and retrieve their archives. Secondary objectives include securing their research facilities and dismantling their tech infrastructure.”He paused, glancing around the room. “This isn’t just another mission. This is the endgame. If we succeed, we’ll dismantle the organization for good. But they’re going to fight back with everything they have. Stay focused, trust your training, and watch each other’s backs.”Shuichi, standing near the back of the room, watched Conan with a mixture of pride and worry. The boy’s determination was unshakable, but Shuichi knew the weight of this mission would take its toll.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
After the final preparations were made, the command center gradually quieted as agents retreated to their quarters. The weight of the impending mission lingered, but this night was meant for rest—a chance to gather strength for the storm to come.Conan remained at the table, his sharp eyes scanning the maps and documents for what felt like the hundredth time.“You’ve done enough,” Shuichi said softly, his presence grounding as he approached.Conan didn’t reply immediately, his lips pressed into a thin line. Finally, he sighed and leaned back in his chair. “I know. I just... I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve missed something.”Shuichi crouched slightly, meeting Conan’s gaze directly. “You’ve prepared for this better than anyone could. But you need to rest, Shinichi. You’ll only make mistakes tomorrow if you’re running on fumes.”Conan looked away, reluctant but aware of the truth in Shuichi’s words. He nodded silently, allowing Shuichi to guide him toward their small quarters.Once inside, Shuichi closed the door behind them, the faint hum of the command center muffled to near silence. The room was modest—a single bed, a desk, and a chair—but it was enough. Conan sat on the edge of the bed, watching as Shuichi removed his jacket and draped it over the chair."You’re not leaving, right?” Conan asked, his voice quieter than usual.Shuichi glanced at him, his expression soft. “Not tonight.”Conan nodded and climbed onto the bed, settling against the pillows. Shuichi joined him, sitting upright with his back to the headboard. Without thinking, Conan shifted closer, his smaller frame fitting naturally against Shuichi’s side.Shuichi’s arm came around Conan, his steady, grounding presence providing an anchor against the rising tide of anxiety threatening to overtake him. They sat together in silence, the charged atmosphere between them thick but unspoken. The warmth radiating from Shuichi’s body was comforting, yet it couldn’t completely dispel the weight pressing down on Conan’s chest.Conan’s fingers began to move almost of their own accord, his hand drifting toward Shuichi’s shirt. The fabric, smooth and cool against his fingertips, drew his attention, giving him a physical distraction from the turmoil in his mind. He traced the edge of one button, his movements slow and deliberate, the small act grounding him in the present.Shuichi’s eyes flicked downward, his expression a mix of curiosity and quiet amusement. A faint smirk tugged at his lips, though his emerald gaze remained soft. “What are you doing?” he asked, his voice low, edged with a teasing note.Conan blinked, his cheeks tinged faintly pink as though just realizing what he was doing. Still, his hands didn’t stop. “Nothing,” he murmured, his tone deliberately casual, though the heat in his face betrayed him.Shuichi let out a quiet chuckle, his voice a low rumble. “If you say so,” he replied, his hand lifting to gently tousle Conan’s hair. The touch was light and affectionate, as though to diffuse the growing tension between them.Conan’s fingers moved with increasing confidence, the top button of Shuichi’s shirt slipping free under his touch. Then another, and another. The hollow of Shuichi’s throat became visible, followed by more of his chest, the toned muscles beneath marked faintly with old scars. The fabric parted gradually, baring the expanse of skin that gleamed faintly in the dim light. By the time the fourth button was undone, and then the fifth, Shuichi finally lifted his hand, catching Conan’s wrist gently.“Shinichi,” Shuichi said softly, his voice calm but carrying an undertone of quiet gravity. His fingers curled lightly around Conan’s smaller hand, halting his movements without force. “You should rest.”Conan looked up at him, his wide blue eyes locking onto Shuichi’s steady gaze. For a moment, he didn’t move, the air between them thick with an unspoken understanding. Finally, Conan exhaled and leaned forward, resting his forehead lightly against Shuichi’s exposed chest where the fabric parted. His voice was small, vulnerable. “I’m just… nervous.”Shuichi’s free hand slid into Conan’s hair, his fingers threading through the soft strands in a slow, soothing motion. “I know,” he replied, his voice low and steady, a calm counterpoint to the storm inside Conan’s mind. “But you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here.”Conan closed his eyes, his cheek pressing against the warmth of Shuichi’s chest. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath his skin was a quiet reassurance, anchoring him. “Promise me you’ll come back,” Conan murmured, his words carrying a quiet but undeniable plea.Shuichi’s lips brushed against the crown of Conan’s head in a soft, lingering kiss. “I promise,” he said firmly, his voice resonating with quiet conviction. “And you’ll promise me the same.”“I will,” Conan whispered, his tone resolute despite the faint quiver in his voice. As the tension began to ease, Shuichi shifted, guiding them both down onto the bed with care. Conan tucked himself closer, his head resting against Shuichi’s shoulder, while Shuichi’s arm came around him protectively. The faint light from the window played over them, casting soft shadows as they lay together, the quiet intimacy of the moment a promise in itself. Whatever came next, they would face it side by side. The faintest smile graced Conan’s lips as he drifted off, the soft brush of Shuichi’s fingers through his hair the last thing he felt before sleep claimed him. Shuichi, too, allowed his eyes to close, their shared connection grounding him in a way words never could. The Takedown
The night was dense with tension. Spotlights cut through the misty air surrounding the sprawling industrial complex on the edge of Tokyo. Hidden within its labyrinthine warehouses and underground facilities lay the heart of the Black Organization—a nexus of their operations, tech, and secrets. Tonight, it would all come crashing down.Conan stood at the center of a dimly lit mobile command center. The hum of machinery and the chatter of agents filled the space. Multiple monitors displayed live feeds from drones, body cams, and satellite images. The combined forces of the FBI, JPSB, and CIA were ready to strike.“Teams Alpha through Delta, confirm your positions,” Conan’s voice was calm, almost clinical, despite the storm brewing around him.“Alpha in position.”
“Bravo set.”
“Delta team locked and ready.”Shuichi Akai’s voice crackled over the comms. “Sniper teams in place. No movement yet from their sentries.”“Copy that,” Conan replied, his sharp eyes scanning the live feeds. He wore an earpiece connected to every unit in the field, his hands resting lightly on the command console. Despite his small stature, his presence dominated the room.Jodie Starling glanced at him, impressed. “You sure about this timing, cool kid? We’re cutting it close.”Conan didn’t look up. “We’ve calculated every variable. Trust me.”She nodded, her faith in him unshaken.Suddenly, an alert beeped on one of the monitors. Conan’s gaze snapped to the screen. “Movement on the east perimeter. They’re adjusting their patrols. Teams, hold your positions. Let them settle.”“Copy,” came Akai’s steady voice.Minutes ticked by like hours as the tension grew. Then, Conan spotted what he’d been waiting for: a coded signal in the organization’s encrypted network—a shift in their security protocols.“Now,” he commanded. “All teams, breach!”The explosion of synchronized action was deafening.
On the ground:
FBI and JPSB operatives stormed the perimeter, breaching gates and neutralizing sentries with precision. Flashbangs erupted, disorienting the organization’s guards. Gunfire crackled in the distance as teams pushed into the compound.
In the air:
Drones buzzed overhead, providing live intel. CIA operatives rappelled down from helicopters, infiltrating the upper levels of the main building.
From the shadows:
Akai picked off key guards from his vantage point, his sniper rifle a silent force of nature. Each shot was precise, clearing the way for advancing teams.
Inside the command center:
Conan’s voice directed the chaos with surgical precision. “Delta, cover Alpha’s left flank! Bravo, they’re reinforcing the west exit—block it off! Akai, there’s a hostile moving toward the north tower. Take him down!”“On it,” Akai replied, and a second later, a hostile dropped on the monitor.Suddenly, a sharp beep sounded—an alert from Conan’s terminal. A heat signature had appeared in the lower levels of the compound.“Boss?” Jodie asked, noticing Conan’s focused expression.“It’s her,” Conan said grimly, referring to Vermouth. “She’s moving toward the archives. If she escapes with those files, we lose everything.”He grabbed his headset. “Alpha, converge on Sublevel 3. Vermouth is heading for the archives. Block all exits!”
In the field:
The agents moved swiftly, but Vermouth was faster. A sleek figure dressed in black, she darted through the dim corridors, taking out agents with deadly efficiency.Conan’s voice cut through the comms. “She’s heading for the southeast stairwell. Team Bravo, intercept her!”
Back in the command center:
The sound of heavy gunfire made Conan’s stomach tighten, but he didn’t falter. He traced Vermouth’s path on the monitors, issuing commands in real-time. “She’s doubling back—JPSB, cut her off at Corridor 7!”Then, another alert. Conan’s blood ran cold. “Boss—this isn’t just an archive. They’ve rigged it to blow if they’re cornered. The countdown just started.”Jodie’s face paled. “They’re going to destroy the whole facility?”Conan’s mind raced. “Not if I can help it. Shuichi-san, I need you to cover me. I’m going in.”
In the field:
Conan slipped through the chaos, his small form unnoticed amidst the towering agents and chaos. Akai’s voice was in his ear. “You’re insane, you know that?”“Just keep them off me,” Conan replied, determination hardening his voice. He reached the archives, a massive room filled with rows of servers and physical documents. The countdown clock on the wall read 2:00. Vermouth stood at the far end, her gun trained on the servers.“You just can’t stay out of trouble, can you?” she said, her voice dripping with amusement.Conan didn’t flinch. “This ends here, Vermouth. Surrender, or I’ll stop you myself.”Her laughter echoed. “You’re bold, I’ll give you that. But this is far from over.”The next moments blurred into chaos. Vermouth lunged, but Conan was faster, using his soccer ball gadget to disarm her. Akai and the agents burst in moments later, subduing her as Conan rushed to the bomb.“Shuichi-san, I need time!” Conan yelled, his fingers flying over the control panel.“You’ve got thirty seconds, make it count!” Akai shouted, firing at approaching reinforcements. The clock ticked down. 10... 9... 8...“Got it!” Conan yelled as the countdown froze at 1 second. The room erupted in cheers as Vermouth was hauled away, defeated.
Back in the command center:
As the dust settled, Conan stood with Akai by his side, watching as the organization’s remnants were rounded up. The young detective’s shoulders sagged slightly, the weight of victory heavy but satisfying.Shuichi placed a hand on his shoulder. “You did it, Shinichi. It’s over.”Conan nodded, his voice quiet but firm. “Not just me. All of us.”And for the first time, he felt a flicker of hope that the nightmare was finally ending.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Aftermath at the Kudo Mansion
The Kudo mansion was filled with a charged atmosphere, the air heavy with anticipation and relief after the successful takedown of the Black Organization. The eclectic group—FBI agents, police officials, and close friends—had gathered in the spacious living room. Inspector Megure stood near the entrance, his trademark hat in hand, while Yuusaku and Yukiko Kudo stood side by side, their expressions a mix of pride and concern.Conan—no, Shinichi—stood at the center of it all, his small frame somehow commanding the attention of everyone in the room. Shuichi stood nearby, his gaze steady on the boy, offering silent support.Megure was the first to speak, his deep voice cutting through the murmurs. “Conan-kun, I think it’s time you explain everything. We deserve to know the truth.”Ran, seated beside her father, glanced at Conan with wide, questioning eyes. “Conan-kun… what’s going on?”Yuusaku stepped forward, his calm demeanor laced with a hint of urgency. “It’s time, They all need to hear it.”Conan exhaled deeply, his small hands clenched at his sides. He had known this moment would come, but now that it was here, it felt heavier than he had imagined. He looked up, his gaze sweeping the room, meeting the eyes of the people he cared about most.“My real name isn’t Conan Edogawa,” he began, his voice steady but tinged with emotion. “It’s Shinichi Kudo.”A stunned silence fell over the room. Megure’s eyes widened, and he straightened up, his shock evident. Ran’s lips parted, a faint gasp escaping her as her father’s brows furrowed in confusion.“Shinichi?” Ran whispered, her voice trembling.Conan—Shinichi—nodded, removing the trade mark glasses. “Yes. I’m the same Shinichi Kudo who disappeared more than a year ago. And the reason I look like this…” He gestured to his childlike body. “...is because of a drug called APTX 4869. The organization we just dismantled developed it. They used it to assassinate people by faking heart attacks. But when they gave it to me, it didn’t kill me. It shrank me instead.”Megure took a step closer, his usually composed expression shaken. “You mean to tell me… all this time, you’ve been a child in appearance, but you were still the same Shinichi Kudo?”“Yes, Inspector,” Shinichi said, his voice firm. “And I’ve been working to take down the organization ever since. They’re responsible for countless deaths and a global network of crime. But it wasn’t just about me. It was about stopping them before they could hurt anyone else.”Ran’s hands trembled as she stared at him, tears brimming in her eyes. “Shinichi… you’ve been here this whole time? Right in front of me?”Shinichi’s voice softened. “Yes. I couldn’t tell you, Ran. It was too dangerous. The organization would have killed anyone who knew the truth.”Ran’s tears spilled over, but before she could respond, Yukiko stepped forward, her voice gentle but firm. “Shinichi did what he thought was best, Ran-chan. But believe me, it wasn’t easy for him. We all carried this secret together, and it weighed on all of us.”Yuusaku placed a reassuring hand on his wife’s shoulder, his sharp eyes scanning the room. “The data we recovered from the organization’s servers was the key. Not only did it contain the identities of their operatives, but it also held the complete formula and research notes for APTX 4869.”Megure’s brows knit together. “You mean there’s a chance to reverse what happened to him?”Haibara, who had been standing quietly by the door, finally spoke. “Yes, there’s a chance. But it’s not guaranteed. The data gives us a starting point, but it will take time to develop a cure.”Ran knelt in front of Shinichi, her tears falling freely. “Shinichi… why didn’t you trust me with this? I could’ve helped you.”Shinichi’s own voice cracked, his emotions finally surfacing. “It wasn’t about trust, Ran. It was about protecting you. If they’d found out you knew, they wouldn’t have hesitated to hurt you. I couldn’t take that risk.”Ran pulled him into a fierce hug, her tears soaking into his hair. “You idiot,” she whispered. “You didn’t have to go through this alone.”Megure let out a deep sigh, shaking his head. “Conan-kun… or should I say Shinichi-kun… you’ve always been reckless. But I can’t deny that what you’ve done is remarkable. You’ve accomplished something most adults couldn’t.”Jodie stepped forward, a small smile playing on her lips. “He’s not just remarkable, Inspector. He’s extraordinary. Without him, we wouldn’t have taken down the organization.”Shuichi, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. His voice was calm but carried an undercurrent of pride. “Shinichi has done more than any of us expected. But he hasn’t done it alone. Everyone in this room played a part. And now, it’s over.”The room fell silent again, the weight of Shuichi’s words settling over them. For the first time in years, there was a sense of closure—a collective understanding that the nightmare of the Black Organization had finally ended.Shinichi looked up at Shuichi, a faint smile on his lips. Their eyes met, and in that moment, no words were needed. The bond they had forged through trials and danger spoke louder than any declaration.Yuusaku clapped his hands together, breaking the silence. “Now that the truth is out, let’s focus on what comes next. Shinichi, you’ve taken on more than anyone could have asked of you. But it’s time to think about your future.”Shinichi glanced around the room, his gaze lingering on Ran, Megure, his parents, and finally Shuichi. For the first time in a long time, he allowed himself to hope—not just for a cure, but for a life where he could finally be himself again. And as the people around him began discussing their next steps, Shinichi felt a quiet sense of relief. The truth was out, and though the road ahead would be challenging, he knew he wouldn’t be walking it alone. The Kudo mansion had quieted down as the night stretched on. The weight of the day’s revelations lingered in the air, and the guests had started to settle or take their leave. Shinichi found himself in the garden, the soft glow of the moonlight illuminating his childlike frame.Ran approached him quietly, her footsteps light against the grass. She stopped a few feet away, hesitant but determined. “Shinichi…” she began, her voice soft.He turned to face her, his small body almost swallowed by the oversized hoodie he wore. His expression softened when he saw her, but there was also a weariness in his eyes—a hint of the struggles he’d endured in silence.“Ran,” he said quietly, offering her a faint smile. “You should be resting.”She shook her head, stepping closer. “I can’t rest, not after everything. I need to talk to you.” Her hands clenched at her sides, her voice trembling as she continued. “Shinichi… after everything we’ve been through, after all this time, I just need to know. Do you still…?”Her words hung in the air, unfinished but clear.Shinichi looked down, his chest tightening. He had known this conversation was inevitable, but that didn’t make it any easier. He took a deep breath, steadying himself before meeting her gaze.“Ran,” he began, his voice barely above a whisper, “you’ve always been important to me. You’re one of the most important people in my life. That’s never changed, and it never will.”Ran’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. “Then why, Shinichi? Why did you keep me in the dark? Why didn’t you tell me? And now… now that I know the truth, why does it feel like you’re still pushing me away?”He closed the distance between them, reaching up to take her hands in his smaller ones. “Because I can’t give you what you deserve, Ran. Not now. Not ever.”Her tears finally spilled over. “Why? I don’t understand. I’ve waited for you, Shinichi. I’ve held on, even when I didn’t know if you were alive. And now you’re here, right in front of me, and you’re saying it’s not possible?”Shinichi’s grip on her hands tightened, his voice breaking as he spoke. “Because my heart belongs to someone else.”Ran’s breath hitched, and she pulled back slightly, her eyes wide with shock. “Someone else? Shinichi… who?”He hesitated, the words heavy on his tongue. But he owed her the truth—after everything, she deserved nothing less. “Shuichi.”Her reaction was immediate. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and she shook her head slightly, as if trying to process what she’d just heard. “Shuichi… Akai-san? But… how? When?”Shinichi stepped back, letting his hands fall to his sides. He glanced up at the moon, the silvery light casting shadows on his face. “It wasn’t something I planned, Ran. It just… happened. Through everything we’ve been through together—the danger, the trust, the way he’s always been there for me—I realized how much he means to me. How much I love him.”Ran’s lips quivered, but she didn’t speak. She simply listened as Shinichi’s voice grew more fervent, raw with emotion.“He’s seen every side of me—the good, the bad, the broken. And he’s never wavered, never walked away. With him, I don’t have to hide. I don’t have to pretend. He’s my anchor, Ran. My home.”Tears streamed down her face as she watched him, her heart breaking at the sincerity in his voice. “But Shinichi… what about us? What about everything we’ve shared? All those promises?”He turned back to her, his own eyes glistening. “I’ll always cherish what we had, Ran. You were my first love, and that’s something I’ll never forget. But I’ve changed. I’m not the same person I was before all this. And the truth is, I can’t give you the love you deserve. I can’t give you all of me… because all of me already belongs to him.”Ran’s sobs were quiet but heart-wrenching. She wrapped her arms around herself, her shoulders shaking. “I don’t know if I can accept this, Shinichi. Not yet.”“I understand,” he said softly. “Take all the time you need. I never wanted to hurt you, Ran. But you deserved to know the truth.”For a long moment, they stood there in the garden, the silence broken only by the faint rustling of leaves. Finally, Ran wiped her tears, her movements slow and deliberate.“Shinichi,” she said, her voice steadier now, “I’ll always care about you. But I need time to figure out how to move forward from this.”He nodded, his expression pained but understanding. “Take all the time you need, Ran. I’ll always be here if you need me.”With a final, lingering look, Ran turned and walked back toward the house, leaving Shinichi alone under the moonlight. He watched her go, his heart heavy but resolute. When he felt a familiar presence behind him, he turned to see Shuichi standing at the edge of the garden, his expression unreadable. Without a word, Shuichi stepped closer, his hand brushing lightly against Shinichi’s shoulder.“Are you okay?” Shuichi asked quietly, his voice low and soothing.Shinichi leaned into the touch, his small hand resting over Shuichi’s. “I will be,” he replied, his voice steady. “As long as I have you.”Shuichi pulled him into a gentle embrace, his arms enveloping Shinichi as they stood together under the moonlit sky. And for the first time that night, Shinichi felt a sense of peace, knowing he had made the right choice.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
A few days later
The Kudo mansion was calm, the late afternoon light streaming through the windows. Yuusaku sat on the armchair with his ever-composed demeanor, while Yukiko perched on the sofa, her expression as vibrant and lively as ever. Conan stood in the middle of the room, his small stature belying the weight of what he was about to say.He shifted uncomfortably, rubbing the back of his neck. “Mom, Dad… I need to talk to you about something.”Yukiko smiled warmly, folding her hands under her chin. “Of course, darling. Go on.”Yuusaku tilted his head slightly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “We’re listening, Shinichi.”Shinichi paused, gathering his courage, then looked up at them with resolute determination. “It’s about Shuichi. Akai Shuichi.”Yukiko and Yuusaku exchanged a quick glance. Their expressions didn’t shift much, but there was a knowing twinkle in Yukiko’s eyes that Shinichi didn’t catch.“I…” Shinichi hesitated, the words catching in his throat. He looked down, his small hands clenching into fists before he took a deep breath and forged ahead. “I love him. Shuichi means everything to me, and I… I wanted you to know.”The room fell silent for a moment, and Shinichi braced himself for their reaction. But Yukiko’s laughter, soft and sweet, broke through the stillness.“Oh, darling,” she said, her tone laced with affection and mischief. “Is this your big confession? I hate to break it to you, but we’ve known for quite some time.”Shinichi’s eyes widened. “You… you knew?”Yuusaku smirked faintly, leaning back in his chair. “We’re your parents, Shinichi. It wasn’t exactly hard to figure out. The way you talk about Shuichi, the way your eyes soften when he’s around… It’s been clear for a while.”Yukiko leaned forward, her emerald eyes sparkling with amusement. “Honestly, sweetie, I’m surprised it took you this long to say something. Did you think you could keep a secret like that from us?”Shinichi flushed, his face turning an unmistakable shade of pink. “I just… I wanted to tell you myself. I didn’t know if you’d…”Yukiko waved a hand dismissively, cutting him off. “If we’d what? Disapprove? Oh, darling, Shuichi is wonderful! He’s smart, strong, and oh-so-handsome.” She winked playfully, making Shinichi groan in embarrassment.“Mom…” he muttered, hiding his face in his hands.Yuusaku chuckled, his tone warm. “What your mother is trying to say—albeit with her usual flair—is that we’re happy for you. Shuichi has proven himself time and again to be someone who values and protects you. If he’s the one you’ve chosen, we trust your judgment.”Shinichi peeked through his fingers, a mixture of relief and exasperation on his face. “I don’t even know why I thought this would be a surprise.”“Because you underestimate how well we know you,” Yukiko teased, reaching out to ruffle his hair. “Honestly, Shin-chan, you’re so dramatic sometimes.”“I’m not dramatic,” Shinichi muttered, though his blush deepened.“Oh, and when you get your body back,” Yukiko added with a sly grin, “I expect a formal dinner where you properly introduce Shuichi as your partner. I’ll even help you pick out a suit!”“Mom!” Shinichi groaned, throwing his hands up in frustration.Yuusaku’s smirk widened. “You do realize this is her way of expressing support, don’t you?”“Yeah, yeah,” Shinichi grumbled, though the corners of his mouth tugged upward in a reluctant smile.Yukiko leaned back with a satisfied sigh. “Good. Now that that’s settled, let me just say that I’m thrilled you found someone who makes you happy. And tell Shuichi he has my full approval—not that he needs it, of course.”Shinichi rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress the warmth spreading through his chest. Despite his initial nerves, he felt an overwhelming sense of relief.“Thanks, Mom. Thanks, Dad,” he said quietly, his voice filled with sincerity.Yuusaku gave a single, approving nod. “We’re proud of you, Shinichi. For everything.”As the conversation lightened, Shinichi felt a weight lift from his shoulders. He had always known his parents would support him, but hearing their words—feeling their unshakable belief in him—solidified the love and trust they shared as a family. And as Yukiko launched into a spirited monologue about potential wedding venues “for the future,” Shinichi could only sigh and shake his head, his heart full of gratitude for the people who had always stood by him.
Week 1: The Beginning of the End
The lab in the basement of the Professor’s house was alive with activity. Beakers bubbled, machines hummed, and Haibara’s precise movements filled the room with purpose. She barely acknowledged anyone as she worked, her focus entirely on the formula that could change everything.Yukiko hovered nearby, her usually cheerful demeanor replaced by a nervous energy. “Shiho, are you sure you don’t need anything? Tea? A snack? A break?”Haibara didn’t look up. “What I need is silence and time. I don’t have much of the latter, so if you could provide the former, that would be helpful.”Yukiko huffed but retreated, joining Yusaku and Shuichi upstairs. The three of them had settled into a rhythm of restless waiting, punctuated by moments of pacing and long silences. In contrast, Conan was calm. Too calm, it seemed, for everyone around him. He spent his days meticulously planning his next steps, tying up loose ends, and, in quiet moments, watching the people he cared about with a wistful smile.Shuichi cornered him one evening in the study, his arms crossed. “You’re taking this too lightly,” he said, his voice low but firm.Conan looked up from a notebook where he’d been jotting down notes. “And you’re taking it too hard. We’ve done everything we can. Now it’s in Haibara’s hands. Worrying won’t change the outcome.”Shuichi’s frown deepened. “It’s not the waiting I’m worried about. It’s you. You’ve been… distant.”Conan hesitated, then closed the notebook. “I’m not being distant. I’m preparing.”“For what?”Conan’s eyes softened. “For what comes after.”
Week 2: Quiet Goodbyes
Word spread among the Detective Boys that Conan would soon be leaving for the United States with his parents. He told them it was a sudden decision, a move to support his father’s work, but they took it hard nonetheless.“Do you really have to go?” Ayumi asked, her eyes wide with unshed tears.Conan knelt down, offering her a small smile. “I do. But you’ll keep solving mysteries here, won’t you? You’re all great detectives now. I’m sure you’ll handle everything just fine.”Genta sniffled, trying to hide his emotions. “It won’t be the same without you, Conan.”“It won’t be the same for me either,” Conan admitted. “But I’ll always remember you. And who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll come back and surprise you.”Mitsuhiko adjusted his glasses, trying to appear composed. “You’ll write to us, right? And send emails?”“Of course,” Conan said, his voice gentle. As the group hugged him tightly, Conan felt a pang of guilt. He hated lying to them, but the truth was far more complicated than they could understand.
Week 3: Restlessness and Resolve
The atmosphere in the Kudo mansion grew heavier with each passing day. Yukiko and Yusaku tried to distract themselves with lighthearted banter, but their worry was palpable.Yukiko sat on the couch, fidgeting with her hands. “Do you think she’s close? It’s been weeks, and she hasn’t said anything.”Yusaku glanced up from his book, his expression unreadable. “She’s a perfectionist. She won’t say anything until she’s certain.”Shuichi, leaning against the wall, interjected. “And what if she can’t finish it? What if—”“Enough.” Conan’s voice cut through the tension as he entered the room. His calm demeanor silenced them, though the weight of his words lingered. “Haibara will finish it. I trust her.”Shuichi’s gaze softened as he looked at Conan. “You’re too composed for someone whose life hangs in the balance.”Conan shrugged. “I’ve had years to prepare for this moment. The rest of you should follow my lead.”
Week 4: A Heartfelt Moment
One night, Conan stood on the balcony, the cool breeze brushing against his face. Shuichi joined him, the silence between them comfortable yet charged.“You’ve been saying goodbye,” Shuichi said quietly.Conan nodded. “They deserve that much.”“And what about me?”Conan turned to face him, his eyes shimmering in the moonlight. “You already know, don’t you? Every moment I’ve spent with you has been a goodbye and a promise all at once. I don’t need words to tell you that.”Shuichi stepped closer, brushing a hand against Conan’s cheek. “When you take that antidote, when you’re Shinichi again… what then?”“I come back to you,” Conan said without hesitation. “As myself. Completely.”Shuichi’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Then I’ll wait. However long it takes.”The two stood there, wrapped in the quiet intimacy of the night, as the mansion behind them buzzed with anticipation for what was to come.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Shinichi’s Back
The antidote’s effects were both immediate and breathtaking. Conan had stood in front of the mirror, staring at the reflection he hadn’t seen in so long—his true self, Shinichi Kudo. His body felt alien yet familiar, like putting on a long-forgotten but perfectly tailored suit. The house was still bathed in the gray quiet of early morning. Most of the others were asleep, exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster of the past weeks. But Shinichi didn’t pause to revel in his transformation or dwell on the moment. There was someone he needed to see first.Quietly, he slipped out of the house and made his way to the Kudo Mansion. His heart raced, not with nerves but with the electric anticipation of what this moment meant. For both of them.
A Kiss to Start the Day
Shuichi’s room was dimly lit by the first hints of dawn filtering through the blinds. Shinichi let himself in, his movements careful and deliberate. Shuichi was still asleep, lying on his side with one arm tucked beneath his pillow, the other resting loosely by his side. His face, usually sharp and alert, was softened in sleep, making him look younger, more vulnerable.Shinichi felt his chest tighten. He approached the bed, crouching down beside it to study Shuichi’s face. For a moment, he just watched, marveling at the man who had become so much more than an anchor in his life.Leaning in, Shinichi pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Shuichi’s lips. It was gentle but deliberate, a quiet declaration of everything he had felt but couldn’t fully express until now.Shuichi stirred, his eyes fluttering open. The sight of Shinichi, so close, caught him off guard. For a split second, confusion flickered across his face, but it was quickly replaced by recognition—and something deeper, something warmer.“Shinichi,” Shuichi murmured, his voice husky with sleep.Shinichi smiled, his hand brushing a strand of hair from Shuichi’s forehead. “Good morning.”Shuichi blinked, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly as if confirming he wasn’t dreaming. Then, a slow, incredulous smile spread across his face. “So, the antidote worked.”Shinichi chuckled softly. “Obviously. I thought you’d enjoy being the first to find out.”Shuichi reached up, his fingers tracing the line of Shinichi’s jaw, as if committing every detail to memory. “You came straight here?”“Of course,” Shinichi said, his voice quiet but steady. “There was no one else I wanted to see first.”Shuichi sat up fully, leaning against the headboard as Shinichi remained beside him. The soft light filtering through the curtains framed them in a golden haze, the morning still and intimate.Shinichi took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on their intertwined hands. “Shuichi,” he began, his voice steady but low, “there’s something I’ve been wanting to say for a long time. Something I couldn’t fully express until now.”Shuichi watched him, his sharp eyes softening, his thumb brushing over Shinichi’s knuckles in a silent encouragement.“I’ve spent so much of my life fighting,” Shinichi continued, his tone growing more intense with every word. “Fighting the organization, fighting to get my body back, fighting to keep the people I care about safe. And through all of it, you’ve been there—quietly, steadily, giving me strength even when I didn’t know I needed it.”Shinichi’s eyes lifted to meet Shuichi’s, and the raw emotion in them was unmistakable. “You’ve given me a kind of peace I didn’t think I could ever have. A place where I can just... be. And now that I’m back—now that I’m me again—I don’t want to hold back anymore.”Shuichi’s brows furrowed slightly, his expression unreadable, though his fingers tightened slightly around Shinichi’s.“I love you, Shuichi,” Shinichi said, his voice trembling just slightly with the weight of the confession. “I love you so much it feels like it’s woven into every part of me. And I want... I need to give you everything. My heart, my body, my soul—I want to be yours completely.”Shuichi’s breath hitched, and for a moment, he said nothing, his sharp gaze searching Shinichi’s face as if trying to process the enormity of what he’d just heard.Shinichi pressed on, his voice growing more urgent. “I don’t just want to be with you. I want to be consumed by you, to feel you in every part of my life. I want to belong to you, in every way that matters, because you already have all of me. And I can’t imagine giving myself to anyone else.”Shuichi’s free hand reached up, cupping Shinichi’s face with a tenderness that belied the intensity of his own feelings. “Shinichi,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.Shinichi leaned into the touch, his own hand covering Shuichi’s. “I know we’ve been careful. I know we’ve held back because of my condition. But now? There’s nothing stopping me anymore. Nothing stopping us. And I want you to know that I’m ready—ready to be yours, in every way that matters.”For a long moment, the room was silent, save for the faint sound of their breaths mingling in the quiet. Then Shuichi pulled Shinichi closer, their foreheads resting together as he spoke.“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that,” Shuichi said, his voice thick with emotion. “But I need you to know something, Shinichi. As much as I want you, as much as I feel the same way, I’ll never rush you. I’ll never push you into something you’re not ready for. You’re everything to me—your heart, your mind, your soul. And when the time comes for us to take that final step, I’ll make sure it’s perfect.”Shinichi closed his eyes, a single tear slipping down his cheek as he smiled. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life, Shuichi. I’m ready whenever you are.”Shuichi’s thumb gently wiped the tear away, and he pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Shinichi’s forehead. “Then we’ll take this journey together. Step by step, moment by moment. And I promise you, Shinichi—you’ll always have all of me, just as I’ll always have all of you.”As they sat there in the quiet of the morning, wrapped in each other’s warmth, there was no doubt in either of their minds: this was where they belonged. Together, fully, completely.
The Kudo Parents
The morning sun had climbed higher as Shinichi and Shuichi stepped out of the room together. Shinichi took a deep breath, the air feeling fresher than it had in years. The world lay before him, bright and open, and he wasn’t facing it alone.Their first stop was the library, where Yusaku and Yukiko had been waiting. Shinichi barely had the chance to step through the door before Yukiko rushed forward, wrapping her arms around him tightly.“My baby boy!” she cried, her voice thick with emotion as tears streamed down her cheeks. “You’re really back!”Shinichi hugged her just as tightly, his heart aching with love and guilt. “I’m back, Mom. For good this time.”Yusaku approached more quietly, his sharp eyes soft with pride. He placed a steady hand on Shinichi’s shoulder. “You’ve been through more than anyone should have to, Shinichi. But you came out of it stronger than ever. We’re proud of you.”Yukiko pulled back slightly, her hands cupping Shinichi’s face as she studied him with tear-filled eyes. “You’ve grown so much, but you’ll always be my little Shin-chan.”“I know,” Shinichi promised.Shuichi stood respectfully to the side, but Yukiko wasn’t about to let him off the hook. She turned to him with a teasing smile, her hands on her hips. “And you, Shuichi Akai—you’d better take care of my son, or you’ll have me to answer to!”Shuichi inclined his head with a small smile. “I wouldn’t dream of doing anything less.”The Professor and AmuroNext, they visited Hakase, who greeted Shinichi with an uncharacteristically tight hug. “You’ve always been like a grandson to me,” the older man said, his voice thick with emotion. “Seeing you back and safe again is the greatest gift I could ask for.”Their next stop was Amuro’s café. Amuro’s golden eyes lit up when he saw them, a genuine smile breaking across his face. “Kudo-kun,” he said, his voice warm. “Welcome back. The world’s a better place with you in it.”Shinichi returned the smile, his heart lighter. “Thanks, Amuro-san. That means a lot.”
The FBI
The FBI headquarters came next. Jodie, Camel, and the others gathered to greet them, their expressions a mix of relief and pride. “You’ve been a thorn in the organization’s side for so long, cool guy,” Jodie said with a grin. “It’s good to see you finally get your life back.”Camel clapped him on the shoulder. “You’ve earned it, Kudo-kun. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”Shuichi stood by Shinichi’s side throughout, a quiet pillar of strength. Then came the hardest part: his friends. At the café where they often gathered, Hattori, Ran, Sera, Sonoko, Kyogoku, and Kazuha were waiting. The moment Shinichi stepped through the door, the room fell silent.Shinichi's FriendsHattori was the first to move, his usual brashness replaced by raw emotion as he grabbed Shinichi in a fierce hug. “Kudo, you idiot. You should’ve told me sooner.”Shinichi laughed softly, his voice breaking. “I wanted to, Hattori. I really did.”Ran approached next, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “Shinichi…”“I’m sorry, Ran,” he said, his voice gentle but firm. “For everything. But I hope you understand now why I couldn’t tell you before.”Ran nodded, a single tear escaping. “I do. And I’m just glad you’re okay.”Sonoko, Kazuha, and Sera each embraced him in turn, their words a mix of relief and playful scolding. Kyogoku offered a deep bow, his quiet sincerity evident in his eyes. Finally, they visited the precinct. Inspector Megure stood waiting, his familiar trench coat and hat a comforting sight. When Shinichi stepped forward, Megure looked at him for a long moment before pulling him into a brief, fatherly hug.“You’ve been through a lot, Kudo-kun,” he said, his voice gruff with emotion. “But you’ve made us all proud.”Shinichi smiled, the weight in his chest easing. “Thank you, Inspector. That means a lot.”Through it all, Shuichi remained by his side, a silent, steady presence. And as the day wore on, Shinichi realized something important: no matter how many goodbyes he said or how many truths he revealed, he wasn’t doing it alone. They were bracing the world together, and with Shuichi by his side, Shinichi knew he could face anything.
Shuichi's Family
They had met everyone on Shinichi’s side. Now, it was time to reverse the roles. They needed to “revive the dead,” so to speak—it was time to meet Shuichi’s family. But before that, Shinichi needed to confess something to him. Something delicate and potentially life-changing.He found Shuichi in the study at the mansion, surrounded by a sea of papers related to the organization’s takedown. The soft glow of the desk lamp illuminated his features, his brows furrowed in focus. Shinichi paused in the doorway, a small, affectionate smile curling on his lips as he watched the man he had come to cherish.Silently, he crept behind Shuichi and wrapped his arms around him from behind. His hands slid from Shuichi’s shoulders to his chest, fingertips ghosting over the exposed skin revealed by the undone buttons of his shirt. The warmth of Shuichi’s skin against his palms was grounding. Leaning forward, Shinichi pressed a soft kiss to the side of Shuichi’s neck, his lips lingering for a moment before he rested his forehead there, hiding his face.Shuichi stiffened briefly at the unexpected touch, but as soon as he registered it was Shinichi, he relaxed entirely. His eyes fluttered shut, and a quiet sigh escaped him. Tilting his head back, he leaned into Shinichi’s touch, his body melting into the comfort of the embrace. For a few moments, they stayed like that, the silence between them speaking volumes. After a beat, Shuichi reached up, taking hold of Shinichi’s wrists with one hand and guiding him gently. With a firm but careful tug, he pulled Shinichi around and onto his lap. His arms encircled Shinichi’s waist, holding him securely as he buried his face in the crook of Shinichi’s neck. He inhaled deeply, the familiar scent of Shinichi calming the storm that had been brewing in his chest.“You’ve become my entire world, Shinichi,” Shuichi murmured against his skin, his voice soft but filled with emotion. His grip tightened slightly, as though grounding himself in the reality of the moment.Shinichi’s hands moved to Shuichi’s hair, his fingers threading through the dark strands in a soothing rhythm. “Nervous?” Shinichi asked, his voice gentle, but with a knowing edge.Shuichi exhaled slowly, his breath warm against Shinichi’s neck. “A little,” he admitted, his tone low and quiet.Shinichi hummed in response, a soft sound of acknowledgment. The silence that followed wasn’t awkward but rather filled with unspoken understanding. They stayed entwined, drawing strength from each other, until Shuichi finally pulled back.He studied Shinichi’s face with an intensity that made the younger man’s cheeks warm. “What is it?” Shuichi asked, his voice calm but edged with concern. It wasn’t a demand, but a gentle urging, as though he already sensed the weight on Shinichi’s mind.Shinichi hesitated before offering a small, nervous smile. Of course, Shuichi would see right through him. “There’s something you should know,” he said softly, his tone wavering slightly. “It’s… not going to be easy.”Shuichi’s brows knit together as he nodded encouragingly. “Go on.”Taking a deep breath, Shinichi began, his words careful but steady. “I don’t have definite proof, but… I think your mom, Mary Sera, was poisoned by APTX as well.”Shuichi froze, the color draining from his face. His breath hitched audibly, and for a moment, he seemed to lose himself in the gravity of Shinichi’s words. Slowly, he drew back, his green eyes locking onto Shinichi’s with an intensity that made Shinichi’s heart ache.“Ho…” Shuichi started, his voice faltering. He cleared his throat, steadying himself. “How do you know?”Shinichi explained, detailing the inconsistencies he had noticed. The mentions of Sera – Masumi living in hotels with a small girl. Sera’s odd remarks about her mother’s appearance, speaking in the past tense. And the final revelation—the moment Shinichi, as Conan, had realized he had seen her before, unchanged but smaller. As Shinichi spoke, Shuichi’s expression shifted from shock to thoughtfulness, the pieces falling into place in his mind. “Shukichi mentioned something a while back,” Shuichi said after a moment, his voice quiet but firm. “Mother’s been refusing to meet anyone, even him. If she… shrank, that would explain why. She wouldn’t want anyone to see her like that, not even her own son.”Shinichi relaxed slightly in Shuichi’s embrace, relieved that Shuichi wasn’t upset. “I was afraid you’d be mad,” Shinichi admitted softly, his voice barely above a whisper.Shuichi shook his head, his gaze softening as he looked at Shinichi. “Never,” he said firmly, his hands brushing gently against Shinichi’s sides. “I’m just… trying to process it all.”“Anyway,” Shinichi continued, his tone gaining a bit of strength, “I talked to Haibara, and she prepared another antidote. We can take it to her tomorrow. If she’s shrunk, she can return to herself. And if not… at least we’ll be ready.”Shuichi nodded, his grip tightening briefly around Shinichi as if to reassure him. “Thank you,” he said, his voice full of quiet gratitude. “For telling me. For… everything.”Shinichi smiled softly, resting his head against Shuichi’s shoulder. They stayed like that, wrapped in each other’s warmth, ready to face whatever came next together. The next morning, they were up and ready to go meet the family. They went to the hotel Sera was staying at that time. They called Shukichi to meet them there. Shinichi had the package in his hand. The hotel room was spacious but unassuming, chosen for its privacy rather than grandeur. Shuichi stood in front of the door, his expression unreadable yet taut with emotion. The morning light streaming through the hallway windows softened his sharp features. Shinichi stood beside him, his gaze steady and supportive, a quiet strength for the man who had become his world. Shukichi lingered behind them, his usual calm exterior masking the storm brewing within.Shuichi took a deep breath and knocked. Moments later, the door creaked open to reveal Mary and Masumi.Masumi’s sharp intake of breath broke the silence. “Shu-ni…” she whispered, her eyes widening in shock. Her voice wavered, a mixture of disbelief and raw emotion. She surged forward, grabbing Shuichi by the front of his shirt.“You’re alive?!” she shouted, her voice cracking. “After all these years?!”“Masumi—” Shuichi began, but she cut him off with a forceful shove to his chest.“You let us think you were dead!” Tears pricked her eyes as she pounded her fists against him. “Do you have any idea what that did to us? What it did to me?! To Mother?!”Shukichi stepped forward, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. “Masumi, stop.”Her head whipped around, eyes blazing. “You knew, didn’t you?” she accused. “You knew he was alive, and you didn’t tell me?!”Shukichi sighed heavily, his usual composure faltering. “Yes, I knew.”Masumi’s frustration boiled over. “And you didn’t think I had a right to know? You two kept this from me—”“Because it wasn’t safe!” Shuichi’s voice cut through the rising tension, his tone both firm and pained. “Masumi, if the Organization even suspected that I was alive, they would’ve come after all of you. I couldn’t risk that.”Masumi faltered, her anger giving way to hurt. “You don’t get to decide what risks I can take, Shu-ni.”Shuichi’s voice softened. “It wasn’t about trust. It was about keeping you, Shukichi, and Mother alive.”At the mention of Mary, all eyes turned to her. She had remained silent, observing the reunion with an unreadable expression. But now, as Shuichi’s gaze locked onto hers, his composure cracked.“Mother…” he murmured, his voice heavy with emotion.Mary stepped forward, her diminutive form belying the steel in her gaze. The sight of her, shrunken and fragile yet undeniably resilient, caused Shuichi to freeze. His breath hitched as he stared at the woman who had always seemed larger than life.“Is it true?” Mary asked, her voice sharp but tinged with vulnerability. “Did you fake your death to protect us?”Shuichi nodded, his throat working as he struggled to find his voice. “In a way Yes. I’m sorry, Mother. I—”Shuichi exhaled, his tone growing serious. “There were two other reasons. The first was to protect Mizunashi Rena—her real name is Hidemi Hondou. She’s a CIA agent who had infiltrated the Organization. By faking my death, we were able to convince the Organization of her loyalty and position her to provide us with critical intel.”Masumi’s eyes widened slightly. “You died to save a spy?”“No, It was more than that,” Shuichi continued. “The second reason was to dismantle the Organization itself. With me ‘out of the picture,’ they let their guard down. They made mistakes, took risks they wouldn’t have taken otherwise. It gave us the opening we needed to take them down.”Before he could finish, Mary closed the distance between them. She didn’t yell or cry but placed a hand on his cheek, her touch featherlight. “You’ve always carried the weight of the world on your shoulders, Shuichi,” she said softly. “But you didn’t have to do it alone.”Shuichi’s eyes glistened, but he didn’t let the tears fall. “I had to. It was the only way to keep you guys safe and finally have a chance at destroying them.”The raw emotion in the room was palpable. Shukichi, always the steady mediator, finally broke his silence. “Mother…” His voice cracked slightly as he looked at her, taking in her reduced form. “Why didn’t you tell us?”Mary’s expression softened. “Because it wasn’t something I wanted you to see. I didn’t want your pity or your grief.”Shinichi stepped forward, his voice breaking the moment. “We can change that.” He handed Mary a small vial. “This is the antidote for APTX 4869. If you take it, it should reverse the effects and restore you to your original form.”Mary hesitated, her gaze flicking between the vial and Shinichi. “And if it doesn’t work?”“Then we’ll find another way,” Shinichi replied with quiet determination. “But this is a start.”As Mary accepted the antidote, Masumi turned her attention to Shinichi, her sharp eyes narrowing. “You’ve been awfully quiet, Kudo-kun. And awfully close to my brother.”A teasing smirk played on her lips as she looked between Shinichi and Shuichi. “You two… you’re together, aren’t you?”Shinichi froze, a faint blush dusting his cheeks. But Shuichi’s response was immediate. He stepped forward, placing a steadying hand on Shinichi’s back. “Yes, we are,” he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for doubt. “Shinichi is --- everything I could ever ask for. He is my partner, my ally and most importantly, the love of my life. He’s stood by me through everything.”Masumi’s eyes widened briefly before a grin spread across her face. “Well, I’ll be damned. Kudo-kun snagged my big brother. I didn’t see that coming.”Shukichi chuckled, the tension in the room finally breaking. “I suppose it’s a good match. Shinichi-kun is sharp enough to keep up with you.”Masumi smirked. “Oh, definitely. Welcome to the family, Kudo.”Shinichi’s blush deepened, but he managed a small smile. “Thank you.”The room slowly filled with warmth and laughter as the family began to process the revelations and wounds of the past. Shuichi and Shinichi stayed close, their bond unshaken by the scrutiny. Whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together—stronger than ever.Through it all, Shinichi remained a steady presence at Shuichi’s side, their bond stronger than ever.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
A Week Later: The Romantic Escape
The week had been surreal for Shinichi. After everything that had happened, reacquainting himself with teenage life felt almost mundane. The JPSB, FBI, and CIA were diligently wrapping up the final threads of the organization, leaving him with rare moments of normalcy. School, friends, and even everyday conversations felt like stepping back into a world he had long left behind. Yet, his mind often drifted—to Shuichi, to their bond, and to the promise of something beyond the chaos.Shuichi, on the other hand, had been planning. He watched Shinichi carefully, noting the tension that still lingered in his shoulders despite his calm demeanor. Shinichi had faced the world with a brave face, but Shuichi wanted to give him something else—a moment just for the two of them, far from expectations, questions, or responsibilities. One evening, Shuichi appeared at the Kudo mansion with a quiet smile and an invitation. “Pack a bag,” he said. “We’re going somewhere.”Shinichi raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue. There was something in Shuichi’s tone—steady, warm, and full of intent—that made him trust whatever plans he had.
At the Lake: Stripping Away the Barriers
The lake shimmered under the soft glow of the moon, its surface reflecting the stars scattered across the sky. The quiet hum of crickets and the gentle rustle of leaves set a serene backdrop for their escape. The campsite, adorned with flickering lanterns and glowing candles, felt like a sanctuary, a world crafted just for them.Shinichi took it all in, his heart swelling with gratitude and affection. “You really went all out,” he murmured, his voice laced with awe.Shuichi stepped closer, his gaze steady and warm. “You deserve more than this,” he said softly, his voice carrying an intimacy that made Shinichi’s breath hitch. They shared a quiet dinner, their conversation flowing as naturally as the breeze. But as the stars grew brighter and the world around them fell into a deeper stillness, Shuichi’s expression turned serious.“Shinichi,” Shuichi began, reaching out to take Shinichi’s hand. His thumb brushed over the back of it in soft, grounding strokes. “I need you to know how much you mean to me. I’ve loved you for so long—your brilliance, your courage, your heart. I want to be the person you can always come home to, no matter what.”Shinichi felt a lump form in his throat, his chest tightening with the raw emotion in Shuichi’s words. “I love you too,” he whispered, his voice trembling but resolute. “I want to be yours—completely. I want to give you everything, Shuichi, because you’ve given me more than I ever thought I deserved.”Their lips met in a kiss that started tender but quickly deepened as their emotions surged. Shuichi’s hands found their way to Shinichi’s waist, pulling him closer, while Shinichi’s fingers tangled in Shuichi’s hair, anchoring himself to the moment. The kiss grew more passionate, their breaths mingling as they explored each other with a fervour that had been building for months. When they finally broke apart, their foreheads rested together, their breaths heavy. Shuichi smiled, a playful glint in his eyes. “How about a swim?”Shinichi laughed softly; his cheeks warm. “Only if you’re joining me.”Shuichi’s hands moved to the hem of Shinichi’s shirt, his touch slow and deliberate. He lifted it over Shinichi’s head, his fingers grazing over bare skin in a way that sent shivers down Shinichi’s spine. Shinichi, emboldened by the moment, reached for Shuichi’s shirt, his fingers fumbling slightly as he unbuttoned it. One by one, the buttons gave way, revealing Shuichi’s toned chest.Their eyes locked as Shinichi slid the shirt off Shuichi’s shoulders, his hands lingering on the warmth of his skin. Shuichi’s hands moved to Shinichi’s waistband next, his touch careful, almost reverent. He knelt slightly, sliding Shinichi’s pants down, his fingers brushing against his thighs. Shinichi followed suit, his movements slower, his fingers tracing the lines of Shuichi’s hips as he worked to undress him completely.By the time they were both bare, their bodies bathed in moonlight, the intimacy between them had deepened. Without a word, Shuichi took Shinichi’s hand and led him to the water.
A Swim Like No Other
The lake was cool against their skin, a stark contrast to the heat that seemed to simmer between them. The night air was still, save for the soft ripples they created as they waded deeper. Their laughter, light and unrestrained, echoed across the water as they splashed each other, playfully breaking the quiet.Shinichi swam closer to Shuichi, his movements slowing as he reached him. Without hesitation, his hands found their way to Shuichi’s shoulders, and he let his body press gently against Shuichi’s, their chests brushing. Shuichi responded instinctively, his arm sliding around Shinichi’s waist to steady him, drawing him closer until there was no space left between them. The contact was electric. The water might have cooled their skin, but the warmth radiating between them was impossible to ignore. Neither was shy of their body’s reaction; it was a shared acknowledgment, unspoken yet deeply understood. Shinichi’s breath hitched as he felt Shuichi’s arousal against him, a mirrored response stirring within himself.Shuichi’s hand moved, tracing the line of Shinichi’s spine beneath the water, his touch firm yet tender. “You feel this too,” Shuichi murmured, his voice low and filled with a quiet intensity.Shinichi’s lips parted, but no words came. Instead, he leaned forward, pressing a slow, deliberate kiss to Shuichi’s jaw, then trailing down to his neck. His lips lingered, the warmth of his breath sending shivers through Shuichi despite the heat pooling between them.Shuichi tilted his head back, granting Shinichi access as his free hand came up to cradle the back of Shinichi’s head, his fingers tangling in damp strands of hair. Their lips met again, this time deeper, slower—a kiss that spoke of desire but also trust, a need not just for physical closeness but for the connection they shared. The water lapped gently around them, but it was a distant sensation. All they could feel was the heat of their entwined bodies, the rhythm of their breathing, and the intensity of the moment that bound them together.Shuichi’s forehead pressed against Shinichi’s as their lips parted briefly. “You’re incredible,” Shuichi whispered, his voice rough but sincere.Shinichi smiled, his cheeks flushed, his hands resting on Shuichi’s chest, feeling the steady thrum of his heartbeat. “And you’re mine,” he replied, his voice steady and sureUnable to take the intense desire anymore, They return back to the campsite charged, every step an unspoken agreement, every glance heavy with the uncontainable pull between them. The cool night air did little to temper the heat simmering between their bodies, the glistening droplets of water clinging to their skin as they moved in sync, drawn by a force neither could resist any longer. When they arrived, the faint glow of the dying campfire cast flickering shadows across the clearing. The soft crackle of embers filled the silence, a rhythmic counterpoint to the rapid beat of their hearts. Shuichi turned to Shinichi, his breath catching as he took in the younger man’s flushed cheeks and slightly parted lips, the undeniable trust shining in his eyes.Shuichi stepped closer, his hands settling on Shinichi’s waist, pulling him in with an urgency that had been held back for too long. “We tried,” Shuichi murmured, his voice low, almost teasing. “But I can’t wait anymore.”Shinichi’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. “Neither can I,” he whispered, his voice carrying a mix of anticipation and certainty.Their lips met again, this time fiercer, their restraint unraveling as Shuichi’s hands roamed up Shinichi’s back, fingers brushing against the soft damp skim. Shinichi’s hands slid into Shuichi’s hair, tugging him closer, their breaths mingling as the kiss deepened, raw and consuming.Shuichi broke the kiss only long enough to guide Shinichi to the blanket near the fire. He knelt first, pulling Shinichi down with him. His movements were deliberate but tender, as though memorizing every moment. As Shinichi reclined, his head resting against the soft material, Shuichi followed, leaning over him, his weight braced on one arm.Their eyes met, and for a heartbeat, everything stilled. The world faded, leaving just the two of them and the depth of their connection. Shuichi’s free hand cupped Shinichi’s face, his thumb brushing lightly across his cheekbone. “You’re incredible,” Shuichi murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “Do you know that?”Shinichi reached up, his hand resting over Shuichi’s, anchoring them both. “So are you,” he replied, his voice steady but soft. “I trust you. With everything.”Something flickered in Shuichi’s gaze—an intensity that spoke of reverence and unspoken promises. He leaned down, their foreheads touching briefly before capturing Shinichi’s lips in a kiss that was both grounding and electrifyingShinichi’s hands moved instinctively, one tangling in Shuichi’s hair, the other sliding over the curve of his shoulder. His touch was tentative at first, but as the kiss deepened, he grew bolder, pulling Shuichi closer until their bodies were flush against each other.Shuichi’s lips left Shinichi’s for a moment, trailing down the side of his neck. He kissed a path over the soft curve of Shinichi’s collarbone, his breath warm and steady against his skin. Shinichi gasped softly, his fingers tightening in Shuichi’s hair as waves of unfamiliar but welcome sensations coursed through him.Shuichi’s hands began to roam, his fingers tracing over Shinichi’s bare skin with deliberate care. They skimmed down his sides, his touch feather-light but electrifying. Shinichi’s body responded instinctively, arching slightly into Shuichi’s touch, his legs parting just enough to accommodate Shuichi’s weight.“Shinichi,” Shuichi murmured against his skin, his voice low and filled with emotion. “You’re incredible.”Shinichi’s breath hitched, his heart racing as he met Shuichi’s gaze. “I want this,” he whispered, his voice trembling but sure. “I want you.”Shuichi’s hand slid lower, resting on Shinichi’s hip as he leaned back down, capturing his lips once more. The kiss was hungrier this time, filled with the weight of all they’d held back and all they were about to share. Their bodies pressed closer, every touch, every movement bringing them closer to the edge of something they had long desired but never dared to take before.Their kiss deepened, the passion between them building with each touch. Shuichi’s hands trailed along Shinichi’s back, steady and reassuring, as if anchoring them both in the moment. The cool night air contrasted with the heat of their bodies, adding a tantalizing edge to their closeness. But then, in a sudden but fluid motion, Shinichi pushed against Shuichi’s chest, guiding him to shift. The surprise flashed in Shuichi’s eyes as he found himself lying back on the soft blanket, the starry sky above framing Shinichi’s determined expression.“Shinichi?” Shuichi’s voice was soft, tinged with surprise but also a trace of amusement.Shinichi didn’t answer immediately, his hands resting lightly on Shuichi’s chest. He leaned down, capturing Shuichi’s lips in a kiss that was slower, deeper, and brimming with intent. When he finally pulled back, he met Shuichi’s gaze, his cheeks flushed but his voice steady.“I want this,” Shinichi said, his voice firm yet filled with emotion. “I want to show you how much you mean to me. Let me.”Shuichi blinked, the surprise in his expression softening into something deeper—love, admiration, and an unspoken respect for Shinichi’s strength. He nodded silently, his trust in Shinichi absolute.Shinichi’s fingers trailed across Shuichi’s collarbone, down the planes of his chest, lingering just enough to draw a shiver from the older man. Slowly, deliberately, he kissed along the line of Shuichi’s jaw, down to his neck, savouring the warmth of his skin and the subtle, pleased hum that escaped Shuichi’s lips. The surprise still lingered in Shuichi’s features, his body reacting instinctively to Shinichi’s confident yet tender movements. His hands hovered momentarily, unsure of where to rest now that Shinichi was in control. Shinichi noticed and smiled, guiding Shuichi’s hands to his own hips before continuing his exploration.“You are breathtaking,” Shinichi murmured, his breath warm against Shuichi’s ear. “I love you.”Shuichi let out a soft exhale, his hands tightening slightly on Shinichi’s waist. “You’re full of surprises, Shinichi,” he whispered, his voice carrying both affection and heat.Shinichi grinned, his confidence bolstered by the reaction. “You’ll find I have a lot of those,” he teased lightly, before leaning down to kiss Shuichi again.Their lips met with renewed fervour, the kiss growing deeper and more passionate as Shinichi’s hands traced along Shuichi’s sides, memorizing every inch of him. He shifted slightly, his body pressing flush against Shuichi’s, their breaths mingling in the space between them.Shinichi’s movements were deliberate yet tender, a perfect blend of boldness and care. As he leaned into Shuichi, their legs intertwined, and his hands roamed freely, drawing quiet, breathless sounds from the man beneath him. Shuichi’s initial surprise melted into complete surrender, his trust in Shinichi evident in the way he let himself relax entirely under his partner’s touch.“Shinichi…” Shuichi’s voice was a low, strained whisper, his tone filled with both longing and love.“Shhh,” Shinichi whispered against his lips, his tone playful yet deeply affectionate. “Let me show you how much I love you.”Shinichi’s confidence and passion ignited a fire within Shuichi that he hadn’t entirely expected. Every deliberate touch, every kiss that Shinichi pressed to his skin, sent a surge of emotions coursing through him—love, admiration, desire—all interwoven into something that felt nearly overwhelming.Shinichi leaned down again, his lips brushing against Shuichi’s, his hands roaming further, more assured. His kisses deepened, each one a promise, a declaration of his feelings. But Shuichi, unable to remain passive any longer, felt his restraint snap like a thread pulled too tight. In one fluid motion, he tightened his grip on Shinichi’s hips, guiding the younger man slightly upward before flipping them both over in a controlled yet sudden movement. Now it was Shinichi’s turn to be surprised. He gasped softly as his back met the blanket, his wide eyes locking with Shuichi’s. The older man hovered above him, his hands braced on either side of Shinichi’s head, the raw intensity in his gaze enough to make Shinichi’s breath hitch.“Shuichi—” Shinichi began, his voice a mix of surprise and something deeper, more primal.Shuichi cut him off with a kiss, deep and all-consuming, leaving no room for words. His lips moved against Shinichi’s with a fervour that bordered on desperation, as though trying to pour every ounce of his love into the kiss. When he finally pulled back, his breathing was heavy, his voice low and rough with emotion.“You’re amazing, Shinichi,” Shuichi murmured, his forehead resting lightly against Shinichi’s. “But you drive me crazy when you take control like that. I couldn’t hold back anymore.”Shinichi’s cheeks flushed, his lips curving into a soft smile. “I wanted to show you how much I—”“I know,” Shuichi interrupted gently, his thumb brushing against Shinichi’s cheek. “And you did. But now... let me show you.”Before Shinichi could respond, Shuichi’s lips found his neck, tracing a path of kisses down to his collarbone. His hands moved with deliberate intent, exploring Shinichi’s body as though committing every inch to memory. The care and reverence in his touch made Shinichi’s heart race, his breath coming faster with each passing second.Shinichi’s hands instinctively found their way to Shuichi’s shoulders, gripping lightly as his body arched into Shuichi’s touch. The older man’s movements were both commanding and tender, a perfect balance of strength and affection that left Shinichi feeling utterly adored.Their legs tangled as Shuichi settled between them again, his kisses growing deeper and more passionate. He paused for a moment, his gaze locking with Shinichi’s, the intensity in his eyes matched only by the love that radiated from them.“I love you, Shinichi,” Shuichi said, his voice steady but thick with emotion. “With everything I am. I’ll never stop loving you.”Shinichi’s breath caught, his chest tightening at the sheer sincerity in Shuichi’s words. He reached up, his fingers threading through Shuichi’s hair as he pulled him down into another searing kiss.“I love you too,” Shinichi whispered against Shuichi’s lips, his voice trembling with emotion. “More than I ever thought possible.”The quiet night wrapped around them, their bodies moving in perfect harmony as they gave themselves to each other completely. Shuichi’s earlier loss of control had only deepened their bond, the passion between them blooming into something even more profound—a love that felt infinite, unbreakable.Under the canopy of stars, they made love for the first time—a moment filled with trust, passion, and a profound sense of belonging. There was no fear, no hesitation, only the certainty that they were exactly where they were meant to be.As the night deepened, they held each other close, their bodies entwined, their hearts beating in perfect harmony. For the first time in years, Shinichi felt truly whole, and with Shuichi by his side, he knew he always would be.
