Geum-ja had invited everybody over to her house for Christmas. It was winter time, and she had not seen her non biological family in a long time.
And this year they would all be together. No one needed to get presents. They’d all just eat and have fun. Right now it was 2pm. Her son was hanging up the last party streamers she wanted. When one of her favorite people came through the door. Hyun-ji, and her girlfriend.
“Oh my dear, it’s so good to see you!” Geum-ja shouted. Putting each hand on the side of her face. “Did you have fun in Thailand?” She asked looking at her with a welcoming smile.
“I did…me and young mi got to see a lot of fun places…and we have a nice house.” Hyun-ji said, smiling back at her.
“Hello hyun, Young mi.” Yong-sik said, waving at his friends. Hyun-ji waved her hand back at him. Young mi walked into the kitchen. Hyun-ji following after.
“Any of you girls wanna help cook? Just for fun huh?” Geum said. “I will mother.” Young mi smiled. Since they were all close. Everyone would call her mother.
Around 4pm Gihun showed up. Holding his daughter. He had also came in with his boyfriend. Young-il.
“My boys how are you, and is this your little girl.” Geum said, her arms opened wide. Young mi was cooking, while hyun-ji was talking to Yong-sik.
“Hi miss…” Ga-yeong said looking up at her. Gihun smiled. “Thanks for letting me bring her….its her first Christmas with me you know.” Gihun said. Geum smiled, she always wanted family’s close together. she completely understood.
“No bigge Gihun, family is better together Yes?” She said. Then reaching her hand up to pinch Young-ils cheek. “You’re getting more handsome il.” She said with her old lady laugh.
“Thank you ma’am.” Young-il said politely. Gihun put Ga-yeong down. “If you wait long enough dear the baby will be here.” Geum said smiling. Ga-yeong smiled nervously running off into the living room.
“We are just cooking now, help is appreciated.” Geum smiled. “I will help.” Young-il said. “Are you making a lot of food Ma? You don’t need this much help..” Yong-sik said entering the kitchen. Gihun moved out of way going into the living room.
“A lot of food for sure.” Geum laughed a bit after she spoke.
During a hour later, park jung and dae-ho hand. Gihun clapping hands with park jung. And dae-ho smiling from behind. Soon then Kim junhee. And her boyfriend, plus their baby.
“Oh my goodness, the baby looks so cute!” Geum whisper yelled, her finger caressing the baby’s cheek. “She really is cute isn’t she.” Myung said, his hand wrapping around Junhees waist. Kissing the side of her head.
“Thank you for inviting us ma’am.” She said smiling. The older woman waved her hand in the air. “No need to thank me dear, come come into the living room. Dinner is just about done.” She said smiling.
After dinner was done, everyone sat at the table. Her and her son. There marine friends. Junhee and her baby, and Myung. Gihun and his daughter, plus his boyfriend. Then hyun-ji, and her lover as well. She couldn’t have been more happier to have them all here. There was so much food.
Turkey, ham, traditional Korean food, rice, vegetables. Various drinks. Geum stood up.
“I’d like to say something.” She said. Everyone listened to her.
“I’m glad to have us all here. Especially on this holiday. I love every single one of you. As a huge family. I’m glad to have met all of you. And given birth to my actual son. My sweet yong-sik. And I’m just so happy to see you all. To spend today with you. Now please eat, I took so long setting up.” She said. Her voice gentle and kind. Everyone ate, shared laughs. A few kisses. Taking turns to see and hold the baby.
When the day parted they gave hugs and said goodbyes. Geum felt sad once they had gone. They were truly her family. They brought her the most goodest of happiness. And she wouldn’t have much time left. Hopefully she can enjoy the next holiday with them to, her big family.
