Queen Frostine was discussing the presentation of her lover to the people with her advisor/mother figure, Gramma Nutt.“My dear, you cannot expect him to give you what you want. With his low rank, he can only provide you so much. The citizens of Candyland would never accept him as your consort.”“But what if they let me show them, Gramma? Then, they’d be able to look past his status and see him for his worth! His mind, heart, soul, all of the things I can’t help but fall in love with.”Gramma Nutt simply shook her head sadly at Queen Frostine.“My dear, maybe if you were just a princess, you could make them see that. But, the people have a Queen right now, and they expect their Queen to make solid decisions, not flights of foolish fancy. I know, as you do, that he is a fine, charming young man, who could rise to the occasion if needed, but the people simply will not trust him. You need to understand that above all else.”Queen Frostine knew that Gramma Nutt was speaking nothing but the truth but didn’t want to accept the hard facts quite yet. She reflected on Gramma’s thoughts as she bid her farewell. They’ll see. Surely, my citizens, the very peoples after mine own heart, won’t be so blinded by status to refute such a golden soul. They cannot possibly be so blind as to miss the honest light that shines in his eyes. How refreshing his speech. How soothing his presence. How sweet his disposition. No! She shook her head. There is no way they can refute him. There is no way they could deny my sweet Mr. Mint.
