***Day 1***
Christmas had just past and the air was especially chilly in the week leading up to New Years. The five members of Roselia waited by the curb, their instruments and luggage piled around them. Just as their toes were going numb, they caught the first sight of it. A sleek, black tour bus, gleaming in the sunrise. Five pairs of jaws dropped as the vehicle slowed to a stop in front of them. There was no mistaking the thorn encircled logo displayed on the side. Roselia. Since they first formed, the girls had poured their energy and souls into their music. From a no-name armature band to nationally recognised musicians, this tour marked a major change in tides. Their first week-long tour which ends with them headlining one of the biggest New Year’s music festival in Japan. The girls couldn’t believe their ears when they heard all the famous names they’ll be sharing the stage with. On top of it all, the biggest surprise had just rolled up right in front of them.   “Wow!” Lisa was the first to regain her voice, already pulling out her phone for a picture. “This is amazing! I can’t believe we get our own tour bus!”  “Guess we won’t be squished into Harumi-san’s van anymore,” Ako grinned. The transition to a proper tour felt like a dream coming true. As if on cue, the bus door slid open and a cheerful, brown-haired woman hopped out. “Good morning! Glad to see you all made it on time, as always,” Harumi greeted the wide-eyed faces. “It’s really big,” Rinko clutched her keyboard case tighter as she took in the bus, their new home for the next six days. “You must have worked really hard to get this for us Harumi-san. Thank you.” “Don’t worry about it,” the manager let out a bashful chuckle, “Had to pull a few strings, but since you girls will be performing so many nights in a row, you deserve to travel comfortably.” “It does look practical,” Sayo agreed. Her expression remained calmer than the rest, though no one missed the small sparkle in her eyes. “We’ll finally have enough room for all our equipment and space to rest between performances.”  Lisa nudged her. “Come on, Sayo. Show a little excitement!”  “I am excited,” Sayo quipped back.  Before the two could squabble further, Yukina stepped forward to face her bandmates. “This is a big step toward what we’ve worked for. Let’s make the most of it.”  “Yeah, let’s go inside and check it out!” Ako cheered, already dashing inside with her drumsticks raised in both hands. “Ako-chan, don’t break anything,” Rinko rushed after her. Gasps rang out as the band climbed aboard. The interior looked like something they’ve only seen in magazines. The main area featured a small kitchen and a comfortable looking lounge area with a table and built-in sofas. “We even have bunk beds!” Ako’s cries echoed from the rear of the bus. “Dibs on the top bunk!” “Ako, you can’t just call dibs. This has to be fair for everyone,” Yukina objected, already hurrying over to her bandmate. While the two explored the bunks, Sayo pulled out a tablet, motioning for Rinko to join her at the table. “Let’s go over the itinerary. I want to make sure we have everything planned perfectly.”  Rinko sat down beside her, already pulling out a notebook and pen, ready to take notes. It seemed student council habits die hard. “Do you two have to dive into work the second we’re on board?” Lisa teased, wrapping her arms around Sayo’s shoulders from behind. “We just got here. Relax a little~”  “I’ll relax when we’re prepared,” Sayo replied though a faint blush crept onto her cheeks from the way Lisa leaned in closer. Despite the guitarist’s her words, Rinko hid a smile as Sayo placed down the tablet. Although she admired her bandmate’s dedication, Sayo was no doubt a workaholic, a habit they were all gradually trying to ease her out of. After a few more attempts to steer her away from work talk, she and Ako managed to engage Sayo in a discussion about NFO’s latest event. Meanwhile, Harumi slid into the seat opposite Yukina. “Yukina-san, about that new song you mentioned. Do you think we’ll get to hear it on this tour?”  Yukina stiffened, her fingers curling slightly on her lap. “Although we’ve rehearsed it sufficiently, the lyrics are quite… personal,” her eyes flickered away. “They reflect how I feel about my… my partners.” This tour was significant for Roselia in many ways, but it also marked the first time they’re travelling together since romance blossomed within the group. Despite all odds, Yukina, Sayo, Lisa, and Rinko found themselves in a polyamorous relationship. It’d taken a lot of figuring out and even more patience following many mix-and-match dates. However, the four now realised they were the happiest all together. Initially, they were afraid of how Ako would react to the news, but the younger girl had been ecstatic. But while their bandmate was happy for then, Yukina couldn’t be so sure everyone would be so accepting… “In truth, I’m concerned how our fans may react if we perform the song,” Yukina’s gaze flickered to her open notebook. Harumi nodded in understanding. She was one of the few people outside of close friends and family that knew of the band members’ complex relationship. “You know, your songs have always resonated with people because of their honesty. But I also know how daunting this is. Especially with all the recent online speculations about relationships in Roselia,” she rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly.” While some fans may support your more… unique dynamic, there’s also a chance others might disapprove.” Yukina glanced toward the table where Sayo and Ako were arguing about something videogame related. Meanwhile, Lisa seemed to be having fun braiding the pianist’s silky hair. The sight made her heart ache with both affection and fear.  “I’ll… think about it,” Yukina said finally. “I don’t want personal matters to get in between our fans’ appreciation for music.” “Take your time,” Harumi patted her shoulder. “But don’t underestimate how much everyone supports Roselia.”  As the manager left to check on other arrangements, Yukina let out a slow breath. Her fingers brushed against the messy scribbles in her notebook. Almost nothing in the world scared her. Not singing in front of thousands, not death, not even thunder, despite the way Lisa would scream and dive into her bed. But the thought of sharing such a significant song to the world… it made her heart race. The song wasn’t just personal, it was a confession. One that could either strengthen her bond with the girls she loves or risk everything they’ve built.  Meanwhile, Lisa sat cross-legged on one of the lounge seats, her knitting needles clicking expertly as she worked on her latest project. A deep navy scarf. Beside her, Rinko was reading a book, occasionally glancing over to admire her girlfriend’s progress.  “That looks beautiful,” Rinko offered, admiring the intricate pattern. “I wish I could sew nearly as fast as you can knit.” Lisa beamed, her hands never stopping. “Aw, thanks, Rinko~ I find it helps me relax, you know? Plus, it’s fun to see everyone’s reactions when I give them something.” She proudly held up her work. “I’m making Yukina another scarf since she keeps giving hers away to stray cats she sees.”  “It’s winter. Those poor cats looked cold,” Yukina called from across the bus where she was frantically scribbling in her lyric book. Lisa giggled, “I know, I know, that’s what made me fall in love with you, baby. But can’t you try to keep yourself warm for once? Speaking of Yukina,” she leaned closer to Rinko with a whisper, “Did I ever tell you about the time she got stuck in a tree trying to rescue a cat? She was so serious about it, but the cat was totally fine and just jumped right down. Yukina was stuck up there for an hour till I found a ladder!”  Rinko covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. “That’s adorable.”  “Lisa please, no one needs to know that,” Yukina glared half-heartedly. “Ne, aren’t we all partners?” Lisa wore a smug grin. “It’s only fair considering all the stories Hina share with us about Sayo.” Sayo looked horrified. “She does what now??” With that, more embarrassing stories were shared, drawing reddened cheeks all around. Until Ako groaned dramatically as another twangy country song came up on the playlist. “Why, Yukina-san? Why do you like this stuff?”  “It has soul,” Yukina glanced up calmly. ”Perhaps you simply lack the maturity to appreciate it.”  “Hey!” Ako crossed her arms. “I like rock music! That has soul!”  Lisa laughed as she set her knitting aside. “Yukina, you might be the only person I know who can unironically defend country music. And somehow make it sound sophisticated.”  “I think I have to agree with Ako-chan,” Rinko chimed in awkwardly. “It’s... an acquired taste.”  Ako grinned at the support, though her mood dimmed slightly as she glanced around at the others. Their light teasing and the way their gaze lingered on each other felt so natural she sometimes felt like she was intruding on something. Lisa noticed Ako go quiet and reached out to ruffle her hair. “Come on, don’t let Yukina’s weird music taste get you down.”  “Lisa-neee, stop treating me like a little kid,” Ako squirmed out of her grasp. Still, a small part of her felt grateful to not be forgotten. Sayo, who had been silently observing, spoke up firmly. “We should all contribute to the playlist. It’s only fair. And that means adding things besides pop,” she gave Lisa a pointed look. Lisa gasped in mock offense. “What’s wrong with pop? We all know you secretly love it~”  “I do not,” Sayo turned away though her slight blush betrayed her.  The bus erupted in laughter. Despite the fun they have being together like this, Ako still couldn’t help feeling like an outsider. The other had grown so close ever since they started dating. Their teasing and affections flowed in ways she only wished to be a part of. It wasn’t that they ignored her, far from it. Lisa always ruffled her hair affectionately, Yukina occasionally gave her stern but supportive advice, and Rinko was still her best friend, checking in with her during rehearsals. They still gamed together at night although less frequently now. Even Sayo, in her own formal way, became like a mentor figure. Still, being the youngest sometimes made her feel... separate. While she was happy for her friend’s relationship, at times like these, Ako couldn’t help but feel like a fifth wheel. This was also her first time being away from home for a full week, and nerves were already stirring in her stomach. Yet, none of the other seemed to feel the same pressure. It only made her wonder if she was being childish. If they’d keep treating her like a little kid, tagging along, if she told the truth. Ako listened in as Lisa and Rinko continued to gossip about their dense girlfriends. Yukina reluctantly added a more acceptable song to the playlist while Sayo stood and stretched. “Does anyone want tea? We still have a long way to go.”  A chorus of voices rose up. Ako watched them all, her chest tightening. Maybe, one day, she’d feel comfortable enough to share what she was feeling.
…
By the time the bus arrived at the first city on their tour, the band buzzed with energy. “We made it!” Lisa pressed her face up against the window. “First concert, here we go!” “Not yet, we still have a lot of preparations to complete,” Yukina remined her. Even so, their typically composed vocalist seemed a little brighter as she stood to stretch. Ako was the first one off the bus, her eyes darted everywhere at once. “Wow, look at that building! It’s so tall!” she exclaimed, already dashing off toward a glass skyscraper gleaming in the distance. “Ako!” Sayo cried in exasperation. “We don’t have time for sightseeing!” “She’s always so curious,” Rinko chuckled as she watched the guitarist drag their sheepish drummer back to the group. Yukina descended next, her movements graceful as she scanned their surroundings with a leaderly air. Or as much air as she could muster considering they were just standing in the hotel car park. Lisa was last to stumble off the bus. She was weighed down by no less than three bags, one of which they all knew must be all skincare products. “Lisa,” Sayo groaned. “Did you pack your entire house?” “Not my entire house,” Lisa slapped her arm playfully, “Just the essentials~” “So essentially your entire room then,” Yukina deadpanned, staring at the massive pile of luggage. “I told you to pack light this time.” Lisa grinned unapologetically. “You don’t know when we might need all this. What if someone has a make-up emergency? Or you know how grumpy Sayo gets when she’s hungry.” “No I don’t,” Sayo grumbled but Lisa was already shoving one of the smaller bags into her arms. “Here, take this. It’s all snacks.” Muttering something under her breath, Sayo slung it over her shoulder before grabbing her own bag. Yukina resigned herself to helping as well, taking one of her girlfriend’s matching red suitcases. Her minimalist sensibilities always clashing with Lisa’s maximalist tendencies when they travelled. But after many years, she’d grown to expect it, packing light with just a single duffle bag to compensate. The group headed inside the hotel with Harumi leading the way with her clipboard and boundless enthusiasm. After a few minutes chatting with the receptionist, she returned with a bright smile. “Alright, everyone, I’ve got the room keys sorted! You’re all in adjoining rooms on the same floor, so not getting into trouble now,” she winked, making the teens all shuffle awkwardly. “Yukina and Sayo, you’re sharing tonight, Lisa and Rinko have the other room. And Ako, lucky you, you’re sharing a twin with me!” Ako nodded, trying not to let her disappointment show. While she understood the arrangement considering the others were all dating, it sometimes felt like she was the odd one out. At least Harumi’s optimism helped ease the sting. In their room, Yukina unpacked her single bag in under a minute while Sayo lingered by the door. She was still adjusting to the idea of sharing a room with Yukina. Especially since she didn’t expect to be sharing a double bed. “Are you just going to stand there?” Yukina finally raised an eyebrow towards her. Sayo coughed lightly but shuffled inside, setting her bag down on the other side of the bed. “I was just... giving you some space to unpack.” Yukina’s lips quirked slightly. “Are you always this considerate?” “This is all new to me, alright?” Sayo pulled out her planner and pretended to bury her nose in it. In the other room, Lisa had already claimed half the space with her explosion of belongings. Though amused, Rinko didn’t really mind. Whatever made Lisa comfortable… even if she did worry about tripping over a dozen items if she had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. “You really do pack… thoroughly,” Rinko commented, carefully folding her own clothes and placing them in the hotel drawers. “I like to be prepared~” Lisa winked, sprawling her piles of skincare products and snacks across every surface. “Ako’s a growing girl so she needs to be fed. Besides, you’ll appreciate all these lotions once our skins break out with the upcoming show stress.” “You always take such good care of us, Imai-san,” Rinko shook her head fondly. “Of course! How else would you know I love you?” Lisa suddenly wrapped her arms around Rinko from behind, making the pianist giggle. Back in the other room, the mood was far more awkward. Yukina sat on her side of the bed, an invisible line drawn between them as she watched Sayo fuss with her things. The guitarist had already zipped and unzipped her guitar case four times. “You don’t need to be so tense.” Sayo stiffened. “I’m not tense.” “You are,” Yukina insisted. “Sayo, what is bothering you so much?” Sayo hesitated, then sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed. “I suppose it’s just… we’ve never shared a room before… alone.” For a moment, the air was quiet as they let the words sink in. “And you’re afraid something is going to happen?” “What? N-no! I don’t expect anything like that!” Sayo spluttered, turning crimson. “It’s just… a big step.” Yukina regarded her for a moment longer before her expression softened. “I know it’s different, not all being together, but you are important to me too, Sayo. If there is anything I can do to make you more comfortable, tell me.” “I don’t know,” Sayo bit her lip. “I suppose I am just worried about doing something wrong. Or being awkward now that it’s just the two of us. Well, more awkward.” “While I am not Lisa, I can try to crack a joke to lighten the mood.” “Can you?” “Knock-knock.” Sayo hesitated, staring at her vocalist as if she was a foreign alien. Finally, she gave in. “Who’s… there?” “Purr.” “Purr who?” “Purr-sonally, I look forward to spending tonight with you.” Sayo’s lip quirked upwards despite every attempt to resist. “That was terrible. Although… I guess you’re right. I’m sorry for worrying you.” Yukina crossed the room and placed a hand on her shoulder. “We’re partners, Sayo. Your worries are mine. Just like when we’re on stage, if you come across a problem, we will find a solution together.” The straightforwardness took Sayo aback, but it was also so Yukina-like she couldn’t help but smile. “Thank you. I promise I will.” A new sense of comfort hung between them. At least until the door suddenly burst open. Lisa barged in with a mischievous grin with Rinko trailing close behind. “Lisa, can you not knock?” Sayo felt like she was back home again, dealing with her twin’s constant interruptions. “Aw, don’t be so grumpy,” Lisa kissed her on the cheek. “You’ll miss me tonight when I’m gone~” Sayo’s face turned a deep red. “W-Would you stop with the PDA?” “We’re in a hotel room. Besides, Yukina doesn’t mind it, do you?” Yukina’s shrugged noncommittally. “As long as we’re alone.” Lisa skipped over and gave her a quick kiss as well. Rinko sat down the bed, watching the scene with a smile. “Fufufu, It’s nice that we can all be together like this.” “You’re right. It’s our first tour since our agreement,” Sayo smiled though this quickly turned into a groan as Lisa draped her full weight over her shoulders. “Just say since we started dating! No need to make it sound so formal,” Lisa laughed as she toyed with strands of her girlfriend’s teal hair. “I do agree with Sayo that it was a good decision,” Yukina sat down beside Rinko, letting their knees brush. “Yes, back when we were going on all those dates, I couldn’t decide who I wanted to be with the most,” the pianist admitted. “I’m just happy I didn’t have to choose between you all,” Lisa flopped down across all their laps, pulling a disgruntled Sayo down with her. “Things just wouldn’t be the same as they are now~” Just then, they saw a hint of purple peeking through the door. “I heard your voices in here,” Ako hesitated, as if unsure if she was intruding. “Come in Ako-chan,” Rinko patted an empty spot beside her. “How is your room?” Ako’s face lit up before plopping down beside her friend. “It’s really cool! The bathtub is massive, and they even give you bath robes and slippers to change into!” Her enthusiasm faltered for a moment. “I miss being with all of you though.” Lisa moved away from Sayo, to give Ako a playful squeeze. “Cheer up~ You’ve got Harumi as your roommate. That’s prime entertainment, you’ll get the first scoop of everything that happens on tour!” Ako giggled and everyone could see her spirits were lifted. Suddenly, Yukina paused. “Has anyone been keeping track of time? I believe we’re meant to do our soundcheck at three.” “This is why we need a schedule!”
…
The venue was alive with energy as the audience began to stream in. Soundcheck had gone smoothly and now, all that was left was to wait. In the backstage area, Rinko gripped her dress tightly. She could hear the roar of the waiting crowd and the footsteps of crew members scurrying round to get everything ready. Ever observant, Lisa caught the slight tremor in the pianist’s hands. She stepped away from the others and gently touched Rinko’s arm. “Hi Rinko” she spoke quietly to not draw attention. “You okay?” Rinko instinctively started to nod but then stopped. This was Lisa. She could always trust Lisa to figure out when something was wrong. Instead, she shook her head slowly, her gaze dropped to the floor. “It’s just… a lot. There are more people here to see us than on our last tour.” Familiar with her girlfriend’s anxiety, Lisa led Rinko a way to a quieter corner where they could talk comfortably. “I get it, first shows are always the most nerve-wracking,” she gave Rinko’s hands a squeeze. “But we’ve got this! You’re never alone on stage.” Rinko’s lips twitched into a small smile. “Thank you, Imai-san, you always know how to make you feel better.” “Well, I’d feel better if you called me by my first name~” the gyaru teased. “Maybe soon,” Rinko gave her hand a squeeze in return. “I just need… a little more time.” Lisa pulled her close. “Take all the time you need, baby. With this, or anything else. And if it gets overwhelming again, just give me the signal. I’ll come pull you out.” The pianist nodded, melting into embrace. As always, Lisa seemed to know exactly what she needed. With a final kiss on the forehead, the two returned to the buzzle of last-minute preparations. Meanwhile, Yukina sat in the wings with their setlist, absently flipping through it as if she didn’t already have it memorised. She was so focused on getting into the right headspace that she didn’t notice someone come up behind her. “You forgot this,” Lisa plopped a hat onto her head, a forgotten piece of her costume. “I found it in the dressing room. Yukina blinked up sheepishly. “Ah… so that’s where it went.” “What would you do without me?” Lisa sighed as she gathered up all the other items strewn about, knowing her girlfriend will need on stage. Yukina was a creative spirit at the best of times but, at the price of being a disorganised airhead during the rest. “I would manage,” Yukina replied coolly, “Though it is easier with you here.” Before Lisa could respond, a voice from the doorway cut in. “Co-dependent much?” Sayo’s tone was light but pointed. “You know I don’t mind,” Lisa nudged Yukina playfully. “Taking care of her gives me a sense of purpose.” Sayo chuckled. “I’m sure it does. I’m just saying maybe Yukina should start learning to take care of herself. Right now, she can’t even leave her dressing room without you fussing after her like a mother hen.” Yukina flinched. “I do rely on her too much.” “It’s okay,” Lisa rubbed her back before shooting Sayo a small glare. “But if you want, we can all help you to be more organised. Isn’t that right, Sayo?” “Yes, mom,” Sayo smirked before slipping past to set up her guitar. While the childhood friends’ dynamic remained an ongoing joke, neither Lisa nor Yukina minded. They’d long found comfort in this rhythm and without it, Roselia won’t have functioned till today. … The concert was a roaring success. They all performed flawlessly, indicative of the weeks of preparation they’d put in. Yet, there was nothing more satisfying than watching the fan’s exhilaration as they closed with a groundbreaking encore. Still buzzing with post-show excitement, Harumi whisked them off to a restaurant to celebrate. “Dinners on me!” she announced as the girls shuffled into a booth. As the menus were passed around, Yukina didn’t even take a look at her. “I’ll have the same as usual.” “You can’t always get the same thing,” Lisa protested, a tone both playful and exasperated. “Try something new for once. Who know, it might be just as good as stew.” “But I like stew.” Beside her, Ako squirmed in her seat. “But Lisa-nee, I want to stick to my favourite too!” “Ako-chan, you won’t grow taller if you live on fries alone,” Rinko pointed out patiently. “I’m sure Sayo-san would do the same!” “No, I wont,” Sayo flushed red, making the others laugh. Finally, Lisa and Rinko finally convinced their two picky eaters to expand their horizons. But when the food arrived, Yukina wrinkled her nose as she stabbed at the side salad. “Why do they always force vegetables into every meal?” Lisa glanced over in amusement. “Because they’re healthy.” Yet the moment the other turned away, she leaned over and whispered under her breath, “Here, I’ll take care of that,” she snagged a few bitter vegetables from Yukina’s plate before depositing a few leafy greens of her own. The two continued on with their meal as if nothing happened. Meanwhile, Sayo had ordered a grilled meat and rice combo, only for her meal to be infiltrated by a pile of offending orange sticks. Rinko, noticing her grimace, quietly offered a few of her own untouched celery stalks under the table. “Here,” she whispered, “I’ll trade you.” Sayo glanced around to make sure no one was looking before sliding her carrots in exchange. “Thanks,” she mumbled, feeling both awkward and grateful. Across from them, Ako, noticed the quiet shuffle of plates and vegetables being passed around. “Wait… what’s going on?” All eyes turned, looking equally guilty. “What do you mean, Ako?” Yukina feigned innocence. Unfortunately, her hand was already halfway to Lisa’s plate, the tell-tale piece of bitter melon between her chopsticks.   “Why are you swapping veggies without me?” Ako pouted. “I don’t like them either!” They knew they’d all been caught. Lisa put her chopsticks down. “We’re sorry Ako, we didn’t mean for you to feel left out. From now on, let’s all agree to eat our vegetables, got it?” She glanced around the table, challenging the others to protest. Despite a few grumbles, the others nodded. They all knew they should be setting a better example for their youngest member. Back at the hotel later, Lisa scrolled through her secret social media account. Today had been a blessing of cute moments. With a chuckle, as she uploaded a few new pictures. A candid shot of Yukina from the concert, her hair gleaming under the stage lights and a rare smile on her face. A cute picture of Sayo begrudgingly picking at a carrot on her plate and lastly, one of Rinko, looking gorgeous in the moonlight on their walk back to the hotel. “What are you doing?” Yukina tried to peek over her shoulder. Unfortunately her height made this quite difficult. “Nothing!” Lisa quickly shoved her phone into her pocket. “Just looking at all the fan comments ahaha~” Yukina and Sayo exchanged sceptical looks. They’ve long suspected their girlfriend owned a secret account, pandering to their fans. Unfortunately, neither of them were adept enough with technology to find it. Whenever they asked Rinko, she would simply smile and tell them not to worry about it. Lisa let out a sigh of relief as the pair finally returned to their room. She took a final peek at photo she’d snapped of Yukina and Sayo, snuggled together on the bus. The bassist smiled at the sight of their sleeping faces. That one she’ll keep as a treat, just for her.
***Day 2***
An infection energy hung in the air the morning after their first successful concert. At the sound of her first alarm, Sayo was already awake. It took a few blinks to remember she was in a hotel room. Despite yesterday’s nervousness, she and Yukina were exhausted by the time they returned and already in bed before she could overthink. While they fell asleep on opposite sides of the bed, Sayo was surprised to find her girlfriend curled up against her. For someone so stoic, Yukina had a surprisingly peaceful and gentle expression in her sleep. Sayo’s cheeks warmed as she quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake her. By the time the rest of the group came back from breakfast, Yukina had just managed to roll out of bed. As always, Lisa and grabbed her a handful of pastries to enjoy later on the bus. As they began to pack, Yukina’s voice echoed from the bathroom, muffled slightly by the shower. It was a familiar tune, one that never failed to bring a smile to her girlfriend’s faces. Lisa was brushing her hair in the room next door when she caught herself humming along. “It’s contagious, isn’t it? I swear I caught myself singing in the shower last night.” “At least we know she’s happy,” Sayo smiled. But later as she’s making the hotel bed (a habit she always insists on) the guitarist found herself unconsciously humming along as well. However, that wasn’t the only habit that had snuck into their little group. Sayo had been busy that morning with her post-it notes. What started out as stiff reminders to her bandmates had grown into her personal form of love letter. “Good morning. Don’t forget your charger!” left on the nightstand for Yukina. “Extra green tea in the mini fridge” stuck to the bathroom mirror for Rinko, and a casual “Thank you for the snacks, but please stop giving Ako so much chocolate” plastered to Lisa’s bag. The small reminders never failed to make her partners smile, knowing this was one of the few outlets for Sayo’s affection. A final note was stuck inside the bus: “Great job last night. Proud of you all.” With these little encouragements, the mood was bright as the bus rolled towards the next city. It wasn’t until Sayo’s phone buzzed with a text that her expression darkened. Lisa leaned over. “What’s up?” Sayo sighed, holding her phone out for the others to see. “Pastel Palettes had to drop out from the New Year festival. Apparently, Maruyama-san and Shirasagi-san both got mononucleosis.” “Mono…nucleo- what?” Ako’s brows furrowed. “It’s also called mono,” Yukina explained, looking equally troubled. Lisa was the only one who couldn’t hide a smile. “Mono, huh? Awfully coincidental they both got it~”  “Lisa!” Sayo shot her a look. “What? They’re practically glued at the hip! Or the lips.” However, Sayo wasn’t in the mood. She turned to face the window, her fingers clenched tightly around her phone. The news hit her harder than she wanted to admit. The festival was a crowning moment for Roselia, nationally recognised for their music. But for Sayo, it was more than that. Ever since they agreed to go pro, she’d dreamed of finally standing on stage with her sister, Hina. To finally catch up to the sound she’d secretly admired for years. Without Pastel Palettes, that dream collapsed. The others exchanged glances, understanding the extent of their bandmate’s disappointment. Rinko placed a hand on Sayo’s knee. “Hikawa-san, I’m sorry we won’t get to play with Hina-san this year. I know you’ve been looking forward to it.” Sayo tried to put on a brave face. “These things happen. It was a childish hope, after all.” “Sayo, don’t say that about yourself,” Yukina spoke more firmly. “We all know Hina has been your motivation for a long time. Even if we won’t perform with her on New Years Day, there will be other opportunities.” “Yukina’s right,” Lisa rubbed Sayo’s back reassuringly. “We’re still going to rock this festival. Hina would want you to give it your all, with or without her there.” While Sayo nodded half-heartedly, the spark in her eyes had dimmed from before. … Rehearsals that afternoon were sluggish. Sayo found herself stumbling over parts she could usually play with her eyes closed. She wanted to shake off the disappointment but knowing there was nothing waiting for her at that final concert made it hard to concentrate. When rehearsal finally ended, Yukina lingered in the studio. She watched Sayo silently pack up her gear, lost in her own thoughts long after the others had left. Out of everyone in Roselia, Yukina knew she and Sayo were the most similar. Driven by their perfectionism but just as easily torn down when their rigid expectations were broken. They once had an unspoken agreement to respect each other’s personal space, but ever since her feelings for the guitarist changed… Yukina felt an unfamiliar pull to do something. Anything to take away that dejected look on her partner’s face. Sayo finally noticed her standing there. “Did you need something? I don’t need a lecture, I’m well aware my playing was lacking today.” “It’s not that,” Yukina tried to find the right words. “I thought I could keep you company. If you’d like.” Sayo blinked, then softened. “I would like that.” They left the venue, taking a quiet walk along the river. It was a cold day so not many pedestrians were out. Their breaths fogged in the quiet air and after a while, Yukina reached for Sayo’s hand. Their fingers intertwined, chilled, but seeking comfort. Both girls often relied on shared silences and actions to convey their feelings. It was the best way they knew to show support. Today was no different. After a while, Yukina spotted a familiar sight in the distance and told Sayo to stay put. Five minutes later, she returned carrying a fast-food bag. “Fries,” she said simply, handing them to Sayo. A small smile returned to Sayo’s face. “Thank you. You always remember.” “It’s nothing,” Yukina shrugged, leading them to sit on a bench by the river. The water moved sluggishly below but to them, the scenery was perfect. They ate in companionable silence, the warmth of Sayo’s favourite food slowly easing her tension. “Do you ever feel like… you’re not enough?” she finally asked, staring at a lone tree on the opposite bank. “All the time. But I’ve learned to channel that into my music. It’s what drives me to improve.” Sayo considered this. “I guess we do that for each other, don’t we? Push each other to be better.” Yukina finally took her eyes off the scenery to look at Sayo. Her tone carried a rare softness. “We do. You’re the structure that keeps me grounded. I don’t say it often, but I value that.” A faint blush spread across Sayo’s cheeks. “You’re not bad at this whole cheering-up thing.” “I’m glad it helped,” Yukina smiled, holding up another fry for her. “Here, finish this up. I’m sure the others are wondering where we went.” … The concert that evening went as well as one could hope. While her walk with Yukina had cheered Sayo up considerably, the weight of her disappointment made her guitar lack its usual spark. As soon as it was over, Sayo wished she could take it all back. To replay every missed note, every failure she’d tarnished upon Roselia’s name that night. It was late at night, long after the others had gone to bed, that Lisa found Sayo in one of the hotel’s unused conference rooms. The moonlight revealed the guitarist’s silhouette, practicing alone in the dark. “Have you been here all night?” Lisa spoke softly to not startle her. Sayo stopped mid-chord. “Lisa, I-” “You didn’t come back to the room. I was lonely, you know?” Lisa tried to keep her tone light as she crossed the room. Her hand slipped to Sayo’s face, cupping her cheek gently. After a few moments, Sayo leaned into. “I’m sorry for worrying you.” “I expected this kind of behaviour from Yukina, not you. Am I going to have to keep an eye on both of you from now on?” Sayo looked away, mumbling a weak excuse beneath her breath her breath. Lisa gave her a sad smile. “Sayo, you can’t keep doing this. Today might not have gone as planned, but you’re going to burn out if you keep this up.” Before Sayo could protest, Lisa plucked the guitar from her hand. “Besides, I think you’re already pretty amazing.” “I just don’t want to let anyone down.” Lisa’s expression softened. “You could never let us down. I know you’re hard on yourself because you think it’s what’s best for Roselia. But you have to take care of yourself too. We’d be in trouble if you get sick, staying up this late.” She pulled Sayo up by the hand. “Come on, let’s go to bed. I’m not letting you brood all night. Also you owe me cuddles for making me search the whole place~” Reluctantly, Sayo followed, though her hand tightened around Lisa’s just a little. Lisa only handed her guitar back once they reached the elevator. By the time returned to their shared hotel room, easy smiles passed between them. Even when things felt hopeless, Lisa had a way of making Sayo believe everything would be okay.
***Day 3***
The third day of tour began an attempt at a morning run. Lisa and Sayo led the way, their steady strides making it obvious they were the most disciplined in the group when it came to fitness. Rinko trailed behind, bundled in at least four layers as if to compensate for her dislike for the outdoors. Nonetheless, she tried her best to keep up, not wanting to be left out. Meanwhile Yukina jogged at a leisurely pace, clearly unbothered by the concept of exercise. However, she knew she wouldn’t get any peace if she didn’t join her girlfriends on at least one run. Beside her, Ako had started enthusiastically but was already complaining about the cold before they were even 10 minutes in. “I can’t feel my toes!” Ako whined, her breath puffing in the air. Lisa turned around, jogging backward so she could face the slower members of the group. “That’s what happens when you don’t keep up with regular exercise. If you ran every day, you’d be used to this!” “I’m trying as hard as I can!” the drummer groaned. Rinko slowed to a walk beside Ako, trying to catch her own breath. “We can go back inside if you want.” “No way! I’ll show you I can keep up!” Ako insisted stubbornly. Lisa gave her a thumbs up. “That’s the spirit!” After their run, it was clear the band were in entirely different shapes. Thankfully, the next venue was a short drive, so they had morning off to relax. While their bandmates sprawled across the hotel room exhausted, Sayo and Lisa decide to make a short trip to the convenience store. With Sayo as the most organised and Lisa as the agreed upon ‘mom’ of the group, the task of restocking their snacks usually fell to them. “Don’t forget Ako’s postcard,” Rinko lifted her head weakly. Ako had been keeping a Roselia scrapbook from all their previous tours. It’s become tradition to pick up a postcard wherever they stopped. “Will do!” Lisa waved as Sayo closed the door behind them. As they wandered through the local grocery store, Lisa chatted about anything and everything as she threw items into the cart. Sayo tried to keep up with ticking anything relevant off the list. Despite their different styles, the two had to admit the worked well together. “Do you think Ako would like a postcard with the skyline or something more… quirky?” Sayo asked as they perused a display stand at checkout. “Definitely quirky,” Lisa replied without hesitation, holding up one featuring a cartoon drawing of the city’s mascot. Sayo smiled. “She’ll love it.” But on the way back to the hotel, Sayo got a strange feeling. Her gaze kept flicking over her shoulder. “Lisa, don’t you think... we’re being followed?” “Yeah, I noticed too,” Lisa kept her voice low. “Don’t make it obvious, but there’s a guy in a Roselia hoodie behind us. I noticed him following use since the supermarket.” Sayo’s blood froze. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” “I didn’t think it was anything,” Lisa admitted though her face was visibly paler. “What do we do?” “We head straight back to the hotel. Unfortunately I’ve dealt with my fair share of stalkers. There’s not much else you can do if he isn’t breaking any laws.” “That doesn’t make me feel any better.” As they sped up, Sayo didn’t miss the way Lisa gripped her shopping bag tighter. Only once they reached the hotel lobby did the two girls let out a sigh of relief. “I’m sure it’s just one of our fans who managed to track us down,” Lisa tried to sound cheerful, but Sayo didn’t miss the way her and trembled. The news put the entire band on edge. Even Yukina who was rarely shaken by anything looked visibly concerned. “From now on, no one leaves the hotel alone,” she said gravely. It was clear how shaken Lisa was by the incident, even if she tried to brush it aside. Rinko and Ako stuck close to her for the rest of the day, and even Sayo became more protective, ensuring the bassist was never left alone. “I hate that we have to deal with this on top of all the other stress,” Sayo muttered as they prepped snacks for the road. “I guess it’s the price of being famous,” Lisa flicked her hair playfully. “Maybe I need to invest in some cool shades like Chisato for when I go out.” Seeing Sayo’s scowl, she dropped the playful act. “Look I know you’re worried, but it’s not like anything happened. Having you all looking out for me already makes me feel safer.” “Please just be careful.” The rest of the day passed uneventfully, but the band remained vigilant for any sign of the stalker’s return. However, the added stress only made Lisa restless. Tracking Sayo down in the lobby, she grabbed the guitarist by the hand and led her back up to their room. Having grown attuned to Lisa’s needs, Sayo knew what was coming though her cheeks flushed the moment the door closed behind them. It had become routine. No words were needed before their lips crashed into each other. The kiss quickly deepened as Lisa's hands travelled to Sayo’s waist. They stumbled toward the bed and Lisa was quick to straddle her girlfriend. Feeling Lisa claw at her shirt, Sayo made a half-hearted attempt to slow down. “Lisa, are you sure we shouldn’t be using this time prac-” Lisa silenced her with another kiss, murmuring against her lips, “I need this. Please?” That was the last bit of convincing Sayo needed. They were so caught up in each other the pair didn’t notice when the door opened. Yukina faltered in the doorway. Sayo’s fingers were tangled in Lisa’s hair while Lisa’s hands trailed across Sayo’s back’s bare back, the guitarist’s shirt already strewn somewhere on the floor. Yukina blinked, her head tilting slightly as she processed the situation. Quietly, she closed the door to not interrupt them. Despite the heated encounter she stumbled upon, Yukina wasn’t upset. Rather, she knew Lisa and Sayo were the more physically expressive pair in the relationship. With everything going on, it was natural they would get pent up and seek each other out. Yukina made her way to the room next door where Rinko was curled up with her laptop. The pianist looked up, surprised at Yukina’s entrance. “Did you find Hikawa-san?” Yukina settled on the bed beside her. “Yes, though she and Lisa are… currently occupied.” Rinko’s face flushed at the implication. “Oh… I see.” “You can go join them if you want.” “No, it’s alright. I don’t want you to feel left out,” Rinko assured gently. “I enjoy spending time with you.” Yukina seemed pleased with this. After a comfortable silence, Rinko spoke gently, “Does it ever make you feel left out? When we have… moments like that?” Yukina regarded her thoughtfully before answering. “No, I don’t feel left out. I don’t experience intimacy the same way you all do, but I’m content in knowing my partners are happy. Seeing you take care of each other fulfils me in a different way.” Rinko’s gaze softened. “You’re so understanding.” “Each one of us express ourselves in a different way. That’s what makes our relationship strong.” The pianist reached out to take Yukina’s hand. “I’m glad you told us how you feel. I worry sometimes that I don’t understand you well enough.” “Your understanding means more than you think,” Yukina squeezed her hand. “Judging from past times, I think we have about an hour. Would you like to finish the cat movie we started on the bus?” Rinko smiled and positioned her laptop between them. Snuggling closer on the bed, their quiet bond was reaffirmed as they awaited their other two girlfriends to return. … The group gathered for a buffet lunch in the hotel restaurant before continuing on the tour. Despite this luxurious treat, their leader seemed unusually distracted. Yukina nodded absently at any attempt at conversation. Her haze repeatedly darted toward her girlfriends, a faint crease forming between her brows. It was subtle, but for those who knew her well, her worry was immeasurable. When Yukina didn’t perk up at the mention of cats they saw during their run, Lisa nudged her playfully. “Ne, you’re going to make me blush if you keep staring at me like that~” Yukina blinked, stirring from her thoughts. “I wasn’t staring, just… thinking. About our new song.” Lisa leaned against her shoulder. “I know you're still worried about what our fans will think. But whether they accept our relationship or not, that doesn't change the fact that you wrote an incredible song. ” "Imai-san is right. Your feelings in those lyrics... they really moved me," Rinko blushed as she recalled the first time their partner unveiled the piece. "Still, it's important to wait for the right time," Sayo interjected, seeing the way the vocalist tensed. "If we aren't truly ready, it's no one's business what the nature of our relationship is." "Whatever you decide, we're behind you," Lisa placed a hand on top of Yukina's. Still, their leader's shoulders remained stiff throughout the rest of the meal. Sayo exchanged a look with her girlfriends. With a nod, the group all herded Yukina outside, despite her mild protests. It wasn’t long before they found a small patch of grass in front of the hotel. The ground was slightly damp from morning dew but soft enough to lie on. Lisa flopped down first, spreading her arms wide as if to hug the earth. “Come on, Yukina,” she coaxed, patting the grass beside her. “You love this stuff. Get comfy with me~” “Why are we doing this?” Yukina sighed as she’s pulled down. “It’s cold.” “It’ll help you feel better. Trust me.” With some reluctance, Yukina lay back, the cool blades of grass brushing her skin. The others followed suit, though a few shivered from the chill. Lisa remained close, her hand loosely linked with Yukina’s, while Rinko, Sayo, and Ako found spots on either side. Sayo pulled her jacket tighter around herself, while Rinko slid closer, sharing the warmth. For a moment, Yukina stared at the sky, her lips pressed into a thin line. Then, almost imperceptibly, she exhaled. Her body visibly relaxed. After a few moments she muttered something under her breath, her voice too low for anyone to catch. “Did you say something, Yukina-san?” Rinko tilted her head. Lisa chuckled. “She said she appreciates everyone's understanding. Also, the grass feels nice, but she wishes it were a little warmer.” “I didn’t hear any of that,” Sayo raised an eyebrow. “That’s because Lisa-nee is the only one fluent in Yukina-san,” Ako beamed. “Of course I am,” Lisa grinned, nuzzling into Yukina’s neck. “You learn these things when you’ve loved someone since forever.” Yukina’s cheeks pinkened, but she didn’t object. … Despite the nice moment outdoors, Lisa grew unsettled again on the drive to the next venue. She sat one of the sofas, fidgeting with her phone and occasionally glancing out the window as if it’ll make them arrive any faster. Noticing this, Rinko approached with one of the paperbacks she’d brought along. “Imai-san, this might take your mind off things.” Lisa blinked at the book, a smile already forming. “Is this one of your romance novels?” Rinko nodded, taking a seat beside her. “It’ a good one. I think… you might like it.” Lisa knew how precious Rinko’s books were to her. Eager at the offer, she scooted closer and opened to the first page. Before long, Lisa was sucked into the story, the peaceful silence only broken by the occasionally turning of pages or excited squeal whenever she reached a particularly cute part. “Wait, wait,” Lisa gasped at a dramatic twist. “That can’t be real. Finding love in real life is never this convenient!” Rinko leaned against her girlfriend’s shoulder, her own cheeks aglow. “You say that, but we somehow managed to find three very loving partners. Isn’t that more unbelievable than any novel you’ve read?” “Aww are you flirting with me?” Lisa’s eyes sparkled, leaning up to steal a kiss. Even taking away all the kisses and flirty comments that followed, Lisa genuinely enjoyed the book. Curled up in Rinko’s arms, the warmth and distraction did wonders to ease her mind. ... As the sound check wrapped up, Lisa found herself pacing the edge of the stage. All day, everyone had been trying to help her to take her mind off the stalker. Lisa appreciated each gesture but no matter how hard she tried to keep up her sunny disposition, the looming fear would eventually return, amplifying all the other pressures she was dealing with. It was her job to make sure everyone was happy. To take care of them and buffer any conflict that arose. But how could she do all that when she didn’t even know if her loved ones were safe? She’d read horror stories online of stalkers who preyed on young girls. The thought of it happening to any one of them while in an unfamiliar city was debilitating. Noticing her girlfriend grow more agitated, Rinko touched Sayo’s arm and nodded toward Lisa. Sayo followed her gaze and motioned to Yukina, who was already heading toward her childhood friend. “Lisa,” Yukina called softly. Lisa stopped mid-step, turning to face her girlfriends sheepishly. “Sorry, just... pre-show jitters.” Instead of responding, Yukina opened her arms. “Come here.” Lisa blinked in surprise. “Wait, are you asking… for a hug?” “Yes, unless-”She didn’t get to finish before the brunette threw herself into her arms. As Lisa buried her face in Yukina’s shoulder, Sayo stepped in, wrapping an arm around her too. “It’s not just Yukina. We’re all here for you.” Ako grinned and darted to join them. “Group hug time!” Rinko watched shyly until an arm snaked out, pulling her into the mix. Lisa found herself at the center of this cosy pile of Roselia. Her initial shock melted into a laugh as she hugged them back. “Thanks, everyone. I didn’t know I needed that.”  To think she was tearing up before she even got on stage. … After another successful concert, the band returned to Sayo and Rinko’s hotel room. Ako vibrated with energy despite the late hour. “Board game night!” she declared, holding up her beloved ‘NFO: The Board Game.’ “Again?” Sayo muttered, stifling a yawn. “Come on, Sayo-san!” Ako pleaded, already spilling the pieces onto the bed. After some convincing, everyone joined in. It didn’t take long for things to escalate as Sayo and Yukina locked into a fierce competition. Despite being the most cool-headed, thing always grew heated the moment they’re trying to out-strategize each other. “You’re blocking my path to the final dungeon!” Sayo accused, glaring at Yukina. “You’re the one who took the only healing potion!” Yukina gripped her wizard game piece tigher, as her eyes blazing across the board at her mortal rival. Ako sighed. “You’re both know you’re losing, right?” Lisa simply giggled atop her pile of gold coins, watching the chaos unfold. “I can’t believe you’re both so terrible after all the times we’ve played.” Rinko smiled. “At least they’re having fun… even if they’re never the finish the campaign.” By the end of the night, Ako claimed an easy victory, leaving Sayo and Yukina to stew in their shared last place. But even as they bickered, and pointed fingers, outside of NFO, a sense of camaraderie filled the room. Even if they don’t succeed in defeating the final boss, as a team, Roselia knows they’re unmatched, both on and off the stage.
***Day 4***
Rinko sat cross-legged on the carpet in her hotel room. All around her were piles of fabric and thread. Her hands moved expertly as she repaired the costumes sprawled across the floor. With only a few hours to go until their next concert, stress and fatigue were clearly etched across her face. Rinko had always been shy and although she’d learnt to become more assertive with her bandmates, talking to strangers… still wasn’t easy. A few of their costumes got snagged during transport after their last concert. The pianist had tried to coordinate with the agency staff about fixing it but the adjustments that showed up at her room were nothing like she’d anticipated. Too awkward to point out the mistake, Rinko had buried herself in alterations ever since. Costumes have always been her responsibility. Perhaps it was her own fault for not tackling it from the start but delegating to an outside team who didn’t understand Roselia’s vision. These self-critical things swirled until a gentle knock interrupted her. "Shirokane-san? Can I come in?" “Y-Yes,” Rinko stammered, looking up to find Sayo holding a mug of warm milk. “I thought this might help,” the guitarist placed the mug on the nearby table and sat down beside her. “You’ve been at this for hours.” Rinko gave her a tired smile. “Thank you, Hikawa-san. I just… I want everything to be perfect for tonight. You’ve all worked so hard. I can’t let you down either.” “You won’t,” Sayo said firmly. She hesitated, then added more softly, “You work harder than anyone I know. But you shouldn’t push yourself like this.” Rinko reached for the milk and took a small sip. Her faced relaxed slightly as the warmth spread inside. “I’ve always thought that you’re like a moon, Hikawa-san. Calm and steady whenever I need you. I even brought this with me.” She reached into her bag and carefully pulled out a moon-shaped lamp. Pressing a button on the side, it lit up with a soothing glow. “You gave this to me for my birthday. I always have it with me when I travel. It helps me feel calm.” Sayo’s cheeks turned pink. “I-I didn’t think it meant that much to you.” “It does,” Rinko leaned against Sayo’s shoulder. “Thank you for always watching over me, my lovely moon.” Before Sayo could respond, Lisa burst into the room. Her arms were laden with fabric and sewing tools. “What’s this? You two having a heartfelt moment without me?” “Imai-san?” Rinko blinked in surprise. She instinctively tried to move away as was habit before remembering they were all dating now. Slowly leaned back into the guitarist’s side. “Sayo mentioned you were overworking yourself.” Lisa dropped to her knees beside them both. “You know I’m the fashionable one around here. Let’s get these costume ready, yeah?” Together, they worked to meet the deadline. Lisa offered ideas on some of the adjustments while Sayo was a quick learner, picking up on the meticulous stitching. Rinko’s stress melted away as their teamwork turned a daunting task into something manageable. … Unfortunately, not everything always turned out so perfectly. The practice studio felt suffocating as Roselia gathered post-concert. Yukina’s sharp gaze swept over the group. Each member wore an equally guilty look on her face. Rinko and Lisa had barely finished the costume adjustments on time and arrived late to the dressing room. After a frantic rush to get dressed, the band barely stumbled onto stage in time. But throughout the show, it was evident that fatigue was catching up on Rinko. Her fingers moving more languidly than usual, slowing the tempo a few times. To make matters worse, Ako tried to make up for the low mood with an improvised drum solo, leading to their first noticeable mistake of the tour. As soon as the show ended, Yukina dragged them all to an emergency practice session. They’ve been playing non-stop ever since, ignoring how the clock ticked into the early hours, as each member atoned for their mistakes. “We need this to be perfect,” Yukina scowled, bringing the song to another halt over a minor imperfection. “We cannot afford another sub-par performance like that.” Sayo sighed as she leaned against her amp to catch her breath. All around the room, their playing had begun to falter from exhaustion. “Yukina, we need to approach this differently. We’ve played this song ten times. Perhaps we should-” Yukina cut her off with a sharp look. “Then where is the sound our fans deserve? If we can’t even land the basics, we’ll keep making mindless mistakes.” "Basics?” Sayo bristled. “When it’s the more complex sections we fumbled on tonight? We need to organise the time we have left and build on what went wrong. We can’t keep blindly following your one-track plans.” Yukina’s expression tightened. Out of everyone in Roselia, only Sayo had ever blatantly questioned her judgements. “Overthinking gets us nowhere, Sayo. We’ve seen what happens when we don’t stick to what works.” “Ahaha, why don’t we take a break?” Lisa tried to cut in. She’d always known the two’s relentless drive wasn’t healthy, especially when they were already stretched thin. Unfortunately, her words fell on deaf ears with the pair already at each other’s throats. Rinko’s eyes darted between her partners, unsure how to intervene. She could feel the old conflict resurfacing between Sayo and Yukina while Lisa desperately tried to calm them down. It brought on a sense of déjà vu from their early sessions. Yukina and Sayo have always been two sides of the same coin, neither able to see the other side. To everyone surprise, the pianist’s voice broke through the arguing. “May-maybe we should call it a night?” she offered shakily. In the past, she and Ako would hang back whenever conflict arose but tonight, Rinko felt a sense of responsibility. These were her partners. It made her anxious to see them tear at each other like this. All eyes now on her. Rinko took a deep breath before continuing. “Yukina-san, we have been rehearsing since the concert ended. I think you’re being too hard on all of us… especially Ako-chan.” Ako flinched at those words, her shoulders slumping. She hadn’t meant for her solo mistake to cause such a stir. “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t…” “We all have our own responsibilities,” Yukina cut the drummer off harshly. “I won’t make exceptions for you just because you’re younger.” “Yukina! Is that really necessary?” Lisa scolded as Ako’s eyes welled up. “We’re all tired. Right now, we need to support each other, not tear each other down.” “Support?” Yukina snapped. “What kind of support is letting mistakes slide? What kind of band lets mediocrity creep in?” “I’m not saying we excuse mistakes,” Lisa’s voice rose in a way it rarely did. “But piling on one person like this isn’t helping anyone!”  “This isn’t about mistakes, anymore,” Sayo broke in. “You’re angry our performance didn’t meet your expectation, and now you’re taking it out on us.” Yukina glare flickered between Sayo and Lisa, a twinge of hurt creeping in at being ganged up on. “I’m not going to let this band fall apart because we gave up. We agreed to be professionals. There is no room for sentimentality.” “We’re only human!” Lisa gripped her bass tighter. “You can’t keep pushing us and expect us to perform like machines. Ako’s already struggling, and now you’re making her feel even worse.” Ako lowered her head, her voice quivering. “I’m sorry everyone. I don’t want any special treatment. I just… I want to do better!” “Enough! Sayo shouted, stepping in between them all. “We aren’t getting anywhere tonight. The bus leaves in just a few hours so get whatever sleep you can before we go.” “Sayo, this isn’t your call-” Yukina’s protested but  the guitarist turned on her, eyes ablaze. “I thought we were alike, Yukina. I looked up to you. But if you can’t even recognise what you team needs, maybe you aren’t fit to be our leader.” Yukina’s fists clenched. She spun around, only to me met with the lowered gazes of her bandmates. Without another word, she stormed out of the studio, the door slamming behind her. For a moment, the rest of the band stood in silence. Lisa let out a regretful sigh, “What is happening to us?” “I’ll go after her,” Rinko stood up cautiously.  Met with no resistance, she slipped out the door. ... Yukina sat on a bench outside the venue. Still seething with anger, she barely felt the cold as her head tilted up towards the night sky. She didn’t even look up as Rinko approached, a small thermos in hand. “Yukina-san,” Rinko said softly, stopping a short length away. Yukina’s expression softened when she realised who it was. “Rinko. I…” She hesitated, the words sticking in her throat. “May I sit down?” Receiving a nod, Rinko took a seat beside her. She unscrewed the lid of the thermos and poured the steaming contents into a mug. “It’s honey tea. For your throat,” the pianist offered gently. “Aren’t you angry at me like the others?” “While you were… harsh with us, I know you push yourself hardest of all. Not every mistake in Roselia is your fault, Yukina-san.” Yukina bit her lip but took the cup. Her fingers brushed Rinko’s for a moment. A calm silence passed between them as Yukina stared down at the amber liquid. “I’m sorry for how I acted. I want us to succeed but it seems I went too far.” “I know you mean well,” Rinko placed a hand on her arm. “I have always admired your passion. It’s what drives me to work harder. I hope I can someday express my love of music… as boldly as you do.” Yukina took a sip of the tea, feeling the familiar taste sooth her. Rinko was an expert on teas and always brewed her favourite to perfection. “Thank you, but I don’t deserve your praise,” Yukina lowered her head. “It’s your strength that I admire. You remain calm even when situations get tense. That mental fortitude is what centres me.” Rinko smiled faintly. “And you always know how to keep us moving forward. I appreciate that about you.” For a while, they sat in companionable silence, sharing the tea and letting the night air cool their frustrations. Rinko’s hand trailed to Yukina’s, only to find them freezing to the touch. However, she didn’t rush. She waited patiently, giving Yukina time to pull away if she wanted. Instead, Rinko felt their fingers intertwine. Slipping both their hands into her pocked, the pianist traced her thumb over the back of her girlfriend’s, slowly warming them the way the tea warmed their stomachs. “You’re not alone,” she whispered. “The others will understand too. You just have to apologise.” Yukina’s gaze remained glued to the mug in her lap, but she finally nodded. “I know. I will try. And Rinko… thank you for following me.” “You’re important to me,” Rinko tucked a strand of her girlfriend’s silver hair behind her ear. After a moment, they leaned in, lips meeting gently. The two stayed close till the stars faded away, the first hues of sunrise peaking over the horizon. Even as they reluctantly returned inside to pack, their hands remained intertwined. A promise that none of them would ever be alone.
***Day 5***
The bus rumbled along the highway, the scenery outside a blur of gray skies and passing trees. Inside, Roselia sat scattered across the seats, their exhaustion clear. After the previous night's fight and the near-sleepless hours that followed, everyone was especially prickly. Lisa shifted in her bunk for the fifth time, throwing her head back with an exasperated groan. “This bus is the worst. Who designed these bunks? A sadist?” Sayo who was also tossing in the bunk beneath sighed as she adjusted her pillow. “It’s not the bunks. It’s the fact that we haven’t had more than three hours of sleep.” Rinko was sat quietly at the table and peeked over the edge of her book. She had given up trying to sleep and spent the better part of the morning trying to bridge the gap between the others and Yukina. However, the group’s frustration had made this an uphill battle. Yukina, on the other hand, was slouched against the window in one of the seats, completely unfazed by the tension around her. Her breathing was soft and even, her head tilted at an awkward angle, yet somehow managing to nap like she was in the most comfortable bed in the world. Lisa threw an incredulous look at her sleeping girlfriend. “How does she do that? We’re all dying here, and she’s out cold like it’s no big deal.” Sayo snorted despite herself. “She’s always been like that. Remember that time she fell asleep standing up because we dragged her out to a late fireworks show? Even with all the fireworks going off overhead.” “Yeah, it’s got some weird superpower. She doesn’t even seem fazed after what happened last night.” “Maybe because she refuses to see how it affects everyone else,” Sayo turned back to face the wall, her tone more resentful than intended. Rinko flinched but found herself instinctively jumping to her partner’s defence. “Yukina-san was only doing what she thinks is best for us. It’s not easy for her either.” “It’s not like we aren’t trying our best either,” Sayo muffled scoff rose from the bunk. “She has no right to lash out at us like she did.” Rinko’s gaze dropped to her lap. “I’m not saying that. I just… I don’t think it’s fair to all turn against her.” Ako shifted uncomfortably in her bunk. “I’m sorry, I know it’s my fault you’re all fighting. I’m the one who messed up.” “It’s not,” Sayo cut in firmly. “You’re not the only one at fault here. We’re a band. We all take responsibility for what happens on stage.” The air in the bus grew heavy again as the members tried their best to get comfortable for the long drive. Sayo groaned as she felt a weight squish against her in the already tight bunk. Until she smelt a familiar whiff of perfume. “Lisa, is there something you need?” “Just let me hold you. It helps me sleep better.” Sayo let her muscles relax as Lisa nuzzled into her hair. “This tour is going to kill us if we don’t figure things out soon,” she sighed. At that moment, Yukina stirred, blinking groggily. “You’re all being too loud,” she spoke bluntly. “If you want to sleep, then sleep.” Sayo’s eyes shot open again. She would have leapt out of the bunk to give Yukina another piece of her mind if Lisa’s arms weren’t glued around her waist, holding her back.  Nonetheless, she managed to turn her head enough to shoot the vocalist a glare. “Some of us don’t have the magical ability to nap anywhere. And some of us are actually affected by what happened last night.” Yukina’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she leaned back against her seat, her voice coming out more calmly. “I don’t want to start another fight. We’ll sort this out before the next show. For now, get all the rest you can.” Sayo opened her mouth to retort, but Lisa placed a hand on her cheek, silently urging her to let it go. The rest of the drive passed in strained silence, with the occasional uncomfortable grumble or sigh. As if the day couldn’t get any worse, the tour suddenly shuddered to a halt. The members of Roselia were jolted awake, all stumbling outside to find themselves on the outskirts of a small mountain village. Harumi was already pacing the length of the bus, frantically making calls to the repair service. “This is not how I pictured today going,” Sayo rubbed her dark eyebags.  Lisa let out a big yawn as she tried to untangle her curls with her fingers. “Maybe this is a sign that we need to take a breather.”  “Except we’re now behind schedule,” Yukina’s tone was clipped.  Rinko shifted nervously till her gaze drifted out the window. “Maybe… we could explore the town while we wait? It’s not like we are going anywhere for a while.”  “That’s a great idea! Let’s go on a little adventure.”  Lisa perked up. This was a chance to reunite their disjointed group. Reluctantly, the others agreed. Leaving Harumi to deal with the bus, they bundled up and stepped out into the quaint town. The scene was oddly picturesque, with cobblestone paths and flower-adorned shopfronts. However, the mood among Roselia was anything but peaceful. Lisa tried her best to lift the atmosphere. “Come on, guys, this place isn’t so bad. Look at that confectionary store over there! Bet they’ve got some amazing mochi~” “Lisa-nee’s right!” Ako bounced on the spot, already cheering up. She seemed the most relieved by this impromptu sight-seeing after all the recent flights. “Look at this! And this!”  The drummer darted from one shop window to the next. Despite the grudge in the air, her excitement managed to return a few smiles to the others’ faces. All except for Sayo who was frowning down at her phone. “We’ll need to reschedule our sound checks as soon as we arrive. Maybe if we swap that with our pre-show rehearsal…” Her phone was suddenly snatched from her hand. “No band talk,” Lisa scolded slipping the device into her back pocket. “This is our one chance relax before we have to get back on the road.” “But our schedule-” “Shh! Now come look at that cute shrine with me!” she dragged the guitarist off. Yukina couldn’t hide the slight hurt as she watched them leave. Rinko trailed close behind, her eyes darting between her partner as the group stretched thinner with each step. Even Ako picked up on the simmering conflict, growing quieter as she lagged behind. “I suppose fresh air will do us some good,” Yukina finally broke the silence as she scanned the misted mountains surrounding them. Rinko nodded faintly but her focus remained Lisa and Sayo who were already walking far ahead. Things will only get more tense if they continued picking sides like this. She turned to check on Ako, when her heart dropped. The youngest member was nowhere to be seen. “Where did Ako-chan go?” “She was just here,” Yukina whirled around but the streets were empty. Hearing the commotion, Sayo and Lisa turned and made their way back to join them. “What happened now?” Sayo folded her arms at the sight of her bandmate’s guilty faces. “We’ve lost Ako-chan. She must have wandered off,” Rinko wrung her hand. “Again,” Yukina grumbled. “Why can’t she just stay with the group?” Lisa shot her a look. “She’s a kid, Yukina. Maybe cut her some slack.” “Arguing won’t help us find her,” Rinko piped in before another argument could rise. “Shirokane-san is right. Let’s split up and search,” Sayo put on a firm but calm tone. “We’ll check the nearby streets and meet back here in ten minutes.” The group fanned out, all previous arguments forgotten in wake of their panic. While the village was small, fog was already beginning to settle. They tried their best not to imagine what might happen if Ako accidentally wandered too far. Lisa checked the shops, asking anyone if they’ve seen a purple-haired girl with pigtails. Sayo combed through the nearby park. Yukina, feeling responsible as the leader of the group took the main road, while Rinko peeked into all the side alleys. Lisa finally spotted Ako sitting alone on a bench outside a small candy store, her arms hugging her knees. Relief flooded her as she hurried over. “Ako!” Ako’s head shot up, her eyes red-rimmed. “Lisa-nee?” Lisa crouched down beside her. “Why did you wander off? You scared us.” Ako stared at the ground. “I… I didn’t mean to. I just… needed some space.” Lisa sensed there was more was going on but took her hand gently. “Come on, let’s get back to the others. They’re worried sick.” Everyone’s relief was clear as they were once again reunited. However, Sayo’s frustration quickly boiled to the surface. “What were you thinking? You can’t just walk off like that!” “I’m sorry,” Ako gripped Lisa’s hand tighter, her own fingers trembling. “Ako, what’s wrong?” Rinko asked gently, “You’ve been so quiet lately.” The young girl’s eyes darted between the four worried faces before she finally broke down. “I just… I feel like I’m not good enough to be here. I messed up the concert, and now everyone’s mad at each other. You’re all so close and I feel left out sometimes.” Her confession hit the group like a cold shower, shaking them out of their petty disagreements. “Ako,” Lisa pulled her into a hug, “I’m sorry you felt that way. We never meant to make you a fifth wheel. You’re part of this group, and we’re so proud of you.” “You’re invaluable to Roselia,” Yukina agreed, her voice softer than usual as she wrapped her arm around them both. Sayo hesitated for a moment before joining hug. “If you ever feel like that again, you can tell us. We can’t help if you don’t.” “We love you, Ako. All of us.” Rinko completed the group hug. Ako sniffled, tears streaming down her face. “Really?” “Really,” Lisa stroked her hair. “I’m sorry we’ve been fighting so much. That must have been difficult for you.” “I’m sorry as well,” Sayo glanced down, ashamed. “Yukina, I don’t always understand your judgements, but you’re still our leader. I shouldn’t have given you such a hard time.” “No, I was the one being unreasonable,” Yukina admitted. “I’m sorry for not listening to your needs. I hope you all won’t hold it against me.” “Of course not,” Lisa gave her a kiss on the cheek. “We all love you too, Yukina. Even if you can be a bit too focused sometimes~” For once, they were all in agreement. On the walk back to the bus, Lisa reached into her pocked and pulled out a handful of candy. “One of the old ladies gave these to me when she heard we were looking for Ako.” “You really are like a mom of the group Lisa-nee,” Ako beamed, popping a piece into her mouth.  “Candy solves everything. Right, Yukina?”  Lisa winked at the vocalist. “I have to make sure she always keeps her sugar level up or else she’ll pass out.” “I thought that’s just because of her terrible sleep schedule,” Sayo chuckled. Yukina simply shrugged as she munched on her own piece. And for the first time in days, the group shared a laugh, feeling so much lighter already and ready tackle the rest of their tour.  By the time they returned to the bus, Harumi eagerly announced that repairs were complete. Piling back on board, the familiar interior of the bus felt like heaven after the misadventure they had. Yet, the five have grown so much closer now than when they left. As they settled in for the drive, Yukina glanced around shyly. “I know I made you all practice for too long last night. If anyone’s shoulders or hands are sore, I can give massages.” Lisa perked up immediately. “Yukina’s massages? I’m in!” Sayo raised an eyebrow. “When did you pick up this skill?” “It’s practical. Your hands are vital for our performances. I wanted to ensure I could help if needed.” “Aww, just admit you’re a simp for us,” Lisa teased, peppering Yukina’s cheek in kisses till her girlfriend pushed her away. As the two played a little game of push and pull, Rinko raised her hand shyly. “I’d like one… if that’s okay.” “You don’t even need to ask!” Lisa’s eyes light up, lunching for the pianist. “I think she meant a massage,” Sayo rolled her eyes as she watched Rinko get smothered in kisses. Once Lisa finally released the winded looking pianist, Yukina gestured for the Rinko to sit across from her. Her hands moved with surprising precision, earning a quiet, content sigh from the dark-haired girl. “You’re really good at this,” Rinko admired as Yukina kneaded each sore joint. “You really are too sweet,” Lisa agreed, giving Yukina’s shoulder a gentle squeeze. “But don’t feel guilty for last night, okay? We’ve already forgiven you.” “I just want to make sure everyone is at their best,” Yukina mumbled, not stopping her movements. Sayo joined them, placing a shy kiss on the top of her girlfriend’s head. “Thank you, Yukina. Just remember we’re here for you too if you ever need us.” Yukina’s stoic facade cracked as her face turned a noticeable shade of red. “You don’t have to-” “Too late. You’re stuck with our sappy group,” Lisa winked. The others laughed softly as the mood grew more comforting. A while later, Lisa pulled out a stash of blankets from her corner, wrapping up anyone who looked a little chilly as they settled in for a final nap. “Lisa, how many blankets do you have?” Sayo asked in disbelief as she was suddenly smothered by a pink cocoon. “Enough to keep you all cozy,” Lisa bragged, throwing another blanket on top of Yukina who was already out cold. “I even brought my candles!” Sayo’s head snapped up. “Candles? On a moving bus? That’s a fire hazard!” “You don’t appreciate good ambiance,” Lisa pouted as Rinko moved in to confiscate her collection. “We don’t need to make an emergency stop again,” Sayo countered dryly. Thankfully, the rest of the drive passed smoothly as the members caught up on much-needed sleep. Sayo’s head lulled against the seat as Rinko and Ako snuggled up on either side of her. Meanwhile, Lisa had practically claimed Yukina’s lap, her arms wrapped tightly around her sleeping girlfriend like a clingy koala. Only the sounds of their soft breathing and Yukina’s occasional snores filled the bus, carrying them one step closer to the grand finale of their tour.…By the time they arrived at the venue, it was clear Roselia wouldn’t have time for their usual rehearsal. Despite the chaotic day, their spirits were high and the adrenaline kicked in as they took the stage. “Let’s give it our all,” Yukina said firmly, her gaze meeting each of theirs in turn. Lisa held her pinkie out towards the center of the circle. “For Roselia.” Four other pinkies joined her. “For Roselia,” they all echoed, raising their hands to the sky. Stage light flooded over them as the girls proudly took the stage, facing the awaiting crowd. None of these people know what they’ve been through. It didn’t matter. Roselia were there to perform, to give their fans the time of their lives whether this was their first show or their tenth. As the first chords tore through the venue, the members exchanged smiles. The five of them were Roselia. Ready to pour everything into the performance. … The hotel room buzzed with excitement as all five girls streamed in, congratulating each other on the incredible show they just had. Despite the exhaustion weighing on them, none of them wanted the night to end just yet. “Get in here!” Lisa tackled Sayo and Yukina onto the king-sized bed, drawing a grunt from them both. Rinko giggled as she settled down beside them, watching as the two tried to squirm away. “Whose idea was it to all come in here?” Yukina rubbed her temples, “There’s not enough room on this bed.” “Sure there is,” Lisa cooed, stroking her cheek and making her girlfriend scowl. “We all need a good cuddle after the wild day we’ve had. Don’t act like you don’t secretly love it~”  “I do not,” Yukina replied stiffly, though her cheeks betrayed her by turning a vivid pink.  Ako hesitated near the edge of the room, ”Um… do you guys want me to go-”  “Nonsense,” Sayo insisted, patting the space beside her. “You’re also part of this group.”  Ako’s face lit up as she leapt onto the pile, earning another grunt from Yukina before wedging herself between Rinko and Sayo. Lisa slung her arm around Yukina, earning herself a light glare. “I can’t breathe.”   “Oh stop whining,” Lisa kissed her grumpy girlfriend on the nose.  “Sayo, back me up, will you?” To everyone’s surprise, Sayo hesitated. “I don’t usually like cramped spaces, but once in a while, it’s... comforting,” she admitted, sinking into the crook of Rinko’s neck. The pianist smiled as she stroked Sayo’s hair. “It is nice. Like a reminder of how we’re always here for each other.” “See Yukina? Give in already,” Lisa smirked. Ako giggled as she listened to the banter. “Yeah, I love you guys! We’re like, dark essence and when you mix us all together, boom! We make the perfect potion.”  “That’s right!” Lisa tousled Ako’s hair, making her giggle. “See? Don’t forget you’re a very important part of this concoction.”  Yukina’s hand found Rinko’s, giving it a gentle squeeze. “You all are. I couldn’t imagine Roselia without any of you.”  Rinko blushed but squeezed back, her other hand brushing Ako’s arm reassuringly.  “Getting sentimental on us?” Sayo smiled yet tilted her head to kiss Yukina’s temple. “As if you aren’t one kiss away from melting,” Yukina shot back but nonetheless leaned into the kiss. Exhausted from everything, it didn't take them long to fall asleep. One by one the girls drifted off, five breaths syncing as one. While the bonds between them sometimes wavered, they always came back together. Their hearts and limbs tangled together as one.
***Day 6***
As the tour bus came to its final stop on New Year’s Eve, everyone in Roselia knew they were about to have a concert of a lifetime. The festival grounds stretched out further than the eye could see with bustling food stalls and vibrant banners. The main stage towered in the centre of it all, already ringing with the first round of sounds checks with four smaller stages sprawled around. Festival goers were already arriving by the hundreds, sporting colourful wristbands and rushing to claim the best spots to watch their favourite bands. While Roselia won’t be on till evening, the atmosphere made it impossible not get hyped up. “This is it!” Lisa pressed her face against the glass. “The big finale!”  Ako practically bounced in her seat. “This is gonna be amazing! But before we get busy with setting up, I have to log on and-”  “No,” Yukina interrupted, her tone leaving no room for debate. “No NFO today. We need to stay focused for the concert.”  “But Yukina-san, what about daily quests?” Ako cried, clutching her laptop to her chest. “They can wait.” Yukina turned to give Rinko and Sayo the same look, making the pair stare down at the table. Lisa chuckled as Ako slumped in defeat. “You’ll survive one day without your game, Ako.”  Or so they thought. Later during their break, Yukina returned from a vocal warm-up session when she stumbled upon an unmistakable sight. Ako, Rinko, and Sayo were huddled together on one of the bunks, laptops opened on their laps and frantically tapping away.  “Really?” Yukina deadpanned. The three froze, flushing red. Ako hastily snapped her laptop shut. “Uh... we were just, uh… team bonding!”  “Through the daily quests I told you not to do?” Yukina arched an eyebrow.  Rinko mumbled something incoherent while Sayo cleared her throat. “They’re a vital… strategic exercise.”  Yukina sighed but let it go with a shake of her head. “Just don’t be late for soundcheck.”  From then on, the pace picked up. Emboldened by the festival spirit, Rinko took another shot at asking the agency staff for help with the costumes. She wanted to add something special to make them really pop on their final night. Though nervous, Rinko gradually shared her design ideas, even delegating smaller tasks to lighten her workload. The team’s encouragement bolstered her confidence and for the first time, she could focus on her music knowing Roselia’s costumes were in good hands.  Meanwhile, Lisa found Sayo tinkering with her bass in the corner of the dressing room. “What’re you up to, baby?” Lisa wrapped her arm around her girlfriend’s neck.  “Your strings needed replacing,” Sayo replied without looking up. “I was already working on my guitar, so I figured I’d handle it.”  Lisa’s heart melted at the gesture. “You’re the sweetest, you know that?” she gave the guitarist a quick kiss.  Sayo shrugged nonchalantly, but the slight pink on her cheeks betrayed her.  Before the final preparations, Lisa gathered everyone for her pre-concert ritual, nails. “Okay, hands out, ladies. Can’t go on stage without our matching nails~”  Ako stuck out her hand excitedly. “Make mine sparkly!”  “Of course!” the gyaru promised, already whipping out a shiny shade of purple from her oversized bag of cosmetics. Once everyone’s nails were done, Lisa held up her phone and snapped a picture of their coordinated designs. “This one’s going on my secret account,” she teased. This earnt cries of disbelief from Sayo and Yukina, but she kept her lips sealed. As the evening crept closer, their excitement began to mingle with nerves. This was their big night, do doubt the biggest of the year. Thousands have travelled from across the country, many of which might not even know their names. But no matter who was waiting for them out in the crowds, the five were ready to reach the final note of this journey. With minutes to go, Roselia stood together backstage. Their fingers brushed, hands finding each other in quiet reassurance as they awaited their biggest performance of the tour. Suddenly, the door burst open, and a familiar, bubbly voice rang out. “Onee-chan!” Sayo turned sharply, her eyes widening as Hina barrelled toward her, arms wide open. “Hina?! What are you doing here?” Sayo exclaimed as the force of the hug nearly knocked the wind out of her lungs. “I came to see you, silly!” Hina squeezed her twin even tighter. “You’ve been awesome, Onee-chan! I’ve kept up with all your performances. The third night was my favourite so far, but I obviously couldn’t miss this one!” Say’s face flushed. “You didn’t have to go through all that trouble...” she mumbled, though her grip tightened briefly. Lisa watched the scene with a smile until the realisation hit her. “Wait a second, you saw our performance on the third night? Have you been following us all this time?” “Yeah! I can never get bored seeing Onee-chan perform,” Hina beamed. “And thanks for updating your account Lisacchi. All the photos have been super cute!” “So all along, the suspicious stalker who’s been following me… was you?” Hina tilted her head innocently. “Is it stalking, or is it making sure Onee-chan is happy? Although I didn’t need to worry, you all spoil her so much, ehehe~” “Don’t ‘ehehe’ me you troublemaker,” Sayo growled, grabbing Hina by the scruff of her Roselia hoodie. Lisa laughed. “One thing’s for sure, you’re the ultimate Onee-chan superfan. Next time… just try not to worry your sister so much.” What followed would have been a very long-winded lecture from Sayo if Harumi didn’t appear, announcing that it was time for them to take the stage. Sayo gave Hina a final scowl before softening into a reluctant squeeze. “Hina… thank you. Even if we can’t be on the same stage, I’ll be play for you tonight.” The band had never seen the younger Hikawa so ecstatic. She waved them off till her arms were a blur. Sayo smiled as she followed her bandmates towards the awaiting crowd. Even if Hina’s well-intentioned support caused some problems, having her sister here tonight meant more than she’d ever admit. The roar of the crowd greeted Roselia as they stepped on stage. Giving each other a final nod, Ako counted them off and the final concert began. They poured their hearts into every note, each movement well-rehearsed like a symphony. Gazing across the sea of people, none of them could believe the sheer size of the audience compared to previous nights. And while they couldn’t make out any faces among the thousands, the sea of dancing glowsticks gave them all the encouragement they needed. When they finally approached their last song, Yukina glanced at her bandmates. Her expression shimmered with pride but beneath it was a deeper emotional. Without a word, they all understood. 'I'm ready'. The crowd went silent as the opening notes of an unfamiliar song filled the air. Hushed whispers rippled through, erupting into roars of excitement as they realised they were getting a surprise song. A New Year’s gift from Roselia. It wasn’t the song the members had planned to play even though they’ve practice, but in that moment, it felt right. Taking a deep breath, Yukina’s voice carried the first line of this personal composition. The sound didn’t ring with her usual power but a tenderness that took everyone’s breath away. This wasn’t just a song. It was a tribute of love to her partners. Yukina made eye contact with Lisa, a smile shared between them during a line about unwavering support. Turning to Rinko, her voice softened as the lyrics touched on delicate strength. Finally, her gaze sharpened as it met Sayo’s, a nod of acknowledgment to her resilience. When the final note faded away, the audience was left breathless. The applause that followed thundered through the night air as the band gave their final bows. They continued to hold hands even as they left the stage. Backstage, reporters clamoured for answers about the unexpected song and its meaning. Yukina simply smiled. Just like any questions they’ve gotten about their relationship status, the members would exchange knowing glances and nothing more. “Thank you for coming to our performance. We hope you will continue to support Roselia in the new year,” the vocalist smile for the cameras before the band retreated to their dressing room. Inside, Hina immediately leapt up from the couch with a grin. “That was super, duper boppin’, Onee-chan! You were all so zappin’, I felt my heart thump!” “Hina, sit down before you trip over something,” Sayo huffed but nonetheless settled on the couch beside her sister as Hina gushed about every single detail of the performance. Lisa laughed as she draped an arm around Yukina. “Well, if this tour taught us anything, it’s that surprises come in all forms. What you did out there was very brave, Yukina. We’re all proud of you.” “I wouldn’t have had the strength if not for all of you,” Yukina said modestly. In turn, she reached out to squeeze Rinko’s hand. While Sayo remained too squashed beneath a twin-sized lump to join, the pianist leaned down to give her a tender kiss on the lips, completing the circle. Ako watched her four bandmates with a content smile. “Seeing you guys happy makes me so happy. I hope we can share this with the world someday!” Rinko held out her hand and the drummer ran to her, curling up in a hug. “Perhaps one day,” Yukina’s lip quirked. She glanced at her girlfriend’s faces. “But whether anyone will accept us or not, having you is all I need.” … As the clocks struck midnight, Roselia shared a quiet moment to reflect on how far they’ve come. The buzz of the festival faded into gasps as fireworks exploded overhead. Lying side by side on the grass, Yukina, Lisa, Sayo, and Rinko watched the colourful display, wrapped up warmly in one of Lisa’s fluffy blankets. They didn't even care anymore if any fans saw them together like this. They were in love, something that even six chaotic days on the road couldn't tear apart. “I’m still mad I couldn’t kiss you all at midnight,” Lisa pouted. “Because it’s physically impossible,” Sayo pointed out with a wry smile. “Yes, though I’m sure you have given us enough kisses to last till the next decade,” Yukina chuckled. Her face was still littered with lipstick marks though she appeared rather pleased by this, refusing to let Sayo wipe them off. “I hope we continue to grow even closer in the New Year,” Rinko added, smiling as she felt Lisa wiggle into her arms. “Come on, you all need to hold me tighter. It’s freezing!” Lisa shivered, drawing a few laughs and eye rolls. “You’re the one who insisted on coming out here to ‘touchgrass'.” “Well, Yukina can’t come out here supervised in case she tries to eat weeds again.” “Imai-san… you do know Yukina-san isn’t actually a cat.” “I have three girlfriends and somehow the overall intelligence combined has gone down.” “Sayo, stop being such a meanie!” “Ow! Stop hitting me!” “Then Yukina, smack her for me.” “Hey- wait! Y-Yukina?” “I do anything Lisa tells me to.” “I hope Ako-chan and Hina-san are okay alone…” “Ugh, I have enough trouble handling you lot.” “But you love us, don’t you~?” With a smile, the four girls settled back into each other’s arms. This has wrapped up to be a very good year indeed.
