Work Text

It seemed like forever, but forever is finally here.College was over, and you had just stepped out of adolescence and into the ‘real world’--the one that every grown adult had nagged you about throughout your years. Stressful and annoying, isn’t it?Well, those same people who spouted nonsense about the college-to-job pipeline were evidently liars, since you were waiting not only for a call back from the agency but tables for a minimum wage with the bonus of unsolicited catcalls from middle-aged men.Leaning over the bathroom’s granite counter; there you were, brushing your dark lashes with the mascara wand to enhance your brown almond eyes. You agreed to attend a mixer tonight out of curiosity and the hope of maybe…if you were lucky enough–a new job opportunity.Prettying yourself up was the first idea, with your freshly dried straight long raven hair. The hum of music was faintly in the background beside the annoying fan that was inseparable from the switch of the light–seriously, who even thinks to connect the two?! In a pair of black and unfortunately, too-tight suit pants (that clearly hadn’t been worn since a senior year job application) were clad onto your legs, paired with a white blouse that didn’t hold up a great deal of being thick enough to hide your dark bra. Your part was straight in the middle and your brows appeared to be even, applying a few swipes of lipgloss over your plump lips before leading you out of the bathroom.Heels were too uncomfortable to wear if you were going to be walking and sneakers were too casual, so you decided on a simple but cute pair of heeled black flats that blended in with your socks. Stepping into them you grabbed your bag and headed to the front of the apartment complex and into your black sleek car.—---------------On arrival, you were greeted by a two-story brick building with a dark and packed parking lot. You led yourself to the entrance; greeted by the somehow bright and dim fluorescent lighting, placing a nametag written in pretty but nearly illegible handwriting that signed, Y/N, over your right breast. You wandered further down the carpeted hall, the bottoms of your shoes shifting over the fabrics as you trail to the main event. In sight, there were tables, stands, a drink bar, and a ton of people dressed formally in suits or long plain skirts. A low chatter could be heard but one stuck out, a tall man who stood in front of you.“Y/N,” he spoke; holding out his hand for a shake. You shook his large hand and returned an awkward smile with a subtle nod before he retreated to another area of the venue. You cringed at your stiffness but shook it off and gazed around the vicinity–before spotting an anomaly in the crowd with blonde-reddish hair: a tall, young, and attractive man dressed in a grey suit with an unordinary pink tie.You shouldn’t have postponed your last eye doctor appointment; since you were squinting to see the man’s name tag.Reigen Arataka.
