Metropolis, the city known for its blazing nightlife and its famous tourist spot of the Five Elements Mountain and where THE Great Sage Equal to Heaven have been known to visit their festivals for a century. The city has been rumored to be beloved by the king himself, of course, the local citizens see this fact because he and other monkey citizens have always commented on their local and traditional cuisine. Their city is also a famous manufacturer of peach wine, and their neighboring towns and villages have been growing and harvesting peaches for a long time, so it is easy to say their wine is authentic and their recipe has not changed.As for this year, there has been excitement and a big preparation going on in the city center where a large park and monument of the founding father had resided. The park was decorated with many balloons, flowers, fairy lights, lanterns, and many more, there were some volunteers too who were setting up decorations and were being instructed by shadow clones by none other than Macaque, the one who is to be wed to the Great Sage.Shocking, isn’t it? Or have you seen it from a mile away?Nonetheless, yes. This year, a festival is to be held for Sun Wukong and Liu’er Mihou | Mcaque’s bonding ceremony!“Hey! You! Leave that! You can take it after the ceremony but not today kid” Macaque – the city’s famous and greatest shadow player and entertainer, who also had prepared the ceremonial decorations – yelled as he playfully lifted the laughing human and demon children who each had a handful of balloons in each palm and claw.“Oh c’mon Mr. Mac! Ya already got tons!” A child pouted as he pointed behind Macaque where a large dome of balloons that are tied to a makeshift stage – soon to be where they will stand – that overlook a beautiful waterlily lake that are filled with elegant koi fishes and cute ducks with their ducklings.“Well, I need tons” The monkey rolled his eyes with a grin, he stuck his hand behind him and then held out bars of chocolates like they were cards. “How about a trade?” He asked“SOLD!”____________________________________________________________________________________Meanwhile, somewhere east from Metropolis“W-well this is my first time feeling like this” Wukong stammered as he walked back and forth in the still-standing fortress in Flower Fruit Mountain, trying to settle his ruffling fur that kept fluffing up no matter how many times he had brushed it down.“Still scared of being watched? Or should I say the center of attention in a non-combative environment?” Ma – now a retired general of the army – chuckled as he dusted off the traditional clothes Sun Wukong would be wearing in his bonding ceremony. As wars became less and less occurring, he developed a hobby of tailoring and it had made him happy as he continued dusting and rechecking the seams of his work, the work where both important figures in their kingdom are to be wearing.“YES!” Wukong cried like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Fighting is alright but performing arts is another thing!” He grimaced, fighting in an arena wasn’t as nerve racking as performing on stage! Fighting lets him his opponent but on a stage? he cannot comprehend looking out unto hundreds pairs of eyes tracking his every move, it made his fur stand up even more!“Hush, you made speeches in front of many. That didn’t scare you that much, you even managed to rile them up so hard that it boosted their morale and proceed to lead the army into winning three waves before retreat” Ma recalled as he went to seat on a beanbag that felt so heavenly on his aching spine, he was glad he had made the fourth industrial revolutionary era to experience the comforts of life.“Because it was a moment! Adrenalin was coursing through my veins!” Wukong whined as he melted onto the floor, garnering an amused huff from the other monkey“At this point, just ask Ba. Him and Beng did a ceremony which you officiated. They have experience that you might insights to” Ma chuckled as he went to stand besides his puddle of a king, the dark simian’s dramatics definitely rubbed off on Wukong.As if Buddha heard his voice, Ba came in with a small monkey demon in his arms“Ah, Ba and little Liu. Pleasant to have you” Ma smiled as he immediately went to hug and snuggle his only niece.“Hi!” Liu greeted with a grin and went to cling onto Ma’s neck and Ba lets go with an amused chuckle. Liu had already chosen a favorite uncle it seems.Liu had been found, orphaned by Beng during one of her trips in mainland China. She was born of by flesh and her parents had been found poisoned in their home by the mountain ridges with pieces of snake flesh and scorpion stingers scattered around. It was a war zone but when the sun met its peak, the bodies had reverted back to its original form of Qi. Beng had become attached when they traveled back to Flower Fruit Mountain, once they had returned, the citizens had welcomed little Liu with open arms.“Baaaa….. I need help” Wukong grumbled as he crawled and clung to his friend’s leg, tail sluggishly swaying behind him.“What’s up, king?” Ba laughed softly and went to sat down besides the golden monkey.Ma looked at them with a smirk glanced down at Liu and whispered “Want to get out and leave the lovestruck fools alone?”
The little monkey looked at him with a big grin and nodded, stifling her sweet little laugh as they tip toed out of the room with a small comedic narrative being narrated by MaThe other brother rolled his eyes and left them to their own devices and focused on his king who also smiled softly at the other two monkeys who now left. Both were glad that their uptight general is now relaxing and taking the new era much better, it was heartbreaking when Ma had been hallucinating the war and the losses, always waking up in a cold sweat or even reliving the battle when certain things had triggered him, it had taken a toll on everyone present. Not only him were affected but a lot of his citizens had suffered but as help came in, they all had managed their darkest moments and are now living in peace with their loved ones.“I’m glad little Liu is with us” Wukong said“Yeah, same” Ba smiledThey were sure that the small monkey is another factor for everyone to improve, in the face of diversity, they had made the children an inspiration to be better.They stayed on the floor with a soft silence, listening to the waves as the morning sun seeped through the ancient cherry tree at the center of the room that served as the roof or shade of the large balcony that connects to Wukong’s living space.“So, what’s the problem?” Ba broke the silence“Ughh, I’ll make it simple. Stage. Fright.” Wukong groaned out“Stage fright? King, ya aint gonna perform! Your just gonna seat on that sedan chair of yours and say your vows in the middle of the city and I gotta say, did Macaque take flower arrangement lessons? Because wow, wish you met him before me and Beng had our bonding ceremony” Ba rambled and paused when Wukong pouted and grumbled something“What?”Wukong glared at him from the floor and grumbled again.Ba deadpanned and swatted Wukong’s head “I did not understand a word you said”The king pouted “I want to do something rather than be carried”“And???”“That means I want to perform, or rather dance”“Wait why?” Ba asked in confusion“I just want to surprise him! He had enjoyed the dragon dances back then and I wanted to- to- JUST- I want to do this for him!” Wukong groaned out, his face turning a bright pink shade“Ahh, still stuck up with flashy entrances, I see?” Ba chuckled and let out a full belly laugh when Wukong pushed him onto the ground “Oh shut it”“What? You always do that!” Ba teased and froze in alarm. “Wait—Shouldn’t Macaque already heard this?”“No, I covered the entire mountain with a spell by his request, it’s a tradition that each couple won't see each other before bonding, he told me”Ba sighed in relief and asked, “Then have you already practiced and prepared your props?”“Already have, my clones will also be behind me to do it. The only problem is.. what if I slip up? The nervousness is just- persistent!” Wukong groaned“Well..” Ba paused with a chuckle and looked at Wukong with a certain partner in mind “If there's one thing, I know that eases my nerves, it's Beng”
He added “If you want to try then, look at Macaque. I bet that’ll ease your nerves, yeah?”
__________________________________________________________________________________After tying the balloons around the park and in the city, he lets his volunteers and himself go for a snack. He went to one of his old friend’s noodle shops, surprised to see one of the remaining monks in the band.“About time you asked the question” Ao Lie chuckled, previously called Bai Long Ma but changed his name after finding a humbler life more fulfilling than a royal one.They both settled on the stool facing the chef at work, who had currently his back turned towards them, pace fast but controlled as he chopped the necessary ingredients and seemed to be lost in his little world.“It’s the right time, no more celestial or mortal wars for us to partake. We can settle down now, let our immortal lives rust away in this place” Macaque grinned, his tail swaying lazily behind“Pigsy’s special for the warriors served!” Pigsy, definitely Bajie’s reincarnation – served them their noodles, toppled and decorated in beautifully carved carrots“Thank you, old friend” Ao Lie grinned and took ahold of his food.
The immortals didn’t bother to let their once-dead friends know of their past life, it was better to forget the past horrors they had experienced and let them live in this peaceful era. Heck, they even met Bajie when he was practically a kid! Happy and energetic with his loving mama in the countryside, they watched him from the sidelines as he made a career for himself in the boxing championships and then retired early to make the noodle shop he had always dreamed of in the city's heart.“Where’s Sandy? Is he still in his boat?” Macaque asked, looking around for a tall blue water demon. They also discovered that Sandy had been created from the depths of the ocean, a cave where Qi had unexpectedly gathered and formed a life form, A fisher family had taken him in and grew to outlive them but had inherited their fishing boat. From there on, he lived off from selling fish and tinkering the boat as a side hustle and when he had been selling in the fish market, he met Pigsy.“Helping with the floats, they needed a hand and he went for it” Pigsy shrugged and grinned at Macaque
“So how's the preparation going? Are you sure you don’t need us? Y’know Tang can help with the scriptures”“As much as Tang is that helpful, I don’t need it. I have my clones to manage them” Macaque answered with a smile“Ohoh but do you have the scriptures before Wukong became the Great Sage?” Pigsy askedMacaque froze midway through eating his noodles and looked at Bajie with wide eyes “He has them?!” He gasped as his noodles fell from his chopsticks“He has this little reading club with the Bull King and I guess he shared some originals with Tang" Pigsy shrugged"Of course he did" Macaque groaned out, Bull King! Why hadn't he thought of him?"Why the scriptures anyways?" Pigsy asked, Ao Lie in the meanwhile just kept eating as he listened in on the conversation. "I wanted to post them around the capital, it would be great for them to read how Sun Wukong came to be" Macaque smiled, already planning to create shadow silhouettes of actions in between scriptures"Yeesh, very extravagant then" Pigsy commented while Ao Lie laughed
"And here is the guy" Pigsy pointed out when Tang entered the establishment, already hands full of scrolls."Ah, Macaque! Princess Iron Fan wanted me to deliver these for you" Tang smiled and settled the scrolls carefully on the table and took a seat beside them.
"Seems she knows me that much" Macaque grimaced but eagerly took hold of it "Thank you, Tang"
"No problem, and by the way. Lady Bone Demon will be able to visit"Macaque was glad he wasn't eating the noodles or he would have spit it at the scrolls "WHAT?!?"

DBK laughed aloud as he hugged the golden monkey, ruffling his fur with joy"Alright alright! No need to ruffle my fur to knots!" Wukong grinned, playfully shoving the larger demon back with his tail.
After Ba left to check over his own family and because someone from afar had visited him by surprise, his brother and his sister-in-law came bearing presents to be opened by them and Macaque after the ceremony. Their gift was far bigger than the mountains of gifts they had received for the past month."I never thought to see you with a partner! I didn't even think that Macaque could catch your interest!"
"Yes. Sure, darling." Princess Iron Fan rolled her eyes in amusement in the background. The Bull King tends to be blind when it comes to romance, even if it is sitting right in front of him. You can have two individuals confessing their love for one another and he would have thought it was comradery, he was too oblivious and the princess cannot fathom how she managed to marry him – thankful that she managed to marry him."Well here I am now, to be bonded" Wukong smiled, his demon brother already knowing he wasn't excited.
"What is wrong? Shouldn’t you be happy?" He asked as he kneeled in front of the monkey"Oh- I am happy! Just- just skittish, if you would say" Wukong sighed, expression turning to worry.
"Oh, what may be the problem, Wukong?" The princes asked as she ushered them all to sit by the table, which they followed."I'm just- augh. I'm so so happy about this. Heck!" Wukong groaned as he plopped down in front of the couple, a set of tea prepared at the center of the table
"Mac there wanted to personally decorate for our ceremony and I thought that I- I don't know what I thought so I- just- I didn’t know what to do- compared to his preparation I just- HERE!" The golden monkey ranted, hands moving in time with his tone, floundering and about."And I thought 'Wouldn't it be a great idea if I dance?' and I planned it! For weeks I've done it and now that the ceremony is tomorrow- I just- I just can’t wrap my head around dancing in front of all those people-"Right then, Bull King laughed "Oh! This is hilarious!"
"Darling!" Iron Fan apprehended with a swat"Oh my Buddha this is comedic! Wukong! Why worry yourself with something so trivial!" the bull demon laughedWukong pouted as Bull King's volume kept increasing, whereas Princess Iron Fan looked disappointed but he didn't get offended. Bull King has been his brother far longer than a partner of Iron Fan"Don't let the mortals steal your attention! Give it fully to Macaque. Why bother with those fleshies?" Bull King snorted. Iron Fan and Wukong looked at him, amused and marginally shocked that the bull demon said something intellectual for once, he might be intelligent but it was on the war effort"I guess, that kind of work" Wukong chuckled, having already been given that advice in a different format. "A great advice indeed ""Ahhhhh, I didn't think the possibility of her coming" Macaque mildly panicked, walking around in circles in the middle of the thankfully empty restaurant"Who is that" Pigsy asked around his group of friends"Oh that's Macaque's sort of rival-turned-mentor he made back when they fought together for the possession of the lantern. He managed to impress her enough with his powers and decided to recruit him in exchange for keeping the lantern. He was made an informant for a while, and then some betrayal happened before they became on good terms. It’s a long story but that’s the gist of it" Ao Lie explained, deciding to take Macaque's noodles and eat it. Pigsy just sighed"She also supposedly to be dead but managed to take control of a descendant of hers now with a new another student" Tang added in, hands protecting the noodles from the slurping"When is she going to arrive?" Macaque asked and froze when he heard a voice behind "Oh silly monkey, I have arrived long before sunrise" The mayor, or the possessed mayor chuckled, voice overlapping between a female and a male"Hi, Mr. Mac!" Meanwhile, Bai He, LBD's protege popped out from behind and waved. He met her during one of his performances around China, she made herself known by the amulet she wore that indicated the Lady Bone Demon protects her and he invited her for a meal, that’s when he knew that she knew a lot about him than him it is to her."My lady! What a pleasant surprise!" Macaque greeted, facade back on mask as he screamed in inside 'How am I supposed to accommodate you?!?'"Oh hush that little mind of yours, I cannot attend my student's bonding ceremony!" LBD chuckled and went to sit besides Ao Lie and the little girl followed after giving Macaque a hug."Good morning" The group greeted the demon in their way, further amusing the lady as she smiled "Now I remember that time when Macaque had-""OKAY NO-"
With all of Wukong’s visitors finally leaving him alone to prepare themselves for tomorrow, he sagged down on the retracting chair, making himself comfortable before he dozed off, unknown to him that Macaque is currently suffering from embarrassmentMacaque grumbled as he set up the remaining scriptures to encircle the stage, Tang in the meanwhile was silently chuckling at the other end.
"I can hear you y’know?" Macaque sneered"I apologize, LBD is just such a great story teller!" Tang chuckled, recalling the story where Macaque had not managed to fully control the lantern and had every single demon in the premises have their other halves be teleported into the ceiling while the upper halves were stuck halfway on their shadows below, including Macaque himself"Remember those were a thousand years ago!! I already mastered it!""If you say so, 'sexy ears'" Tang teased"ENOUGH WITH THAT!"__________________________________________________________________________________After the whole debacle of preparing the city and with great effort that the citizens kept their hands to themselves, Macaque settled down in a small tall tower restaurant with his mentor, meanwhile, the girl stayed with Pigsy which he knows would be talking about MK and Mei since they were close in age and probably would want to introduce her to them."So I have heard you managed to court that stubborn fool," The possessed mayor said as he surveyed the whole city in its busy hour of a quarter til sunset"I- uh yes" Macaque answered"Explains why you seemed distracted very much back then, you were so busy thinking of him" LBD chuckled and took a sip of the champaign with pale hands
"I’am disappointed it took this long" She deadpanned and Macaque blanched"It's hard alright? He still had his circlet at that time and war came out shortly after! And then we got continuously tried to be assassinated. I don't think a ceremony would be best" Macaque explained
"But you could have done it in my realm, I would have loved to chat with your bonded" She smiled"Your realm as you know it, is pretty creepy"LBD laughed aloud at Macaque's comment and shook her head "You are a brat until today"____________________________________________________________________________________"So how is my to-be bonded doing?" Macaque asked as he slithered out of the shadows, the day’s hard work had him slumping down besides Wukong"Good, kind of nervous" Wukong chuckled"Oh cmon! We both are just gonna seat down on a sedan chair until we arrive in the park, no biggie. Then the mayor is going to say some things and we do the thing!" Macaque explained as he draped himself over the other's laugh to reach for the bowl of fruitsWukong laughed at Macaque's antics and went to ruffle the head of dark hair, "Yeah, sounds easy enough"
“Have you heard from MK by the way?” Macaque asked“Yeah… seems like they’re a bit preoccupied with saving the world. Again.” Wukong chuckled, he had received the letter 2 months ago, the MK crew had gone on a mission when they were asked for help in one of the outskirt areas of China, it was a snobby demon, reciting tales of how he would take over China and then the world, they decided to take it and let the monkeys rest their ‘old man bones’– Mei’s words, not theirs. It was absurd how many demons weaker than them were tough enough to speak about taking over, it's plain stupid.“Bless them for that” Macaque smiled, he missed fighting some guys but he preferred a more domestic life now.
The night was in full swing as both monkeys prepared themselves on the linear road that leads to the park. Residents, and fans but all are considered friends were all stationed by their windows, the streets, or the top of buildings with red floats in hand. Even residents of Flower Fruit Mountains were scattered among them, twigs of peach flowers decorated their hair as they also held onto red floats."Okay. . . I got this!" Wukong whispered to himself, hyping up as his clones snickered and lifted the sedan chair. On the other hand, in one of the top floors of a building, Ma was smirking as he held Liu who held a small float. “Go, Uncle Sun!” She cheered"Your uncle's gonna do well, just watch" He muttered to little Liu who nodded with a grinMacaque himself patted both his shoulders with a trembling smile and flickering tail, "I can’t believe this is happening"The music then played once both monkeys were seated, the echoing drums matched with the energetic flutes as they started with a slow rhythm and increased as they neared the center. It was a short distance but they slowed their steps. Right when a large firework popped, Wukong's chariot exploded in golden dust as they transformed into a beautifully designed dragon with the clones and Wukong himself controlling it under.
The crowd screamed in surprise and cheered as the music then changed into a more energetic and more dancy!"Alright, here we go!" Wukong grinned as they performed with the music, clones of his staff appearing as a stand that they stepped on until it became slightly higher than the buildings and they danced with the wind, gold petals fell from the sky as they dancedThe children applauded and cheered as they ran and followed the dancing dragon, going towards the other couple, Macaque looked around in surprise when the music suddenly changed, hair frisking as this should have happened!
He stared up front through the thin material that surrounded his sedan chair when cheers were made, gaping when a sleek dragon came out of the golden dust."Oh my Buddha"He watched, entranced as the dragon performed until it reached the sky and reached his position, it twirled around him and his shadow clones themselves grinned and followed it as well, splitting themselves into tiny dragons as well of fiery wisps as they danced with the golden dragon. At that moment too, Wukong couldn’t help but focus on Macaque’s comforting presence around and far from him, he smiled and danced his heart out like no one is watching them, all of this for his love.Macaque grinned as he saw a glimpse of golden fur and a smile-turning-grin he knew too well. His sedan chair moved forward and the dragon acted like a charming guard that followed until they reached the very center when he got out and stood with his head held high, the dragon made a last somersault and landed with his head bowed.At that point, the music paused, any other noise of the people was muffled as they focused on each other's presence at the very center of the city that is now their home and the land of their family and friends.Macaque smiled as he slowly and gently lifted the dragon's head like a veil and saw the face of his loving Wukong, all doned in golden and black makeup, symbolic tattoos, and runes engraved like his."Hey" Wukong smiled"Hey" Macaque returned the smileThe music went back in full swing as flower petals of different colors rained on them. The people and demons now threw a handful of them everywhere, creating a serene illusion of Autumn in the setting sun.As the cheers continued, they both went to the altar where the possessed mayor stood."I-LADY BONE DEMON?" Wukong exclaimed, the audience not noticing his sudden distress. On the side, Macaque watched"Why, hello" The mayor smiled"I- you’re not here to take over the realm again, are you?""Haha! Oh no! I’ve made my peace, monkey. Let’s just say that Lady Guanyin had provided me a second choice and path. I am here to visit my student as well as his to be bonded" LBD sighed and wistfully looked at them both.Wukong stared, eyes surveying the warlord for a bit before his expression turned soft, truth was all he can see. With peace, he can trust her.
"Pleasant to meet you, my bonded's mentor"There was no need to be hostile anymore, this is an era of peace where they will properly live their lives away
"A pleasant to meet you too, I bless you with new beginnings"Wukong smiled, and that's when he could vividly see LBD float out, her spirit entered the lantern that had been decorated on one of the flowers and a silhouette of hers formed with the dark murky shade.Both close families of the couple then entered and went behind them, a hand on their shoulder and the other's hand on their family's shoulder. It was obvious Macaque had such a small family with only LBD and the little girl except for the mayor because he would be officiating the bonding and Wukong had the monks or were-monks, his generals, and his brother. But in the end, they will be one family.The mayor says the standardized words, a little just for show for the sake of shared custom with the humans but at the end, he brought out two chalices of wine.
"With this wine, a symbol of all your love, your hatred and your indifference. A symbol to be consumed to become one, a chalice for one and the other" The mayor spoke, setting the chalice opposite of the other on a table and two golden knives in between."Each for you, to be mixed with blood and shall you drink its content, you accept their imperfections and preciousness"
The monkeys took a knife each, slitting a gash for blood to trickle on their finger, and dropped it on their respective chalice, the wine glowing with their colors once it touched the wine. At this point, their families went on the sidelines and stood with white floats."Take each other's chalice and hold it with pride.." The monkeys did"Then link your arms, and drink from it, shall that be your bond until the end."The monkeys looked at one another, eyes never leaving each other as they linked their arms and drank the chalice until nothing was left. Fireworks then flew and the floats were lifted off into the sky, reds and whites decorated the night sky, making the city glow further more"You are now bonde- AcK!!"The mayor was suddenly thrown off and separated the couple, three other voices screamed as they came in between them and landed on the mayor who groaned. Meanwhile, the audience all had different opinions whether the ceremony was a bust or not"MK! MEI! LITTLE RED!" Wukong laughed aloud as he saw their features, heart alight as he finally saw his student. Macaque after a stupor, he laughed and went to lift up the little ones off of the mayor and Wukong went to hug the three who hugged him back"You alright?" Macaque asked the mayor who sighed "It’s better than getting thrown I guess""Where have you been!?""Wellll, we got this as yall’s present" Mei grinned as she got out of Wukong's grip and went to the discarded bag and lifted a definitely celestial jar of high grade wine"Oh you did not-!" Macaque gaped and grinned"Yes we did""I’m guessing Red Son made the portal, great work" Wukong chuckled and ruffled his nephew's hair as the little demon puffed his chest in pride"Well now that we have wine to drink, let the party start!" Macaque grinned, at that point the music again played and now food was being served around by volunteers. The city celebrated with bright lights and music, and the lovers had time for themselves at the beach of Flower Fruit Mountain"Yeesh, you could see the lanterns from here huh" Wukong grinned from where he sat, a table is placed besides them with the wine on top.
"It should be bigger to show my love for you" Macaque chuckled and nuzzled his head on Wukong's neck who chittered and his tail wagged behind
"Yeah yeah""I’m glad MK and the others made it honestly" Wukong chuckled and nuzzled back
"Same here, still can’t get over how we met him" Macaque reminisced____________________________________________________________________________________
"Oh my Buddha.. He- HE CAN WIELD MY MY-" Wukong gaped as he pointed at the surprised mortal and human holding his very staff that he had left as the gate that stopped the banished demons under the Five Elements Mountain
"Your staff, yes" Macaque dumbly continued, staring at the human kid. They had felt the gate open and they had rushed back to the cave, thinking that a powerful demon had released the demonic spirits and it was a shock to find a teen.
"Uhh- am I supposed to not-?" The human, soon to be called MK grinned awkwardly, hands seemingly to try and bring it back.
"OF COURSE YOU COULD’NT HAVE"
"Whoops- sorry-"
"BUT YOU CAN!"
"Wha-???"
"YOU- are only- THE ONLY mortal who had managed to wield my staff! You- you have potential!" Wukong grinned as he went to inspect the boy, no magical amulets or any blessings were one him and this is just perfect for him!
"Whaaa???" MK asked, confused
Meanwhile, Macaque went to inspect the underground cave that had held the demons under and found no souls to be found, He sighed. The demons now have possibly gone on to look for hosts or a place to cultivate their physical bodies. They should be able to track them down with some spells but containing them would be easier in their weakened state.
"Yeah, what?" Macaque glanced at Wukong, questioning his sanity at this point
Sun Wukong let out an unintelligible noise of happiness before he stopped and faced MK with a stupid and wide grin.
"Kid, what do you think about being my student?"
MK gaped
