“Annie! We were out adventuring at the store and we found the perfect menorah for our very cool interfaith household!”Annie is genuinely touched that the boys bought a menorah. And that they remembered the word ‘menorah.’ But still, it’s going to be—“It’s a dinosaur!”Annie forces herself to smile as she takes the day-glo green thing. “This is definitely very cool, but um… it’s not kosher.”Troy’s eyes widen. “You have to eat it?”“Question,” says Abed. “Do we fry it first. I am an expert fry cook.”“No,” Annie says. “You don’t eat the menorah, it’s… it’s made of metal.”“It coulda been chocolate that looked like metal,” says Troy sulkily. “Like the gelt.”“That is a good point,” Annie concedes. “But, no, kosher for a menorah means that the candles are all level except for the shamash. The dinosaur is not level. But…” she grins for real and reaches under the sofa cushion. “I found a perfect menorah for our very cool interfaith household that is kosher…”“The bat symbol,” breathe both Troy and Abed.“Annie, you bat-mensch,” kvells Troy.“Cool,” says Abed. “Coolcoolcool.” He points at Annie. “Bruce Wayne is canonically Jewish in most continuities.”
