It was a slow week and Eggman hadn’t attacked in a while. Sonic, the energetic hedgehog he was couldn’t bear to sit still and do nothing. He had been staying at Tails’ place, and was struck with unimaginable boredom.“Gosh I wish Knucks was here…” Sadly, Tails was busy doing.. well whatever he does. (Sonic wasn’t too knowledgable about the specifics of what his little brother did, but he supported him nonetheless.) And he wouldn’t dare try taking the Tornado to Angel island, especially after the last time he crashed the plane, causing Tails to burst into tears.Tapping his feet anxiously, Sonic groaned as he made his way out of the workshop.“I’ll just take a couple laps around the island… yeah.” And hopefully as he ran he’d figure out what else to do to counter this creeping anxiousness.***Since the day Knuckles was born he’d always thought of guarding the Master Emerald as a great honor, and had looked up to the guardians that did so.But for a while now he was beginning to rethink that…“It’s very… quiet..” He gazed around the altar for any suspicious movements, perhaps he was hoping that something would happen. Or more that, someone, would happen. The wind whistled and brushed against his dreads, and for a moment, he could spot something blue in the distance.As if on instinct, his legs moved towards that vivid blue in a sort of eagerness. “That damn Hedgehog always trying to sneak up on me…” He grumbled.Now with a better view, that blue that caught his eye instead was a flower. He curiously crouched down and looked at it. “I’ve never seen such a flower on the island before… perhaps a new species?”Though, now realizing that it wasn’t that annoying hedgehog, he felt quite disappointed. He sighed as he plopped down beside the flower, of course, with a good view of the Master Emerald in the distance.Hugging his knees, he pouted “When is that Hedgehog going to visit me again?” Knuckles had gotten used to his presence on the island, in fact, he could count the days he wasn’t on the island than when he was.“Well… hmpf, as his b-boyfriend, I should pay him a visit.” It had been nearly a week since he’d seen the blue blur, he couldn’t stand it anymore.He glanced at the blue flower, and stuck a nearby stick next to it. “His birthday is coming soon.” He mumbled as he stood up and let towards the alter.Ever since he’d open up to Sonic and his crew, there were a couple of… changes in his life. One being the safety of the Master Emerald. Tails had offered to put up defenses around the emerald to protect it when Knuckles would leave the island.Rolling up his left glove a bit, “What button was I supposed to press?” A red and yellow accented device revealed itself. “Uh, Sonic… oh right, blue.” Pressing it, the defenses showed themselves. Satisfied, Knuckles left…***Knuckles found himself inside an empty workshop, he called out for Sonic with no response. “That damn hedgehog, making me come all the way here for nothing.” He grumbled as he took a seat on one of the stools.Now that he was here, Knuckles began to miss the blue hedgehog even more than ever. His bright and energetic voice, slightly annoying yet cute personality. Hm he missed when they would cuddle back at the nest on Angel island, his scent of the grass and sun…Knuckles snapped out of his daydream and wiped the drool off his flushed face. Perhaps he missed him more than he thought.***“4th? No, 6th. Ugh, man it’s on days like these that I wish eggman would attack.” Sonic was lying on the grass as he rolled around in boredom. His ears perked up suddenly, “Maybe Tails is back by now!” With this sudden thought he ran back to Tails’ lab in hope.Opening the door “Tails! Bud you here yet? I know you’re busy and all that but-” What greeted him was someone else, someone.. red…”Knucks!” He jumped on the echidna in excitement, nearly knocking him off the stool.“Sonic!?” Knuckles could barely comprehend what was happening, one second he was staring off into space, and the next Sonic was jumping on him!Standing up from the stool with the hedgehog still attached to him, Knuckles couldn’t hold back his happiness as he hugged Sonic tightly.Reluctantly they separated for a moment before Sonic touched the tip of his nose with Knuckles’.Blushing, they locked hands together as they rubbed noses. Mumbling under his breath,”I missed you so much Sonic…” Giggling, at the echidna’s cuteness, Sonic whispered back “Hehe, me too, it felt like forever without you.”The sound of a door opening immediately startled the couple who were in their own world. It was Tails who had finally come back, his timing couldn’t be more impeccable.Thinking of the only way to get out of this, they began to pretend fight as they pushed each other back with their interlocked hands, noses still touching.Tails walked by them, completely focused on his tablet as he scratched his head.Going off to a far corner of the workshop, completely zoned in on his work, the two were completely ignored. Sweating, “Should we go somewhere a bit more… Private?” Sonic suggested.“Y-yeah.” Knuckles said, his heart had almost leaped out of his chest.Leading him out of the workshop, Sonic smirked “Since you’re here, we might as well catch up on what we missed the past week.” Knuckles blushed as his grip on Sonic’s had tightened, “Yeah…”
