Spencer groaned, feeling his joints complaining loudly. His left knee was screaming at him that it was out of place, his fingers felt swollen and hot, and his back was aching."Hey, how're you feeling?" Luke asked, standing next to Spencer's head."uuhg," he muttered non-commitally into the mattress."That good? Have you taken your meds?""mmm.""Have they kicked in yet?""uhnu.""Okay- I'm gonna go get my laptop and then I'll be back okay?"Luke returned after a minute and sat down on the floor next to the bed. Despite feeling like a hippo was sitting on his neck, Spencer dragged his head out of the mattress to look at his partner. Luke smiled gently, "Hey. You good if I sit here? I can leave if you want to sleep."Spencer shook his head weakly against the mattress. "Please stay." He whispered."Okay. Will do." Luke smiled at him before looking down at his laptop.Spencer watched him through barely open eyes. He looked deep in concentration, typing quickly. Spencer wished that that was what he was doing right now. Thankfully it was the weekend, and the BAU had no open cases at the moment, so he hadn't had to take time off. But he did have some research he had planned on doing today, and there was always more books to be read.Anyway, it didn't matter what he wanted to do with his day because now here he was. Stuck in bed. Again. He considered if letting himself cry was worth it. He was fed up enough to, and goodness knows his body hurt enough to. However, he also knew that crying would just make everything hurt more. So it would probably be for the best if he didn't. Instead he just lay there and tried to let his brain be numbed by the drowsiness just starting to come from his medications.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Spencer. Hey. Spence."Spencer felt his consciousness being pulled up by Luke's words."I'm sorry to wake you, but it's time for your next dose. Can I help you sit up?"Spencer winced as Luke helped him maneuver his clumsy limbs so he was lying on his back. The room spun as Luke carefully pulled him up to sitting, propping the pillows behind him."Luke, bucket." He spluttered out past the rising nausea. Luke turned, and seeing the green tinge in Spencer's face, hastily shoved a bowl into his lap. Spencer gagged a few times futilely, which only made his back ache more.Luke sat down on the bed in front of him, patiently holding a glass of water and Spencer's medication. "Finished?" He asked, reaching to offer the cup in exchange for the bowl."Yeah."Spencer sipped gingerly at the water Luke handed him, swallowing each of his tablet at a time."How are you travelling?" Luke asked, looking caringly at Spencer's face."Eh," he shrugged, "everything still hurts about the same.""That sucks. And mentally?""Pretty over it all.""I think that's fair.""I'm just tired and sore. I had things I wanted to do today, and I feel like the weekend's been wasted.""Yeah. Did sleeping help at all?""Maybe a little? Will probably still have to take tomorrow off though.""I know you're gonna hate me for saying this, but I'm really proud of you for knowing that and listening to your body.""Well it's not like I have much of a choice Luke.""Maybe, but previously you would have just pushed through with copious amounts of coffee, and dealt with the consequences later. I know it's hard to feel good about it, but this is progress Spence. And I'm so proud of you."Spencer looked at Luke incredulously. He knew that what his partner said was probably correct, unclouded by his own pessimism and pain-clouded interpretations. He smiled minutely. "Can you help me back down please?""Definitely. Gonna sleep for a bit longer? Or would you like to do something?""Just feeling a bit unsteady." Spencer said, feeling the blood travel back to his head once he was horizontal again. "Maybe we could watch something? If you can?""Sounds like a plan. I ate dinner while you were asleep, so I'm all set to cozy up with my boyfriend for the night."Luke's grin practically radiated from his face. As he set about turning their bed into a nest; making sure Spencer's joints were all supported, that there was plenty of room for both of them, and finally, sourcing a fleecy throw blanket for himself.Spencer reflected that he felt warm, not just with pain this time, but also deep love for his partner.Luke turned the TV on to some action movie with the volume low. Spencer was too tired to properly follow the plot, but he didn't care. He knew he was safe, and he knew that he was with the person he loved most.
