The setting sun has always given Sammy a sense of calm and control over her spiraling life. She still couldn’t completely comprehend why she felt at peace on watching a sun set and she isn’t going to dwell on it either now, she just continued enjoying her time watching the sunset. Despite the undeniable love for sunsets, Sammy couldn’t remember when was the last time she enjoyed watched a sunset. Her life for the last eight years has been a chaotic rush, spending every single awaken second in chasing her dreams building the life she so desired. Chasing success, identity and money which for better part Sammy had achieved too. However, sitting in her childhood room, watching the sun setting she may doubt that believe now. Feeling that she has been deceiving herself all along. Not that she hadn’t created herself a name, success and money in these eight years however, how weak was the foundation that it has already started to crumble? Last two years have been, for a better word, weird. The success had started to stall, glam of her high-rise penthouse in New York dimmed when it remained devoid of affection. Not that Sammy hadn’t dated or hadn’t been a committed relationship, she had various flings, affairs and romance with alphas, betas and even omegas (given that her being an omega didn’t help much in case of dating other omegas) but no matter what somehow, they all seemed to be exhausted and leave her. She didn’t express much, she wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction of her vulnerabilities, but it did hurt and it pained a lot. The suppressed emotions were what catching up with her now – the reason her friend/mentor/boss told her before sending her on mandatory leaves. This how she found her way back in Thailand. Her motherland, the same land that she found cagy and limiting. The country that seemed to not have the means to fulfill her American life dreams. So, at 22, Sammy had left for United States to never comeback but the irony of having all these thoughts at 30 in her childhood room in Bangkok wasn’t lost her on. Her mother’s nagging had won in the end. Here she was back to her Thai roots, the same roots she so didn’t identify with at 22 and wanted to escape with desperations, now for the last two days she started questioning why her twenty-two-year-old self, found it suffocating. She landed two days ago to spend Christmas and new years with her family and in the last two days her relatives hadn’t stopped visiting her – being proud of her success, happy for her and wishing her even more of these. Her friends, her old classmates and batchmates – the one whom she had deliberately isolated from after moving to the States, were rather enthusiastic to meet her and catch up with her. In the last two days she felt much more loved and needed than she has in these past eight years. Making her feel question why she wanted to leave behind these people, these relations, her alpha. “Sammy, are you ready? We are getting late.” Sammy doesn’t remember why she agreed on driving alone with a humongous tree tied to her truck! Was she blind that she missed the thick sheet of snow on the road! Whatever, it wasn’t her fault. It was the stupid old truck’s fault. Now all she had to do was wait for the mechanic her father so gracefully called for her. What she didn’t expect was the mechanic turn out to be her Alpha – Ex-alpha – Phayu.
Phayu, her childhood sweetheart, the one whom she dated from her pre-teens, the one whom she brutally left behind. The thud in her heart reminded her the pained eyes of Phayu on the break-up day. “I wasn’t expecting you.” “That should be my line. Welcome back, Sammy.” The ever-handsome Phayu, remained true to the tag, growing even more handsome. Defined jaw, strong muscles, the only changing being his now grown hair tied in a top knot. The eyes still so beautiful and expressive however today they weren’t as readable as once it had been for Sammy. Something shattered in her though when she heard her name from his mouth. In 10 years of their relationship, Phayu had hardly addressed her by her name, it was always Omega. Was she being foolish? Yes. Obviously. She broke up with him 8 years ago, blocked him and never replied to any of the letters he sent her. It had found them annoying and Phayu a little creepy for not taking the break up and continuously contacting her. After first 4 letters, Sammy had just started trashing those letters without even opening them. She doesn’t clearly remember when the letters stopped but if she had to guess maybe the last letter was on her 23rd birthday – a month shy from her completing one year in US. “How are you, Phayu?” “I’m doing good. How have you been?” Phayu spoke as he started working on the truck. Being polite, friendly and diligent. The Phayu she remembered, the Phayu she had loved, the Phayu she found limiting her. Sammy exhaled loudly; feeling confused. She couldn’t hold the 22-year-old Sammy at fault – it’s just her two years of loneliness speaking. A relationship with Phayu was definitely burdening and would have limited her from achieving her dreams. “Something wrong?” “Huh?”Phayu’s question catching her off-guard. “You breathed quiet loudly, everything okay?” The ever so caring Phayu, Sammy had actually forgotten how it felt to be taken care of; well now was not the time. “Yeah, all good, just awkward! You know.” “I understand. Sorry to inform you but this truck needs the garage.” Oh, great more awkwardness. Complete opposite actually, Sammy ended up catching up with Phayu. Phayu wasn’t rude rather friendly although his twin and best friend were upset with her presence Phayu remained the gentle host. Something felt settling within Sammy with that meeting. Maybe it was the closure she needed. Then she met him again, in the market where she was stuck again this time unable to decide what to get her classmate’s kid for birthday. It had led them to get a coffee together – an hour spent together laughing and reminiscing early childhood and school times. Although Phayu had been constantly on the phone but never ignoring her. The distance still hanging. For some reason that irritated Sammy but she wasn’t the one to complain or had the right for that matter. The next time she met Phayu it was in a time of misery; Sammy had one of her colleagues call her to let her know how her most prominent client was being poached by the competitor. And Sammy had tried, her best to save the situation but had ended up losing the client. She broke down in front a bakery getting the looks and whispers in her direction.Phayu had been there to pick up some cookies but sat down with her giving her a shoulder to vent her emotions, all the emotions that remain suppressed for God only knows how long. That evening they had finally discussed their break up and reasons. Again, Phayu was on his phone every time a specific ping came through but other than that Phayu was very present with her. Something in her just wanted to shake Phayu and ask his focus on her, which it seemed she did verbalize only for Phayu to create some distance between them and pretend she never said it. Of-course it had to be awkward, how they ended it couldn’t heal in one conversation but now she will make it heal. After that day she started trying to contact Phayu, try to meet him, and generally have more time with Phayu however, it remained a try. Phayu had been busy either with his architecture job or garage or for some reason home. But nonetheless, she’ll get the chance today. At P’Mohk’s Christmas party. In all these times Sammy finally realized how stupid she was to only think her career as her entire life. She was stupid to not realized that Phayu, her alpha, would have never limited her possibilities and dreams. She was evil to think that Phayu’s love was just a phase and controlling. Tonight, she’ll get that rectified – this is her Christmas miracle. Her second chance and she is going to make it right. Sammy kept fun conversations going between her and her friends, tried to have a cordial conversation with Saifah and Prapai however she was treated like she didn’t exist – all the while continuously keeping an eye at the entrance; waiting for Phayu with waited breath. When another omega makes an entry, Sammy pays little to no attention to him until she hears all the excited “Rain” coming from Mohk, Saifah, Prapai and his omega Sky (maybe?). That had her attention – full attention. Who was this omega who had the entire group’s excited for his presence. Curiosity got her stepping near to the group, eavesdropping the conversation. The exact moment Phayu chose to make his entry, all smiling and glowing. “I didn’t know Snowman was assisting Santa this year.” “P’Phayu, Sky is making fun of me because of you!” Rain whined as the group laughed at the cuteness. “Stop teasing Rain, you guys.” “It is all your fault!” Rain, in his true self, crossed his arms and turned his face the other way, pouting. Fighting the scarf around his neck that covered him all the way up till his nose. Moving his chin around to finally win dominance over the scarf and bunching it down, finally freeing his face from the scarf. “I’m sorry, sùt-tîi-rák, but accuse me once you have built immunity against cold, okay.” “Meanie! Mean husband!” Making Phayu stifle a chuckle nonetheless receiving a side eye from Rain while Phayu gently unwrapped his 7 layered cocooned Omega. Revealing Rain wearing one of Phayu’s over-sized hoodie, as the final layer, the hem reaching near mid-thighs and gave him sweater paws yet failing to hide the beautiful bulge of the Omega’s tummy – the glow on his face, dusted with pink, and smiling ear to ear. One look at the Omega and anyone would know he was expecting. Looking the way Phayu sniff kissed the glowing Omega’s cheek while protectively holding his mate’s pregnant belly. A moment that would let people to melt with sweetness and love however to Sammy it was nothing less than wolfsbane growing in her heart, burning her existence from within. She didn’t realise when she moved across the room. What she knew was she couldn’t take her eyes off of the Omega in her alpha’s arms or for that matter her ears. Despite all the pain it got her she just couldn’t stop herself. Who was this Omega? Why was he with her alpha? If you ask her, he was okayish looking man but nothing that should stand next to Phayu. Yet here he was sitting next Phayu, what should have been her place. It didn’t take much for her to get the Omega’s back story and how he met Phayu. “He was Phayu’s code line junior.”
“I think they first met on Christmas eve, apparently Rain was stuck in heavy snowfall and his car’s engine had gone cold. Some old man had called Phayu’s garage to help Rain.”
“Phayu helped Rain with his car on the night of code line meeting too. Some old man had asked Rain for help while he was starting his car and in the process to help the old man Rain had locked the keys inside the car.”
“It was hard to believe that Rain was dating Phayu given how much he had bad mouthed him in front of Som.”
“One day, Phayu strolled in to café near the university and announced he was here to pick up his mate, Rain got up and proudly walked out with Phayu.”
Phayu had moved on from her in an year? That’s what it was worth? 10 years and one meeting is all it took? Every new information further acted as a salt on her injuries. Yet she couldn’t look away and stub the pain. Unable to not imagine that it should be her with bulging tummy, sitting next to Phayu and smiling. Rain wanted lean back and rest on back pillows of the couch however the space between the seat and the back pillow that if Rain tried to lean back he would be partially lying down. The other way was to scoot back but a) any movement with that pregnant belly was a task – a task that would take way more time than Rain wished. b) even if he did all those work and scoot back his feet then would dangle in air – and that is embarrassing!
So he did what came naturally to him, he tugged at his alpha’s arm and simply pouted. That’s it – a pout.
Sammy watched; as Phayu smiled at the omega, grazing him softly like his whole universe sat in front of him before he scooted back a little and then pulled the omega in his arms. Making him lean on his chest – acting like the backrest for Rain. “I heard the project was hit in Vietnam. Congratulations Varian!” Sammy heard Mohk say, a tinge of proudness clearly audible in his voice. “At seven month pregnancy you not only delivered a successful luxurious resort but as well as won another bid for resort in Singapore!” The room broke in loud cheers and applauses, only for the omega to turn red and the alpha looking proud – prouder than anyone in the room. “Can we have two words from our best architect?” Rain tried his best to deny, still flushed hard with all the praises but when Phayu softly creased his belly and tilted his head, signaling to take the spot and address the audience. The alpha helped Rain stand up and then shifted to stand behind him and hold the belly gently – lifting it up and helping Rain with the weight. Instantly making feel light and sigh. Rain smiled at his mate – his eyes full of love for the man. He turned around confidence in his stance and smile on his face. “Thank you so much P’Mohk for all the kind words. I have always loved buildings and the idea of how many stories each building contains within its walls. It is challenging but equal parts rewarding. It really is an honor to work as an architect and create beautiful buildings however, I cannot take all these appreciation without being grateful to the real reason I’m able to live my dream.” Looking over his shoulder he gave his alpha his bunny smile, the one that his alpha found the most magical in the world. “I cannot thank the universe enough for making me meet P’Phayu. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be who I am today.” Rain shook his head stopping his alpha to deny any of that. “Ever since I have met P’Phayu, he has been my safe space and a comfort. Making me responsible and disciplined as a student, making me confident in my vision and preparing for the real world. Even for this project had it not been for P’Phayu I would have definitely given it up. It came to me when I was just few weeks into pregnancy and all the nausea, morning sickness, moodiness and pain I had I really wanted to just stay away in my nest. But then P’Phayu stepped up always making it comfortable for me. I was supposed to live in Vietnam for 2 months and Phi decided to drop all his work and travel with me – for 2 months he has been alternating every week between here and Vietnam taking care of me, his job and garage. I don’t know how to word this more accurately but I wouldn’t be able to achieve half my dreams had I not have P’Phayu as my mate. … It’s the hormones I promise.” Rain wiped his tears with his sweater paws as he finished his little speech, bringing his alpha to tears too along with many others in the room. Everyone in some aspect had been witnessed their journey as couple to mates and were beyond joyous seeing their love blossom to even greater heights. “I love you too sùt-tîi-rák and I cannot wait to official register as your mate & husband.” “Wait WHAT!?” What Phayu had meant to be only for Rain’s ear had drum rolled to everyone else too, receiving the loud reaction from Saifah & Prapai.“oops” The Omega in Phayu’s arms giggled. “We are registering our bond next week in a small ceremony and I hope everyone can come be part of our happy moment.” Phayu spoke eloquently, politely inviting his friends for his bonding ceremony. Not noticing the one person sitting and crying – unlike others hers were the tears of pain and devastation. Sammy sat through the entire celebration as she superficially played along the secret Santa and other games. It was like a stab but she not for once had taken eyes off of the omega next to her alpha – noting and comparing what all he lacked and exactly what plan he devised that he took her life away. She sat through as Phayu serenade to Rain. She sat through as Phayu peeled shrimps and hand feed Rain who sat lost in a conversation. She sat through as Phayu gently massaged Rain’s back while sipping hot chocolate. She sat through as Phayu teased Rain; making Rain hide in his chest. She sat through as Phayu scented Rain whenever he tugged & pouted. She sat through as Phayu just couldn’t stop staring at the omega. Her eyes continue following the couple who remained joint by the hip. Isn’t this what she wanted? A partner who was supportive and proud of her achievements and dreams but what she got were annoyed partner constantly arguing over stupid texts replies. This was supposed to be her life and her alpha and this was her Christmas miracle. And Phayu was her first she wasn’t losing her alpha to a nothing omega! She had no plan but just the urge to get an opportunity and it presented itself. Rain got up and excused himself to walk for a few minutes, he really had to growl at Phayu to let him be alone – Phayu & Mohk were discussing something crucial for their firm with one of the friends who wanted to invest for a new building for the diplomats. Rain really didn’t want to disrupt the flow of it by taking Phayu away. He took the fluffiest jacket of Phayu and walked out of the house. Smiling at the scene – it was snowing now if only he could have another cup of hot chocolate but damn his alpha! Rain pouted at the thought itself. It was chilly but refreshing – Rain took another deep breath and gave himself 5 minutes otherwise his alpha will come out running all worried & concerned – his stupid (cute) alpha.
“So, you’re the one living my life.” Rain turned around, as carefully as he could, to find another omega standing. Her pheromones sour and bitter making Rain feel uncomfortable the same feeling he was escaping by coming out. “Excuse me?” Rain tried to be as polite as possible despite the challenge the other person’s omega send his way. “Are you playing dumb or just forgetful?” Rain rolled his eyes, putting protective hand over his belly Rain let the sarcasm flow. “Clearly not memorable enough to be remembered, now are you.” The anger coursed through Sammy’s veins. Turning red she took a threatening step towards Rain. “I’m Phayu’s omega, Sammy. The one you’ve been substituting for but now I’m back. Leave. My. Alpha. Alone!” Rain’s omega growled at the omega – releasing territorial pheromone. “Call my alpha, My Phayu, yours again and no one will be able to recognize your face. Understood?” Sammy gritted as she stepped closer to Rain – how dare he!
“Do you even know where Phayu has been these past few weeks? With me! With his first and only love! How does that feel knowing “your alpha” was with his actual mate.” Rain stepped back suddenly all his anger replaced with pity.
Covering his belly with his alpha’s jacket, Rain smiled at Sammy. “You’re Sammy? Sammy the girlfriend who disappeared on P’Phayu.” That took Sammy aback; the smile and calmness felt humiliating. “I’m back now! You can stop being my substitute.” Rain chuckled, relaxing even further before continuing. “You are not going to rile me up if that’s what you wish to achieve.” Growling Sammy spoke; “I’m not playing childish games here I’m here to take Phayu back, which for your information he is very much interested in.” Rain just shook his head, taking it as an action of dismay Sammy continued further; “Before acting this holy why don’t you ask where Phayu was while you were in Vietnam.” “Who was he meeting? Spending time laughing & reminiscing the past with?” “I know he met you; I know about all three times. But what you fail to notice is that all those three times were chance meetings and the moment you wanted to meet him – he was just too busy. All the three times that you did meet and conversed my P’Phayu made sure to keep texting me.” Rain remained calm but eventually let out a big sigh. He wanted fresh air not this drama he wanted this to end and for him to be next to his alpha. “Look P’ Sammy, if your plans are to make me question my P’Phayu and our bond – then you’re wasting your time. For all I care you can continue having these chance meeting with my mate but it’s not going yield you any favourable results because I know my P’Phayu and I trust him. Maybe the cold has numbed your logical sense and you have failed to notice that P’Phayu is indifferent towards you. He has no emotions or feelings for you at all. No love, no like, no hatred either. To him you are like another random stranger with him he is polite.” Rain brought his palm in front of Sammy, stopping her from speaking. “And if you’re going to bring that one meeting where P’Phayu and you discussed your relationship then let me tell you I asked P’Phayu to do so because from whatever he was telling me you were looking for a closure – this is how indifferent P’Phayu is to you that he sat there talking about the whole past because I asked him to after that meeting he came back to me and when I asked whether he wanted to discuss you he just shrugged and continued talking about the annoying client he is dealing at the firm. So, yes please save your energy and my patience and see the reality.” Sammy scoffed, “You’re just trying to placate yourself with those big sentences.” Rain rolled his eyes – he had enough. “P’Phayu had begged your mother day and night for your address and then flown to USA to meet you and restore your and his relationship. But YOU broke it again! he stood outside your building, waiting for you the entire day to only find you getting out of a cab with another stranger kissing and ripping his clothes away. I don’t know why you are suddenly back in love with P’Phayu when you left him without a word. For a whole year P’Phayu had tried to do everything in his power to get his girlfriend back but when he saw you so easily in someone else’s arms. That’s when he was done, unlike you who just thought about herself and completely ignored the other person in the relationship. And I don’t know why you are here being so confident in your love when you have done nothing to build or save this relationship along with living your dream. You don’t have to give up your dream to be in a relationship and don’t have to break up to live your dream. If you had tried, with a partner like P’Phayu, you would have successfully built both your dream and your relationship but you didn’t and you are so pathetic to stand here and trying to bully a heavily pregnant omega when you even haven’t read a single letter from P’Phayu for the entire year – you know how I know? Because P’Phayu had told me that he had written you the last letter on your birthday telling you what he saw and how he will never be the one holding you in an unwanted relationship. Realize that you lost it all because of you. So, please stop wasting either of our times and grow up.” “Rain?” Sammy stood rooted to her place still trying to digest the new piece of information. Not even turning at Phayu’s voice. “Sùt-tîi-rák, you have been out for long. Come on in waanjai.” “Sure Phi, is it time for our ritual?” “Almost time, sùt-tîi-rák. Cmon lets get you warm & cozy.” “Oh, Sammy. I hope you’re enjoying the party. Please do have the dinner before you leave. I’ll take my mate inside – see you later.” Phayu spoke with politeness before wrapping his arm around the omega’s waist and helping him inside the house. Phayu had acted like a perfect host but that’s it. Just like he had acted the first time they met – he acted like the perfect mechanic and a long-lost friend catching up. He had no emotions towards her not even hatred and that had Sammy breaking down. She just couldn’t come back and resume a life that she had so brutally destroyed. And she continued to do so. Rain was right she was always choosing rather than making it both work. Sammy hated the gut of the other omega but she wasn’t stupid to not realize her mistake when thrown in her face. She was going to work upon herself but mostly say goodbye to guy Mr.Right whom she lost. She wiped her tears, took a moment to look presentable and then walked inside the house bid everyone a bye and told Phayu a goodbye who reciprocated with good bye too most probably understanding the implication, capturing the smile Sammy left the desire to resume her 8-year-old life in Thailand. She didn’t know exactly what she will do but what she did know was that it was time to work on herself than keep ruining her life and dreams. Phayu Rain stood on the side of the road, the same road where they had met for the first time, looking up the sky. Phayu’s alarm rang indicating it was midnight, both Phayu & Rain closed their eyes, joined their hands in wai and thanked the stars & the old man of north palace for bringing them together. Phayu looked over his lover, the moon light falling onto his face highlighting the features and making them appear soft and ethereal. “Merry Christmas my Christmas miracle.” Rain giggled then gave his Phayu’s favourite bunny smile, “Merry Christmas to my Christmas miracle too.” With that Rain leaned in and Phayu more than happily obliged and left many kisses on his omega’s lips. Eliciting even more giggles from his soulmate. “I’m sorry, Sùt-tîi-rák.”
Rain sighed before dramatically rolling his eyes – “You should thank our pup for making me feel happy because if not for these hormones you would be sleeping out of the nest for the next week. You had one ex and she decided to be annoying as if your fans were any less.” Phayu chuckled before bringing their foreheads together and giving Rain his nose-crunch-eyes smile. “I love you Rain.” “I love you too P’Phayu.” ~FIN🌪️🌧️~
