----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Welcome to Fan Life, a fan season of the Life Series.
We are twelve fanfiction writers and artists on a small minecraft server with the goal to be the last person standing.
This time, everyone has six lives. On 4+ lives, you have a dark green name, on three lives you have a lime green name, two lives you have a yellow one and of course, when you reach your last life you turn red.Red names have all of their friendships and ties broken and become hostile; they can also team up with other red names, so watch out for that. This season we will also have the boogeyman. At the beginning of every session the server admin,
my friend (bundlesled), will randomly and secretly select a non-red name on the server to become the boogeyman, or maybe more than one, who knows? The boogeyman has one job: secure a kill on a green or yellow name to be cured. While you're the boogeyman all friendships and alliances are out the window, do what you must to be cured, because if you don't, the next session you are onto the next coloured life.
We also have another special twist this season: boss mobs drop lives. Upon killing a boss mob like the warden, a “heart” will drop and you may use it to gain a life, or trade it, who knows?
Now, enough explaining, let’s get into the first session.
{Sam POV}
She rubbed her palm with her hand, listening to quiet chatter of her friends as they all waited for the games to start. Beneath the surface, she was buzzing with nerves and excitement towards what the game could bring. It was a really new experience, so her nerves were probably reasonable. They were currently standing in a circle they’d managed to coordinate with each other enough to make, the sun was just barely peeking over the horizon. Beneath her feet was coarse and normal dirt, mixed together the closer they got to the center. At said center, there were two things to be seen. One of which was a large pot with a lush azalea bush growing tall and proud from it.The other was one other than Tania Healer.Tania stood at the center of the circle, fluffy golden ears perked and tail swishing happily. Her hands were intertwined behind her back as she looked over us all. Her eyes gleamed in the light, her smile turned to a beaming grin as she stepped forward.“Welcome, my lovely Void Leapers, to Fan Life.”
<3 <3 <3
She chopped trees with her wooden axe, listening to it meet the tree in a steady beat in the somewhat silence that surrounded her. All the others were probably off on their own adventures, getting settled and exploring for the early game loot.Distantly, there was a crunch of grass and the sound breaking blocks from behind her. She was currently at the base of a hill, but at the top, she saw Stormy, working away at a particularly tall oak tree. She smiled, raised her axe, a stick that had fallen from the tree, and clicked the two against each other. They thudded loudly upon impact, loud enough to get Stormy’s attention. They looked at her, brushing their light violet hair away from their eyes when it fell in front of their face, and smiled. “Hey, Sam!”She smiled back. “Hi, Stormy!”There was a flash of lag, a light haze as the world sped up and slowed down at random around her. She shook her head lightly as if to clear it away. She gave a wave farewell and headed off to find a place she could call home.
<3 <3 <3
She scaled the tall mountain, one littered in tall birch trees and mossy green grass at its peak. The sun setting wasn’t visible from where she stopped to breathe, but the moon was rising slowly behind her.
The world was illuminated in dim evening light from the moon and stars above, glistening down as if they too were watching the events unfold. She stopped on a ledge, sitting down in the soft patch of grass and letting her legs hang over the edge. She took the moment to stop her travels and just exist for a minute. It was so surreal, she was really there, playing this game with real people and not just stuck on her lonesome like she’d done for so long. Her friends were scattered around and getting up to whatever they’d like and it was all so real. What was also very much real, was the possible dangers of the nighttime.
As beautiful as the moon was, she had to bid the sky farewell since mobs wouldn’t be too kind to her being out at nightfall.
So, she turned around and mined a small entrance into the mountain. She opened the area up a bit and covered the entrance halfway to keep some light in.She slipped off her backpack and searched around for any useful materials she’d collected throughout the day. There were a couple logs of oak and birch, two sticks, a sapling, and a couple planks. She crafted the planks into a crafting table, then she made a stone pickaxe, tapping it against the wall to ensure it was sturdy. She smiled when it held strong. She then dug out a small staircase, about five blocks down and two blocks tall per step. She used the stone collected to make a furnace, digging out a small slot in the wall and replacing the now empty spot with a furnace. She put her remaining planks into the fuel slot, and started to burn a couple logs for charcoal. Warmth and light radiated from the furnace. She let out a content exhale, rubbing her hands together and covering up the rest of thr entry to keep in the warmth. She carefully took out a piece of charcoal, gloves keeping her mostly safe from the heat. She blew on it, flapping her light gold wings in hopes of cooling it down. She folded them back neatly and pulled out a stick, attaching the charcoal to the edge and waving it around to ensure it didn’t fall off. She knelt down and dragged it across a strip of sandpaper on the side of her shoe in a swift motion. The torch burst into a warm and bright flame, illuminating her little hidey hole just as the furnace’s light dimmed. She repeated the process as she extended her staircase, placing torches along the wall periodically. Her vision hazed, the world stopped and started without pattern. She took a breath, leaning against the wall as a dull ache made itself painfully known. She tried to do a couple things. She tried to ignore the ever growing haze, the ache in her head she couldn’t rid of, the way the world froze and sped up and undid and redid, the way her vision started to spot. She tried to stay awake. She failed.
<3 <3 <3
She opened her eyes blearily, a small ache in her body from the position she’d been in as the one in her head retreated. She blinked away the haze and leaned against the wall, using it as a support to stand. She found four identical walls, ones of untouched stone, none of them showed no sign of where she’d come from.It was as if she’d never mined down here to begin with, which didn’t make sense because she was very much there.Digging out a bit in all four directions, there was nothing but stone. Confused, she dug up a couple blocks as well, but there was no sign of the staircase.A wave of dizziness nearly swept her off her feet from just how sudden it was. She groaned quietly, trying to see through clouding vision. She decided to reach a hand out to support herself on another wall, and found it alarmingly closer than it had been before. She turned and reached in the other direction, more stone within arms reach. She put a shaky hand in the direction of the final wall, it pushed her hand back towards her as it crept in closer, and showed no signs of stopping either. She tried not to panic, but being in a dark and shrinking box that was actively trying to crush her seemed like a mighty fine reason to panic. She pulled out her comm and scrambled to message just about anyone, as if it could save her. <MoDoubleSS> Tania I need help MoDoubleSS suffocated in a wallShe shot up, looking around wildly while her heart beat in her ears. She took a couple steadying breaths, trying to calm her racing heart while ridding of the post-respawn haze. Her back was to the cold flowerpot, the sun was approaching the center of the sky, and she heard something she couldn’t place.“Sam!” A familiar voice called out from behind her.She turned to the sound and saw none other than Jonas. He stood atop a crafting table, hands cupped around his mouth. She smiled softly, shoulders relaxed and head cleared, letting the unease and stress of her death be a topic for another time, and headed down the hill to him. When she came into range of him, he looked at her with a mixture of amusement and disbelief. “How!?”“It’s not my fault!” She defended, though she couldn’t help but smile at her own bad luck.He raised his hands in a mock surrender, stepping down from the crafting table to ground level. “What happened?”She shook her head, smiling tiredly. “It’s a really long story, I think I was halfway between passing out for most of it.He sighed, nodding in understanding, but after a moment, he handed her some cobble. “Take it, you probably need it.”She took it gratefully, slipping it into her bag for future use. “Thanks, Jonas! See ya!” She thanked as she ran off again, off towards where she assumed the mountain was in hopes of finally climbing it.“Don’t go dying again!”
She laughed quietly to herself as his voice faded away.
<3 <3 <3
She slowed down when approaching a small ledge, she knelt down while keeping a hand on the grass to act as support, peering over for anything of use. There was a glint of something, and as she looked closer, she found it to be iron. She perked up at the sight of the shiny ore. “Ooh, iron!”
She dropped down from the ledge, landing in a crouch and coming closer to examine the iron. It’s shine separated it from the dull rock. She went to reach for a pickaxe from her bag, except, as she’d barely respawned, she didn’t have much of anything aside from what Jonas had gifted.Thankfully, there were a couple trees just behind her, but strangely enough, there were already logs on the ground even though she hadn’t touched them. She looked at it for a moment before shrugging and picking it up. She crafted a new table, then some planks for sticks, then a pickaxe. She turned back to the iron and mine it out. It ended up as a single piece, but she didn’t mind. The silver lining here was that she had more iron than she did before. She crafted up another set of tools and packed up what she’d put down, before turning to her left, to the mountain in the distance of birch trees and green grass. The same mountain she’d been trying to climb since the games started. The samemountain she failed to climb twice.“I swear to god if this mountain is the death of me.”
<3 <3 <3
She pulled herself up with a quiet groan, but smiled tiredly as she realized she reached the top. “That was unreasonably difficult.”She found herself in a small area with a couple trees and plenty of grass. What made it feel oddly cozy was how the ground came up around it, the natural landscape acting as it’s own walls.
What she also found was her old resources she’d lost upon death, in a small pile in the corner. Even though she died below ground, it appeared above. However, she wasn’t complaining. Maybe it was the universe’s way of apologizing for whatever happened earlier. It wasn’t likely by any means, but it was a nice thought regardless, and she wouldn’t be seen taking it for granted.Honestly, the area seemed pretty cozy. The same type of place she’d envisioned when she was first invited to play. So, she placed down a crafting table, a few furnaces, a chest, and a sign that said-
SAM'S PLACE
HI :)
She laughed quietly to herself at the little smiley. She then crafted a couple more torches and headed off to light up the area.As it turns out, she was actually surprisingly close to another team, judging by the sign she’d found about fifteen blocks from her own little dip in the ground.
Fear and Stormy’s
hill
She had been about halfway to sending them a message about how she’d accidentally moved in a bit too close, when she heard footsteps and crunching grass. Stormy herself emerged from the birch with a curious look. They perked up and waved. “Hey, Sam.” They greeted her with a friendly smile.“Hey, Stormy.” She greeted with a slightly nervous smile, rubbing her palm while glancing back at where she’d settled. “I just came to let you know that I might’ve accidentally moved in a little close to you and Fear.” She admitted, looking at them closely for any sign of annoyance. They looked behind her, seeming to notice her place torches, but nodded in understanding with a smile. “Oh, that’s fine!” They assured her.She let out a quiet sigh of relief. “Oh, that’s good.” She gave them a relieved smile. They held out a hand. “Neighbors?”She accepted it. “Neighbors.”She paused before reaching into her backpack, a larger bag with a clip that held the two pieces together, and smiled as she picked up one of the two flowers she’d acquired on her way to the mountain. She held out a Cornflower to them. “Here, as a gift.”They took it and held it gently, looking at it closely before smiling up at her. “Thanks!”She smiled brightly and waved before heading back to her little area.
<3 <3 <3
She was chopping down a tree when there was a quiet buzz from her comm. She pulled it out of her pocket and flipped it open. Meowingpanda1 was slain by TaniaHealer She gasped quietly. “Marzi, no!”

Snow fell from her boots with every step she took, having just collected some spruce saplings from the snowy forest because spruce was a very nice wood that she planned to put to use. From her right, she heard a faint conversation of two familiar voices. Wandering closer, she saw a small birch and stone hut. Fear sat on the wall with xir tail swishing behind them, and Stormy was most likely inside the small hut.
“Hello hill people!” She greeted, peering through the door.Their conversation paused when she entered, Stormy waved from where she sat on a chest.“Hey, Sam.” Fear greeted.“Also, we’re not the hill people, we actually have a name!” Stormy added. She perked up. “Oh? What is it?”“We,“ They stood and gestured for Fear to get down, wrapping an arm around xir shoulder once they did. “Are the Birch Bandits!” They said in unison. She laughed quietly, clapping. “Amazing name, ten out of ten no notes.”Stormy gave a joking bow. “Thank you! Thank you!”“Hold on, we gotta make this legit.” She slipped off her bag again to look through it, taking out two Peonys and holding one out to both of them.Stormy smiled and pocketed the Penoy, in return, they took a feather from their inventory and outstretched it to her. She took it gratefully, examining it and rubbing a gentle finger over its soft surface. She gently attached it to the clip holding that kept her hood connected over my chest, smiling at the sight. “Thanks.”
<3 <3 <3
She had been gathering seeds and placing torches while the sun was still out when she heard something, a very usefulsomething.“Oh my god,” She crept closer. “It’s a cow!”One cow, resting underneath a tree, watched her with dark but curious eyes. She watched it in quiet awe, reaching a slow hand out. “Well hello there.” She whispered, rubbing its head gently. It let out a soft moo, and received one in return. Now obviously she didn’t moo, as nice of an exchange that could’ve been, but that does mean-
“Another one?” She peered over the ledge of the mountain and was proved right, as she saw another cow treading the ledge. She slipped off her bag and searched for any wheat, but unsurprisingly, had none. Instead, she climbed down carefully and approached the cow slowly, careful not to scare it off the ledge.“Hey friend.” She whispered, starting to slowly build a box around it of dirt. “Don’t worry, this is just to keep you safe. I’ll get you a nice home soon.”
She kept a hand on its side, gently ushering it farther away from the ledge while she build up walls. She rubbed its head gently, placing a torch inside and blocking off the top.Hopefully she could get some wheat soon to bring her little friends to their new home.
<3 <3 <3
As she placed down a seed and covered it in soil, there was a buzz from her pocket. She dusted off her hands and pulled it out, opening it and looking at the chat. DNA Aluk fell from a high place“Void! Really?” She spoke in disbelief. <penny bot> skill issue <MoDoubleSS> NOOOO<kittyfankayla> NO VOIDShe laughed quietly. “Skill issue? Really, Stormy?”
<3 <3 <3
Nightfall had arrived, the sun and its warmth and light had laid to rest for the evening, replaced with a cool evening breeze and moonlit skies. What came with beauty came its dangers. She was relatively safe where she was, having lit up during the day, but that didn’t mean she was entirely safe. So, she turned to the left of her chests and to the wall with a bit of exposed stone. She dug into it in hopes of making an actual successful staircase that wouldn’t actively try to suffocate her. It went well for a moment, she got down a lot farther than her previous attempt, but the moment it started trying to block her off, she wasn’t having it.“No.” She scolded, as if the stone was a misbehaving child. “I am not doing that again.”She dug out what blocks it replaced, and it thankfully let her out to the surface again. Lucky for her, there were no signs of any mobs.Strangely enough, there was a Bundlesled, and even stranger, they were sitting cross-legged inside her campfire.“Hey there, whatcha doin’?” She tilted her head with a smile, looking at Sled curiously. They shrugged easily, pulling out a netherite sword and laying it across their legs. “Don’t mind me, just watchin’.”She laughed quietly and nodded. “Alright, have fun.”She looked around for something to do and opened a chest, she saw her rose, reminding her of the Cornflower and Peonys she’d gifted to the Birch Bandits. There also happened to be a flower patch farther back where she could probably get a flower for Sled. With that thought in mind, she headed up to level ground and towards the flower patch, which just so happened to be in the unlit area. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, there was a creeper essentially guarding it. Even if it wasn’t, it was definitely keeping her out.She thought back to her death earlier, dying to the stone, which was a very silly death. At the least, if she died again it was for a good cause. So she raised her shield, making a quiet hissing sound at the creeper. It turned to her, hissing back and approaching. She lured it away from the flowers, raising her shield and bracing herself when it glowed white. She was only knocked back a little bit when it exploded, gunpowder tinting the air.“Really should’ve brought out my mask earlier.” She murmured to herself, a hand over her mouth to avoid choking on gunpowder. She stepped back a bit more, sitting in the grass with her legs crossed, slipping off her bag and setting it into her lap. She searched around inside, smiling triumphantly when she pulled out her mask.It was a black Giater Scarf, reasonably thin but not enough to defeat the purpose. Thick but not enough to be suffocating. She slipped off her hood and slid on the mask, brushing her hair out from inside of it and readjusting it around her neck. She raised her hood once more, satisfied with now having a bit more protection.<TaniaHealer> end of session peoples!!!It was almost upsetting that it was the end, but she knew she’d be back next week. Plans were brewing in her head, but they could wait a couple days.“Can’t wait for next week.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
{Sam POV}
Since the session had began, she’d been collecting plants. She wanted to get cows, and for that she needed wheat. She had seeds, but no wheat. So she’d spent what felt like hours, likely only thirty minutes, gathering plants to compost. As you can probably guess, she got tired of it very quickly. So she took any distraction she could get to avoid the tedious task.Said distraction came in the form of the world around her shifting and freezing at random, she stopped to take a breath, trying to let it pass.
Instead, it grew worse, it grew stronger and caused a small ache in her head that made it feel heavy. She just had to stay upwards, she could do that..
<3 <3 <3
Consciousness returned to her as she sat up in the grass, instantly looking towards the sky to see how much time had passed. Before, the sun was about a third through the sky, but now it rested a little past the halfway mark. Her comm buzzed with backlogged messages, so she pulled it from her pocket and flipped it open. Very clearly, she missed something.
TaniaHealer
was impaled on a stalagmite
“Oh gods...” That was probably a bad time to miss.
<3 <3 <3
“Stormyyyyy?” She entered Stormy’s base and headed down the small staircase they had.Heading into the underground area, she found them mining coal. “Sammmmmm?” They echoed back.“Do you, by any chance, have compostable thingies?” She asked.“Like plants?” They moved their pickaxe to theit inventory with a simple flick of the wrist, replaced with seeds. “Here.”She smiled gratefully, taking them and putting them in her pocket. “Thanks, Stormy!”She waved it off and let her pickaxe reappear. “No problem!” Their voice faded as she exited.
<3 <3 <3
She sat on a furnace, looking at chat while waiting for her wheat to grow because she was well beyond bored of gathering plants.

She spared a glance up at her wheat, grinning when she saw it a healthy light yellow. “Finally!”She collected the wheat and picketed her comm, heading off to collect the cows.
As it turned out, both the cows had escaped somehow, which was a little upsetting. But, not all was lost! Instead, she found a sheep!“Aww, hello sheepy!” She cooed fondly, approaching slowly.
It didn't move when she reached towards it, so she rubbed its wooly head gently. It ‘baa’d quietly, nuzzling into her hand. She smiled, showing it the wheat and easily capturing its interest. She led it to her little area, cooing and reassuring the creature softly. She led it to a small blocked off area next to her campfire, careful to keep it from getting burned, and broke the small wall. She led it inside and plugged one of two blocks.“I’ll feed you soon, but I gotta find you a friend first.” She rubbed its head again before heading off in hopes of finding a couple more animals.Absentmindedly, she checked her comm while looking around. She found a message from Lumina of the Showstoppers, that she found particularly funny.
<Starlumina2011>
I cant get up this tree *sings taco tirade*
And somehow, that brought along the topic of Happy Tree Friends and object shows, which she didn’t know much of, so she got back to the topic of animals.
<3 <3 <3
She’d just finished struggling with herding a cow and a sheep into that closed off area, because while they were very gentle creatures, they weren’t the most compliant, which, fair. Then, there was a buzz in her pocket, so she pulled out her comm and flipped it open.

It was very obvious that she had done next to nothing this session in her opinion, so she started to build the foundations of a tower heavily inspired by Pearl, to say that she at least started. But, since she started so late, it wasn’t surprising what came next.

For the sake of my list of teams, did you join one this session?
CalyOpaleye:
No, I haven’t yet
I decided to rip off the bandage and ask the question, nerves be damned.
S4mAntics:
Do you wanna join me?
“There, I did it.” I murmured to myself, regret already pooling as I tried to avoid thinking it was a stupid question.
CalyOpaleye is typing…
Well if that wasn’t the most nerve wracking message ever.
CalyOpaleye:
Sure
I beamed. Caly accepting made me far happier than she’ll probably ever know.
That’s mostly because, how would I manage to explain that I was actually kinda sad seeing everyone talk about defending their teams and I didn’t have one? I simply won’t, problem solved.
S4mAntics:
Yay!! I’m in the birch area, I’ll come find you next session

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
{Sam POV}
She sat on the visibly short stone walls she’d been in the middle of building last session, the usual nerves buzzing beneath her skin. That was because she had some plans today.Amongst the need to finish her tower, get some armor, and just try not to die, she had one more plan that she was especially excited about. She had a teammate to pick up!Caly Opal eye, who agreed to join her team, was currently somewhere on the server, and she made it her mission to go find them. Though, she’d never been great at directions, she could only hope she wouldn’t get lost on her way over. But, that was a future endeavor, because despite knowing the players for a pretty good while, she managed to forget Caly’s username, and thus, had no clue whether she was online or not. But, she could probably figure it out by just asking in chat.
DNA Aluk
was blown up by a creeper
Orrr she could address that. She felt bad, and so did the others. Void had managed to die the most out of everyone, now sitting on three lives. But, they also happened to be one of the many she hadn’t seen yet. So, she spent the next ten minutes trying to figure out where they lived to give them a flower. They thought she was boogey, which was sad but understandable. She’d spent a while laughing about how similar it was to the previous session.
<3 <3 <3
Caly, who’s name she remembers to be Tia DragonG, had just sent her their cords. So, tired of being lonely aside from her beloved but also lonely neighbor, she wasted no time getting over there. She bounced on her heels before taking a running start towards the cliff edge, and she jumped. The ground was approaching, she was a few blocks shy of the river. When that became ever so apparent, she spread her wings out, beating them sharply and avoiding a very Void-like death, instead gliding away from the ground and folding them back, letting her dive into the river with a bright smile at the risk’s reward.
She took in a breath and dove down deeper into the river, offering as much of a smile as she could manage to the salmon as she swam towards Caly’s cords. The water was cool on her skin, and the sun’s light shining down gave it an effect that felt almost magical.
She swam back up to get some air, taking a second to look at her surroundings. The mountains were tall, stretching high into the bright blue sky. They were mostly stone on the sides, along with a single stream of lava turning to stone when it reached the river.
She carefully avoided colliding with it as she took in another breath and dove down once more.
<3 <3 <3
She climbed out of the river and onto the dry land, shaking out her wet feathers that she’d probably clean later, and looked up at where she saw the name of Caly.
Carefully, she climbed up the mountain, stepping on jagged layers to push herself high and higher until she was face to face with her new teammate. It gave her a moment to get a good look of them.
Caly had golden brown hair down to just below their shoulders, a mossy green shawl over their long-sleeve pale minty colored shirt with a heart on her elbow. They wore a brown corset with golden lacing on the front. They had dark gray baggy pants with pockets above their knees.
They were currently in a small dug out hole, two furnaces stacked on top of each other and a crafting table to the left of them. They were leaned against the wall with one leg bent and its foot pressed against the wall, seemingly lost in thought about something or the other.
“Caly?” She offered a small smile.
They looked up at her, smiling and shifting their weight to be stood straight on both feet. “Hey, Sam!”She stepped in closer, outstretching her hand as she flicked her wrist. Now, she held out a Peony to Caly. Their smile softened as they accepted it, and, surprisingly, returned the gesture. An Allium appeared in their hand. She beamed, happily accepting the Allium and slipping it into her pocket, letting it disappear into her inventory for safe keeping.“Are you ready to go? To my base?” She questioned, looking over her shoulder towards the general direction of her base..They nodded. “Yup, one sec.” They held up a finger, turning away to pack up what they had out. While they did, her eyes caught on something shiny. Looking just above their little nook, she found an iron ore. She grabbed onto a raised layer of dirt and heaved herself up onto it, giving her a better angle to get it.“I think you missed some.” She said as she mined the ore, revealing about four pieces. She pocketed the ore as Caly emerged at the entrance. “I’m ready.”“Great!” She smiled, hopping down to their level.
“Can you swim?” She decided to ask, stepping closer to the ledge.“Yeah?” They responded, a slight confusion in their voice.
“Well come on then!” She grinned, taking a grand leap off the ledge. She couldn’t hear any response over the wind rushing in her ears, shutting her eyes as she dove under the water of the river. Luckily, it would seem that didn’t matter, as Caly dove down as well and appeared by her side.
She swam back up, offering a bright smile. “C’mon, let’s go.”
<3 <3 <3
Now, let it be known that she was never great at directions. Even in her single-player worlds, she never ventured far just out of fear of getting lost.
The two had been traveling towards her base for probably about an hour by this point, and she thought she was doing great! Passing by all the same landmarks she remembered. Until, she hesitated..There was a fork in her path, and no, she did not mean that literally, as funny as that would be.There were two paths. One was to her left, a pretty empty area that wrapped around the hill creating the two paths. The other was to her right, a tall mountain that helped frame this path. She hummed to herself, looking between the two for just a couple moments before she remembered something.
She walked along this large valley-like path, determined to find the Showstoppers to give Void, Jonas, and Lumia flowers. As she looked up, she saw light pink cherry trees, admiring their beauty from the great distance since they were scattered around at the top.
She tried to hide the fact that she had gotten lost from Caly as she started heading down the path to her right. Thankfully, saving her the embarrassment, Caly didn’t mention it.But, of course, because she had the sense of direction of a potato, that wasn’t the end of it. She passed by spawn hill, and she never passed spawn hill on her way there. She was lost, again.“You alright, Sam?” Caly spoke up.She turned to them, massaging her palm to ease her slight nerves. “I mayyy or may not be, just a little lost..”
She admitted sheepishly. They seemed to pause for a moment, looking down before looking back up at her. “Well, do you know where Stormy lives?”She perked up, that was a really good idea, even if she hadn’t meant it that way. “Yeah, I do actually, she’s my neighbor!”“Hold on, I’ll ask her for her cords.” She said as she pulled her comm from her pocket, flipping it open.

There was a quiet laugh behind her, she huffed quietly and turned to face Caly. “I’m sorry I’m bad at directions!” She defended, feathers puffing. They laughed quietly, shaking their head. “It’s fine.”
<3 <3 <3
She smiled, looking across the river to the other mountain that she knew was home. But, mountains are very tall, and she felt like taking an easier route. So, she started to bridge.Caly treaded carefully behind her, footsteps light as they followed slowly.
She stopped for a moment running out of blocks, and slipped off her bag to search for more blocks.“Wouldn’t it be funny if Caly was the Boogey?” She thought with a small smile as she pulled out some cobble, plugging the final gap and giving them access to the mountain. She stood and carefully walked the rest of the distance, slowly creating a pathway that was safe for two people to make sure Caly could follow a bit easier. She pushed past low hanging leaves, and emerged in thr small clearing she called home.“Welcome to my humble hole in the ground.”<3 <3 <3
While Caly got settled in, she knelt down in front of her sign to fix it.
SAM’S HOME
HI
She pulled out a piece of coal and, in her somewhat messy handwriting, made the sign even better.
SAM AND CALY’S HOME
HI
“Hey, Sam.”She looked over her shoulder, seeing Caly stood next to a sign that she couldn’t read from where she was. They tapped the sign with their foot.
“What’s it say?” She asked.Their mouth opened as if to speak, but Stormy’s voice entered audible range. Caly paused, choosing to presumably go greet Stormy instead of explain as they walked off.She shrugged but came up to the sign, kneeling down and reading it over.
idk if I can tell you but I feel like I deserve to so im boogey and im gonnaa kill stormy
There was a yell, a thump, and a buzz of her comm.

Caly stood there, a bloody iron sword in her grip. They looked over their shoulder, and for just a moment, she could’ve swore there was a crimson glint in their olive green eyes. But she didn’t care, Caly was her friend, and she was proud of them. She didn’t care when she ran up to them and gave them a hug. They seemed to hesitate, and for just a moment she wondered if she overstepped, before there were arms around her as well.
<3 <3 <3
She approached the Bandits home, hesitating for a moment before knocking. However, instead of coming through the door, Stormy appeared behind her, which she should’ve expected considering not many had beds.“Sam?”
She turned to Stormy, smiling sheepishly as she held out their items lost upon death. “I, uhm, I have your stuff.”“Oh, thanks.” They accepted the items, letting it disappear as soon as it was all in their arms.“Sooo,” she started, readying to address the elephant in the room. “Any hard feelings?”
They simply shrugged. “Not towards you.”Oh. Fun.
<3 <3 <3
“I’m gonna try and get some iron.” She told Caly as she searched through her chest for coal, sticks, and some spare cobble.“I’ll work on the tower while you do.” Caly offered, glancing towards the probably about seven block tall stump of a tower. She smiled gratefully as she stood and closed the chest. “Thanks!” She turned to the small staircase that cost her a life back in session one.
“Oh!” She turned to look at them. “Can you get some tuff if you go down that deep?”
She nodded. “If I don’t die, then sure.” She joked.Speaking of death. Some armor would be helpful to avoiding that, and she currently had about six raw iron still smelting. She moved from the staircase entrance back to the furnaces and took out the freshly smelted ingots. She carefully shaped and molded the ingots into armor, more specifically, boots. Caly had been watching her as she did, which made it all the easier to gift the boots to them.“Here, as a welcome gift.” She smiled as she offered them. They smiled brightly, accepting them. “Thanks!”
<3 <3 <3
She had been mining for a while by this point, currently at y16, and mining in small branches. She was currently running out of torches and yet to find anything. She’d really hate to go back to the surface and have nothing to show of the fact that she left to begin with. But, as she reached the end of a branch, the final broken block revealed iron. And digging out the blocks around it, there were nine pieces of iron.It was almost as if the world felt bad for her, but that’s not likely. The world was a mischievous little thing, it liked to toss its inhabitants every which way when things settled too much. But still, she wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth as she started to head back up.<3 <3 <3
“A team is just as weak as its weakest member.” She murmured to herself as she made a pie of boots and a sword from her iron. She was a very solo-oriented player, and the few times she did play with others, she gave away basically everything she had to ensure their safety. This was a learning experience, so hopefully she could avoid dragging Caly down by putting herself on the priority list.
<3 <3 <3
She broke a couple blocks of dirt stacked on top of a crafting table, letting her perch on it and watch. Caly was currently by the furnaces she’d placed down, watching the contents melt slowly. There was a strange tingle, a small hint of dread and nerves, and a yelp she was shoved off the tower. The dirt had replaced itself, and decided to shove her off.
She was falling. She was frozen. She was in pain. She laid in the ground, shaky inhales and exhales, on her side as she tried to ignore the bone-crushing pain. It felt as if the world was muffled, but her heart and breath were like fireworks in a forest. There were arms around her, and with them, her senses returned.“Sam!?” Caly’s voice broke through.“H-hi, Caly.” She whispered, their hands hovered above her as she pushed herself upright.“You gonna be alright?” They asked quietly
She nodded. “I’ll be fine.”
<3 <3 <3
She’d been building for a while, while Caly was down in the mines, when she saw Cleo.
They were currently leaving the Bandits house, and she was currently on the third floor of the tower, built up with birch floors and glass. She hurried down the second ladder, ran across the room and carefully avoided the open holes, to get down the first ladder, and promptly rushed out to hopefully catch Cleo before she left.“Cleo!” She called out just before they started heading down the hill.“Sam?” They stopped, turning to her.She smiled, a little out of breath, and outstretched her hand, flicking her wrist subtly. Now, she held out a Peony to them.
They accepted it cheerily. “Thanks!”She smiled, waving them off as they headed home.
<3 <3 <3
She sat on the wall of the tower,
legs swaying as she sketched in a book. She sketched an outfit, similar to Caly’s but meant to have a bit more contrast in comparison. Hopefully Caly would like it next session.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
{Sam POV}
She climbed the ladders to the Birch Bandits’ tower quietly, up towards where she heard quiet shuffling. She peaked her head just barely over to see Stormy stood in the gap meant for a window, looking out at the starry sky.She stepped off the ladder, wandering closer to them with quiet footsteps. It took her being mere inches away for them to react, jumping slightly when they met her eyes.“Sam!” They yelped, stepping back towards the frame. She laughed quietly. “Stormy!” She grinned.Their face turned from startle to curiosity and awe as they looked her over. “I love your clothes!” They smiled. She smiled back, looking down at her outfit.
She wore an orange shawl with a white trim and a posy-shaped embroidery over her heart. Beneath it, a loose beige button up beneath it, dark gray shorts, white socks with a green stripe along them, and dark gray boots. The streak in her hair turned from blue to orange, and it was likely more visible now that she didn’t have her hood up.“Thank you! It’s a surprise for Caly.” One that she’d been planning but grew more unsure of as time went on.They gave a knowing nod. She smiled and waved before heading back down the ladder, gripping it in a way that would let her slide down.Except, on her way down, she saw signs. So sue her, she was curious! She climbed back up and stepped off the ladder, steps making small muffled thumps as she pushed past long and healthy glowberry vines. She perked closer to the signs, taking a moment to read them. She laughed quietly at the sign’s contents.

“Only you, Stormy.” She smiled amusedly.

She had been walking in circles for the past while, and she actually meant that literally this time, wasn’t that a shocker. She’d been waiting for Caly to get on the server for what was realistically not too long but felt like forever, and that was because she wanted to show them her outfit. It was a surprise for them, albeit not a great one, because she wanted to match them a bit better. Then, finally, Caly emerged from the staircase.“Caly!” She greeted with a bright smile.“Hi!” They smiled back as they emerged fully.“Look, I did a thing!” She showed them her outfit she replaced her old one with. They perked up. “Ooh, I love it!”Most of the nerves she had towards it not being a great surprise left, she let herself relax a bit more.“So, do we have any plans for this session?” She questioned, sitting on the crafting table as Caly put something in the furnace. They hummed. “Not really, probably just the usual resource gathering.“
<TaniaHealr>
The Boogey has been chosen
She turned to Caly. “Are you Boogey?” She whispered quietly. They shook their head. “You?”She searched her inventory for the named stick but didn’t find it, so she shook her head.

In the end, she did not go back up, because Caly was heading down and she decided to follow them. She expanded their birch slab platform while they mined tuff, when she decided to speak up.“I have secret info..” She whispered, as if the world itself hearing would reveal the precious secret.“Oh?” Caly perked up, pausing to look at her.“The city is underneath Spawn.”
That seemed to really peak their interest. “Who else knows?” They whispered back. She thought about it for a moment. “I think just Tania, but there may be others.”They nodded quietly, going back to mining tuff while she went back to expanding the platform. She was very glad they didn’t ask how she knew, simply because she wouldn’t have an answer.

The two of them had been walking up the staircase for a while by this point, when she realized something.“Caly, did someone steal your pants?”
<3 <3 <3
She’d been wandering around the base while Caly textured the base of the tower, and decided to check around in the chests and furnaces, not expecting much to come of it.Instead, she found fifteen iron ingots sat inside of the furnace. She grabbed the cooled metal, feeling it’s shiny smooth surface and brushing her thumb over an ingot. She looked down at herself. She was already decently geared, while Caly only had boots. So, she made a pair of leggings for Caly. TThat left eight iron, which would be enough to get one of them a chestplate, or-
Three hours earlier…
She crouched on Tania’s very tall dark oak roof, watching silently as they built the cherry animal pen. She was currently about thirty to fifty blocks above ground level, and she had an idea.
That was never good.
<MoDoubleSS>
do you think I could land the bucket clutch from here?
It was a stupid idea, but she had a water bucket and an urge to do something random.
<TaniaHealr>

She snickered quietly to herself. Guess she was successful in sneaking up to the roof.
<MoDoubleSS>
just say yes or no
She paused for a moment, taking a Quick Look around before she responded.
<TaniaHealr>
yes
“Well now I have to do it.” She whispered to herself.
<MoDoubleSS>
I’ll try
She stood up straight, folding her wings neatly and pulling out her water bucket. She took a breath and a step back, she ran towards the ledge.
She jumped.
She fell.
She landed with a splash.
“Wooo!” She cheered, wings flaring out as she pumped her fist in the air.
Tania gave her a toothy, close-eyed smile from where she was on the outside of the pen. “Woo!”
She cheered as well.-she could make buckets. She headed up the small hill and into the tower, where Caly was currently coming down the ladder. “Calyyyyy, can I make a bucket?”
They smiled and nodded. “Yeah, go for it.”“Yayyy!” She beamed. She turned to the crafting table, when she remembered the leggings. “Oh yeah!” She turned to them. “For you!” She handed them the iron leggings. They took it gratefully, while she turned back to the crafting table. “I did a bucket clutch off Tania’s roof earlier.” She said as she crafted a bucket.“Oh yeah?” Caly said from the floor above.“Mhm.” She hummed, looking up at them. “You
want a bucket?”“If there’s iron left, yes please.” They accepted as they climbed the ladder. She nodded, turning back to make another bucket. When she was done, she put away the remaining two into her inventory for safe-ish keeping. She was about to head up to give it to her when she realized. “What good is an empty bucket?”So, she had the brilliant idea to head down the steep, unlit, very tall mountain down to the river so she could fill them.Who let her have ideas?
<3 <3 <3
It was dead silent around her as she leaned down, careful not to fall into the river as she sunk the bucket below the water, bringing it back up when it was filled. She leaned back so she wasn’t teetering over the edge, spilling a little bit of water so it wouldn’t overflow and putting it in her inventory. She looked back up the mountain towards the light. “Now to go all the way back up again.” She sighed.
<3 <3 <3
She perched on the ledge of the tower, looking down blankly at the ground. She wasn’t paying much attention, just watching.
“I wanna jump off.” She said absently.“But Sam, you could die.”She heard it, but it was distant in the back of her mind and faded as soon as it was heard.
She stood. She jumped. She fell. She landed safely.“I did it!” She cheered, smiling brightly while easing her hands in celebration.“Yeah!” Caly cheered from the tower. “But don't do it again!”
“I won’t!”Yeah, that didn’t happen.
<3 <3 <3
She sat on the edge of what was probably the third level to Stormy’s tower, legs swaying while she leaned back on her hands. The moon and stars glistened, there was a cool midnight breeze, and she had an idea. That was never a good sign.“Stormy, would you give me something if I jumped off the tower?” She spoke, turning to Stormy. It was definitely a big drop as she was, but it seemed doable.Stormy grinned, crouching down beside her. “All the way up.”“All the way up?” She echoed, a bit hesitant. They nodded. “All the way up.”Her mouth pressed into a firm line, as that seemed like a bit much. But, despite that, she climbed the ladder all the way up primarily to see how high up it went. It was a sight that brought a mess of emotions when she did.She could see everything, but she felt revealed, like the world was watching her at that moment. She hesitantly looked over the edge, it only raised her nerves because by gods she was really high up.
“M-Maybe not this high..” She whispered.“Here.” They handed her an iron ingot.
She took it slowly, and turned back to the ledge. She stood there for a while, longer than she was happy to admit, and she wouldn’t have been surprised if they thought she wasn’t going to do it. Especially if she was really considering backing out.
“I’m gonna die..” She whispered shakily, heart beating in her chest as she looked down at the ground that was so far away, she took a step back. She shut her eyes, clenched her hands, and took a breath. “I guess we're doing this.”She jumped. She may be an avian, but she’d never been up very high even though she definitely could. The wind rushed around her, as if whispering in her ears. Her hands shook and her heart was beating, she took in a breath. She took out her water bucket and just as the ground approached, she let it spill out.She lived.“I lived..” She stood there, as if waiting to see that the world was playing tricks on her and that she had died, but she lived.“I-I lived!” She cheered, and wow, wasn’t that a crazy something.“See! I told you you’d be fine!” Stormy called out from the top, voice faint due to the distance. She laughed, keeping composed for all of two seconds before the shaking of her legs and hands became a bit too hard to ignore. She sat down on the ground, knees bent as she laid on her back and spread her wings to avoid crushing them.“Alright, that’s my session. I’m ending this on a high note.” She said with a breathless smile.

Since Caly was out this session, and she wanted to make them proud, she decided this session she would improve the base. Moving things indoors, sorting chests, etc.
You heard panicked yells, thumping footsteps, a pained scream before-
She flinched, a shaking hand to her heart as she drew herself out of her head. “What was that..” She whispered shakily.Just as scary as the memory that slipped away as soon as it came was how quickly it put her into a panic. She brought her hand to her face slowly, watching it tremble. She frowned softly. There was a breeze, just cool enough to avoid being chilling, and just warm enough to avoid being scalding, that blew around her life a ribbon.
She smiled. “Thanks, I needed that.” She whispered, as if the world could hear her.
<3 <3 <3
She’d barely moved two furnaces indoors when the boogeyman was rolled, and when a Bundlesled showed up at her home. She was about to greet them when they shushed her and held out a stick. The panic from before settled back in because oh god, did she get it?She accepted the stick, darn you shaky hands, reading the words engraved in it a few times just to be sure. She buried her face in her hands. “Oh no..”
You are Boogey
She’d spent so many nights laying in bed just thinking about who she would kill if it came down to it, and she never once came up with a solid answer. She also had the backbone of a wet criossant, as Aspen would say, so could she manage to kill someone regardless?Mental Crisis’s were just lovely. She groaned into her hands quietly and sighed, sitting down on a chest she still hadn’t moved inside. “Panicking gets me nowhere, so let me use my few brain cells for a little.”So she planned, aka, she panicked and walked in circles for an hour.
<3 <3 <3
She decided to adventure, because anyone she was semi-okay with killing was obviously not going to waltz into her home. She’d long since the fate that she would most definitely get lost on her way.Wait..“Can I use that?”

She’d been walking for a long while by this point, a hefty distance from home and maybe from anywhere that she wanted to be.Which is why it was an oh so lovely time to second-guess if she actually got Boogey.Especially when she realized she left the stick at home.
You floated down to Sam, who offered you a smile. You put a finger over your own mouth as a sign for her to quiet down, and handed her a stick.
She read it, taking a couple moments as her stance became sort of tense, and she looked up at you with a slightly strained smile and a nod.
She flinched, looking around wildly.
Shaking hands, racing heart, the memory faded as quickly as it came.“Again..?” She whispered. What was wrong with her today?

Still looking for someone to kill, she decided to test her luck. This may be pushing it, but she had to try.

She had came into range of the coordinates she’d been given when she saw a small house. As she got closer, she heard the noises she could only hope was Tania and not someone stealing from her. These noises were coming from underground. She was on a hill, but at the side of the hill, there was a door. It, unsurprisingly, led to a room. The room thankfully, or not, held Tania. She knocked thrice, because anyone who did it anything more or less was strange to her, looking through the small windows in the door.Tania came into view, appearing from somewhere she couldn’t see. They smiled. “Sammy!”
She grinned back.
“Hello hello!”She turned the handle and let herself in, closing it behind her with a small ‘click’.She felt a bit bad for considering leaving already, especially since she stepped in the door about two seconds ago. But, she really didn’t wanna kill Tania, or run out of time to find a new target.
“You
really
thought you could kill me?” They asked.
You stammered, searching for the right words. “I-I dunno..? I just thought, like, I didn’t
want
to kill you! Isn’t that what matters..?”
Her hands only shook slightly, the memory slipped away. She gasped quietly, as if the wind was knocked out of her, clutching her head while her wings wrapped around her to hide her away.It felt as thought she’d been stabbed clean through her skull. She would’ve greatly preferred a mini-panic over whatever that was.
<3 <3 <3
Somehow, she’d managed to keep calm enough to ask for Tania to bring her to the Showstoppers. And, because Tania knows a lot, they were able to easily lead her over. Then, they pulled the disappearing act and just left. Not surprising, but still. So, she waited there. She sat down on the ground, tired from her miniature panics she’d had all day. Both from being the boogeyman and the more concerning ones
Their footsteps crunched against grass, they paused. Was there someone in the grass? “Sam?”
She was drawn back to reality, sitting up straight as footsteps crunched against grass. She saw Void. They stopped, looking at her. “Sam?” She Saw this before. She smiled. “Hey, Void.” She greeted, a bit less enthusiasm than she would’ve liked. She was a bit distracted by a few things. The strange feeling that wasn’t necessarily deja vu, but similar with a strange taint of something. That, and the fact that Void was on three lives. She couldn’t kill Void, she couldn’t do that to them.
“What’re you doing here?” They said curiously. She shrugged. “Just visiting.”She checked her inventory by reaching a hand into her backpack and digging around in it, smiling when she found what she was looking for.
“Here, for you.” She handed them one of the five Peony’s she kept on her for when she came across people. They took it carefully, smiling and stashing it away. Next thing she knew, she was being showered in cherry petals, courtesy of Void. She smiled, laughing quietly as she shook her head, letting the ones on her fall with the motion.

You saw her.She was standing in front of you, at a furnace with armfuls of copper ingots.
She was smiling, it was warm like the morning they were in, yet refreshing like the cool breeze that blew through. Her gold eyes seemed to shine like the sun rising behind them, and she looked at you.She smiled, she was what you were looking for.You smiled back. You were both okay.
<3 <3 <3
“Sammmm..” Caly’s voice entered the silence. She turned from the furnace she was about to pick up to Caly. They stood at the edge of the hill, face buried in their hands, and a stick in their hand.“Caly? What’s up?” She asked, abandoning her task in favor of checking on them as she walked over. They met her halfway, wordlessly handing her the stick they were holding. She took it, read it, read it again, looked at them, read it one more time, and she was shocked.“How are you Boogey again?”
<3 <3 <3
White. It was all white. She wasn’t alone. She could See someone with her. She didn’t know who, but they didn’t feel safe. Then, as if warm hands were taking her gently, she went away. There was a feeling of urgenc-
Caly screamed.Void attacked. Her pair died. Tia DragonG was slain by DNA Aluk Void looked at her, but she was too focused on where her teammate once was.She stared at the empty place for what could’ve been minutes or seconds, because they died and she failed. A few tears sunk down her cheeks, she sniffled quietly.
“Why wasn’t I good enough..?”
<3 <3 <3
She walked into the tower where Caly was pacing around, and stood in the doorway. She knocked on the stone wall.
They looked up at her, she smiled a little nervously. “You gonna kill Void? She grinned. “Hell yeah!”
<3 <3 <3
You were in what looked like the sky at sunset, the area having seemingly no end or beginning, but feeling safe.
“Child.” It was an indescribable voice, yet it felt safe, like a warm blanket.
“Hello?” You looked around, but you saw no one.
“Who are you?”
It felt as if they smiled. “I am everything, child. Everything there was, is, and will be.”
You hummed, pausing for a moment. “You feel … familiar..” you said quietly.
Their smile felt warm. “That would be right, child. But, that is not why you’re here.”
You nodded. “So, why am I here?”
“So you can know you don’t need Them to protect your loved ones, or achieve great things.” They spoke softly, kind and assuring in a way that made her feel all warm inside.
“Don't go back to Them. You already have many abilities just as you are.”
She was sat at the base of a spruce tree, feeling warm and safe despite the snow not so far away. She didn’t remember what she was thinking about, but that didn’t bother her somehow.Axe met wood in a steady beat. Caly was chopping down some birch trees.Footsteps crunched against grass, and Aspen emerged from the forest.Something felt off almost instantly. She killed them in the previous session, and now they show up alone at her base? She watched them carefully as they entered the small area behind Stormy’s tower. They were mumbling something, but stopped when they saw her.She didn’t miss the way their hand hovered over their sword in its hilt. They waved, and she waved back, watching them carefully. They turned to look at Caly, who was also watching them, not as suspicious seemingly.
Then they walked off, like that wasn’t oh so incredibly suspicious.Once she knew for a fact they were long gone, she turned to Caly.
“Aspen is definitely a Boogey.”
They smiled. “See, Child? You don’t need Them to protect your pair.”
<3 <3 <3
She hadn’t seen Caly for a while, so she felt it was reasonable to be worried. She didn’t have to look far to find them, however, as they were sitting at the edge of the birch forest where it met the spruce. They sat with their knees bent and head in their hands. She frowned softly, and quietly sat down next to them. “Hey,” she put a hand on their shoulder. “What’s wrong?”They looked at her, and they looked hopeless. “I don’t think I can do this, Sam.” They said quietly. She moved her hand from their shoulder to take one of their own, and she held it. “You got this, Caly. I’ll be with you the whole time.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.” They growled.
<3 <3 <3
She’d been doing something, which was oh so specific, but if you asked her she genuinely couldn’t tell you. That’s because all her attention was taken to the certain someone who arrived in her base.May Flower was in her base.Considering what happened last session, that was definitely not a good sign.“Hey there, May.” She said slowly, eyeing them in almost equal parts confusion and curiosity, because more than anything she was nervous. What really didn’t help her nerves was that they looked nervous! “Oh, uhm, hi Sam.”
Then they looked at each other, having some sort of staring match that was more of a ‘do I look away or is it too early’ type of staring match.Their hand slid to the handle of their sword, and suddenly the hill looked mighty welcoming. She backed away from them as calmly as she could and climbed up the hill, putting some distance and giving her a vantage point. They gave her a strange look. “What’re you doing?”She shrugged. “Nothin’.”Then they started walking towards her, and their hand was still on their sword.“I swear..” She whispered beneath her breath. She turned to a pretty short birch tree and climbed up onto its canopy. She moved careful but quick as she jumped to a taller one.May looked a little panicked as she grew the distance between them, hurrying to follow her.She picked up her pace, jumping to another tree before finding herself at the tallest one. It might be a bad idea to be so high up, just because they could easily shove her off, but she was here. She lowered herself more into the leaves, shield tucked in front of her while she looked for where they were. May was currently making the same jumps she did and closing the distance a bit too quick for her liking. So, like the professional coward she was, she ran. She lept to a smaller tree and off that one. May was barely at the top of the tallest tree when she headed into the tower. She backed up towards the ladder, when she heard their footsteps, she started climbing. She managed to reach the next floor by the time they entered. They looked around the room before noticing her, and they looked at each other for a few moments before she walked over to the second ladder, turning back to them. They frowned before walking over to the ladder on their floor. She wasted no time in climbing up the final ladder, but when she reached it, she had an issue. That was as high as she could go unless she wanted to jump off the roof and attempt a water bucket clutch. So, she turned around, raised her shield, and faced May.They looked at her with an expression she couldn’t place. “Why’re you running from me?” They questioned the somewhat obvious.“I don’t trust you.” She said after a moment, and the way she saw it, it was incredibly fair on her part. They looked sad, hurt almost. “Why not?”“You’ve been following me this whole time, and you keep reaching for your sword.” She gestured to their iron sword they’d had their hand over just minutes before.Judging by the look on their face, it seemed she hit the nail on the head. But then their expression shifted to a small frown. “I was just trying to talk to you.”She knew she shouldn’t believe them. She knew so well that they could be one of the three boogeys. She knew they had a reason to target her.So why on earth did she believe them.?She felt guilty almost immediately. “Oh, oh I didn’t know that.” She said sheepishly. “Sorry.”They looked at her with some shock, some guilt, and even more nerves. Next thing she knew there was an axe in her arm, and it hurt beyond words. She gasped, breathless, shaking but managing to raise her shield and block the next hit. She swung back with her own sword, hoping to push them away. She didn’t want them to die, but she didn’t want to leave Caly either, so she fought with everything she had.But everything she had was never gonna be enough.MoDoubleSS was slain by Mayflower4597She respawned on the ground, just as the bed was destroyed. She looked at them with fear and pushed herself away. They glanced at her before running off.She curled in on herself, the aches of her wounds fading away slowly, and before she could get remotely close to collecting herself, her pair was gone.Tia DragonG was slain by AspenTrees123She wanted to be there with them, to hold them and protect them and make sure they were okay, but she was alone. She wasn’t there. She failed them.
Everything she had was never going to be enough.
<3 <3 <3
She was still a little shaky from her death, but after she’d calmed down enough to put her thoughts together, she noticed that while she did have a good amount of her items she was missing a lot of them. So, despite the nerves she had, she knew she needed to go see May.Turns out, they hadn’t gone far, standing at the edge of the mountain beneath a tree. They were shuffling, diverting theit gaze anywhere but towards her as she stood in front of them. She wasn’t sure if it made her feel better or worse at the sight of their own nerves to match hers.
So, she started simple.“Do you have my items?” She asked quietly.“Yeah, here.” They handed her item after item she knew she had, and she got a glance at their eyes with a flicker of guilt. But she stopped, because they handed her an item that definitely wasn’t hers. She looked at them, confused as they held out an iron axe to her. “That’s not mine.” She looked up at them. They met her eyes this time, smiling sheepishly. “That’s cause it’s mine.”She made an ‘oh’ face, but was still pretty confused. They seemed to notice that.“Its a gift, more like an apology, but y’know, I think it works well enough.”
They held it out closer, so she slowly and carefully accepted it.
You handed Aspen your sword, guilt still nipping at your mind. “Here, as an apology.”
It was such a brief memory, but she couldn’t help the familiarity in the two situations. They looked guilty, and while she was incredibly thankful for the apology gift, she didn’t want them to feel bad. So she said exactly what was on her mind.“I am a little sad you killed me, I’ll admit that much.” She said quietly, taking them by the hand before they could get any ideas and brought their attention to her. “But I’m really proud of you, May.”They looked at her for a while, searching her stance and her eyes and her words for any sense of a lie, and they smiled, because they found none.“Thank you.” They gave her hand a small squeeze. Then, the two talked.“You were freaking me out.” She said with a laugh, because she could not stress enough of how suspicious they were. “Following me first of all, and pulling out a sword? Really? They buried their head in their hands, though she could see the smile in their eyes when they spoke. “My heart was beating so hard.” She admitted. She nodded in agreement. “I feel that.”And talked.“I think you and me are okay. Your mom probably wants my head, and Aspen killed Caly. So I don’t mind you, but that only goes for you.” She says to the one who murdered her in the face. They hummed. “That’s fair.”And then they said their goodbyes.
<3 <3 <3
Caly was gone.Caly died.Caly was yellow. She didn’t want them to be yellow, because then they’d have to leave her quicker and she’d be alone and she couldn’t do anything about it.Except, she realized that she could in fact do something about it.Caly was on two lives, and that made them yellow. Yellows can gain a life from killing a dark green, which is why May killed her.She was on four lives, somehow having managed to stay on five up until this point, and she was a dark green. She could do something about it.
<3 <3 <3
penny bot fell from a high placeShe cursed beneath her breath and promptly ran to tower because oh god they just died. She was reaching for the door when she saw something, next thing she knew she was on the ground with a dull ache because she ran into that something. As it turned out, that something was actually a someone.“Caly?” She said confusedly as they scrambled to their feet, pausing when they saw it was her.
“I did it!” They smiled breathlessly.Maybe she should’ve felt bad, because Stormy just died, and if it was anyone else at fault she definitely would’ve, but this was Caly, this was her pair. She’d always be right behind them.
<3 <3 <3
She’d been sat at the little nook in the top of their tower for.. some amount of time. Her wings were wrapped around her to shield her from the world. Her mental battery was probably on fire because she was tired, and she didn’t feel like having a mini-crisis over what happened to Caly. She was fully content to stay there on her own for the remainder of the session, as Caly had gone to sleep, but apparently that wasn’t what life had planned for her.She heard footsteps, and didn’t need to unfold herself to learn who had arrived.“Sammy?” Tania’s voice was a bit muffled, but undeniably her.“Hey, Tania.” She said quietly, frowning at the tinge of exhaustion in her voice.“Are you alright in there?” They sounded closer this time, and she could hear the concern. She unfolded her wings to look at them, they stepped back at the suddenness. “‘m alright, just tired. Mental battery ‘n all that.” She said with a shrug. They looked her over carefully before nodding. “If you’re sure.”She nodded sleepily, vision blurring just a little bit. She felt a gentle hand on her head before she was welcomed into sleep.
<3 <3 <3
She felt floaty and warm, wrapped in something soft. She was in the comfortable haze of sleep, slowly easing into consciousness. She sat up slowly with a yawn, stretching her arms and wings, listening to them pop quietly. The warm orangey morning light was seeping in through the small opening in the wall, the sky a similar color. She rubbed a bit of sleep from her eyes as she headed down the ladder slowly, taking quiet steps as she woke herself up a bit more. She climbed down the other ladder and got to the bottom floor. She stepped closer to the doorway and looked outside.Healthy green grass and beautiful flowers, the warm sun and orange sky, her pair sat amidst it all.She stepped out, the grass crunching quietly beneath her feet. They didn’t look at her, entranced in the sun rising slowly. She sat beside them regardless, crossing her legs and looking up at the sky.It was quiet, it was peaceful, but words from her didn’t mean that peace was shattered.“I got my kill, but I feel terrible..” Caly whispered quietly, almost as if scared that breaking the silence would hurt. She didn’t turn to them, but put a hand on theirs from where it was in their lap. She saw them turn to her, but stayed looking at the warm sky.“I’m proud of you anyways.” She said just as quietly, her smile turned joking. “And that you didn’t murder me in the face.”She turned to them when they gasped quietly, a hint of joke in their offense. “We’re a pair, of course I didn’t kill you.” There was a little bit of offense in their gold eyes, more lighthearted than anything. Her smile turned more genuine, she gave a small nod. “Thank you for that.”She turned back to the sky, and if you looked close enough, you could probably notice it slowly rising higher and higher, slowly losing it warm hues to be replaced with the refreshing cool blues. She watched the sky, it was easy. What would make it easier was to share something on her mind, so maybe they wouldn’t feel so out of place for sharing what was on theirs. Her smile faltered, and she sighed, shoulders sagging. “Every time I leave something bad happens.” She said with a small frown. “I left for thirty seconds and you were killed.”Their hand moved from where it was beneath hers, and she felt it on her shoulder. When she looked at them, there was a spark of determination in their eyes.“No more dying.” They said with finality, and however naive it was, she let herself believe them.Their smile washed her worries away, and made hers even brighter as she put a hand on top of theirs. “We’re gonna stick together. I’m not leaving you to die again.”
She turned their hand over and intertwined their fingers, speaking with just as much finality as they did. “If anyone comes after you, they’re going through me first.”Their smile turned fond, and they nodded.Things didn’t get better, and maybe they never will. But that’s alright, because the two of them were gonna stick together.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
{Sam POV}
She was basically walking in circles all morning, because after last session she felt being a little protective of her twice-boogied friend was definitely reasonable. So she took the whole “stick together” part to heart and followed them around.Currently, She was sitting on the bed, sketching in her little book in her lap, while they searched in their chest for what was likely copper.“Ready for your kill?” She said as she looked up from her book. They looked up just as she did, and gave a small smile. “Yeah.”As they headed down the ladder, she decided to check what they had in their chests. She stood and walked the pretty short distance, and opened the bottom one, unsurprisingly filled with a big mess of items. The few contents of the top chest made her smile. A stick, a copper ingot, and..“Oh, I remember you.” She said softly as she picked up the delicate flower. She held Caly’s allium, the one they’d gifted her when they first met all those weeks ago.“God, it feels like an eternity ago, doesn’t it?” She said as she held it up, illuminated by the sun.She closed her hands around it carefully, placing it into her inventory for safe keeping.
<3 <3 <3
White. It was all white. It felt suffocating, like a snake creeping up her being and slowly tightening. their. grip. until. she. fel-
She was warm, she was safe, she was protected. She wasn’t with Them.
“Go home, child. I’ll make sure you stay there.”
She was in her bed, the haze retreating and letting her tune into her surroundings.Stormy was there, pushing a hanging sign back and forth, while Caly was sitting next to her on a chest. They smiled at her before standing and heading towards the ladder. Then, something happened. It felt like she was outside of time for just a few moments, out of her body because she Watched Caly walk to the ladder, and Stormy throw back theit axe in preparation to hit the sign. The sleek metal met a new target instead.Caly gasped in pain, grasping her arm where contact was made and backing away from Stormy in messy steps.
The haze was stripped away by something, and she wasted no time rushing forward. She stood in front of Caly, being the wall between her and Stormy as she raised her shield. Her pair was hurt, she wasn’t leaving them to die.Stormy wasn’t a threat, she should’ve know that. She did know that. Maybe last session put her on edge, but she didn’t move from her position despite the thought. Then, she sighed. She gave them an apologetic look before turning to Caly and gently ushering them to the bed. She sat them down and gave them a cooked mutton. They had everything else they needed aside from it.She sat down on the chest, having traded spots with Caly earlier now that she thought about it, and watched them bandage their arm, going through the practiced movements quietly. She sat there, she watched them heal, and she may not be the strongest, but at the least she could be there.
<3 <3 <3
“I think we should start Operation Roots today.” She said as Caly climbed down the ladder.“Probably for the best.” They agreed as they touched down on the floor.
“I had a silly idea yesterday.” She said, laying on her back, looking up at the sky.
“Ooh, silly idea.” Caly said, curious.
“I don’t think either of us are great at PvP, so if we tried we’re not playing to our strengths.” She admitted, and it was a miracle they’d both managed to be successful boogies.
“So, what if we made a hole with a bunch of different tunnels? And they led to random places as a way of escape.”
She proposed.
It was definitely a strange idea, a bit of a big project, and especially with how limited time was.
“Oh my god, yes.” They grinned regardless, and it brought a smile to her face. “It’ll be a secret tunnel!” They said with a laugh.
She laughed along, smiling fondly.
So she headed off to the mine.
<3 <3 <3
She stood outside the tower, staring at the bucket that might not be hers since May managed to “return” hers without the water.Regardless, now she had to go all the way down the hill just to fill it back up again. Fun.
<3 <3 <3
She sat on the orangey jungle planks Caly had freshly placed above the doorway to the mine, swinging her legs back and forth a little as they finished up.They turned to her, standing just a bit straighter. “Sam.”She tilted her head. “Hm?”“Its time.” They gestured to their sword.Right, it’s time. She hopped down from the entryway to the ground, stepping closer. She offered them a smile before kneeling down in front of them and closing her eyes.“I’ll die with my honor.” She whispered.

She closed her comm and pocketed it as she ran outside, tackling her pair into a hug. They let out a quiet yelp, byt returned the embrace.
She wasn’t losing them, not yet.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
She was floating. She was safe and warm. She knew, she was with a being from the past, one who saved her from something lost.
“You, child, are a hybrid.”
“You’re connected to nature. To the world. To me.”
“I can help you turn Their claim into power.”
SShe didn’t wanna go back to Them. “How do I do that?”
The being smiled. “Just finish my sayings.”
She was confused. “How do I know what to say?”
She felt warmer. “Just listen to your heart.” They assured her.
They gave her a moment, a moment to either back out and go back, or to accept and take the chance. She wanted to take the chance, so she wouldn’t have to go back to Them.
They hummed. “Void, stars, endless sky.”
She, hesitated a moment, then, she spoke the first thing that came to mind. “Sky, clouds, morning light.”
Their smile warmed. “Ocean, waves, deep blue seas.”
A bit more confident, she continued. “Forest, fruit, age old trees.”
“You are not separate from every other thing.”
As they spoke, she felt a strange sort of buildup of energy. A change. She needed to let it flourish.
“Become one with life, be one with what it brings.” She finished.
Silence.
Waiting.
Then..
They smiled. “You did well, now go protect your pair.”
She sat in her bed, becoming more aware of herself as her senses sharpened. She knew. She knew they were out there. She knew she had them keeping her safe.
She knew she wasn’t separate from life.
<3 <3 <3
She walked to the staircase entrance. She saw Caly, doing some finishing touches quietly. A special something sat light in her pocket, and she wanted to see if it meant just as much to them as it did her.
“Hey, Caly.” She spoke up, hiding the item behind her back.
They turned to her, smiling kindly. “Hey, Sam.”
“I got a question for you.” She straightened up a bit more.
They hummed, nodding for her to continue.
So, she pulled out the gift he’d been given by Caly herself all those weeks ago, momentarily realizing just how long ago it was, yet she remember it like it was yesterday.
“Caly?” She offered a small smile.
They looked up at her, smiling and shifting their weight to be stood straight on both feet. “Hey, Sam!”
She stepped in closer, outstretching her hand as she flicked her wrist. Now, she held out a Peony to Caly. Their smile softened as they accepted it, and, surprisingly, returned the gesture. An Allium appeared in their hand.
She beamed, happily accepting the Allium and slipping it into her pocket, letting it disappear into her inventory for safe keeping.
The vision was tainted with a very faint violet hue, but a warm golden one overpowered it, keeping the violet at bay.
“Remember this?” She held the still pristine allium out to them.
Recognition immediately flashed in their eyes. “Yes!” They took it from her gently, holding it close and looking over the item.
They held it with so much care and fondness that only strengthened her goal of keeping them safe. It truly meant something to them both.
<3 <3 <3
She emerged from the staircase, about thirty lapis sat in her inventory as Tania was allowing them to enchant with the price of ‘bring your own lapis’.
But, that was all forgotten for a little bit because she saw Caly, Tania, and Keiko. She knew what was happening!
She hurried up the hill and to Caly’s side. They held a life, a small heart identical to the ones representing health on their comms, about the size of their hand.
“You gotta, like, like if you were eating it.” Keiko tried explaining to Caly.
They looked at it strangely, looking between us all. She gave them a reassuring look and mimicked putting it to their mouth. They slowly copied it, and a ribbon of light circled them, flashed from yellow to lime, and disappeared.
It revealed Caly, once with a few gold flowers and a matching hair streak, now having those same features a lush lime green.
They smiled, and she smiled just as bright. Maybe for different reasons, but she smiled because now they wouldn’t have to leave her as quickly, because she was able to keep them around just a little longer.
<3 <3 <3
Tania stood across from her, their Enchanter displayed for her use.
Sometimes she was really glad Tania was her ally. She’d probably be dead otherwise because they could be somethingsometimes.
They watched her as she took out tools, unenchanted and somehow not too worn out.
She spared them a glance, eyeing their lime name. Tania may be her ally, but they were playing to win. She wouldn’t be enough to hinder that.
A lime on lime kill would be illegal, and Boogey hadn’t been rolled yet, so she felt that eas enough reassurance to take off her armor.
She read off familiar words from the pages. She was short on levels, so she prioritized armor.
!¡∷𝙹ℸ ̣ ᒷᓵℸ ̣ ╎𝙹リ |
It was a pretty low enchant, but probably the best she’d be getting, so she accepted. She took her lapis, compressing it into her hands. It turned paste like, glowing like xp as she brushed it over the enchant.
Then, she placed the same hand on her leggings. A ripple of light spanned across the metallic surface, turning blue with a small purple hue.
Sha repeated the magic process on her boots, equipping them with a low level Projectile Protection enchant.
It wasn’t much, but it would have to do.
<3 <3 <3
She rounded the corner, peering behind the tower to see Caly. They were building up small pillars around what would become the walls around their tower.
“Caly!” She stepped out into the more open area with a wave.
They looked from the pillar to her and smiled. “Hey!”
“I have a thingy.” She said as she walked closer.
They met her halfway, curious. “Oooh, thingy?”
She held out to them her pair of enchanted leggings. “Here, and I can take yours.”
They looked at the shining metal and nodded. They slid off their armor, straightening up and making the exchange.
She smiled at their added protection, even if it wasn’t much.

Clay went mining not too long ago, and for the sake of secrecy, she didn’t ask if they’d meant actual mining or root mining.
But with them gone, she decided to finish up the walls, and trying to build
up the birch pillars like Caly would’ve done. She’d been doing so for a while, and just as she’d finished the back ones, she realized she wasn’t alone.
“Keiko!”
They smiled with a wave as they floated down to the ground. She hopped off the pillar to be level with them.
Now, let it be known that she had been thinking about Boogey a lot this session. She knew there would be no back to back boogies, so there was already a good amount of people out of the running.
That’s why she wasn’t as panicked when she got the stick.
YOU ARE BOOGIE
“Lovely.” She murmured as she pocketed it, giving Keiko a thankful nod regardless.
<3 <3 <3
Last time she got Boogey she had to deal with it alone as Caly was out for personal stuff and couldn’t make it. But, now her pair was here, and they were always honest about the times they were chosen.
That count came up way higher than she’d like, but that was besides the point.
So instead of panicking like the headless chicken she was the first time she got Boogey, she promptly headed down to talk to Caly instead.
On her way down she got a sinking feeling, and moments later, her comm buzzed.

“Calyyyy!” She called out with her hands cupped around her mouth, walking down the branch mine and peering down the tunnels as she passed them by.
She slowed her pace when Caly peeked their head out from the one to her left at the end, waving and stepping out fully.
They walked into the isle, meeting her halfway.
“Hiya!” She greeted with a lopsided smile.
“Hey, Sammy.” They smiled.
Her smile faltered when her hand slipped into her pocket, reminding her of why she was there more specifically. She pulled out her Boogey stick, and they mirrored the motion.
“I’m good.” They held their stick in a way that would let her read the engraved words.
You are NOT boogie
“Wish I could say the same.” She said with a slightly defeated smile as she handed them hers.
They took it quietly, holding it and reading iver the words. They read it, they stared at it, and they were silent for a few moments.
She watched them quietly, shifting on her feet and waiting.
Then, they looked back at her, and there was a look of silent determination in their eyes. Without much of an explanation, they squeezed past her in the narrow aisle, walking with purpose like a woman on a mission. They showed no sign of stopping, so she rushed to follow them.
Their footsteps echoed as they walked, boots clicking against stone, before they stopped. They stood at the mini-station with two furnaces stacked and a crafting table to the side.
She stopped behind them, peering over their shoulder watching them craft quietly. They placed down a freshly made chest and promptly opened it with a small creak.
From the angle she was at, she had no clue what was going inside the chest, so she crouched down instead. This gave her a clear view of the rapidly filling chest.
She straightened up when she realized it was filling with Caly’s items.
They better not be doing what she thinks they were doing.
“Uh, Caly?” She spoke up quietly.
Tools went into the chest.
“What doing?” She asked with a bit of hesitation.
Their armor went into the chest.
Then, it closed. She looked to them, where they turned to her with a look that was decided but soft.
Then, they spoke. She almost didn’t want to believe it, because there could be better ways, but once the words were in the air, they were engraved in her mind.
“You’re gonna kill me.”
She looked at them, her heart picking up it’s pace. She frowned, fist coming to rest over her heart. She shook her head.
She flinched at two buzz’s of their respective comms, someone died.

She didn’t want to see Caly become one of those names.
She looked them in the eyes, reaching for their hand and taking it in hers. “There can be another way.”
She could kill someone, she could go out and she could find a way.
They gave her hand a squeeze, but shook their head. “You’re gonna kill me.” They repeated, smiling softly like that would change the meaning.
It did.
It wasn’t a death, it was a gift.
It wasn’t a casualty, it was a sacrifice.
It wasn’t a loss, it was a promise.
It was the promise they’d made since the very beginning, that they’d always be there.
She embraced them, shutting her eyes and burying her head into their chest. “Thank you.”
They went limp as she stabbed her sword through their stomach.

“Here ya go.” Tania handed her something heavy.
Not heavy enough to let her fall with the weight, the comfy kind of weight that says “hey, I exist here, ok?”
Then she felt it’s cool surface and realized it was armor. She’d honestly forgotten about Tania offering to give them her spare pieces up until then.
She now had two chest plates and a helmet she’d be giving to Caly later.
Just a little more protection.

Bright red words, they flashed in front of her. For a split second, she was in a panic because she knew what it meant. Red words fading to gray.
A final death.

She sat on a furnace in the small room that would become the Roots. It was pretty small, maybe a four by four room with two furnaces, a crafting table, and a chest on one wall.
The chest was new, having been freshly placed by Caly, where they were putting a couple important things inside.
If they were putting important things, she had her own to add.
She reached in, and she put a peony inside, letting it rest delicately inside.
Caly placed down her allium by its side.
She looked at them, and they offered her a smile.
Maybe it did mean something to them.
<3 <3 <3
She perched on the furnace, legs bent as she watched Caly dig. She didn’t wanna seem lazy, but she truly had no idea what shape they were going for, so she was watching to give her an idea.
It really didn’t help much, cause it still didn’t seem like much of a shape.
There was a small buzz. This wasn’t like the blunt buzz that came from a comm. This was softer, and verbal but not. It was meant for her, to tell her something without words.
She saw a figure.
She saw Keiko.
She saw the peony they were holding.
They looked between her and the peony, she brightened. “You still have it.” She said softly.
They smiled. “Best gift.”
They’d never know just how much that meant to her.

OH NO STORMY
<MoDoubleSS>
STORMYY
She was on her feet and running in seconds. She remembered. She’d seen their name. She knew where they died. She could help.
She climbed up the messy made steps that were just blocks of cobble on the inner part of the wall, essentially throwing herself over the final one and sprinting to the snowy forest.
Stormy was next to her, and they were red.
She ran.
She slowed her pace to follow them, to make sure she knew where she was going, and followed them all the way to a crater littered with items.
They were red, they could pick up a sword and bring her down right there.
But they were yellow minutes ago, they could be just as worried because it could be the end Igor them at any moment.
They were her friend, her first since she managed her way up the damned mountain, so she’d stay there and help them until one of them was gone.
She handed them armfuls of items, switching between making them a pile and searching the snow to make sure none were lost. She was too focused to feel the fear she should’ve felt.
“Thank you.”
She turned to them, where they were slowly picking up what survived. And she smiled. “No problem.”
Then she got a nice reminder of what her original plan was.
<Tia DragonG>

“Oh shoot, I forgot about Caly.” She rushed to her feet, earning a small laugh from Stormy.
She waved and ran towards the edge behind their walls, she pulled out her comm and flipped it open to act like she didn’t forget about them for a little.

She was at their cords, or, as close as she could be since they were like fifteen blocks below ground. She she went down to the side of the mountain, careful on the steep ledges, as she made her way to be about level with them, and started digging.
Then they started moving! She kept digging deeper and they kept moving away every time she got close.
“Stop moving! I’m tryna dig to you, ya silly goose!” She called out, hoping they could hear from wherever they were.
Then, she heard a voice that was evidently not underground, and from somewhere behind her. “I’m out!”
She turned and headed back to the mouth of her tunnel, where she saw Caly, in all her glory. She met their eyes and promptly started scaling the ledges as safely as she could, while they started climbing and building up.
They met her halfway, and she brightened.
“Sam!” They cheered.
“Caly!” She grinned, giving them a small squeeze.
Keiko gave a fake sniffle, wiping their eye like there was any tears to be found. “Such a beautiful reunion.”
She sighed fondly. “Hi Keiko.”
Then they started floating upside down, cause that was just Keiko being Keiko. “I came to watch the rescue.”
<3 <3 <3
She saw Tania, and maybe at another point she would’ve been glad. But there was a sharp, feral look in their eyes.
They grinned with their fangs and stood with the confidence of a predator from where they were atop the walls.
They pulled out a crossbow, and shot it off towards her and Caly. She didn’t know which of them it was aimed for, but she made sure it hit her shield before either of them.
They shot another.
And another.
And another.
But they took their time, and never advanced.
The next arrow she couldn’t block in time, she hissed quietly as it lodged itself just below her shoulder.
Despite the ache, she quickly pulled out her bow, pulled back an arrow, and released it. Somehow, she made the shot, and it hit them in their lower arm.
They didn’t even seem phased, and ripped the arrow out like nothing.
"And we're gonna have a bow fight?” They taunted.
The tone was playful. Not in the kind between friends, but between a predator playing with their food. Because that’s exactly what this was. They were toying with her.
But that wouldn’t be the end of it. Not everyone was leaving this interaction alive, there was no way.
She took a steadying breath, eyes locked as she raised her shield and looked them in the eyes. “Tania, leave.”
They grinned lazily, knees bent to bring them just a bit closer. “No, I don't think I will.”
They hopped down to be level with her, stepping closer. “Remember who's on the top list here?”
They stalked closer, grin turning sharp. “Remember who has the most kills?”
They got in her face, mere inches away. Still, she remained firm in front of Caly.
She knew Tania wasn’t herself right now, but her words still hurt more than any blade.
“Remember who’s better than you?”
She hit them with the sword, but it only succeeded in gaining a blocks distance.
They gasped mockingly. “You're gonna hit me? You’re gonna do it?”
They closed the distance with one grand step, close enough to make her stumble back. The smile was gone, replaced with a growl as they shoved her back.
“You’re finally gonna grow a backbone and hit me with your pathetic iron sword?”
They stood across from her, and the devilish smile returned. “That would be funny.”
Her hands shook, but she clenched them and steeled herself as best she could. “I don’t wanna fight you, but whatever it is that’s going on with you, you take that out against me.”
“No-“ She spared Caly a glance, quieting them.
“How cute.” They drawled.
They were in her face with a fierce growl.
She yelped, wings coming to shield her as she brought her hands to protect her.
Her heart was beating in her chest and she trembled fiercely.
They smirked. “Never forget what you are.”
They leaned in, whisper like a cold winter breeze.
“Weak.”
<3 <3 <3
She wasn’t sure how it happened, but it was probably her taking falls just tall enough to hurt when she was building the walls, that left her at two and a half hearts.
If she were anywhere else, on any other world, maybe that wouldn’t have been as concerning. But she was on a server where lives meant everything, and you can never afford to lose one.
So, that was really bad. Even worse, there was no food to be found anywhere in their base. So, she headed down to the mines. She could only really hope that was where Caly was.
But, she’d only gotten about halfway down when she heard something. It was pretty faint from the distance, but she saw a shadow at the mouth of the staircase.
And at first, she thought it was Caly. So, she started heading up.
She saw lava.
That wasn’t Caly.
A Diamond chestplate and sword.
That was Tania.
Still, like an idiot with the knowledge that Tania was fully willing to hurt her, she kept going up. Granted, she was careful, shield raised and approaching slowly, but careful is hard to come by when a gentle breeze can kill her.
Still, she stepped closer to the flowing lava that was steadily making its way down. Instead of panicking, she blocked it off, making a small wall to keep it away. Then, she tried to block the source. When it started receding, she assumed she got it.
So, she cleared up the walls, and looked back to the surface.
Stormy walked past Tania, and Tania didn’t hurt them. They came together.
She watched them just waltz on in like they owned the place, and they looked down at her.
“You okay?” They asked quietly.
She shrugged, subtly backing away. “Good enough.”
Then, they walked off. Tania took their place.
They pulled out their damned crossbow again, and shot another arrow.
She blocked it easily since it was kind of hard not to in such a small space, so maybe that should’ve easier her worries just a little.
Though, it’s kinda hard to be at ease when that shot could be what put her on death's door.
So she backed away.
They followed her.
She backed away again, placing a couple blocks.
They broke through so she replaced them.
She was getting nowhere fast, and knew this wouldn’t keep her safe for long, but she didn’t have much to work with.
So, she kept doing it. Giving up would be worse than actually putting in some effort, even if the effort wasn’t very effective.
She considered running, but turning her back would get her shot and killed, so she ruled it out.
As she built up another wall, she got a message. She hurriedly flipped it open, glancing between her comm and fhe actively breaking wall.
<Tia DragonG>

Tania broke through.
She built up another quick wall, typing a response as soon as it was up.

Her arm burned.
She was at half a heart.
She was dying.
They were talking. They were saying something hard to hear over the sizzling, but she heard bits and pieces.
“-you not burning? You…urning. You should be…uld be burning. Why don…burn? Why…you burn?”
They picked up their lava, stepping close and letting her head their next words loud and clear.
“Goodbye little Life.”

She rushed to her feet, hurrying down the ladders but careful enough as to not just jump, cause that’s stupid.
She crossed the room and slid down, getting close enough to the ground that she deemed it safe jumping distance, and promptly ran to the door.
Tania was there, seeming incredibly proud of themself. “No more limes here.”
Then she realized, because Cleo and Aspen were gone, she was technically the last lime.
Wasn’t that a thought.
<3 <3 <3
She had made her way down to collect her items, when she ran into a problem she created.
There was a block in the way. That was her fault.
She had no pickaxe. That was on Tania.
She frowned. She definitely could do it by hand, but that hurts and takes a while. Still, it’ll take even longer if she doesn’t start. So, she brought a hand to it and braced herself for the pain.
Instead, she was surrounded by stone.
She found four identical walls, ones of untouched stone, none of them showed no sign of where she’d come from.
It was as if she’d never mined down here to begin with, which didn’t make sense because she was very much there.
She shook her head of the memory, she wasn’t gonna panic. She was going to stay calm, and she was gonna figure this out.
Figuring it out actually came pretty easily. She tried to move, and found herself free once again.
On the other side of the block.
That. That wasn’t normal, was it.
She felt that same buzz, and realized it was them. She smiled, thanking them silently, and continuing down.
Despite her small distraction, when she arrived to her items, they were all still intact. Even despite the amount of fire and lava involved in her demise.
When she was sorting through items, she found quite a few things that she was fairly sure didn’t belong to her.
Seventeen fireworks, a block of tnt, a chestplate, and leggings.
She already had all her amor on, and she didn’t have the sugarcane for anything explosive.
At this rate, she didn’t wanna know where it came from.
<3 <3 <3
She’d been thinking, and she had a question. It was a bit stupid, but she needed to know.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
We fought, we fell, we came, we saw
We played, we died, we laughed along
We worked, we lived, we killed, we loved
The first had fallen, the games soon be done
All good things must come to an end
Looking back we’ll always be back then
But never forget what has been passed
Memories good and not, let them last
She was with the being, she could feel the connection. It was strange, new but right, it made her feel whole.
“Child-“ The being spoke, panicked.
Her eyes snapped open, she tensed and looked around wildly.
The connection changed, the safety was gone. It was cold, unnerving and tight.
They
were here.
“Hello, Praeteri.”
“That’s not my name.” She said beneath her breath, trying to remember what the being told her.
Keep calm, keep the connection, don’t give in.
“Then what is your name?”
They spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
“Oh, wait..”
They spoke like they were having a genuine realization, salt in the wound.
“You don’t remember, do you?”
They laughed.
“You’re nothing, Praeteri. Nothing in the pathetic life you decided you wanted.”
“I’m not going with you.” She managed to get out, trying to break off the connection.
It turned suffocatingly tight, giving her chills.
“You will. You’ll never be enough to be a winner.”
She stopped. She went quiet. Because they were right. She was never going to be enough, was she?
“I-“ She tried, but they were right.
The void started changing. The being was fighting back the violet cracks. It wasn’t doing much, but they kept doing it.
They were- “Messing up, not giving up.” She realized.
They scowled.
“What?”
“I’m not giving up.” She spoke, finality in her tone. “I’m gonna do it for them.”
She grabbed the connection, and she pulled. It snapped, They recoiled.
“I’m gonna live for her.” They were gone.
The being returned, relieved. “You did well.”
Then, they seemed sad. “But I don’t have the strength to keep Them at bay forever. You need strength.” The being told her softly.
She frowned. “But They’re not exactly physical, what would strength do?”
They shook their head lightly. “Not that kind of strength, like a title. A title brings strength in meaning and reputation.” The being explained.
She hummed. “So, like how someone could be called a legend or monster, those bring strength?”
The being nodded. “Precisely, yes.”
“What kind of title would I be able to get?” She wondered to the being.
They seemed to think. “Not many are available to you, and the only one I could give you would be my Progeny, as you’re too young to be a Demi-god.”
“Would that work?” She ran a hand through her wings to try and ease herself.
“I don’t think so. If They were willing to break into my domain, the title wouldn’t mean anything to them.”
She nodded. “So it has to mean something to them.” She murmured.
Then, she realized.
“Winner.”
The being turned curious. “What did you say?”
She looked to them. “I need to win.” She elaborated.
“This is Their game. What could mean more to them than winning it?”
“And you’re sure you can do it?” The being asked her softly.
She deflated a little. “No.. but I can try my best.”
She was embraced in their warmth. “Good luck, child.”
She couldn’t do it, but she had to try.
<3 <3 <3
She was perched on the left wall, running her hands through her feathers while she waited for everyone to be ready.
It’d been a few minutes since the session began, about eight of them were left, so she decided to ask if everyone was up.

<MoDoubleSS>
let’s do this!
She pocketed her comm and headed off.
<3 <3 <3
Since today was a pretty important day, she decided to look inside their very important chest, the small one inside what would’ve been the roots.
Despite what you’d expect, there really wasn’t much inside the chest. It had her tnt, fireworks, and the flowers, but not much else.
There was a strange buzz in the back of her mind, the soft one, when she glanced at her spare leggings and boots. Even to this day, she still didn’t know where she got it from.
She put it in the chest as well. Hopefully no one stole it if they came around.
<3 <3 <3
Her and Caly had been talking about stealing from Stormy since they’d, yknow, died n’ all that. So, that’s what they came to do.
Caly had actually gone outside instead, so she decided to look around on her own.
On the highest floor was their storage area, with one wall missing, and the one below it with their bed.
They had two chests. One large chest and a smaller one half its size on top. She opened the larger one to look for useful items.
Just like her own chests, these were pretty messy. But, she did find some useful stuff inside.
A raw chicken, three raw mutton, three string, two very low durability bows, fourteen coal, six glow berries, two wheat seeds, and five rotten flesh.
It was mostly food, that’s cause she had none and it was very important. She’d given Caly her last steak as well earlier, so it was very much needed.
She opened up the smaller chest. It was mostly dirt and gravel, which wasn’t surprising since Stormy spent a lot of time digging. But, there was also wheat. Just one, but she took it anyways.
She climbed down the ladder to their small bedroom-like area. She put the chicken in the furnace and a few logs as fuel, before climbing back up.
She opened the large chest and looked over the items again.
She took six cherry logs this time.
She climbed down to trade the now cooked chicken out for raw mutton.
She climbed back up and opened the chest. This time, she dropped off a bunch of flowers since they wouldn’t be of much use to her.
There was seven nether quartz, and she considered taking it, but quite honestly, she didn’t trust herself with something like that, so she left it.
What she did take, however, was a relatively unused chestplate sitting at the bottom. It had its fair share of scratches, but was pretty sturdy and would definitely last a while.
She closed that chest and opened the small one. Somehow, she managed to miss two arrows sitting inside, so she added them to the eight she already had and closed the chest.
Then, climbing down yet again, she grabbed the now cooked mutton and made her way down to ground level.
<3 <3 <3
Outside, she saw Caly. They decided to tak on the task of making Stormy a grave.
It was cute. A birch plank with a slab, next to it was two birch logs and a slab atop it.
They were still decorating, adding signs and flowers, so she decided to be productive. She grabbed a stack of cobble she had on her and started to outline a wall around the area.
Considering that she really wanted Stormy to be resting in peace, their gravesite being trampled by just about anything didn’t sound fun.
It was peaceful. She built quietly while Caly added her special touches, they did this for about ten minutes.
Once the walls were built up, she hopped down to get a closer look.
RIP

Despite the meaning, she still laughed. From wherever Stormy was, she hoped they enjoyed it too.
<3 <3 <3
Tania had showed up at some point, but for quite a while she just saw them sit there, walk around, then sit there again. It was a little strange, but strange was practically the story of her life, so she couldn’t be one to talk.
Then, they used words for the first time since they’d arrived.
“We’re heading to my red base. Bring leather boots if you’d like.” They said casually.
She could’ve swore she saw some leather earlier, even if she didn’t remember killing any cows. So, she nodded and headed back inside. She made her way up the oh so conveniently placed ladders to the top.
She dug through the larger chest, and managed to find five leather, somehow. She used four for a pair of boots she’d probably be giving to Caly. Then, she went out to the hole in the wall, through the treetops, down the walls around Stormy’s resting place, and safely landed on the ground.
She made her way through the doors, and then all the way up the tower, again, to their chests. She stepped off the ladder and came to crouch in front of the larger chest. She opened it, pushed around the items she’d seen way too many times already, but found it worth it when she pulled out three leather.
“The perfect amount.” She murmured with a smile as she added it to her spare one.
She headed down a level to use their crafting table, making herself her own pair of leather boots as well.
Wait.. leather boots?
She buried her face in her hands. “Please don’t tell me it’s in the snow.”
<3 <3 <3
Guess what.
It was in the snow.
Now, she didn’t hate the snowy biomes. They were quite pretty. The snow was beautiful, even if she didn’t see it often.
But, it was cold, and the snow got in her feathers, and don’t even get her started on powdered snow. The amount of times she’d fallen in and had to make her way out alone was too many.
She preferred forests, where it was warm and green, very comfy. That’s another reason she loved her home. It was nice and warm.
But back to the present, it was night out, and Tania stopped, but she still had no clue where theit base was.
Until, she nearly walked into it.
That was a fun time.
It was pretty tall, maybe about twenty blocks tall and reasonably wide. But it was deepslate, so she genuinely had noticed it since it blended in with the sky.
She circled around it, a hand brushing along the walls as she examined it.
And guess what!
There was no door!
How lovely.
<3 <3 <3
She spent about five minutes trying to get in on her own.
Then she did.
But then she spent like another three showing Caly how to get in.
Because for some reason Tania expected them to realize it was hidden in powder snow. Yeah, cause that was normal. But, considering that this is their Red Base, a door was probably being too generous.
It was actually pretty homey inside, believe it or not. It was a floor of tuff with a campfire, four furnaces on the wall across from the entrance, and a very thin staircase that went up to nowhere.
She sat on top of a furnace, Caly stood next to the campfire, and Tania leaned against the wall. For a while, the crackle of the fire was all she heard.
“We need the Temple gone.” Tania spoke up.
Yeah, Temple was an issue. An entire team of lime greens was dangerous. Especially in the end game where every life mattered and the only person who managed to kill Cleo was out.
“I’m not a good fighter.” Caly said, a little sheepish.
Yeah, Tania was the fighter in the alliance. They were the kind to make every move with an intention and deadly precision.
She, on the other hand, was a ‘swing and hope it kills them’ person, who would likely die as soon as they tried to attack back.
So yeah, PvP was probably a later resort.
“We could always try and lure them to trap.” She added to the conversation.
Tania hummed, seeming to think about it.
Caly cleared their throat. “Just one little problemo.” She said with a slightly nervous smile, and pulled out their boogey stick.
She facepalmed. “Of course you got Boogey.”
Tania didn’t seem too bothered, a bit more excited than anything. The madwoman. “Don’t worry, I can help with that.”
<3 <3 <3
Tania had left a few minutes prior, heading off to get some supplies from her CODE base. That left her and Caly outside their red base.
That was because Caly was blacked out.
When it happened, she’d rightfully panicked. It was entirely out of nowhere, and there were no mobs around to have been the cause, aside from maybe phantoms, but they hadn’t gotten close enough to do any damage.
She’d checked their pulse a few times, and it was still beating steady, a little slower, but that was probably just from them being unconscious.
She’d taken off her cloak from around her and laid it on top of her pair. She wasn’t sure how elf biology worked, but she didn’t wanna risk them getting too cold and dying on her.
Sure, she didn’t like the cold either, but it wouldn’t kill her. She could survive a little snow.
But yeah, that’s why she was still there. She’d been checking up on them every few minutes while fighting off the occasional phantom that decided to be a snarky little son of a boat and try to attack.
Then, while she was scanning the area, she saw them move.
Without another thought she rushed to their side, crouching down to check on them. They were a little cold, but they were waking up. She smiled relief.
The snow shifted.
She hit the ground before she realized she was falling.

was impaled on a stalagmite
<3 <3 <3
She sat up instantly, the aches from the stalagmites impaling her making their painfully slow exit as she became a bit more coherent.
“Fuck.” She was a pretty PG person most of the time, but she felt that this time, she could let that go, just a little.
She opened her comm and ran a hand over her face.
<Tia DragonG>
NOOOO
At least Caly was up again.
“That was stupid of me, my god.” She scolded herself.
<kittyfankayla>
that sucks
<kittyfankayla>
accident?
Before she explained what happened, she realized she’d be giving away Tania’s trap that could definitely be used for someone else. So she was very, very vague about how she died.
<MoDoubleSS>
trap
<kittyfankayla>
who did?
Time to be a professional at avoiding the question.
<MoDoubleSS> it wasnt for me, I just didn’t remember it was there
<Tia DragonG>
where did you die
<MoDoubleSS>
Caly I was right next to you
<MoDoubleSS>
dont shift
Hopefully they got the idea of what happened.
<3 <3 <3
She was scared.
Now, the reason she was scared wasn’t too new. She was used to the stakes that came with limited lives by this point.
But, she’d never been on her last, and that was a pretty scary thought. One wrong move and it would all be over. She’d done pretty well at surviving, but she died in such a stupid way, how did she know that wouldn’t happen again?
So, instead of going out and braving the tundra, she stayed home.
That’s not to say she just sat there, not even close.
The first thing she did was dig through their chests, where old and discarded items became useful again.
She found a stone sword, a stack of coal, and some logs. Then, she headed to Stormy’s tower, traveling on foot instead of down the trees since she had no armor or food.
There, she found a low durability pickaxe, about a stack and then some of cobble, and a stone axe.
She remade what tools she didn’t find out of stone and headed back home.
She went through the whole process pretty quietly, aside from little murmurs every now and again, her footsteps being the only noise actually brought her some security. Their steady thumps and knowing she was relatively safe. This continued as she headed down into the mine, where steps echoed a little as she walked.
Walking through the opened doorway to roots since they’d given up on it being secret, she beelined for their small chest.
She couldn’t have been more relieved that she’d left some armor inside, as she slipped on the leggings and boots, giving her just a little more security.
There was also twelve iron ingots inside, so she dedicated one to a shield and left the rest inside. She didn’t wanna waste all of the iron just to die with it, so if she was gonna get armor, she was gonna earn it back.
She made some torches and headed down, hopefully she’d get lucky with some iron.
<3 <3 <3
She resurfaced with eight raw iron, a chestplate from the already smelted iron, and was met with the sight of Caly, conscious, alive, and well. She’d broken the promise that they wouldn’t leave each others’ sides, which did make her really sad, but at least they were alive.
They gave her a strange look when she waved at them, but didn’t voice what caused it.
She was given her leggings, both sets of boots, her Diamond, and her sword.
“This is all I could find.” They told her.
She nodded, accepting the items. It wasn’t great, but considering that it was purely her fault, she wasn’t in any place to complain. Plus, she wasn’t the one who had to retrieve it.
“Thank you for my stuff.” She said as she reorganized her inventory, arranging things in her bag.
<3 <3 <3
After smelting some of her iron, she decided to make herself a bucket. She left it empty though, since she didn’t feel like trying to go all the way down the mountain to get some when it was dark out.
She’d completely forgotten that she made a source like two sessions ago so Caly wouldn’t have to go all the way down the mountain to get some.
Still, Caly was outside being productive, so she went out to join them. Yet again, she didn’t notice the perfectly usable water source like two blocks away from where she was looking.
Caly was in the pen with the animals, feeding them the little wheat they had from the small wheat farm they’d started.
She had a wheat on her.
So, she walked over to them, leaning over the fence, and held it out to them. They jumped a little upon noticing her, but it was short lived, as they accepted the wheat.
As they did, her comm buzzed. She stepped back to open it.

<3 <3 <3
She was up at the top of the tower when she saw a figure outside the walls, which gave her a thought she definitelyshould’ve had earlier.
If there’s anyone outside the base that isn’t Tania or Caly, there is undoubtedly an issue.
Good thing it was Tania.
They gave her a look as they tapped on their wrist comm.
Pretty known fact, there were a few different models that comms can come in. The newer versions were wrist comms, which were kind of like a cuff that could project a screen and have the keyboard as the cuff screen.
The older versions were box-like. Imagine a, like a box that you used when playing Battleship, it was shaped like that. It made it feel more real, so she’d always preferred it.
But that was besides the point. What was the point, was the potentially dooming and ominous message Tania just sent.
<TaniaHealer>
guys I’m giving Keiko interference
“Oh no.” Knowing Tania, “interference” could mean anything from light sabotage to wardens.
<ChibiKeiko>
you should be afraid
She felt like being a silly thing today, so she’d do that it chat.
<MoDoubleSS>
*quakes in boots*
She laughed quietly as she closed her comm, looking out to where Tania had been.
Her smile fell a little when she saw them leaving, with Caly. She hurried down the ladders, hoping to reach them before they got to the walls.
When she did, Tania was gone, but Caly was about to hop off the wall.
“Caly!” She called out, shying back when she realized she’d yelled.
They looked at her quietly, the moon behind them feeling like something out of a movie.
She swallows quietly. “Are you gonna need me?”
After a moment, her expression turned soft smile, they shook their head. “You stay safe.”
Right.
She wasn’t strong enough to keep herself safe.
Why did she ever think she’d be enough for them to need her around?
“..alright.”
They gave her one last smile, and disappeared.
She wasn’t gonna give up, but times like then, it was a little tempting.
<3 <3 <3
She was mining again, hoping to do something useful, which is why she was so deep underground.
Then, her vision started to darken.
She fought it off as soon as she realized. She wasn’t going with Them.
It kept trying to overpower her, but she held as strong as she could, gripping the deepslate with her hand as she kept strong.
She kept at this for a while, too long, and her own exhaustion did the rest of the work for Them.
<3 <3 <3
She woke up to a buzzing comm. Her vision was blurry, she was slumped against the wall, but she still managed to open her comm and read the message.

She smiled weakly. At least they were doing alright without her.
<3 <3 <3
She’d stayed like that far longer than she was happy with, eyes closed and just letting herself rest for a little.
When she opened her comm again, she realized she’d managed to miss quite a few messages.
Tania had gotten three kills, both Showstoppers were out, and Caly was still alive.
They didn’t need her, and she didn’t know whether to be hurting or happy.
She could wallow in self pity over being weak later, she had things to do.
<3 <3 <3
After walking up the staircase for a while, she ended up barely passing the little pit stop with furnaces and a crafting table, when she stopped.
She stopped because she saw Caly. There was a sad, tired look in their yellow eyes.
Their voice was tired, resigned and soft, yet their words hit her like a train.
“I want you to kill me.”
She was at a loss for words.
“Why?” She asked them quietly.
They sat down on the crafting table, leaned against the wall. “I can’t do this much longer. I need to go.”
She brought a hand over her mouth, wings coming to wrap tighter around her, she listened to their words carefully.
“I don’t want to leave here angry at my killer. I want my season to end in peace.”
They wanted an escape.
They wanted peace.
They wanted her to give them that freedom.
Was it a little selfish of her to not want them to go..?
<3 <3 <3
Caly had killed herself on her yellow life, done it in a way she was honestly unsure of, the time leading up to current moment had been a bit blurry.
But here they were, eyes red just like hers, and ready to go.
Maybe it was her stalling, but she saw something.
She saw something so old yet she remembered it so well.
She saw a memory of the beginning of their friendship.
She ran over to it, they rushed to follow, and stopped a ways away from it.
It was the bridge.
She smiled, looking across the river to the other mountain that she knew was home. But, mountains are very tall, and she felt like taking an easier route. So, she started to bridge.
Caly treaded carefully behind her, footsteps light as they followed slowly.
All the way back in session three, back when she first brought Caly to her home.
“C’mere.” She gestured for them to follow as she stepped onto the thin dirt bridge.
Then, she had the scare of her life.
For a moment so brief, she wasn’t on the bridge anymore, for a moment so brief, she had fallen.
It was fake.
It was Them.
It worked.
She’d yelped, falling, she landed in the water with barely a gasp of air.
She coughed as she went under.
She scrambled for the surface, the rush only fueled by the Drowned and it’s glowing eyes making its way towards her.
She gasped for air as she reached the surface again, trying to pull herself up again.
They kept putting her back in.
She was being bit and scratched by the Drowned.
She was at half health.
She was panicking.
She was dying.
She kicked the drowned back and scrambled away from the river before They could try and drag her back, tripling on her feet yet again, and landing on her knees in a small patch of grass with tall mountain walls. She pushed herself into the corner, knees to her chest, and tried to ignore the fear in her chest that made her feel like a child again.
She stayed like that, shaking, for a while, because she was at two hearts. Two hits away from death. Two moments away from being gone..
She couldn’t do this.
She’d proved time and time again that she couldn’t do this.
So why did she keep on pretending she could?
Why did she keep getting back up and facing everything that everyone knew could kill her in seconds.
Why did she keep acting like she was enough?
“Sam?”
She raised her head, just enough to see Caly around the corner. Their expression softened, they reached for her and helped her to her shaky feet.
“C’mon.”
She was a little dazed yet hyper aware of everything, wanting to curl up and die yet scared of everything that could potentially do that.
Caly holding her hand was all that kept her grounded to real life as they helped her back inside.
They were stood to the side of the tower, right where she’d started the session as well.
She held her sword with shaking hands.
“You can do this.” Caly reassured her.
She raised her sword, taking a steadying breath. All she had to do was this, then she could jump and join them.
She brought the sword down as they spoke.
“You can win.”

She froze.
“I can win..?”
They died, but they died thinking she was going to live. That was their dying wish.
She couldn’t die now, she couldn’t. She couldn’t disappoint them, because they had the faith that she could survive, that she could win.
She wasn’t giving up. Not yet.
<3 <3 <3
She worked quietly, starting off slow.
She went up to their chests, discarding items she wouldn’t be needing like deepslate, and replacing them with things she did need like wood.
She walked slowly, making her way back down.
Caly’s wheat farm had three grown. She turned them to bread, sitting down by the campfire and eating quietly.
Four hearts.
Standing over the animal pen, she hesitated. They were probably the oldest things in the base, and it hurt her to kill them. But she knew death would be kinder to them than living in a hole for the rest of their days.
She cooked the steak and mutton on the campfire.
Six and a half hearts.
As she listened to the fire crackle, she had a thought.
She was alone for the first time.
Before, back in the first session, she had her neighbors. Then, she had Stormy. Then it was Stormy and Caly.
But, she was alone. And it was gonna stay that way.
Her comm gave a quiet buzz.
<kittyfankayla>
Caly sends her support from the grave
She smiled softly. That’s who she was fighting for.
<3 <3 <3
At some point, a death match was proposed.
One final fight at spawn.
Equal distance, equal supplies, no alliances, whoever makes it out is the winner.
<ChibiKeiko>
anyone need a lift?
Eight and a half hearts.
<MoDoubleSS>
in a little bit yeah
She wanted to be at full health, since that was probably safer for her, and she had armor since Cleo mentioned needing some.
Her comm buzzed.
It felt like the floor came out from beneath her.

<TaniaHealer> Sammy~
Her mind was running a million miles an hour, no coherent thoughts but pure panic that only grew as they broke through the walls.
They moved in a blur, she didn’t have the time to think because within seconds there was a deadly pain in her stomach and she was dead.
She was in the void.
She could see Them, Them and Their many eyes.
She was alone, the void was filled with violet cracks that grew brighter and brighter.
She failed.
The End.
The void shifted, Their clutches fought off by a type of being far outside of any of their wildest imaginations.
They were gone, and in Their place was a familiar figure.
The figure wore a dark cloak that flowed down to the floor, it rested over their face enough to hide the details in its shadow. There was a mask over their eyes that looked kind of like tree bark, a green cloth mask with a purple trim that rested over what the bark mask didn’t cover.
Despite never seeing this being before, they felt familiar, safe even. Her stance relaxed.“Hello..?” She said hesitantly, words echoing a little.“Hello, little Portal Hopper.” The voice was strange, vaguely familiar yet she couldn’t place where she’d heard it.“Who are you?” She asked, maybe she could get an not so ominous answer she usually got in the void.
”I am... a Creator. You wouldn't know what that is, I'd guess, given the void we're in," The figure said, looking around. "You'd know those pesky Watchers instead.”That wasn’t very helpful, though she was a little curious about their mention of Them.“I am Tania's Creator, and hostess of the Game you just finished playing. I'm here to give you something."That. That didn’t make sense, but it helped a little bit. They reached into their cloak, and when their hand came back to view, they had something. It was a crown. The crown was gold, it had six little heart shaped gems on it. Three dark green, one lime, one yellow, and one red. Lives. The Creator stepped closer to her, giving her a glance of something on the crown, an engraving in a language not many understood, but she did.ᓭᔑᒲ ᔑ. !¡╎!¡╎ℸ ̣Sam A. Pipit.
Her name. Not Praeteri. They placed it on her head carefully, which was easy since they were tall enough for that. Then, she realized.”I.. I won?”The Creator stepped back, nodding quietly.“My Creation did things I shouldn't have let her do. You were the next best candidate for winner," They shrugged. She won.. somehow. Some way. She won. They were gone before she could thank them. She was safe, she won.
The end..
