A late night walk and maybe a love confession.
The night air is crisp but not too cold, just enough to warrant light jackets and the occasional brush of hands as Kyungsoo and Baekhyun walk side by side. The city is unusually quiet, the hum of distant traffic muffled by the stillness of the late hour. The golden glow of the streetlights stretches across the empty sidewalks, casting long shadows as the two stroll home after a long day spent with friends.
They’ve been talking nonstop, as usual, their conversation ranging from absurd jokes about their friends to Baekhyun’s wild theories about life. Kyungsoo chuckles at Baekhyun’s latest quip, the kind of laugh that’s small but genuine, the type of reaction Baekhyun has grown to crave from him.
“You know,” Baekhyun says, nudging Kyungsoo playfully with his elbow, “you’re the only one who laughs at my jokes. Everyone else just groans and calls me annoying.”
Kyungsoo smirks, his eyes glinting with amusement. “Maybe I’m the only one who understands your sense of humor. Or maybe I just have the patience of a saint.”
Baekhyun laughs, the sound light and melodic, and Kyungsoo finds himself smiling wider without meaning to. It’s always like this with Baekhyun—effortless, warm, and unspokenly comforting.
But then Baekhyun slows his pace, his steps faltering until he finally stops. Kyungsoo turns to face him, one eyebrow slightly raised in question. The playful gleam in Baekhyun’s eyes fades, replaced by something deeper, something that makes Kyungsoo’s breath catch without him fully understanding why.
Baekhyun looks at him for a moment, his expression serious yet soft, as if he’s weighing his words carefully. “You know,” he starts, his voice quieter now, “I like you, right?”
Kyungsoo’s heart skips a beat. The air seems to shift around them, the distant sounds of the city fading into the background. His first instinct is to look away, but Baekhyun’s gaze holds him in place—steady, sincere, and just a little bit vulnerable.
For a second, Kyungsoo forgets how to respond. He’s not sure if it’s the weight of Baekhyun’s words or the way they’re delivered—with no pretense, no hesitation, just pure honesty. Finally, he nods, his voice soft but firm. “Yeah. I know.”
Baekhyun’s lips twitch into a small, almost shy smile, but before Kyungsoo can say anything else, Baekhyun takes a step closer. Their faces are just inches apart now, and Kyungsoo can see the faint flush on Baekhyun’s cheeks even in the dim light.
Baekhyun hesitates for only a moment, as if giving Kyungsoo the chance to pull away. But when Kyungsoo doesn’t move, when he holds Baekhyun’s gaze with quiet acceptance, Baekhyun leans in. His lips meet Kyungsoo’s in a kiss that’s soft but certain, the kind of kiss that says all the things words can’t.
Kyungsoo’s eyes flutter shut as warmth blooms in his chest, spreading through him like a fire lit on a cold night. Baekhyun’s lips are gentle against his, but there’s an underlying passion, a feeling of something long overdue finally falling into place. Kyungsoo’s hand lifts almost instinctively, brushing against Baekhyun’s arm before settling there, his fingers curling slightly as if anchoring himself to the moment.
When they finally pull apart, the world feels different—quieter, somehow, but also brighter. Baekhyun’s smile is back, soft and a little breathless, and Kyungsoo can’t help but mirror it.
“So,” Baekhyun says, his voice teasing but still laced with that same vulnerability. “Does this mean you’ll keep laughing at my jokes?”
Kyungsoo rolls his eyes, but there’s no mistaking the affection in his tone as he replies, “Someone has to. I guess I’m stuck with the job.”
Baekhyun grins, nudging him again as they start walking. But now, their hands brush more intentionally, until Baekhyun reaches out and laces their fingers together. Kyungsoo doesn’t pull away, his thumb brushing lightly over Baekhyun’s hand as they continue down the quiet street, the glow of the streetlights guiding their way home.
