It had been a while since there was quiet in the Cacao Kingdom.
And Molten Mousse Cookie didn’t mean war, or famine, or outbreak. He meant literal quiet.
Cookies from far and wide had made the Cacao Kingdom their personal hangout spot, and the numbers just seemed to grow by the hour. So Molten Mousse wasn’t surprised when a whole band showed up.
The cookie with the black mullet and wide smile greets the others, and Cherry Scone Cookie runs off (presumably to grab orange slices).
The one with the bright red mohawk stands back and observes his surroundings. Molten Mousse thinks that maybe they might get along.
He’s lost in thought as a string of laughter snaps him out of it. He shifts his focus to the source as he’s met with probably the strangest looking cookie he’s ever seen.
Short with electric blue spiked hair, the cookie twirls a drumstick in his hand while bouncing his right leg.
Mousse watches as they throw their head back when they laugh as if they had just been hit square in the forehead. He then notices the lack of shirt.
His eyebrows scrunch up a bit. How cold must this cookie be? The Cacao Kingdom was not known for its warm temperatures. He didn’t look that cold, but there was no way he wasn’t. The only thing was a leather-rope necklace hanging around this cookie’s neck, and there was absolutely no way that it was covering anything.
Mousse jolts out of his thoughts as he notices that he’s been staring. And that the cookie was now looking back at him. He curses internally, he wants to hit himself.
The cookie stares back, an unreadable expression on his face. His mouth pulled into a smirk, he looks Mousse up and down, as if he were appraising him.
A white-hot flash sears through him, and it settles on his cheeks. He questions this cookie’s motives. Why were they… like that..?
He sighs lightly and looks straight ahead, trying to distract himself. Cherry Scone had returned with the orange slices now, rushing over to every cookie and delivering them, insisting that those who refused them take some.
Molten Mousse laughs lightly, amused by how stubborn Cherry Scone Cookie could be.
Although he knew he shouldn’t, he starts to try and steal glances at the spikey-haired cookie when he could.
His face hot, he gazes over once, twice, three times, and each time he sees a flash of the cookie’s blue hair his heart lurches. He wills it to beat slower.
A familiar voice makes him jump. “Molten Mousse!”
He twitches slightly, and looks over to find Konpeito Cookie staring at him, grinning. “Whatcha doing?”
He clears his throat. “My job?” He grumbles, slightly annoyed that his secretive watching was being interrupted.
Konpeito Cookie smirks. “Noo you’re not!” He giggles. Molten Mousse raises an eyebrow.
“Uhm, yes I am? Don’t you see me standing here?” He asks, confused. How could he not be doing his job?
Konpeito sidles up next to him, stifling his laughter. “I see you staring!” He whispers into Mousse’s ear. His cheeks heat up.
“N–No…” Is all he manages.
Konpeito could see right through it. He giggles again. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell papa!” He winks, and runs off.
Molten Mousse curses lightly. He needed to be more subtle if he was going to continue his secret staring mission.
He shakes it off, assumes position, and looks forward again.
He wonders if he was really that obvious. Konpeito was better at reading cookies than anyone he knew, maybe he had just guessed? His mind wonders, and he glances back over to the spot where that cookie was sitting.
He does a double take as the seat was empty.
Shit.
Molten Mousse feels disappointment pool in his stomach. That cookie could be anywhere by now, and he wasn’t moving spots for another hour. He needs to think of an excuse, anything to–
“Hey.”
Molten Mousse doesn’t jump this time. In fact, he doesn’t move. The voice, unfamiliar, yet he knew exactly who was beside him.
“Hello.” He manages.
“Some party, huh?” The cookie responds.
“I guess so.” The words tumble out, automatic, like he wasn’t in control.
He forces himself to look downwards and to his side. The cookie’s bright blue hair comes into view, and then he sees their face.
Up close, he notices how brown their eyes were. They sparkled almost.
The cookie laughs. “You’ve got a bit of a staring problem there, bud.”
Embarrassment sears through him, although he guesses the cookie was right.
“What is your name?” He asks them, partially to change the subject and partially because he really wanted to know.
The cookie smiles. “I’m Berry Jam Cookie, fastest drummer on all of Earthbread!” He sticks out his hand. Molten Mousse shakes it, noting how much smaller Berry Jam’s hand was compared to his.
“Hello, Berry Jam Cookie. It’s nice to meet you.” He spits out his formal guard greeting, unable to think of anything else to say.
Berry Jam Cookie giggles and puts his hand up to his mouth. “So formal!”
Molten Mousse lets out a chuckle as well, but mostly watches Berry Jam laugh.
He turns his head back to the crowd, scanning it. About five more cookies had shown up since he had started to talk to Berry Jam Cookie. The volume only starts to get louder.
“So many cookies in one place…” He says out loud.
Berry Jam nods, grinning. Molten Mousse can feel he’s looking at him.
“Need me to leave you be? I get it if it’s a bit too much.” Berry Jam says. Mousse furrows his eyebrows and looks back at him, sensing a tinge of melancholy within his usually cheery tone.
“No.. I actually quite enjoy your company.” He says, truthfully. He looks back to the crowd of cookies.
“I enjoy the company of all the cookies here, that's not ridiculous to say is it?” He admits. Guarding was often lonely, and although it was chaotic, the amount of people around having fun made him happy.
Berry Jam’s grin widens. “Ah thanks big man! I think I like you too!”
Molten Mousse’s face heats up at the admission, although it was rather platonic.
“I actually enjoy you being here a lot, you're kind of.. ‘chill.’ Am I using that correctly?” He forces the words out of his mouth. He hopes he’s reading the room right, or else it was about to get a little awkward.
Berry Jam giggles a little. “Chill? That's wild! No one's ever called me that! I'm usually described as ‘off the rails crazy.’”
Molten Mousse bites his tongue. He wants this to continue, but the cookie next to him has played well off of plausible deniability so far. He decides to go for it.
“I haven't gotten to experience that ‘crazy’ side of you yet.” The words leave his mouth and hang in the air like smoke from a campfire. He watches him carefully.
Berry Jam’s eyes shift downwards, and then back up again, the corner of their mouth tugging upwards in a smirk.
“I could show you if you’d like…”
An invitation.
Molten Mousse feels his face heat up. He and this cookie had barely met, yet he was so bold. He watches Berry Jam swirl the water he was holding, then he makes eye contact.
“I wouldn’t mind.”
The glint in Berry Jam’s eyes narrows, almost as an admission.
“Jesus–”
Berry Jam had dragged Molten Mousse blindly through the castle. Although Mousse had tried to tell him that his sleeping quarters were just around the corner, Berry Jam had shushed him with a smirk and turned back around. The pair were now stuffed in a storage closet.
It was so hot. Almost uncomfortably so. Mousse could feel Berry Jam’s breath ghosting his neck as he tried to get comfortable, and it sent waves of heat down his body. A trickle of sweat making its way down his neck, all he can hear is the light squeak of Berry Jam’s sneakers on the floor.
“Ever made out in a closet before?” Berry Jam asks, breaking the silence. Molten Mousse lets out an exasperated laugh at his bluntness. He stares off into the darkness for a moment.
“No… I don’t think I have..” He jolts as he feels Berry Jam’s arm snake up beneath his scarf.
“Glad to be your first then!” He says cheerily, urging for Molten Mousse to take it off.
Mousse freezes as blush makes its way down his neck. “Are we gonna–”
“Only if you want to.” Berry Jam interrupts him, his tone a little more serious than usual. Molten Mousse nods. “I just uh– have to get back to my position is all…”
Berry Jam grins. “Another time, then!”
Before he can process the fact that there might be a second time he pulls the scarf over his head, some relief washing over him. It was so hot in that goddamn closet.
Suddenly Berry Jam’s hands are everywhere. It was almost a shock to Mousse, but after a second he melts into his touch. A content sigh escapes his lips.
“Wow…” Berry Jam breathes out. It makes Mousse blush. “See anything you like?” he manages.
He can see Berry Jam smirk a little in the dark. He squints his eyes awkwardly. “It’s a little hard to see. But everything I feel is awesome.”
Molten Mousse laughs a little at that. Berry Jam suddenly stops. “Can I kiss you?”
It rings out in the air. Molten Mousse thinks his ears are ringing a bit. A “Yes of course.” forces its way out of his mouth faster than he likes.
He feels a hand cup the side out his mouth, and Berry Jam’s face is suddenly inches away from his own. Molten Mousse takes a breath in, admiring the cookies smell. He makes eye contact and nods.
His eyes closed, their lips touch. An electric shock makes its way through Mousse’s body and oh–
wow
. He sighs into it, gripping Berry Jam’s waist. He feels everything go quiet for a moment–that is until Berry Jam pulls away.
He gasps for air, confused as to how long they stayed like that. He watches Berry Jam wipe his mouth and grin. He doesn’t move.
He was driving him crazy. Was he going to kiss him again? He blinks up at Mousse, almost innocently. Exasperated, he grabs Berry Jam’s face and kisses him hard.
He can feel Berry Jam smile against his lips. He knew he was teasing him.
Bastard.
Berry Jam’s mouth opens slightly, inviting Mousse in.
He obliges, and sighs as they explore each other’s mouths. Berry Jam tastes sweet, and he laughs a little at the concept.
Berry Jam’s hand grips his waist, pulling him impossibly closer. He grunts, trying, and failing to move more into Berry Jam’s space.
Berry Jam’s hands are all over him again, the back of his neck, his waist, his arms– and he can hardly pay attention to that with his mouth on him. They would break apart to breathe only to come back to each other.
The way he used it with such precision was baffling, Molten Mousse almost wanted to scream about it.
He eats up every little noise Berry Jam makes, relishing in how he was making the other feel, even though Berry Jam clearly had an effect on him.
Everything was so intense, everything felt so loud. Berry Jam suddenly breaks off. He almost says something before he feels a mouth attach itself to his neck.
He yelps a little too loud, and then he grunts.
“God– Berry you– can’t–” He manages before Berry Jam is back to kissing him.
It was almost too much. Berry Jam, his hands, his breath, the sounds of his sneakers squeaking against the floor. He needs more, he needs to–
“MOLTEN MOUSSE COOKIE!” A voice booms from the hallway.
The pair jolt apart, Mousse stumbling backwards and hitting his head on the wall. The pair quiet down quickly, breathing rapidly.
Mousse recognizes it instantly. Dark Cacao Cookie.
“MOLTEN MOUSSE COOKIE! WHERE ARE YOU!” His voice could almost shake the walls. Berry Jam’s chest rises and falls at a pace that Mousse wasn’t sure was humanly possible. He looks wrecked.
And Mousse is mortified, because if he made Berry Jam look like
that
he can’t imagine what he looks like.
He squeezes his eyes shut and listens to Dark Cocoa's footsteps. They get closer to the closet and his heart rate skyrockets again.
He feels Berry Jam squeeze his hand, almost as if to say, “I’m going down with you.”
Suddenly the footsteps dissipate. He lets out a long breath, calming himself down. He looks at Berry Jam again.
Berry Jam smiles slightly. “You might wanna put that scarf back on.”
Mousse heats up, remembering what had happened. “Yeah, probably.” He says, flatly, although he’s still smiling.
The pair come out of the closet and make their way back through the castle and into the front room. Berry Jam lets go of his hand before they breach the outside.
The cold envelopes him, cooling him off. He spots Dark Cacao Cookie making his way towards him, and he braces himself.
“Molten Mousse Cookie! Where have you been!” He says sternly. Molten Mousse swallows, trying to think of something to say.
Berry Jam chuckles. “Don’t worry your majesty, he was just off duty for a bit.”
