Work Text

From my time on Earth, I’ve had enough of working day in and day out. How I wish there could be just one single day where I don’t have to work.I’ve dealt with living creatures all my life, but no one seems to realise that I actually don’t like socialising. It’s not just because I’m what they would call an introvert; it’s because I sincerely don’t want to see them. And, truth be told, I don’t think they want to see me either.Humans, however, are an interesting species. There’s something about them that sets them apart from all the others. Their emotions are colourful, each and every one capable of painting their own masterwork with the colours of their hearts. Some may not even realise how special they are, but I can see it. I’ve seen many exquisitely completed creations formed by the colours of their lives. It’s their colours that keep me from going completely mad with the monotony of my work.Over time, I’ve developed a personal hobby to pass the quieter moments. I journal my days in their colours. Each man and woman I encounter carries their own unique shades. Most who leave unwillingly bear dull shades of black, grey, or white. Occasionally, there are those with a touch of brightness, a flicker of liveliness, and those instances provide me with a small measure of comfort. Taking them away with me feels a bit less burdensome, just for that moment. And so, I write them down, capturing the evidence of their exisence on Earth in my very own book of colours.Yet, no matter how many souls I’ve guided over the centuries, there was a time when I became deeply fascinated by the lives of a particular group of men. These men, whom I encountered back in the 1940s, left an unforgettable mark on me. I will always remember them.I hope I won’t see them again anytime soon. Some I’m already well acquainted with, but the others? I genuinely wish from the bottom of my non-existed heart that they will not cross my path. At least not now. Not anytime soon. They were a remarkable group, each one unique in his own way. I could see through their stern expressions, the barriers they’d built to gate their emotions from the world. Behind those walls lives their creation of a universe just for themselves; worlds where they could escape the harsh realities of their time and imagine a semblance of peace.I’ve encountered people with more dazzling colours—individuals who left enormous impacts on the advancement of humanity and technology. But there was something in the eyes of these men that told me they were different from anyone I’d seen before.Their colours, if I’m honest, were quite basic. Yet, together, they painted an extraordinary masterpiece. So, sit down, grab a cup of tea, and let me share with you the stories of this very special group of men.
