Work Text
Thame didn’t expect much from the reunion. He had only come because his friends dragged him there, pulling him away from his endless to-do lists at work. He had convinced himself years ago that he would never attend a reunion but now that he’s there, he’s quite interested but partially because of the nostalgia. The second he walked into the ballroom, the dim light shining on the polished floor, the smell of freshly made food, people already taking a chance to dance on the dance floor with the loud music being played, he knew that this was indeed not a mistake and that he’s happy his friends took him here. His friends immediately took the floor and started to be social butterflies, except for Thame, who only had them back then but his eyes were scanning the room, hoping to find a familiar figure. His breathed hitched when the familiar figure took a step out of a circle of people, having the biggest smile on their face.“Po…” Thame couldn’t fully believe it yet. Yes he was indeed searching for him but he didn’t expect Po to really be here, even tho Po isn’t really the type of person to miss out on there kind of events.Po really hasn’t changed much, but something about him looked more self-assured, more confident, more radiant. His smile, a natural look on his face made Thame feel warm inside, catching himself falling for it all again. A feeling that he’d once pushed away as he knew that this feeling was just one-sided.As if sensing Thame’s gaze, Po looked up at him, their eyes locked and a heartbeat became one. Po couldn’t believe his eyes, his face lit up even more. He excused himself from the group of people he was talking to and made his way over to Thame.“Thame, what a surprise to see you here.” Po said with a bright, genuine smile.“Po, hey,” Thame said, voice calm and collected but his nerves were in knots as he can’t believe he’s right in this moment talking to Po. “Well my friends dragged me here but I’m actually very happy to be here now.”“Then I wanna thank them for bringing you here, I still remember your famous words of ‘a reunion? Pff that’s not really my thing so you won’t catch me there’ it was something like that right?” Po chuckled and Thame just looked at him in shock. Po really did remember every word he indeed said, but he doesn’t want to get his hopes up, this can mean nothing.“Something in that way yeah” Thame answered. It felt so strange to be standing so close to Po, it’s been years ever since they’ve last saw each other. Promised to contact each other but nothing happened, or Thame just tried to move on from something that still grew inside of him.“Well-““Yo Thame!!” Jun screamed at Thame, interrupting Po on what he was going to say. Thame looked backed at his friends and saw Jun gesture him to get over to them.“I’m so sorry, they…” Thame looked back into Po’s eyes and saw a change, but that didn’t kill Po’s spirit.“Don’t worry, I’ll be here the whole night” Po said and showed a supporting smile. Thame wanted to stay, he caught himself growing into the familiar space around Po again, but he turned around and got over to his friends.“What?” Thame asked and Jun immediately put an arm around Thame’s shoulders, catching all the eyes from the other three boys.“So you and Po huh? Since when?” Jun asked and Thame couldn’t believe his ears. That was seriously why they called him over. He put Jun’s arm away and sighed, trying to find the right words.“I know I’m not that social but yes, I was friends with Po”“Was… but I gotta say that you two have way more potential to be more” Dylan smirked and Thame just sighed deeply. Dylan isn’t wrong but it’s just the confrontation again. There’s a reason why Thame never wanted to see Po again, after years the feelings are still probably one-sided.The night had started as the last people came in, the crowd grew bigger and the laughter throughout the room put back so many memories for everyone. The alcohol smell grew stronger and the steam coming from their bodies was seen throughout the whole ballroom.Thame sat on a chair and saw how his drunk friends were trying to hold each other up while dancing. He isn’t really the person to get drunk so he stopped after getting three shots.Po on the other side hasn’t had anything, as drinking has never been really his thing. He did match with the others energy but slowly his energy got less, as the drunken people just got out of hand. In the corners of his eyes he saw Thame sitting all alone so he made his way towards him and sat down next to him.“And we meet again, are you drunk?” Po asked and Thame shook his head with a smile.“I stopped after my third shot and that was an hour ago so I’m all good now, you? Finally gave alcohol a chance?” Thame asked and looked into Po’s eyes, getting lost in them.“I did but I immediately gave up, I didn’t drink but my energy was still there so it looked like I was drunk but now I’m tired, gotta recharge you know” Po smiled and felt a butterfly in his stomach, the look Thame gave him felt so good, he missed that. They then fell into a conversation that both really needed, just heads empty. They caught up on old times, swapping stories, laughter flowing freely between them. They both had their friend groups but as they look back at what they’ve been through, they’re pretty surprised that no one knew about their friendship. As the night wore on, the crowd began to thin, and Thame and Po both said goodbye to their friends. They both found out that they've signed in to get a room in the hotel so they made their way to the guest rooms.“Room 317. You?” Thame asked, actually wishing that this moment wouldn’t end just like this.“206.” Po answered. They stood in front of the elevator, silence so loud that they both don’t know how to break it. Thame’s heart pounded in his chest, it wanted more, it needed more.“Do you wanna walk me to my room…?” Thame asked to break the silence and he could hear Po hum.“Of course” Po nodded, relieved, and followed Thame into the elevator. The ride up was quiet again, but it didn’t feel awkward, there was a slight tension building. Thame’s mind raced, was this really ending up how he wished it to be? Or was he just imagining it?The elevator doors slid open, and they stepped out into the hallway. Thame walked a few steps ahead of Po before stopping outside his door.“Here we are,” Thame said, his hand gripped onto the door handle, but he didn’t unlock it. Instead, he turned to face Po, looking into his eyes. “Po, I… tonight was…”Po smiled, small and knowing. “It was nice, wasn’t it?”Thame nodded. “It was. I just-”Before he could finish, Po took a step toward him, closing the space between them. Thame’s heart was about to explode, this closeness was indescribable.Po softly held onto Thame’s shoulders and whispered. “I don’t wanna loose you again”In that moment, something inside Thame went away. The years of pushing back his feelings, of telling himself that it was just one-sided, suddenly seemed foolish. Po leaned in and Thame took the last step to connect their lips, feeling the warmth rush through their bodies. There they were, finally kissing. It was soft, hesitant at first, both trying to see how it felt like crossing the line, a line that slowly vanished away. But when Po’s hand slipped around the back of Thame’s neck, pulling him closer, it deepened. Time seemed to stop, the world narrowing to just the two of them in the hallway.Only their kissing sounds could be heard but as they hear voices getting closer, they back away, breathless. Thame without any thoughts opened the door and wrapped an arm around Po’s waist to drag him inside. The door closed and Po couldn't process what happened, before he knew he was being pressed against the door and kissed deeply again.Something about being in a room, all alone, let all the worries go away for Thame. Years of questions unanswered, years of waiting for this moment, he can’t let it go, never again. The hallway fell silent again and they could hear it. They broke the kiss, foreheads still together, breathing heavily. Love filled into their eyes and the tension was quickly filled into the whole room.“You knew…” Thame breathed out.“You thought I didn’t know…? I felt it too but you were gone… unavailable… I thought you didn’t feel the same so I tried to move on…” Po confessed and Thame started to feel bad.“We’re both so stupid… we wasted all these years…” Thame pouted.“Yeah but we’re now here, I’m glad you came because I don’t know if I could’ve handled life longer without you…” Po said and Thame gave him a kiss, a kiss full of all the emotions that is being felt.“I’m glad I came too and now we’re together forever” Thame smiled and Po couldn’t wait any longer and pushed him onto bed, hovering over him. Lips connected again, a heart that grew to be as one and a long night full of long lost answers.
