You’re sitting on the couch, looking through your notes from the Healing 350 lecture, when keys turning in the lock signal that Lasko’s come home. Well, it was his apartment, really, but he’d given you a key a few months ago, and with the amount of time you spend there, it may as well be yours too.“...Babe? Are you still here?” He sounded exhausted.“In the living room!” You call back, flipping the page to a list of questions on the effectiveness of healing magic compared to how physically close the healer is to the subject. “How are you?” You ask as he comes into the room, stretching his arms above his head.“I’m…okay…”You glance up at him, watching as he refuses to meet your gaze, instead becoming very interested in the floor. Setting the notebook down on the coffee table, you slowly get up and walk over to him. “Lasko.” He’s still looking at the floor. You place a hand on his cheek, gently tilting his head up to look him in the eyes. “What’s wrong?”He sighs, his shoulders dropping slightly. “I… I know I work hard. I got good grades when I was a student here, but sometimes I still just feel like I don’t have the…authority to be helping anyone. This new student came in, and they kept making all of these references that I just- I mean, they just- they seemed surprised that a humanborn would be in any form of leadership position, you know?”“Oh, honey…” You stroke your thumb softly back and forth against his cheek, before pulling him into a hug. When you pull back, you lace your fingers together between you. “You helped me a while ago with this, remember? I didn’t know anything when I came here, and that… got taken advantage of. But you helped me, and you advocated for classes on the human world for the students who grew up in this one.”Lasko swallows. “I know, but- I wish I could’ve done more, and it doesn’t exactly make me some authority, and-”“Lasko. You are incredibly smart and hardworking, and if anyone I’ve met deserves to be an authority here and give advice to new students, it’s you. Humanborn or not, you have more than proven your ability.”By this point, Lasko’s face had turned a bright red. “Well, thank you… I’m sorry for being so- I don’t know, just- I’m sure it gets frustrating that I’m always so nervous, but I appreciate you saying that.”You rub circles on the backs of his hands, before trailing up his arms, smiling softly. “Lasko, I will tell you as many times as I need to that you being nervous isn’t frustrating or annoying. Now, while I wish you’d talk a little nicer about the man I love, I’m always gonna be here to support you when you’ve had a bad day. All you have to do is ask for what you need, sweetheart.”“What I need? Well, um. I think just spending time with you helps, you know, it might help make me less stressed…”He trails off, glancing towards the couch. You tug at his hand, sitting down and pulling him next to you. He brings his feet up and curls into your side, resting his head on your shoulder as you wrap an arm around him. You stroke his arm, pressing soft kisses to his face and head.He looks up at you, beautiful eyes wide and a soft smile on his face. “Thank you,” he whispers, before kissing you lightly.“Anytime, my love,” you whisper back.
