"People can have pet lizards?" Daniel Tiger looked at the book his mom had got from the library. "Big lizards?" Daniel asked, "Or stripy lizards? Or small fast lizards that are green or brown?""Anole lizards just like Nellie," his mom said, smiling. But she explained that because Nellie lived in their yard, outside, and it wouldn't be fair to keep her in a tank.She tickled behind Daniel's ears so he wiggled them just like he did when he started imagining. "Do you want to imagine Nellie is our pet lizard?"Daniel did, but he also wondered if maybe they could have a lizard that wasn't Nellie for a pet. He could build a pet lizard a house, or a nest, any home a lizard liked to live in. Maybe not a Ferris wheel!His mom reminded Daniel that pets are a big responsibility, and they already had the aquarium of pet fish. If they had a pet lizard, Daniel would need to help look after her, and be very gentle, and always wash his hands after touching her. They would talk about all that with dad, decide as a family if a pet lizard was right for them.
