Work Text
Reader knew that they were worthless, broken, a burden. Nothing that they did or said ever seemed to matter to anyone. Or, if it did, it was only ever a negative. They were always either too much or not enough to people. They never could seem to find that perfect medium that everyone else seemed to find without any issue, because their brain was bad and they were bad."Thank you for coming over" Lucas said timidly as they entered his room and awkwardly sat down on his bed. They'd been paired up with him for a science project and he'd invited them over to his house that evening. They'd assumed it was to work on the project, but this assumption would soon prove false. "Sorry, I just, uh, didn't want to be alone, since my mom is out of town and whatnot""Wait, I thought we were gonna work on the project""Oh, shoot, yeah, sorry" Lucas said, a nervousness about him. He was so reckless and chaotic at school- It was always a shock to the system when people actually started to have a conversation with him and realized how socially awkward and timid he really was. "I, uh, just wanted to hang out with you, if that's alright".........
What?
"What?" the Reader asked in disbelief. Lucas swallowed thickly."It's probably dumb" he shrugged. "I just- I just thought you're cool and I wanted to, like, hang out or whatever, without us having to worry about the project""Oh" the Reader breathed. Never in a million years did they think that someone would actually want to hang out with them, outside of school, just for the sake of it. And yet, here Lucas was, nervously telling them just that. "Right, no, yeah, of course" they nodded. Lucas seemed to loosen up a bit at this. "So, uh, what did you want to, like, do?""Well, I mean, we could just, uh, talk, or we could play a game or something if you would like. I have Mario Kart""I could kick your ass in Mario Kart" the Reader said, a rare smile creeping at the edge of their lips. Lucas chuckled at this."Is that a challenge?""Absolutely"
