You know Rudolph who guided and pulled Santa's sleighAnd who saved Christmas by lighting the wayBut there's more to tell...Rudolph saved the New Year as wellIt was a calm cool day in the tundra, not being too cold for it to be uncomfortable. Years had passed since the Battle of Misfits, and Rudolph was out in his motor sled taking care of business, driving through the snow. He had been planning to get firewood and fish for his family before taking his son, Rudolph Jr, out for some fun when something shocking would happen next. Rudolph stopped and parked the motor sled in front of the forest, completely oblivious to what would befall him next.“Alright, that should be enough”, says Rudolph a few minutes later, having collected enough wood and fish for the next few weeks. Then suddenly, the sky started getting cloudy, the clouds turning gray. “Huh? What’s going on?”, says Rudolph. “It’s not supposed to be stormy today–”.Then suddenly, a lightning bolt strikes Rudolph, creating a thunderous boom that echoes throughout the forest. However, Rudolph did not die. Instead, he now found himself shrunk down to the size of a child. The clouds dispersed as Rudolph regained consciousness, shocked to find his body reverted back to such a juvenile state.“WHAAAAA!?”, exclaims Rudolph, his voice now being higher. He started to panic, panting as he felt like he was about to start crying like how a little kid would. However, he quickly pulled himself together. Now was not the time to cry. He got back into his motor sled, driving back to his house to get help, albeit with slight difficulty. Some time later, Rudolph eventually reaches his house, stumbling out of the motor sled to avoid crashing it. He eventually makes his little body back into the house, surprised athow much bigger everything is. “Hey Rudolph, did you get the– WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU!?”, says Rudolphine shocked. “Why are you so small, dad?”, asks Rudolph Jr. “I don’t know”, says Rudolph, grabbing his wife’s arm. “Honey, i’m scared”. Rudolphine scoops up Rudolph into her arms, caressing her now shrunken down husband.“It’s ok, I know you are”, says Rudolphine. “Let’s go find Santa and see if he can change you back, okay?”. “Okay”, says Rudolph. “Does that mean I get to see Santa too!?”, saysRudolph Jr excitedly. “Yes, you can come too, but help mama unload the sled first”, says Rudolphine. “Ok”, says Rudolph Jr. Rudolphine and Rudolph Jr. then went outside to unload the sled.Rudolphine took the wood while Rudolph Jr. took the fish. It was clear that Rudolph Jr. was a good kid and not the bratty annoying kind with how obedient he was at such a young age. After they had finished, the family of 3 got into the motor sled, heading to Noel Town.It was the first time they had been to Noel Town in a while. The town had become more technologically advanced over the years, now housing computers and more advanced machinery. After some walking, they found all their old friends: Fireball, Nishi, Clarice, Racer, Prancer, and Comet. They were all either shocked or amused at Rudolph now being small again. The only ones to speak up were Rudolph’s two close friends: Fireball and Racer. “Rudolph, is that really you?”, asks Racer. “I was thinking Rudolphine had another kid for a second”.Rudolph then starts facepalming himself repeatedly out of frustration, the group starting to laugh. “Shh, shh, it’s okay dear”, says Rudolphine, grabbing his hands. “Flying high in the skyyyyy, he may be small but only in sizeeee”, sings Fireball mockingly. “DON’T YOU DARE QUOTE ASTRO BOY, YOU JERK!”, yells Rudolph. Prancer, being the oldest in the group, was able to sense the tension rising, deciding to step in and defuse it. “Alright, you lot, that’s enough teasing”, says Prancer. “Let’s go and see the big man inside”. Prancer then winks at Rudolph Jr after saying that last statement, making the young reindeer’s eyes sparkle with excitement. The reindeer then entered Santa’s chamber, the Father of Christmas still looking as jolly as always. “Oh, if it isn’t my wonderful Elect! What brings you–”, says Santa before beinginterrupted by Fireball. “Cut it, Kringle! We’re in a bit of a dilemma here!”, says Fireball. “Yeah, Rudolph got turned into a kid”, says Rudolphine. Santa’s eyes go wide in shock at this revelation. “It couldn’t be…could HE really be up to something?”, says Santa.“He? Who’s he?”, asks Rudolph. “I’m talking about Father Time, Rudolph”, says Santa. “Time…has a father?”, says Rudolph Jr confused, the rest of the group also being just asconfused. Santa notices the looks on the reindeer’s faces and decides to explain the situation better. “Alright, let me start from the beginning”, says Santa, sitting everyone down.“Father Time…he’s an ancient warlock, even older than me”, says Santa. “He not only controls time as the name suggests, but also, at the end of each year, he creates a BabyNew Year so that each New Year can come. While the baby does not actually replace Father Time and is more symbolic, the fact that this happened could imply that the Baby New Year this year might have turned evil”. The group is left shocked and even a little scared at this revelation. “An evil Baby New Year?”, says Prancer surprised. “And I thought it was gonna be Krampus again”, says Rudolph with a laugh. “Yes, the evil Baby New Year of legend”, says Santa. “His name is Baby Nyuma, and he must be stopped at all costs, otherwise it could be the end of the world as we know it”.The shock and fear in the room escalates even higher. Rudolph Jr’s nose starts to glow, his nose glowing when he gets nervous. “Hmm? Are you okay, sweetie?”, Rudolphine asks her son, who starts panting anxiously. Rudolphine’s motherly instincts kick in, snatching up her son in an instant to soothe him, dropping Rudolph. “Oh my, I didn’t mean to scare your little one”, says Santa. “Me and Clarice have a little one too”, says Racer. “His name is Chaser, and him and Rudolph Jr are friends at school”. “And…and…Oliver…”, says Rudolph Jr between breaths as Rudolphine rubs his back.“Yeah, I know you like Oliver, but Chaser too, right?”, says Rudolphine, using the topic to distract her anxious son. “At least…he’s better than Scratcher. He’s a meanie”, says Rudolph Jr, the group chuckling at the young reindeer’s statement. “Well don’t you think Father Time is an even bigger meanie?”, Rudolphine says with a chuckle. “I suppose so”, says Rudolph Jr. “Don’t worry, daddy will get him for you. Feeling better now?”, asks Rudolphine. Her son nods. Meanwhile, Rudolph stands in front of Santa, with Fireball and Racer by his side.“Well that’s why I prepared for if another situation like this happens”, says Rudolph, acknowledging Rudolphine’s statement. “Fireball, Racer…you remember how I taught youtwo to do it?”. Fireball and Racer nod. The three reindeer then take stances, the three of them transforming into their North Star forms. North Star Rudolph now had two golden-haired comrades: North Star Fireball and North Star Racer. Santa nodded at the three golden-haired reindeer, being pleased with what he saw as Rudolph, Fireball, and Racer powered down.“You’ve still got it, Rudolph”, says Rudolphine softly to herself. “Yes yes, but just in case, i’m sending the two heads of my secret police. Father Time and Baby Nyuma are no joke”, says Santa, pressing a “Call” button on his throne. A moment later, the two heads appear: a knight named Henry and a bishop named Sevran. Prancer and Comet greet the two with handshakes, the original Elect having known them and them being the only surviving members of that generation. The group of now 10 reindeer now looked at Santa, waiting for his last remarks before setting out on their mission, Rudolph standing in the front.“It’s up to you to stop Father Time and the revival of Baby Nyuma. Today’s December 27th, so with your nose so bright, you have 4 days to set things right”, says Santa. “I’ll do ya proud, Santa”, says Rudolph. With this statement, the group leaves the throne room, heading out on their mission. “So where to search first, Henry?”, asks Prancer. “We shall advance to Twinkletown henceforth”, says Henry in a theatrical voice, sounding like a stereotypical knight from the Middle Ages. “Twinkletown? Oliver’s parents are from there”, says Rudolph Jr. “Well you’re out of luck, kid, because you’re going home after this”, says Rudolph.Rudolph Jr saddens at the idea of having to go back home, but knows it’s for the best. The world had now become too dangerous for a young reindeer boy like him with Father Time on the loose. “By the way, Nishi, you’ve been real quiet. What have you been up to?”, asks Comet. “I’d say so of you and Clarice”, says Nishi with a laugh. “I’ve been practicing learning guitar actually. Mind if I play you all a song?”. Everyone nods. Then, while outside of Racer’s house on the outskirts of Noel Town, as Racer is dropping Clarice off, the group starts leaving Noel Town as Nishi begins playing his song for them, hoping that Clarice can hear as well:Turn back the yearsLive the simple life once againLive in times of remembranceTurn back the yearsTurn back the pageLife is like a line every dayLiving in this temporal planeTurn back the yearsJust remember the good times tooAnd the hardships from which you have grewTime is a loopGoing ‘round faster than you think it wouldThat is why everybody shouldTurn back the years…Turn back the years!
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rudolph and the others make their way to Twinkletown in no time at all, with the intent of finding Baby Nyuma swiftly. “Where should we look first?”, asks Prancer to Henry andSevran. “Anywhere in this town”, says Henry, now sounding like a normal person. “You mean you don’t always talk like that?”, says Prancer out of surprise. “Of course not!”, saysHenry with a laugh. “We’re not in THOSE times anymore. Now come on”. “We have a baby with curly blonde hair, blue eyes, and pointy ears to find”, says Sevran.Prancer nods in agreement with the knight and bishop, joining everyone else in the search. Even Rudolph Jr got to stop by Oliver’s house and say hello! Meanwhile, while Fireball and Comet are paired together, they get lost in the backwoods of the village, surrounded by spruce trees. “Um…Fireball, I think we’re lost”, says Comet. “Yeah, it’s kinda scary”, says Fireball, acknowledging the context of the situation. Meanwhile, a tall hooded figure is looming in the distance, moving towards Fireball and Comet. At his side is a soldier with a clock in his chest. The figure then reveals himself to Fireball and Comet, having the appearance of a pale old man with balding white hair, a long nose, and a creepy smile. There was only one thing they could even think to ask.“Wh- who are you?”, asks Fireball panickedly. “I…am Father Time”, says the figure. Fireball and Comet’s eyes go wide, with Comet covering Fireball’s mouth to keep him frompotentially screaming. “Excuse me, but…why are you here?”, asks Comet, her voice being fearful too, but not as much as Fireball’s was. “Because I have seen everything”, says Father Time. “I have come to gather energy to revive my creation. I need 3 ounces. Would you care to give me one?”. The soldier held up a suction device with a pointy tip.“Um…well…”, says Comet, afraid to answer. Meanwhile, Fireball, who gets tired of Comet covering his mouth, smacks her hand away before letting out an outburst. “NO, YOUCREEP!”, shouts Fireball. “Fireball…no…”, thinks Comet to herself, realizing what Fireball has done. “I wasn’t asking. Get her, General Ticker”, says Father Time. Then, in an instant, the soldier, now named General Ticker, dashes towards Comet before she can escape, stabbing her in the side with the device, puncturing her liver. Comet let out a blood-curdling screech that echoed throughout the forest as her life energy was sucked from her body before dropping to the ground lifeless. The first ounce of energy had been obtained, and the device now had blood on its tip.Fireball stared at Comet’s dead body in horror, feeling anxious tears well in his eyes, not wanting to die next. “Wait, please, not me next”, pleads Fireball. “Why should I spareyou?”, asks Father Time. “BECAUSE I’VE FELT THESE THINGS BEFORE!”, shouts Fireball hysterically, sobbing quietly while clutching his head. “I assumed such was the case”, says Father Time. “As I said, I have seen everything”. “Have you seen me? The other reindeer? Santa?”, asks Fireball. “In a word, yes”, says Father Time, prepared to reveal everything he knew.“Me and my creation have existed since the beginning of time. Your current incarnations of Santa and Krampus were born in 1875. The first red-nosed reindeer was officially recognized in 1899. The three red noses of this era, the ones you call Rudolfo, Rudolphine, and Rudolph were born in 1948, 1949, and 1950 respectively. Rudolphine and Rudolph were cast out in 1963 and 1964 respectively. And of course who can forget December 20th, 1965? The Battle of Misfits! Then the two that remain bore a child in 1971. But this year, 1975, is where I stop it! I will not allow this to continue!”.Fireball became absolutely dumbfounded at this revelation. The fact that this ages old warlock knew the entire existences of everyone he knew gave him an existential crisis. In the face of a foe like this, how were they supposed to win? To him, it now felt impossible. “Father Time…i’ve been bested”, says Fireball in defeat. “You are superior to me”. “Oh, so now you want to join me?”, says Father Time with a hint of surprise. He was not expecting this.Fireball got down on his knees, bowing before Father Time. “Not join, but HELP”, says Fireball. “As long as I can surpass Rudolph, i’m fine with whatever”. “Very well”, says Father Time, reaching a hand towards Fireball’s head and moving around his fingers to cast a spell. “Potorato Totontokaton!”. Father Time then took his leave, with General Ticker following suit. Fireball got up and left the forest as well, but with a different mental state than when he first entered. After the rest of the group was unsuccessful in finding any leads on the whereabouts of Baby Nyuma, they all regrouped outside the town again, preparing to head back. However, Rudolph noticed something different about Fireball. He now had dark rings around his eyes. “Hey, Fireball? Are you okay, buddy?”, asks Rudolph. Fireball scoffs. “I’m fine, but since when do you care?”. Rudolph was taken aback by Fireball’s cold response, with Rudolphine quickly intervening after giving Rudolph Jr to Prancer.“You don’t have to be rude, you know”, says Rudolphine, using her chest to add emphasis to her words. “Back off, bongo!”, says Fireball coldly. Rudolphine could not believewhat she just heard. Her calm patient demeanor crumbled in an instant, as she let out an outburst completely uncharacteristic of her. “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?”, yells Rudolphine at the top of her lungs, panting furiously. Rudolph grabs her shoulder, as if to tell her to let him handle it, everyone else giving the two of them some space. “Fireball, did something happen to you in those woods?”, asks Rudolph calmly.“So what if it did?”, says Fireball, glaring at Rudolph. “Just talk to me. I don’t know why you always keep your guard up all the time nowadays when you didn’t before”, says Rudolph. “You’re my good friend, not some jerk”. “Just shut up, Rudolph!”, shouts Fireball. “Fireball…you can’t just shrug this off”, says Rudolph. “The fact that you were able to tick off Rudolphine is concerning, and she is a VERY patient reindeer”. Fireball didn’t want to hear it anymore and tried to leave, but the others surrounded him, forcing him to talk to Rudolph.“Ok…i’ll tell you”, says Fireball, but in a slightly sassy fashion due to him being forced to do this. “I…I saw Father Time. He took Comet’s life with him, and…I couldn’t doanything to stop him. I just froze and thought about how weak I am. I wished that I was as strong as you, Rudolph, but now…I am thanks to my mind being his”. Everyone is shocked at the mention of Father Time and Comet’s death, watching Fireball’s eyes fill with tears, but then disturbed as Fireball’s tone becomes more sinister, absolutely bewildered that he would let Father Time take over his mind just so he could be stronger than Rudolph. “Fireball…why would you do such a thing?”, says Rudolph to express the others’ concern. “Giving Father Time your mind!? Are you crazy!?”.“What makes you so special?”, says Fireball. “Why do you have to be the chosen one just because you have a red nose? I already have blonde hair. All I need is a red nose. I should be the North Star, not you!”. “Fireball, calm down”, says Rudolph calmly. “So what if you have blonde hair and no red nose? It doesn’t make me any better than you. Just have some faith in me”. But Fireball didn’t want to hear it. He transforms into his North Star form and throws a punch at Rudolph, who dodges it. Rudolph transforms into his North Star form as well and pins Fireball to the ground, his patience wearing thin.Rudolph starts to whisper in Fireball’s ear with a slightly harsh tone. “I said i’m not putting up with it, so stop it. I love you, but I don’t need another Rudolfo situation”. Fireball whines at Rudolph being on top of him, beating on his chest to try to get him off. “I’m not backing up, Fireball. Just calm down, ok?”, says Rudolph. Fireball pants and sobs more whilst in Rudolph’s arms, powering down as Father Time’s magic wears off before finally giving up, the two friends hugging it out. “I’m here for you, Fireball”, says Rudolph. “I know you’ve been struggling, but you don’t have to hide anymore, ok?”. Fireball nods in response, Rudolph powering down as well. Then suddenly, Racer gets a message from the Nativity Stronghold on his phone. “Uh…Rudolph, Fireball…we need to go”, says Racer with concern. “The stronghold is in danger”. Rudolph’s eyes go wide at this as him and Fireball get off of the ground. “Rudolphine, take Junior home”, says Rudolph. Rudolphine nods as she leaves, holding her son protectively pressed against her chest. Similarly, Rudolph held Fireball in his arms, feeling concern not just for his friend, who still felt vulnerable, but also the condition of his father and Rudolph Jr’s grandfather. “Prancer, Henry, Sevran…hold back”, says Rudolph. “Let me, Fireball, Nishi, and Racer handle this”. The three reindeer nod, letting him and the others go. That afternoon had not seen much action, but as the sun began to set, the following night would surely prove to be much more climactic.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rudolph, Fireball, Nishi, and Racer reach the Nativity Stronghold, but when they get there, they are shocked by what they see. The castle walls had crumbled, smoke was coming out of the trenches, and fire and dead bodies were strewn about everywhere. Had they arrived too late? Rudolph’s eyes go wide in horror at the sight. “I hope dad is okay”, he thought.Only a handful of troops remained fighting to defend what was left as a huge bird resembling a vulture swooped over the ruins, slashing at them with its talons. One of the troops runs away from the scene towards the four stunned reindeer. “Mr. Rudolph, please help us”, says the panicked soldier. “Is my dad still here?”, asks Rudolph. “Yes, he is, sir”, says the soldier. Rudolph nods before following the soldier into the ruins, gesturing for the others to follow. Rudolph gives Racer a nod before looking over at Fireball and Nishi.“Fireball…are you in a better mood now? We might need you to help fight that bird thing”, says Rudolph. Fireball then tries to go North Star, but can’t concentrate due to his emotional distress, Rudolph letting out a sigh. “Nishi, watch Fireball for me”, says Rudolph. “Me and Racer will take care of this”. “Ok”, says Nishi. He holds Fireball in his arms, giving him a comforting rub on his back. He wasn’t scared of much at all, so he was a perfect source of comfort for Fireball amongst the chaos.Meanwhile, after reaching the top of the castle wall, Rudolph and Racer find Rudolph’s dad. “Dad!”, exclaims Rudolph, giving him a hug. “I’m so glad you’re okay. What happened to the base? Where did this bird thing come from?”.
“I wish I knew”, says Rudolph’s dad, smirking at his son’s shrunken down state. He knew he was an adult now, but he couldn’t help but admire seeing what his son used to look like after so long. To him, he was still his “little Rudie”. Meanwhile, the vulture starts looming over the three reindeer, emanating a menacing aura.Rudolph senses the vulture’s aura, his demeanor changing. “HEY! WHO ARE YOU!?”, yells Rudolph at the vulture, emitting a menacing aura of his own, as if to challenge thevulture. “I am Aeon the Terrible, and I have come to take what’s mine”, says the vulture with a cackle. “You can’t beat Father Time”. “That’s not for you to decide”, says Racer. “Destiny doesn’t care, you puny mortal”, says Aeon. Rudolph grabs Racer’s shoulder, nodding at him intently. Racer nods back, the two reindeer going into their North Star forms. The two golden-haired reindeers try to fight Aeon in the air, but the bird is simply too big, its talons alone being almost as big as their entire bodies.Aeon laughs at Rudolph and Racer’s futile attempts to harm him and swats them away with one of his wings each, forcing them out of their transformed states. Rudolph’s dad was now completely isolated, and Aeon was about to go in for the kill. “Aeon, no!”, says Racer. “PLEASE DON’T HURT MY DADDY!”, shouts Rudolph with a whiny refrain. But it was all to no avail. Aeon slashes Rudolph’s dad in the side of his torso, scarring his liver. He almost collapses in an instant as Aeon flies away, satisfied with the damage he has done.Rudolph and Racer rush to Rudolph’s dad’s side in an instant, escorting him out of the ruins and laying him down on the ground as a medic tries to stop the bleeding, Nishi andFireball at their side. “Dad, are you gonna be okay?”, says Rudolph panicked. “I feel…so weak”, says Rudolph’s dad. His heart was starting to beat slower and slower. Rudolph felt his father’s pulse and started panicking even more, giving his father chest compressions in an attempt to keep his dad’s heart going, disrupting the medic’s work. “Rudolph, no!”, says the medic. “Please…I need you…”, says Rudolph as he continues to beat on his dad’s chest, whining and sobbing uncontrollably. He couldn’t handle the truth that his father was going to die.“Rudolph…it’s no use”, says Rudolph’s dad. “My body won’t move anymore. I’m going to join your mother soon, but…just know that both of us will always be with you, ok?Same thing with your friends”. Rudolph gives up on his compressions and nods, pressing his head to his father’s chest in grief, having given up. He didn’t want his father to go, so all he could do now was be there to hear his heart take its last beats and his lungs draw their last breaths.Everyone started tearing up a little bit at how innocently Rudolph embraced his father, almost embodying the young child he was so many years ago aside from physically. “I love you, dad”, says Rudolph. “I…love…you…Rudolph”, says his dad. His heart took its last beats and his last breath left his body, and Rudolph was there to take it all in. The reality had set in. Rudolph’s dad was dead.Rudolph became speechless the moment he heard his father’s heart stop as he got up. His mind thought back to how Rudolfo and his mother both died, and now his dad had also bitten the dust. He felt that he had lost everything possible for a person to lose, and the only thing Death could take away from him now was his own life. But no, he couldn’t accept it. He couldn’t live with the fact that he was now forever separated from the last family member he had. Rudolph started panting as his sobbing stopped, his mind becoming unstable and his breathing becoming shallow. He clutched his head in pain at his mental anguish before seeing a flintlock pistol in the snow, and to everyone’s surprise, he grabbed it in an instant, putting the barrel in his mouth.Everyone’s eyes went wide at Rudolph’s impulsive action, with Racer immediately dashing to his side, grabbing his hands. “Rudolph, no! Don’t do it!”, shouts Racer with a squeak, almost sounding like a girl. “This isn’t what your father would want!”. Rudolph makes muffled whines and cries, panting nervously at the thought of ending himself right here. “Rudolph, take the gun out of your mouth”, says Racer softly but firmly. But Rudolph doesn’t listen. He pulls the trigger, but the gun doesn’t go off. It simply makes a click, the gun having been empty the entire time.Rudolph stared in disbelief, with Racer finally taking the gun and tossing it far away to everyone’s relief. However, to Rudolph, Death had mocked his futile attempt, and now it was laughing in his face. Rudolph started grunting furiously and pounded the cold ground with his fists as if he was mad at the Earth itself, before Racer tackled him to the ground, getting on top of him and pinning down his fists. “Stop it, Rudolph!”, says Racer. “NOOOOO! NOOOOOO!”, shreiks Rudolph. He screamed and cried as loud as his little body would allow, straining his vocal cords. Eventually, he calmed down from his breakdown with Racer’s grounding, and along with it he learned a harsh truth: when you lose someone you love, you can’t always join them right away.“Rudolph, why would you do that?”, asks Racer, holding him in his arms. “You still have me, Fireball, and Rudolphine”. “Death is chasing me and i’m scared”, says Rudolph with asniffle. Racer nods in understanding and holds Rudolph protectively, looking down at him intently. “I won’t let Death take you from us”, says Racer with a hint of pride. “None of us will”. In that moment, on that uncaring cold winter night, Racer was like Rudolph’s blonde-haired guardian angel, determined to protect him from anything that came his way. This is why Rudolph trusted him. Alongside Fireball, Racer was one of the two wings upon which Rudolph was able to fly.Racer slightly releases Rudolph from his protective embrace, his grip and comforting press not being as tight anymore. Everyone else surrounded them and all gave Rudolphthe biggest hug he ever received in his life. “You guys are amazing”, he thought, Racer wiping a tear from his eyes as he caressed his face. “I…”, says Rudolph. “What is it, Rudolph?”, asks Racer, holding up Rudolph’s chin. “You can tell me anything. All of us, really”.“I don’t know what to do”, says Rudolph. “We have to relocate Rudolfo, Cornelius, and Hermes’ graves and add both my parents to it. Plus, Junior has school tomorrow. How am I supposed to explain to him what happened to his grandpa?”. “I’m sure we’ll figure something out”, says Racer. “Just leave it to us, okay?”. “Ok”, says Rudolph. It was now all quiet out where the stronghold once stood. The remaining soldiers started packing up what little supplies remained from the destruction. Racer, Fireball, and Nishi continued to hold Rudolph protectively, knowing that it would take time for him to recover from something like this, but that they didn't have much time left to save the world, as December 27th came to a close. The Nativity Stronghold had fallen, and although it was no more, the union that was formed in it remained strong.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The day is December 28th. Rudolph Jr is sleeping in his bed when his alarm clock goes off. It’s 7 AM. He gets up and makes his bed after turning off the alarm with a groan. Hebrushes his hair and brushes his teeth before going downstairs to see his mother waiting for him, sipping a cup of tea. “Morning, Junior”, says Rudolphine. “Morning, mom”, says Rudolph Jr sleepily, rubbing his eyes.“Did you sleep well?”, asks Rudolphine. “You still look a little tired. Reindeer training requires good sleep, you know”. “Yeah, but why do we have to do it so early?”, asks Rudolph Jr with a yawn. “Because…this time of day is prime time to train before everyone else wakes up”, says Rudolphine. Rudolph Jr nods, eating an apple at the table, trying not to drift off. “I can always hold you if you’re still feeling groggy, sweetie”, says Rudolphine with a giggle, embracing her son and patting his head while resting his head on her chest, finding the embrace adorable. She always enjoyed having these small interactions with him early in the morning before sending him off. Then, at about 7:40, Rudolph Jr wrapped his scarf around his neck after finishing eating the apple, Rudolphine rubbing his back before getting ready to send him off on his way. “Ready?”, says Rudolphine. “Mhmm”, says Rudolph Jr with a nod. “I remember when it used to take ages to get you out of the house”, says Rudolphine with a laugh. “Right…”, says Rudolph Jr with a smug look. “Oh, don’t be like that!”, says Rudolphine with a laugh. “Also, I do need to tell you this: Racer’s gonna be picking you up from your training today”.“Really? Why?”, asks Rudolph Jr. “Your father is busy with some stuff. You’ll see when you come back”, says Rudolphine. “Now go on now. You don’t wanna be late”. Rudolph Jr nods, heading out the door into the snow. “I love you”, says Rudolphine softly. She was happy now, but wasn’t sure how her son would react later on to the most recent developments. Some time later, Rudolph Jr made his way to Reindeer Academy.Rudolph Jr stood outside the school with the other reindeers. After some looking, he finds his friends, Oliver and Chaser. Rudolph Jr, Oliver, and Chaser do their secret handshake together, the three friends being quite close since they were small. Meanwhile, a reindeer with mangy fur approaches the trio. It was Scratcher. “What’s up, Red Nose?”, says Scratcher mockingly. “Lay off, Scratcher. It’s too early for this”, says Chaser.“You think you’re so high and mighty just because your father is famous?”, says Scratcher, this time a bit more aggressive. “Man, screw you, i’ll see you in class”, says Rudolph Jr with a scoff, making Oliver and Chaser chuckle. The church bells atop the school finally began to ring as the clock hit 8 AM. The doors opened as the crowd of reindeer flooded into the building, heading to their respective classrooms as the day began.Rudolph Jr, Oliver, and Chaser made their way to their class as Scratcher followed behind, rolling his eyes. As they enter the room, they are greeted by their teacher, Apollo. Apollo (real name Alex Kristopherson) was quite possibly one of the best teachers in the school, having gone to Clapham College in the UK to get his degree in teaching. The four reindeer sat down at their desks, joining their fellow classmates: Dragon, Angel, and Apple Fritz. Dragon was the oldest in the group behind Scratcher, and Apple Fritz was the youngest and most shy of the bunch. Meanwhile Angel was the only girl in the class, and Rudolph Jr had a thing for her because she was not only nice, but looked absolutely stunning to him. Apollo got up from his teacher’s desk at the front of the room to greet the class.“Good day, all”, says Apollo, his voice having a notable British accent. “Let’s put some good work in today, alright?”. The class agreed with Apollo’s enthusiasm with a few claps, but nothing too bombastic when the intercom began to play a message. “All rise for the national anthem of the Republic of the North Pole”, says the intercom. All of the reindeer got up from their desks in response. “Would anyone like to sing the anthem for us?”, asks Apollo. “I’ll do it”, says Angel cheerfully, coming to the front of the classroom.Apollo gives Angel a microphone as she looks at the rest of the class with a smile. She gives the microphone a few taps to test it while Apollo explains the significance of the anthem. “To anyone who’s not initiated with it yet, this anthem, ‘Ode to the Frozen Crown’, was first composed by the original inhabitants of the North Pole when they first came to this land, celebrating their newfound freedom from the Danish monarchy”, says Apollo. “Now take it away, Angel!”. A sweat drop falls from Angel’s white fur. She strokes her long blonde hair back before taking a few deep breaths, preparing to sing. “You got this, Angel!”, says Chaser.Angel smirks at Chaser’s comment before holding up the microphone to her mouth, beginning to sing the anthem in a perfect soprano voice:Hail to the frozen crownBrilliant and sacred crownKeep our souls freeBoundaries and borders roughNo chains dividing usEver guarding AeternatusIs the frozen crown! The room is left stunned by Angel’s performance and erupts into applause as Angel bows before taking her seat. Other classrooms around them also began to applaud at their own performances. “Oliver, isn’t she beautiful?”, says Rudolph Jr. “Yeah, we all know you have a crush on her”, says Oliver. “What!? Noooo”, says Rudolph Jr, blushing nervously. But he couldn’t deny it: everything about Angel was simply breathtaking to him.A little bit later, the class heads to the gym to start their training for the day. Whilst taking a break, Rudolph Jr and Angel run into each other. “Oh hey, Rudolph”, chirps Angel.“Did you enjoy it when I sang earlier? I noticed you couldn’t take your eyes off of me”. “Oh uh…yeah, it was great”, says Rudolph Jr flustered. “I hope it wasn’t too much for you”, says Angel with a giggle before hugging Rudolph Jr and waving goodbye to him. Rudolph Jr was now blushing like a tomato at being hugged by the girl he likes. Everything about that interaction – her looks, her demeanor, even the pink hoodie she chose to wear that day – all of it was like a dream.Oliver and Chaser start snickering at Rudolph Jr’s flustered look as the three boys embraced. “Stop it, you guys”, says Rudolph Jr. Then suddenly, Scratcher comes over, looking upset. “Hey, what’s up with you and Angel, man?”, says Scratcher. “You’re just jealous”, says Chaser. “At least he’s not an Apple Fritz”, says Scratcher coldly. Apple Fritz hears this and starts tearing up, running away to the bathroom crying, with Angel following after him.Apollo watched the tension building with a shocked expression as Dragon nods at him. “I got this, teach”, says Dragon. Apollo nods back at Dragon. “All right, break it up”,says Apollo. “Whatever, he’s a loser”, says Scratcher coldly, shoving Rudolph Jr. “DON’T SHOVE ME, YOU JERK!”, yells Rudolph Jr. Oliver and Chaser immediately begin to hold their friend back as he grunts angrily before Dragon gets in between Scratcher and Rudolph Jr, his tall figure imposing.“Back off, Scratcher”, says Dragon. “Ugh, damn you, Dragon! Why are you defending a pipsqueak?”, says Scratcher, Rudolph Jr getting even angrier. “I SAID BACK OFF”, yellsDragon. “PISS OFF”, yells back Scratcher. In response to this, Dragon shoves Scratcher when Rudolph Jr breaks free from his friends’ grip and he starts beating Scratcher up while shrieking in his face, Dragon’s eyes going wide at Rudolph Jr’s rampage, the two reindeer wrangling each others’ antlers. Apollo is completely shocked and immediately runs to break up the fight. “HEY! HEY!”, shouts Apollo.Dragon grabs Rudolph Jr as Apollo grabs Scratcher, separating the two. “Scratcher, how many times have I told you to stop bullying people?”, says Apollo to Scratcher. “You’regonna get kicked out if they hear about this”. “YOU WANNA SHOVE ME!? I’LL SHOVE YOU!”, yells Rudolph Jr. “Hey hey, calm down”, says Dragon. “Whatever, you’re a red-nosedfreak!”, shouts Scratcher. In response to this, Dragon storms up to Scratcher and smacks him across the gym, leaving everyone shocked, including Angel and Apple Fritz outside the bathroom. Scratcher collapses onto the floor, knocked out cold.Apollo had reached his breaking point. “Dragon, I- that’s it. Both of you go to the principal’s office. I’ll take care of Scratcher”, says Apollo calmly, pointing to the door. He lookslike he’s trying so hard not to lose his cool. Dragon’s eyes go wide, knowing not to test Apollo any further. He leaves with Rudolph Jr, leaving behind a still shocked Oliver, Chaser, Angel, and Apple Fritz. As Rudolph Jr and Dragon are walking to the principal’s office, Dragon pets Rudolph Jr on the head. “You need to learn to control your temper, little buddy”, says Dragon calmly.“You’re the one that smacked him”, retorts Rudolph Jr. “Hey hey, calm down, bud”, says Dragon. “I was just trying to help–”. Then suddenly, Rudolph Jr does something he would come to instantly regret. He beats on Dragon’s chest with a single fist. Before Rudolph Jr could even think, within less than a second’s notice, Dragon immediately grabs Rudolph Jr’s shoulders and slams his body into the lockers with all the forcein his body, pinning him to the wall with extreme firmness. The grip on Rudolph Jr’s shoulders was so tight it hurt as Dragon grunted loudly with the eyes of a feral beast until suddenly, he calms down as quickly as the rage came and unpins Rudolph Jr. Rudolph Jr is shaking violently, scared that he was about to die as the two reindeer keep walking. “WHAT THE HELL!? What’s wrong with you, man!?”, shouts Rudolph Jr hysterically. “Don’t shove my chest, you puny little reindeer”, says Dragon sternly. “Control your temper and watch your mouth”. No other words were exchanged as the two reached the principal’s office.Rudolph Jr and Dragon sit down in the principal’s office, the sign on the desk reading “E.W Flanders”. The chair turns around to reveal a huge reindeer. It was the principal of Reindeer Academy himself: Erik Wallace Flanders, otherwise known as “Big Wallace”. He was simply the biggest reindeer in terms of stature, and he had a commanding presence in every room he entered. Rudolph Jr started shaking nervously at seeing such a humongous reindeer. “Don’t be scared, he looks menacing but he’s actually a gentle giant”, whispers Dragon in Rudolph Jr’s ear. Rudolph Jr nods as Wallace prepares to speak.“What brings you two to my office?”, says Wallace, his voice being very deep. “Oh nothing, principal Wallace, just Rudolph, sir”, says Dragon. “Ah yes, Rudolph”, says Wallace. “I presume it’s Scratcher again?”. “Yes, it was, sir”, says Rudolph Jr, still looking scared of the barrel-sized reindeer.“I’ve gotten so many reports of him and his antics, and now you are the latest of his victims”, says Wallace. “Tell me, what did he do this time?”. “He kept bothering me, but then he shoved my chest and I got really angry”, says Rudolph Jr. “Yeah, I would know”, says Dragon, glaring at him about earlier. “No no no”, says Rudolph Jr nervously, scared of having two big presences looming over him. “Now, now”, says Wallace, giving Dragon a pat on the shoulder. “Let me tell you this, Rudolph. For us reindeer, when you beat or shove another’s chest, it is perceived as a challenge. So take with that what you will”.“Um…Mr. Wallace, sir…what would happen if someone beat on yours?”, asked Rudolph Jr nervously. “Someone did and they didn’t live to tell the tale”, whispers Dragon in Rudolph Jr’s ear. “Oh, don’t scare him with those old stories”, says Wallace with a laugh. “Although I must say, have you never been here before, Rudolph? You seem awfully frightened of me”. “I guess not”, says Rudolph Jr. “Well don’t worry, this big old buck’s got your back, alright?”, whispers Wallace, petting Rudolph Jr’s head. “Alright, sir”, says Rudolph Jr.“Also…you don’t need to worry about Scratcher anymore either. I heard what he did from Apollo after that rascal kept defying and i’m putting my hoof down”, says Wallace proudly. “Scratcher will be gone for good! Red nose discrimination belongs in the past!”. Rudolph Jr breathed a sigh of relief at this statement, Dragon patting Rudolph Jr on the back. “Other than that, you two are free to go”, says Wallace. “I would reprimand you, but you two stood up for the right thing”. “Ok, goodbye principal Wallace”, says Rudolph Jr, leaving with Dragon. Wallace nods before speaking softly. “Goodbye, Rudolph”.After Rudolph and Dragon leave, they go to the cafeteria, eating their lunch together. They spot the others nearby, the group being reunited again. “What happened, you two?”, says Chaser. “Did you really see how big principal Wallace was?”, says Angel. “Yes, he was huge”, says Rudolph Jr. “I bet you were scared”, says Oliver with a laugh. “I was, now shut up!”, says Rudolph Jr, embarrassed.“I’m proud you were able to hold your own, even if it was just a little bit”, says Dragon to Rudolph Jr. “Apple Fritz is too scared to talk to him without a teacher by his side”. “BigWallace is scary”, says Apple Fritz cutely. “Don’t worry, Fritz. I was scared the first time too”, says Angel with empathy. Then suddenly, lightning flashes outside the school, thunder booming loudly over the entire town. A teacher runs in from the gym, hysterically shouting in between panicked breaths. “RUN! THE VULTURE! A VULTURE IS COMING! AEON THE TERRIBLE!”.The entire cafeteria erupts into panic, reindeer screaming and running everywhere. “WHAT!?”, says Dragon. “What’s going on!?”, says Rudolph Jr. “Who’s Aeon the Terrible?”, saysChaser. “Angel, i’m scared”, says Apple Fritz, sobbing nervously. “It’s ok, Fritz. We won’t let the vulture get you”, says Angel softly. Meanwhile, Apollo enters the cafeteria, reuniting with his students.“There you guys are! We need to get out of here!”, says Apollo. “Not until I give this Aeon guy a piece of my mind”, says Rudolph Jr, heading towards the gym. “Wh-”, says Dragon, grunting angrily at Rudolph Jr’s daring attitude. “Don’t go alone, Rudolph. I’m coming with you”, says Oliver. “Me too”, says Angel. Rudolph Jr nods as the three of them head to the gym. “Oh my God”, says Apollo, facepalming.Rudolph Jr, Oliver, and Angel then enter the gym again, seeing the enormous vulture waiting for them. “Well, well, well…if it isn’t the son of Rudolph”, says Aeon. “LEAVE MYSCHOOL, YOU THUG!”, shouts Rudolph Jr. “Not unless you come with me”, says Aeon. “No! You’re not taking my friend! Take me instead”, says Oliver.“Ollie, no!”, says Rudolph Jr, hugging Oliver protectively. “Rudolph…i’ll come back for you, no matter what”, says Oliver. “Promise”, says Rudolph Jr. The two reindeer then do their secret handshake one more time before Oliver starts pelting soccer balls from across the gym at Aeon. “Ow, ow, ow!”, says Aeon. “That’s it, take this!”. Then suddenly, Aeon lunges forward at Oliver, spreading his wings. Oliver tries to get out of the vulture’s wide wingspan, but is not fast enough, getting slashed across the chest and arm by Aeon’s talons.“OLIVER”, shouts Rudolph Jr, running to his friend as he collapses to the ground unconscious. “No, not you…”. After he says that, Rudolph Jr starts to internalize, the wrath inside starting to boil over. The thunderstorm that was passing through that afternoon continued, its gray skies and flashy lightning indifferent, the church bells atop the school ringing softly. Rudolph Jr starts shaking and panting intensely, tears flowing from his eyes onto his injured friend. An aura that shines like the moonlight began to flow around Rudolph Jr’s body before letting out a loud cry. His cry reached the heavens themselves, and the sun began to part the clouds, a few of its rays shining down on him as he continued to cry, his hair flowing in the wind. He then ended his cry, letting out a guttural groan of despair that would frighten the devil himself, creating an air of silence in the room.Angel is left absolutely shaken by Rudolph Jr’s outburst, being too scared to speak. “Did I upset you?”, says Aeon mockingly with a laugh. “Rudolph…are you okay?”, says Angelwith concern. “Angel, give me that soccer ball”, says Rudolph Jr bluntly. “Right”, says Angel, tossing it over. Rudolph Jr glares at Aeon, a glimmer of vengeance in his eyes. “I’ll never let you hurt my friends again. NEVER!”.The still glowing reindeer then started running towards Aeon, jumping up into the air with a twirl, grunting angrily as he channeled his inner wrath into the soccer ball before throwing it at Aeon with all the might his little body could muster, screaming louder than necessary, but he didn’t care. All he cared about was making Aeon pay. The soccer ball then hits Aeon in the beak so hard, it bursts upon impact, engulfing his face in a big explosion. Rudolph Jr lands on the ground again, with Angel tearing up at how strong his love for his friend truly is.After the smoke clears, the aura from around Rudolph Jr disappears, Aeon getting very upset at his attack, looking like he wants to start crying. “SCREW THIS! I’M LEAVING!”, shouts Aeon before flying away angrily. Rudolph Jr then falls to his knees, clutching his upset stomach, getting really nervous as he starts panting anxiously. Angel hears the pants and immediately rushes to Rudolph Jr’s side. “Hey, what’s wrong?”, says Angel. “I think i’m gonna be sick”, says Rudolph Jr. “I don’t wanna throw up. I’m scared”.“Huh!?”, says Angel with a gasp. “I didn’t know you were scared of puking”. “Angel, i’m scared”, says Rudolph Jr with a groan. “It’s ok, your body is just too excited right now. Just relax, ok?”, says Angel. She rubs Rudolph Jr’s back. Eventually, his nausea eases, Rudolph Jr hugging Angel to thank her for the comfort, the two of them carrying Oliver and leaving the gym.“Oh my God, Oliver!”, exclaims Apollo, taking Oliver. “Look at what your actions caused, Rudolph Jr!”. “Lay off of him! He saved the school!”, shouts Angel defensively, surprisingeveryone. “Well it’s not storming anymore, so I think she has a point”, says Dragon. “Alright, i’ll let it go…this time”, says Apollo. “It was amazing!”, says Angel. “He started glowing and there was this big explosion!”.“Wh- an explosion? Aura?”, says Apollo, shocked. “You mean he knows how to use…magic?”. “Magic? I’m not a magician”, says Rudolph Jr confused, tilting his head. “You still might be magical, Rudolph”, says Apollo softly. “There’s so much I can tell you about magic. Magic circles, magic energy, wandmaking…”. Apollo speaks with growing excitement in his voice. “Uh…yeah, sure, maybe later”, says Rudolph Jr.“Yeah, it WILL have to be later”, says Apollo. “I was just notified by your father that Aeon’s attack on our school was part of the ongoing “Baby Nyuma” incident, so training has been put on hiatus indefinitely until its resolution”. Rudolph Jr’s classmates are left shocked by this revelation. “Baby Nyuma?”.“Yeah, it’s a thing that’s on the loose”, says Rudolph Jr. “Why didn’t you tell us? We could help your father beat him”, says Dragon. “You’ll have to ask my dad about that one”, says Rudolph Jr. “Rudolph, my dad’s here to pick us up”, says Chaser.“Alright, Chaser”, says Rudolph Jr. “Take care, Dragon”. “You too, Rudolph”, says Dragon. The two reindeer bump fists before parting ways, with Rudolph Jr and Chaser getting inRacer’s motor sled as he drives back to Rudolph and Rudolphine’s house. “So how was school for you two?”, asks Racer. “Everything okay?”. Rudolph Jr and Chaser look at eachother before responding.“It was alright, but kinda scary, dad”, says Chaser. “Rudolph Jr got into a fight with the school bully today and he had to go to the principal’s office”. “What!? Tell me more”, saysRacer with a laugh. “It was me and this other reindeer named Dragon that went to the office. He’s kinda scary”, says Rudolph Jr. “We met the principal and he was the biggest reindeer either of us had ever seen. Then Aeon attacked and I…I saved the school”. “Wow, wait until your father hears about this one!”, says Racer, laughing even more. They stop just outside of Rudolph and Rudolphine’s house before getting out of the motor sled.“Mr. Racer, is there any way my friends can help beat Baby Nyuma?”, asks Rudolph Jr. “I’ll have to ask your father”, says Racer. “Anyway, let’s go”. Racer and the two boys are then reunited with Rudolph, Rudolphine, and the others, Rudolph Jr hugging his mother after a long day. Then, on the next day, December 29th, funeral bells are tolled as the graveyard from the former Nativity Stronghold is interred outside Rudolph and Rudolphine’s house.Rudolph Jr watches as 5 graves are installed. He already knew the first 2 were for his father’s old friends, Cornelius and Hermes, but was confused about the other 3. “Mom, why are there FIVE graves?”, asks Rudolph Jr. “Well, you remember when we told you about your father’s old friend Rudolfo? His grave is one of them”, says Rudolphine. “Another one is for your grandmother. Your father loved his mother very much”. “Oh, well…then what’s the last grave?”, asks Rudolph Jr, tilting his head. Rudolphine’s heart breaks at her son’s question.“Junior…i’m sorry to tell you the hard truth, but the last grave is for your grandfather. He’s dead”, says Rudolphine. “WHAT!?”, shouts Rudolph Jr, his eyes tearing up. “Yes, he was killed by Aeon the Terrible. I’m sorry, sweetie”. Rudolph Jr ran to his father’s room, unable to believe what his mother just said. “Dad, say it ain’t so!”, shouts Rudolph Jr. “Is mom telling the truth? Did grandpa die?”. Rudolph starts hugging his son, his body shaking.“Yes, Junior. My dad and your grandpa is dead”, says Rudolph. “And I wish that I could have saved him…”. Rudolph hugs Rudolph Jr, the father and son crying together over theloss. “By the way, Junior…I heard about your little…adventure at school yesterday”, says Rudolph with a sniffle. “You did?”, says Rudolph Jr. “Yeah, Racer told me”, says Rudolph. “I’m so glad you gave Aeon a piece of your mind for me”.Rudolph Jr started to tear up again, feeling a sense of pride at his father’s words. “As for your friends, we found a way to arrange taking you, Chaser, and this Dragon kid you told us about”, says Rudolph. “We’re heading to the Archipelago of Time tomorrow. We only have 1 day left before New Year’s Eve to stop Baby Nyuma, so get some rest, ok?”. “Ok dad”, says Rudolph Jr. He went to bed that night without a word. Then, the next day, December 30th, a ship with the remaining stronghold troops and supplies (plus some extra supplied by Santa) was sitting docked at the port of Noel Townas its crew arrived: Rudolph, Rudolphine, Fireball, Nishi, Racer, Clarice, Prancer, Henry, Sevran, Rudolph Jr, Chaser, and Dragon. The voyage to the Archipelago of Time had begun, and along with it the final effort to stop Father Time and Baby Nyuma once and for all, for no one knows what may happen when the bell tolls.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rudolph and the others begin boarding the ship, taking with them only essential supplies. Then, whilst loading their things onto the ship, Rudolph Jr turns around to see his teacher, principal, and classmates wishing him, Dragon, and Chaser off. Rudolph Jr waves back with a nod as Dragon grabs his shoulder. “Come on, Junior, let’s not leave the others waiting”, says Dragon with a smirk. Chaser also appears and waves goodbye too as the three young reindeers join the rest of the crew inside.“Ah, there you are, son”, says Rudolph. “We were just getting ready to go. Wanna meet the captain?”. “Sure”, says Rudolph Jr. “Where is he?”, asks Chaser. Rudolph then leads Rudolph Jr and Chaser to the captain’s deck, where they come face to face with the captain of the ship himself: Captain Randolph.“Why hello, Rudolph”, says Randolph. “Looks like you and your friends have quite a few young ones now”. “Yeah, they’re the next generation”, says Rudolph. “We needed their
help to help us stop Father Time and Baby Nyuma”. “I understand. Give one of that old coot’s minions a beating for me, would ya?”, says Randolph with a laugh, winking at
Rudolph Jr. “I’ll get ‘em good, sir!”, says Rudolph Jr with a nod and a smile. Chaser hugs Rudolph Jr softly, giving the old reindeer captain delight as they leave his deck with Rudolph as he starts up the ship, headed for the Archipelago of Time.
As the ship leaves Noel Town’s port and heads towards the archipelago, they are stopped by a giant whale with a clock on its back. “Dad? Why is there a whale in the way?”, says Rudolph Jr confused. “Shh”, says Rudolph, getting on top of the ship as the whale prepares to speak. “I am the Time Whale”, says the whale. “State the password, and I shall grant you passage into the Archipelago of Time”. “Tiempo Tempismo!”, shouts Rudolph. “You may enter”, says the Time Whale, letting the ship pass. After the ship enters the Archipelago of Time, they pass by a prehistoric island inhabited by cavemen and dinosaurs called One Island, also having the Baby New Years from 1875 and 1965, all singing “These are the end times” in an eerily optimistic tone. “I don’t think I wanna come back here again”, says Chaser. “I don’t blame ya”, says Dragon. “This place creeps me out”. Rudolph Jr nods as the ship passes two more islands named Decade Island and Century Island before finally making landfall on an island called Thousand Island.Rudolph, Rudolph Jr, Dragon, Nishi, Henry, and Sevran get off of the ship. “Stay back everyone”, says Rudolph to the others. “This is the last island before we reach the central island. We suspect they’re waiting for us here”. The group of 6 then splits up into two groups: Rudolph, Rudolph Jr, and Dragon in one group and Henry, Nishi, and Sevran in the other. Some time later, after making their way through a forest and into the plains, Rudolph’s group comes face to face with Aeon the Terrible. “We meet again”, says Aeon. “You’re going down this time, Aeon”, says Rudolph, nodding at his son. Meanwhile, Henry’s group comes face to face with General Ticker out in a cold desert. “Let me handle him, guys”, says Henry. Whilst Rudolph and Rudolph Jr were fighting Aeon together, Henry objected to taking on Ticker alone. Nishi watched as Henry started fighting Ticker with concern.“Uh…Sir Henry, are you sure you don’t need any help?”, says Nishi. “Stay back and let the knight do his thing”, says Sevran. “But I haven’t really done anything!” says Nishi,
sounding frustrated. “It’s starting to make me feel useless”. “Oh my days, Nishi, you are NOT useless!”, says Henry, still clashing with Ticker. “THEN LET ME FIGHT HIM!”, shouts
Nishi hysterically, dashing off before Sevran could stop him. He dashes in, beating on the clock on General Ticker’s chest.“Nishi, no!”, says Henry, trying to get Nishi out of the way. However, it was too late. General Ticker stabs Nishi in the side with the suctioning device, his body dropping lifeless before shooting off a canister containing his life energy into the distance. Nishi was dead, and it was all his fault. Henry’s calm regal demeanor vanished in an instant, slashing Ticker across the chest harshly, his blade shattering into dust fluttering in the wind. Ticker then began to expand, preparing to blow himself up. Sevran’s eyes went wide at what he was witnessing.“Henry, we need to get out of here!”, shouts Sevran. “Go, you bishop. A knight never runs from a fight”, says Henry. “But…we need you, Henry”, says Sevran, holding on to his
comrade’s arm. “Send Rudolph and the others my regards. Father Time MUST be stopped”, says Henry. “Long live the red-nosed reindeer!”. Then, before Sevran can say anything more, he gets out of the way in time as Ticker self-destructs, taking down Henry with him. Sevran sobbed with exasperated breaths as he held Henry’s corpse in his arms, determined to tell Rudolph what happened, no matter what.Meanwhile, Rudolph and Rudolph Jr are still fighting Aeon. “Let me get in some hits”, says Dragon. Rudolph, who was now panting and tired from fighting, nods, letting Dragon
join in. Rudolph Jr and Dragon continue fighting Aeon together when, after Rudolph Jr deals the final blow to Aeon, Dragon gets frustrated. “Junior, that was supposed to be MY hit!”, says Dragon. “Well I suppose I beat you to it”, says Rudolph Jr. “Shut up, you snarky reindeer!”, shouts Dragon. Rudolph Jr smirks.“Make me shut up, Dragon”, says Rudolph Jr coldly. Dragon starts getting mad at Rudolph Jr’s attitude again, but unlike before, he can’t hold back his emotions. He shoves
Rudolph Jr’s chest, just like how he did to him. “Dragon, stop it!”, says Rudolph, stepping in to stop Dragon and his son from fighting. In response to his shove, Rudolph Jr starts grunting angrily, his hair briefly flashing golden. “Whoa whoa whoa, calm down, buddy”, says Rudolph to his son. “I’m sorry, dad, I just can’t stand him”, says Rudolph Jr.Then suddenly, a hooded figure comes out of the trees, laughing heartily. Rudolph holds his son protectively whilst hiding Dragon behind him. “It’s Father Time…”, says Rudolph. Father Time looks over at a crippled Aeon laying on the ground, looking displeased. “Father Time…help me…”, says Aeon weakly. In response to this, Father Time grabs Aeon’s wing and tosses him up into the air, firing a blast of magic energy at him without saying a word. “FATHER TIME! NO! NO! NO! NOOOO!”, shouts Aeon before getting hit with the burst of magic, exploding in the air. Aeon the Terrible was dead.Rudolph and Dragon are left absolutely floored by Father Time’s actions, Rudolph Jr sobbing softly. “Why would anyone do that to their friend?”, thinks Rudolph Jr to himself. “Now that the fodder is gone, I have a message I wish to relay”, says Father Time. “FODDER!? That was your friend! What the hell is–”, shouts Dragon, getting up close and personal with Father Time before getting smacked harshly, being left unconscious.“Dragon…”, says Rudolph, stunned. “You really are ruthless, Father Time”. “You say that, yet I only wish to exact justice”, says Father Time, full of himself. “That’s why I got the
second ounce of energy I needed from your father”. Rudolph’s eyes go wide at Father Time’s words, being reminded of everything he has done to him and the ones he loves up to this point. He turned him into a kid again, killed Comet, turned Fireball evil for a brief time, killed his father, and attacked his son at school. His body started to shake, softly pushing his son aside.“Dad…are you okay?”, says Rudolph Jr. “Step aside”, says Rudolph coldly. Rudolph Jr got scared at the change in his father’s tone, running over to where Dragon was, Father Time laughing at Rudolph’s anguish. The winds in the plains began to blow more harshly as Rudolph transformed into his North Star form, but his anger wasn’t satisfied there. He had to go even higher. His body contorted as his power skyrocketed even more, his golden hair getting longer as he took on a new form, being turned back into an adult again. Father Time was left surprised.“What the–”, says Father Time before being interrupted by Rudolph punching him in the face with all his might, roaring at the top of his lungs. Father Time created some distance between himself and Rudolph, dodging the now long-haired reindeer’s attacks when Ticker’s canister landed near them. “It looks like General Ticker did his job”, says Father Time. “Now I have all three ounces I need”.“WHAT!? NOOOO”, shouts Rudolph Jr, panicked. Rudolph points at Father Time angrily. “I’ll get you”, says Rudolph. “Come to Millenium Island at the center and try”, says
Father Time, leaving as he teleports away. Rudolph powers down as he embraces his son, carrying Dragon’s unconscious body over his shoulder. “Let’s get back to the ship”, says Rudolph softly. “I’m sorry if I scared you, son”.“It’s ok, but…what was that form?”, asks Rudolph Jr while walking with his dad. “It was different from your North Star form, and it had long hair”. “I don’t know, but i’m thinking of calling it ‘Ultimate North Star’”, says Rudolph. “Now let’s go”. Some time later, they reunite with Sevran on the shore, who is still shaken.“Sevran? Are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost”, says Rudolph. “Rudolph…i’m anything BUT okay. Henry and Nishi…they’re dead”, says Sevran. Rudolph was
shocked at first, but then he put 2 and 2 together and realized that Nishi was the 3rd ounce of energy Father Time needed. Just like when he found out that Comet died, he was left speechless.Rudolph, Rudolph Jr, and Sevran head back inside the ship, Rudolph having a somber message. “I have some bad news”, says Rudolph. “Henry and Nishi were killed, and Father Time now has enough energy to revive Baby Nyuma. Everyone who has the strength to fight, fight!”. Knowing what this meant, Prancer, Racer, and Chaser all step up. Rudolph and Fireball exchange glares, Fireball’s look being nervous. He then tries to leave when Rudolphine follows after him, pinning him to the wall. “No! No! No!”, says Fireball, beating on Rudolphine’s chest, making her giggle.“You like doing that, don’t you?”, says Rudolphine. “First Rudolph, now me…stop the beating frenzy!”. Fireball starts blushing nervously, beating on Rudolphine even more. “Beating on my chest isn’t going to make me back up. Just tell me, what’s on your mind, Fireball?”, says Rudolphine. “Why did you run away? Rudolph is depending on you”. “I’m just scared. I don’t wanna die”, says Fireball. Rudolphine nods in understanding, grabbing Fireball’s shoulders and giving him a comforting press, telling him to breathe to try and calm him down before letting him go.Thanks to Rudolphine’s help, Fireball finally joins the others, standing next to Rudolph with a calm mind. “No matter what happens…even if everyone in this room dies…i’ll always be there for you, Fireball”, says Rudolphine. Fireball starts tearing up at Rudolphine’s words, wiping them away. “Are you sure you wanna do this, Rudolph?”, asks Randolph. “We won’t reach Millenium Island until the morning of New Year’s Eve”. Rudolph considers Randolph’s words before responding. “All or nothing”.Randolph nods, acknowledging Rudolph’s statement. The ship leaves Thousand Island behind, heading for Millenium Island at the heart of the archipelago. The end of time was upon them, and the ensuing final battle would determine if this would be the last day there ever was.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
It is the morning of December 31st, New Year’s Eve. The ship makes landfall on Millenium Island. Rudolph, Fireball, Prancer, Racer, and Chaser get off of the ship and make haste, knowing they only had these last 24 hours to save the world. By the time they reached the heart of the island, it was evening. Rudolph and the others now stood face to face with Father Time, hoping that they made it in time.“You arrived just in time”, says Father Time. “Just in time to see the awakening, that is”. Rudolph, Fireball, and Racer’s eyes go wide as the three reindeer lunge towards Father Time, but are knocked back by a barrier. “No…”, says Rudolph. “This can’t be”, says Racer. “It’s all over…”, says Prancer. The five reindeer watched as Father Time placed the three canisters inside three slots in an incubator machine containing an egg. Then, with the press of a button, the machine emitted smoke as the egg hatched. Baby Nyuma was here.He was just as he was described: curly blonde hair, blue eyes, and pointy ears. Rudolph and the others stared in terror at the Baby New Year. “No way, it’s actually him…”, says Prancer. “Those ears make him look like an alien”, says Fireball. “Well yes, he is from outer space, but more so, he’s a time demon”, says Father Time. “Now then, Baby Nyuma–”. “Happy”, says Baby Nyuma, interrupting the old warlock and shocking Rudolph & co. even more.“Yes, Happy Nyuma, I know”, says Father Time. “Now, you see these reindeer? Defeat them for me, okay?”. Baby Nyuma looks over at Rudolph and his friends before looking
back at Father Time, grabbing his hand with an unexpected tightness. “Wait…what are you doing!?”, says Father Time in a panicked tone. Then suddenly, in a shocking horrific sight, Baby Nyuma puts Father Time’s hand in his mouth, slurping up his entire body like a noodle, leaving Rudolph & co. even more horrified. Baby Nyuma started to grow, becoming a monstrous adult version of himself, now wearing a crown. “Now I am…perfect”, says the adult Nyuma. He was no longer a baby. He now called himself Perfect Nyuma.“Which one of you wishes to face me first?”, says Perfect Nyuma. “Well…i’m the oldest, so it should be me”, says Prancer. “Prancer, no!”, says Rudolph. But it was too late. Prancer and Perfect Nyuma began to fight, and not long after, Perfect Nyuma punched Prancer in the stomach, making him vomit on the ground, leaving him there defeated.Perfect Nyuma then pointed at Fireball. “Open your mind!”, says Perfect Nyuma. Then suddenly, Fireball started to clutch his head as the mind control started to take over again, the dark rings around his eyes returning. Racer immediately shoved Fireball to the ground, ready to subdue him. “Go help Rudolph, son!”, shouts Racer to Chaser. Chaser nodded, joining his father’s friend as the two of them began fighting Perfect Nyuma together. “Snap out of it, Fireball”, thinks Racer to himself. “You’re better than this, I know it”.Rudolph, Chaser, and Perfect Nyuma continued fighting for several minutes, with Racer finally calming down a now unconscious Fireball. Then suddenly, he witnessed something no father should have to see. Perfect Nyuma picked up Chaser by the neck and slammed him onto the cold ground, leaving him unconscious, but to Racer, his son looked like he might as well be dead. “CHASER”, shouts Racer, holding his son’s unconscious body. “Please don’t die, buddy. Please don’t die. Please don’t die…”. Racer sobbed uncontrollably at his son’s beaten state, worried for his life. Meanwhile, Rudolph’s eyes went wide in disbelief and anger at what Nyuma had done, transforming into his Ultimate North Star form once more.“YOU’RE GONNA PAY NOW, NYUMA!”, shouts Rudolph angrily. Ultimate North Star Rudolph and Perfect Nyuma then continue fighting, with the long-haired reindeer now gaining an upper hand, dealing the damage he promised to the monstrous Baby New Year. Rudolph and Nyuma stood distanced apart from each other as Nyuma panted, his muscles
bulging. “Why must you hate the New Year?”, says Perfect Nyuma. “We’ve had enough of you, Rudolph! I’m ending this right now!”.
With these words, Perfect Nyuma expanded his body, preparing to blow himself up, just like how General Ticker had done before. Rudolph felt the cold air of Death pass by him
again. He started to pant anxiously, his body starting to shake. Then, he looked over at Racer, who still had tears in his eyes, but gave him a reassuring nod. Rudolph nodded back. He was scared, but knew that this was simply his moment. His time had come.Prancer finally started to get up as Rudolph pressed his hands to Perfect Nyuma’s inflated form. “What? No!”, says Prancer. “Goodbye…”, says Rudolph. Then suddenly, in a blinding burst of light, Perfect Nyuma exploded, taking Rudolph down with him. “RUDOLPH, NOOOOO!”, shouts Prancer with an echo. Perfect Nyuma was dead, and it appeared that Rudolph had died as well. The smoke and light cleared from the explosion, as Rudolphine, Rudolph Jr, and Clarice rushed to the scene.Rudolphine & co. arrived to find only Prancer and Racer left standing. She wanted to ask what happened, but was too shocked to form the words. Meanwhile, they were all surprised to find Rudolph still standing, albeit now appearing transparent, with a silver aura flowing around his body. He looked down at the crown laying on the ground. It was the Crown of Time.Rudolph picked up the crown and placed it onto his head, his hair turning white and his eyes golden. A scepter formed in his hand for him to wield as well, and a cape that sparkled like the stars covered his back. He was already the King of Misfits thanks to taking Moonracer’s crown, but now he was the King of Time as well. Rudolph’s friends were left enraptured by this transformation, happy that their friend was alive but nervous for what was happening to him.“Rudolph? Are you ok?”, asks Prancer. “Say something, anything”, says Rudolphine. Then suddenly, the Time Whale appeared before everyone. “Ah yes, I was hoping you would
take it, Rudolph”, says the Time Whale. “You have proven yourself against Father Time and Baby Nyuma, so it has been decided that you shall be the new Father Time. Long live Time King Rudolph!”. It was clear now what had happened. Rudolph had ascended to godhood. He was no longer a mere mortal.“I thought I had died, but i’m glad that wasn’t the case”, says Time King Rudolph. “So what happens now?”. “Come with me, so that the New Year can begin”, says the Time Whale, leaving Rudolph surprised. “Can I say goodbye to my friends first?”, asks Rudolph. “You may, but there is not much time”, says the Time Whale.Rudolph turned to his friends and started tearing up at the thought of possibly never seeing his friends again. “Well, I guess this is it”, says Rudolph. “Any last words?”. “PLEASE DON’T GO, DAD!”, shouts Rudolph Jr, hugging his father nervously. “I’m sorry, Junior, but…it’s out of my control now”, says Rudolph. “We’ll miss you, Rudolph”, says Prancer. “You were a good friend”, says Clarice.Meanwhile, Rudolphine thought back to when she and Rudolph got married, her emotions running over. “Rudolph…even if 1000 years pass…i’ll always love you”, says Rudolphine, holding back her tears, the two of them hugging one last time. Rudolph held his wife tightly, not wanting to let her go before turning back around to the Time Whale. “I’m ready”, says Rudolph.Rudolph then hopped onto the Time Whale’s back, the two of them flying away from the island and the Archipelago of Time. The whale started to fly towards a heavenly light.
Rudolph felt nervous, but then he saw the spirits of Rudolfo and his dad, alongside the others who had died. The sight left him at peace as he laid down on the back of the whale.Moonracer’s Crown of Misfits phased into Rudolph’s body from its place in his house, followed by the Crown of Time. Eventually, his entire body phased into the whale itself, leaving behind the cape and scepter as the whale entered the light. The clocks around the world from New York to Tokyo struck midnight as this happened. The bongs rang out as 1975 came to an end and the New Year, 1976, began. Cheers could be heard around the world, meanwhile back in the Archipelago of Time, it was anything but joy.Rudolphine, Racer, Prancer, and Clarice all sobbed silently as the bells continued to ring before Rudolph Jr collapsed to the ground, breaking down crying. The world had been saved, but regardless he cried. He cried for his father and for the New Year. Then, several years later, in the year 1990, on January 1st, a teenage Rudolph Jr was walking through the streets of Noel Town when he crosses paths with Dragon. “Hey, long time no see! You wanna go, Junior?”, says Dragon. “You bet”, says Rudolph Jr. The two reindeer then transformed into their North Star forms, having learned it over the years. Then, whilst the two old friends brawled in the streets, an old Prancer arrives on the scene. He now walked around with a cane and had a scar on his face, but was still able to fight. “Alright, you two, break it up”, says Prancer. “I was hoping you two wouldn’t be causing any trouble. Come on, Apollo is waiting for you”.Rudolph Jr’s eyes lit up at the thought. He had ran away from home and roamed the North Pole alone in the years since his father left, so he accepted. Then, before the three of them left the town, Rudolph Jr saw a statue. It was of his father and had been erected in his memory, the base reading “RUDOLPH 1950-1976”. However, a piece of paper fluttered over into his hands from near the statue. Rudolph Jr opened it and was shocked by what he saw. It was a note from his father. The message of the note was simply an oddly-worded phrase, followed by being signed by Rudolph himself somehow. The note simply read: “You will heart again”, but to Rudolph Jr, it meant the world knowing that after all these years, his father was still with him despite him being gone. His eyes filled with tears as he sobbed softly, with Prancer embracing him as a song rang out from the heavens, being sung by Rudolph and the angels alongside the others that had passed on, for only him to hear:Don't you see?
That's because I love ya so
I will never let you go
Because I still need youDon't you see?
As the world goes 'round and 'round
Whenever you're feeling down
Just hold on, and I'll be there
Meanwhile, somewhere else in the world, a man with a head of long white hair, blue skin like ice, and a long mustache and beard wearing black robes was chained up to a tree. A new threat was on the horizon. The first time all was well. The second time was bittersweet. However, surely, this time, all would be well.THE END
