Work Text

What is peace? The First Order, led by the dark and powerful Kylo Ren, seeks to crush the Resistance and rule the galaxy with an iron fist. In these desperate times, hope is a rare commodity.
On the jungle moon of Yavin IV, the Resistance has made a daring discovery: crucial construction plans for a new fleet of fighters that could turn the tide of battle. These plans must be delivered to the military headquarters on the remote and hidden moon of Dathomir, where General Leia Organa awaits.
Mia, an orphaned assistant to the diplomat General Eris Valen, has been entrusted with this critical mission. As she prepares to embark on this dangerous journey, she feels an unsettling presence, a warning from the Force that her path is fraught with peril. Determined not to fail her mission, Mia boards the vessel, unaware of the dark fate that awaits her...OOOMia wove her way through the throng of Resistance fighters crowding the Yavin IV base, the jungle moon alive with movement, tension thrumming beneath the surface. She moved quickly, purposefully, there was no room for hesitation. The transport vessel she had barely managed to secure passage on was already preparing for takeoff.
She couldn’t afford to be late.
Just another mission, Mia. Just another mission. But General Valen was counting on her. The Resistance was counting on her.
The thought sat heavy in her chest, meant to steel her resolve but instead pressing down like an invisible weight. She pushed it aside, focusing instead on the hurried activity around her, fighters zipping up holdalls, strapping weapons to their belts, making their final preparations. This was what war looked like. Urgency, routine, and a quiet understanding of the risks they all carried.
General Leia Organa was waiting on Dathomir. The plans had to reach her, and Mia was the one entrusted to deliver them. A linchpin in a mission that could turn the tide of everything.
As she stepped onto the gangplank, a sudden, inexplicable unease prickled at the edges of her mind. The feeling wasn’t unfamiliar—but this time, it was sharper. Almost as if something unseen, something deep and knowing, was trying to warn her.
She hesitated.
Was it just nerves? Or was it something more?
The moment stretched, taut and uncertain. But there was no room for doubt. Not now.
"Stay focused. Don’t let them down."
She clenched her fists, inhaled deeply, and pushed forward. Whatever this was, premonition or paranoia, it couldn’t stop her. The Resistance had put their trust in her, and she wouldn’t fail them.
The hum of the ship’s engines vibrated beneath her feet as the vessel roared to life. She exhaled, forcing herself to relax. No turning back now. The mission had begun. ***The bridge of the Finalizer pulsed with quiet urgency, officers and crew moving with practiced efficiency under the ever-watchful gaze of their Supreme Leader. The air hummed with the tension of controlled chaos, orders exchanged in hushed tones, status reports flickering across darkened screens.
Kylo Ren stood at the viewport, his silhouette stark against the endless void of space. His mind wasn’t on the stars—nor on the men and women around him, but on the mission that lay ahead.
Kyber crystals.
Revered.
Feared.
The lifeblood of both Jedi lightsabers and Sith superweapons. These rare, Force-attuned shards held unimaginable power, capable of amplifying energy to devastating extremes. The Jedi had once nurtured them in sacred caves on Ilum, Jedha, and Lothal, coaxing them into harmony. But the Sith had their own way. They corrupted the crystals, bleeding them red through dark rituals, warping their very essence.
Whispers of hidden caches on Dathomir and Exegol had persisted for centuries, lost in the folds of legend and shadow. If the coordinates he now possessed were true, they could lead him to one of these fabled sources. And with them, the final piece to completing the next generation of planet destroyers.
The thought sent a slow current of anticipation through him. The mission was set.
Confirming the coordinates one last time, Ren turned sharply and strode from the bridge, his steps echoing through the steel corridors of the Finalizer. Each step carried him deeper into his solitude.
The door to his quarters hissed shut behind him. The world outside fell away.
In the dim, cold glow of the chamber, he stood before the mirror. For a long moment, he simply stared, his breath steady but heavy with something unspoken. Slowly, deliberately, he reached up, fingers brushing the edge of his mask—the blackened, half-face covering that concealed more than just flesh.
A slow exhale. Then, he removed it.
Placing the mask gently on the nearby table, his hand trembled as it lifted to his face. His fingertips traced the deep, jagged scar that cut from his jaw, across his cheek, barely missing his eye before vanishing into his forehead. A brutal reminder of his duel with her.
The Scavenger.
Monster. That’s what they see.
A creature shaped by darkness, marked by fate.
He sank to the floor, the weight of it all pressing down like an unseen force. His hand slipped away from his face, falling limply to his side. Eyes closed, he exhaled slowly, a hollow sound in the silence. And then—
A murmur. Low, fractured. A melody spun from sorrow and longing.
Alone in the shadows, he began to sing."Alone in the dark,
A mask hides my shame,
A monster in shadows,
Forever in pain."The words slipped from his lips, unbidden yet inevitable. Each note carried the burden of his solitude, reverberating through the dimly lit chamber. The mask, discarded on the floor, seemed to watch him in the stillness, a reflection of the thing he had become."Scarred and forsaken,
By light I've been spurned,
Destined for darkness,
No hope to return."His fingers curled against the floor as the melody deepened, his voice raw with the quiet agony he rarely allowed himself to feel.
The scar beneath his fingertips burned with memory, the sting of betrayal, of loss, of choices made and bridges burned."A face half a nightmare,
A soul torn apart,
In shadows I wander,
With a broken heart."His voice wavered, barely above a whisper. The song was more than melody, it was confession. A truth he could never speak aloud, not in the presence of others.
And rarely to himself.
But here, in this moment, there was no one to see. No one to judge. No war, no commands, no Supreme Leader. Only the man who had once been Ben Solo, left to linger in the wreckage of what remained.
The melody slowed, its weight sinking into the walls, into the floor beneath him."A creature of night,
No place for the light,
A phantom alone,
In the endless fight."The final note trembled on his lips before vanishing into the silence.
Nothing remained but the rhythmic hum of the ship, indifferent to the storm within him. He let his head fall back against the cold metal, eyes slipping shut, the ache in his chest pressing deeper.
But he knew, this moment of vulnerability, this sliver of something human, could not last.
Slowly, he reached for the mask. The metal was cool beneath his fingertips, solid, unyielding.
A thing without doubt.
Without weakness.
He lifted it, the weight familiar as it slid back into place.
Kylo Ren rose from the floor, his heavy heart once more buried beneath the armour of the dark.***Mia had long abandoned the idea of sleep.
The hum of the ship, the gentle yet persistent vibration beneath her feet, should have been soothing. But her mind refused to settle. Every attempt to close her eyes had been met with restlessness, her nerves fraying at the edges.
Now, she sat alone in the passenger lounge, waiting for the announcement of their arrival at Dathomir. The plans meant for General Organa were securely strapped to her inner thigh in a waterproof casing, and the coordinates of their meeting point were etched firmly into her mind. Every precaution had been taken.
No room for error.
Yet, no matter how much she reassured herself, doubt lingered at the edges of her thoughts.
Her fingers traced the rim of the lukewarm drink in front of her, untouched. Around her, life on the Star Wanderer carried on as if nothing were amiss. A group of traders huddled in one corner, exchanging quiet conversations and counting out credit chips under the table.
A Twi’lek mother soothed a fussy child wrapped in a thick, patched-up shawl. A pair of bounty hunters, their armor worn but well-maintained, ordered another round of drinks from a tired-looking service droid, their voices low and hushed.
The scent of spiced nerf stew and warm bread drifted from the galley, mingling with the sharper tang of engine grease that never quite left the air. Orders were being taken, food served on metal trays, the occasional clink of utensils breaking the quiet murmur of passengers lost in their own worlds. Some were on business, others seeking refuge or simply passing through, Dathomir was not a common tourist destination, save for those foolish or daring enough to seek the ruins of Kujet’s Tomb or the cursed grounds of the ancient Nightsisters.
Mia kept to herself, eyes on the endless expanse of stars streaking past the viewport. She had been given strict instructions: Don’t trust anyone. Don’t talk to strangers. Follow your orders to the letter.
General Valen’s words echoed in her mind, his voice steady, unyielding. He had placed his trust in her. The Resistance had placed their trust in her. She could not afford to let them down.
Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being watched.
Was it just her nerves? Or something more?
She exhaled slowly, unclenching her fists, willing herself to push aside the fear that threatened to take root. Instead, she let herself drift into the only comfort she had ever truly known.
Music.
Her voice was soft at first, barely more than a whisper against the hum of the ship. But as the melody unfolded, it carried through the quiet of the lounge, wrapping around her like an unseen embrace."In the silence of the night,
When the stars are shining bright,
I hear a voice, so soft and low,
A melody of sorrow’s flow.""A velvet tone, a haunting tune,
It eases grief beneath the moon,
A comfort in my darkest hour,
A gentle, unseen, soothing power."The bounty hunters paused, their drinks momentarily forgotten. The Twi’lek mother smiled faintly, rocking her child in time with the rhythm. Even the service droid, mid-stride, seemed to slow as if registering the shift in the air.
Mia kept singing, her voice weaving through the stillness, filled with longing and loss, but also hope."Lost and alone, I wander far,
With every tear, a distant star,
Yet in the void, your song remains,
A balm for all my hidden pains."Her heart ached at the thought of Poe, his warmth like a distant light in the dark. His presence had been a comfort she had never expected, a quiet sanctuary in the chaos of war. He had given her a rose once, a small, delicate thing amidst the destruction. A fleeting moment of beauty in a world that had given her so little."From Poe, a rose, a gift so sweet,
His presence makes my heart complete,
A fleeting joy, a love untold,
In his arms, my fears controlled."But she was not in his arms now. She was alone. And the mission awaited. The ship's tannoy crackled to life, breaking the spell.
"Attention passengers, we are approaching Dathomir. Estimated arrival in fifteen minutes. Please secure your belongings and prepare for descent."
Mia let her voice fade, her last words lingering in the air like a whispered promise. Slowly, the lounge returned to its usual murmur, conversations picking up once more, others preparing to disembark soon.
She turned her gaze back to the viewport, catching sight of Dathomir’s surface coming into view, a desolate, crimson-stained world, its jagged terrain laced with mist. It was a place steeped in darkness, where the ghosts of the past never truly faded.
People began to gather in the departure lounge, adjusting their travel cloaks, murmuring about their meetings, their business. Some were excited, eager to visit the ruins, others, wary and tense, knew better than to linger too long on such a world.
Mia felt a shiver run through her. She had been briefed on Dathomir’s dangers, its ruthless terrain, its history as an Imperial stronghold ut the thought that unsettled her most was the presence of the monstrous, acid-spitting arachnids that roamed its caves and ruins.
She hated spiders.
Her fingers brushed against the waterproof package strapped to her thigh. She had to stay focused. Get in, hand over the plans, get out. That was all that mattered.
But then—
A ripple of unease passed through the crowd. The low murmur of conversation shifted, voices laced with tension.
She turned her head sharply, catching sight of a man whispering urgently to his companion. A Rodian trader, clutching a datapad too tightly. A pilot in the corner, tapping rapidly into his comm unit.
And then, she heard it.
"Public transport vessel Star Wanderer, this is the Finalizer of the First Order. You are required to prepare for landing on Dathomir and submit to an inspection upon arrival. All passengers must remain on board until the inspection is completed and clearance is given by the First Order. Acknowledge receipt of these instructions."
A chill ran down her spine.
The Finalizer.
The First Order.
Kylo Ren.
Her breath caught, her pulse quickening. The very ship that had hunted and destroyed so many of her people, the ship that served as a symbol of everything she had fought against, was now locking onto them.
She swallowed hard as the tannoy crackled again, the pilot’s voice strained but compliant.
"Finalizer, this is the Star Wanderer. We acknowledge your instructions. Preparing for landing on Dathomir and will await your inspection team. Over."
The lounge was no longer filled with idle chatter. Instead, it was thick with tension. Passengers exchanged glances, some shifting uneasily in their seats.
Her fingers curled into fists.
She had to think fast.
She had the plans, she had her orders but now, she also had something else.
A fight for survival.***Meanwhile, at the same time, the bridge of the Finalizer was a symphony of quiet efficiency, every movement precise, every officer at their post with unwavering discipline. The vast viewport framed the endless stretch of space, pinpricked by distant stars.
Kylo Ren stood at the centre, motionless, his gaze fixed on the dark void ahead. The mission consumed his thoughts.
Dathomir.
A world of ancient power, its very soil steeped in blood and secrets. The planet was one of the few remaining sources of kyber crystals known to the First Order, and he intended to secure them for the completion of their new fleet of planet destroyers. The Force stirred at the thought, deep and restless.
Behind him, the steady rhythm of boots against the floor cut through the bridge’s quiet hum. General Hux approached, stopping just a few paces away.
"Supreme Leader, we are about to arrive in the immediate sphere of Dathomir," he announced, his voice clipped and formal.
Ren did not turn. "Good. Prepare the landing party."
He sensed Hux hesitate, the slight shift in his stance. The man was rarely so restrained; it meant he had more to say.
Kylo finally turned, the dim bridge lights casting half his masked face in shadow.
"Is there something else, General?"
Hux's lips twisted into a smirk, though it failed to reach his cold, calculating eyes.
"There is, Supreme Leader. Our scans have detected a public transport vessel heading toward the planet."
Ren’s expression remained unreadable, though his mind sharpened. "And why, General, would a public transport vessel be of any interest to us?"
Hux’s smirk deepened, his tone turning condescending. "It doesn't matter whether it’s a Resistance ship or a civilian transport. We should always conduct intermittent inspections—ensure no one slips through our grip. We should assume Resistance spies are everywhere."
Kylo studied him for a long moment. Hux was ambitious, eager to prove his authority, and always hunting for ways to tighten the First Order’s hold. Ren had no patience for his political manoeuvring, but he could not ignore the logic. Dathomir was not a planet of casual travellers. If a vessel was bound for its surface, there was reason enough to suspect something.
"Very well," Ren said at last, his voice measured. "Have an inspection team ready. We will make a detour."
"As you command, Supreme Leader," Hux replied, satisfaction creeping into his voice.
The Finalizer shifted course with practiced precision, its vast silhouette gliding into the transport’s path, a dark colossus against the star-flecked abyss. Ren watched as the crew moved with fluid efficiency, no wasted motion, no hesitation. These were soldiers, instruments of war, conditioned to obey.
He exhaled slowly. "Initiate contact with the transport vessel."
A communications officer obeyed without question, fingers dancing over the control panel. A moment later, his voice carried through the bridge, cold and impersonal.
The bridge held its breath in the silence that followed.
A crackle of static. Then—
"Finalizer, this is the Star Wanderer. We acknowledge your instructions. Preparing for landing on Dathomir and will await your inspection team. Over."
Ren remained still as the Finalizer’s systems locked onto the transport vessel, the tractor beam engaging with a pulsating glow. The Star Wanderer gave a visible shudder under the force of its grip but remained locked in its course, powerless to resist.
"Tractor beam engaged, Supreme Leader," an officer reported crisply. "The transport vessel is secure and unable to alter its trajectory."
Ren nodded, his gaze fixed on the distant ship, now held in their grasp. "Ensure the inspection team is ready to board immediately upon landing. I want a full report on all passengers and cargo."
Beside him, Hux folded his arms, watching the process unfold with evident satisfaction. "It will be done, Supreme Leader. We should expect no resistance from a mere public transport."
Ren’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Do not underestimate any vessel, General. We will maintain our vigilance."
Hux hesitated, as if weighing whether to press further, but ultimately chose silence.
As the Finalizer drifted closer to Dathomir’s orbit, the Star Wanderer remained ensnared in its grasp, following the path dictated to it. The planet’s surface loomed ever nearer, its crimson landscape barely illuminated against the void. The world pulsed with ancient energy, a place where the dark side still lingered, whispering in forgotten ruins and ghostly remnants.
Ren turned away from the viewport, his mind already shifting to the inspection ahead.
Dathomir was not a place for chance encounters. If someone had chosen to travel here, there was a reason. And he intended to find out what it was.***Mia’s pulse quickened at the announcement crackling over the tannoy.
No longer were the droids issuing their routine instructions about documentation procedures. Instead, the mechanical voice had taken on a sharper, more urgent tone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please remain in your seats. Do not attempt to leave the vessel or disembark onto Dathomir. All passengers are required to submit to an inspection by representatives of the First Order. Compliance is mandatory."
A cold weight settled in her stomach.
She straightened in her seat, her fingers gripping the armrest, knuckles paling. Her breath came slower, measured, as she forced herself to stay calm, to assess.
Around her, the atmosphere shifted. The murmur of conversation dimmed as the realization sank in. Passengers who had once been relaxed or absentmindedly chatting now stiffened, some exchanging nervous glances, others deliberately avoiding eye contact. Some clutched their belongings more tightly, subtly adjusting their bags or coats as though preparing to present their documents without trouble.
A few continued their attempts to appear casual, sipping their drinks or staring blankly at the viewport, but their rigid postures betrayed them.
Mia let her gaze flicker over them, searching for anyone who might be a target, a true fugitive, a Resistance operative in disguise.
The man sitting nearest to her was an odd candidate, clad in black leather with silver-fastened boots to match his jacket. He seemed a little too composed. For a moment, she thought he might be a smuggler or some outlaw hiding in plain sight.
Then, he smiled at her.
A slow, easy grin, as if he had no care in the world. His expression was too innocent, too effortless. Either he was genuinely unbothered by the announcement, or he was an expert at feigning ignorance.
She looked away, her thoughts racing.
Could she escape?
Her mind sketched the possibilities, slipping through the departing crowd, vanishing into the ship’s lower decks, blending in with the service droids. But the risks were too high. Running now would only mark her as a suspect, make her a spectacle, an easy target. Would she really let herself be chased through the ship, seized in public, dragged away in full view of frightened onlookers?
A tightness formed in her chest.
Her only option was to remain still, act as though she had nothing to hide. And yet, no matter how she composed herself, the quiet anxiety clawed at her mind. If they searched too thoroughly, if they so much as glanced at her thigh, they would find the hidden package. If they questioned her too aggressively, she might slip.
Her fingers curled into her lap as she fought to steady her breathing.
Think. Find a way.
But then, the soft hiss of the airlock cycling open sent ice through her veins.
The hydraulic doors at the end of the room slid apart with a mechanical whoosh and they stepped inside.
Six guards entered in formation.
Four of them, stormtroopers, pristine in their white armour, moved in perfect synchronization, blasters in hand, their visors cold and unfeeling. Behind them, two officers in formal black uniforms followed, their military caps casting shadows over their severe expressions.
And then—
The last figure stepped forward.
A hush fell over the room, passengers shrinking into their seats as if the very presence of the man had stolen the air from their lungs.
Kylo Ren.
He didn’t have to say a word. His presence alone was enough to silence the crowd.
He moved through the threshold like a phantom of war, his black robes billowing with each step, the faint metallic gleam of his half-mask catching the dim light of the cabin.
Unlike the full helmet he was once known for, this mask only covered the right side of his face, leaving the left exposed. The contrast was striking, one half an unreadable enigma of metal and shadow, the other all too human.
Mia’s breath caught in her throat as she looked at him.
From the rear of the room, he surveyed the scene, motionless yet commanding. His subordinates sprang into action, moving with crisp efficiency. The two lieutenants began circulating among the passengers, collecting identification, inspecting travel logs, interrogating those who seemed remotely suspicious.
Mia forced herself to remain still, her pulse hammering against her ribs.
She didn’t dare glance at the package strapped to her thigh. Didn’t dare adjust her posture.
But she felt him before she saw him.
A disturbance in the Force.
It was subtle, but unmistakable, a ripple that sent an unnatural chill crawling up her spine. A shift in the air around her.
And then, she saw it happen.
Kylo Ren’s eye scanned the room, gliding over rows of passengers. But when it reached her, it stopped.
Not just a glance. A deliberate pause.
A recognition.
Her fingers clenched in her lap, her breath shallow.
His eye did not waver. It pinned her, held her, as though reading something beyond the surface. She knew she should look away, feign indifference, let him move on. But she couldn’t. And even when she did, even when she tore her gaze down toward the floor, she knew it was too late.
Two stormtroopers moved in unison, stepping to either side of her.
She stared ahead, her heartbeat drumming in her ears.
The room felt impossibly small as Kylo Ren stepped past his officers, past the other passengers, closing the distance between them with slow, measured strides. He was taller than she had expected, his presence consuming, overwhelming.
He stopped directly in front of her.
The air between them buzzed with something unspoken, something unseen, something only the Force could explain.
His mouth pressed into a thin line. His lips moved slightly, as if chewing the inside of his cheek. He was studying her, his gaze flickering across her face, searching for… what? Lies? Recognition? Fear?
She swallowed but did not move.
Then, he leaned in.
"Who are you?" he asked, his voice quiet but firm. A demand, not a question. "What is your reason for traveling to Dathomir?"
She fought to keep her expression neutral. Her mind raced for an answer that would sound both truthful and harmless.
"I am Mia," she said carefully. "Assistant to General Eris Valen. I am on a diplomatic mission. That’s all."
Ren’s exposed eye narrowed slightly. A barely perceptible shift.
"Is that so?" he murmured.
Before she could answer, he straightened, his voice turning decisive.
"You will be taken aboard my ship."
Her stomach lurched. "But... I haven’t done anything wrong."
Ren’s head tilted slightly, a shadow of amusement barely flickering across his features. He lifted a gloved hand, a small motion, but enough to silence her instantly.
"You will come with me."
There was no room for argument.
A myriad of emotions whirled inside her, fear, panic, confusion. And yet, beneath them all, something else stirred. Something deeper, more inexplicable.
She did not resist. She couldn’t.
The passengers watched in fearful silence as the stormtroopers flanked her, ushering her forward.
As she stepped off the Star Wanderer, trailing in Ren’s shadow, she knew one thing for certain.
Her mission had just taken a turn she might not escape.
When she stepped off the Star Wanderer, her boots barely touched the metal ramp, her every move shadowed by the stormtroopers flanking her.
The air inside the Finalizer was cold, sterile, thick with the scent of durasteel and engine coolant. The docking bay stretched out before her in a vast, oppressive display of order and control, rows of stormtroopers standing at rigid attention, their featureless helmets reflecting the harsh overhead lighting. None moved. None spoke. But she could feel their focus on her.
Watching.
Assessing.
Her fingers twitched at her sides, the urge to bolt igniting deep in her muscles, but she forced herself to keep walking. Running was not an option. Not here. Not with him just ahead of her.
Kylo Ren led the way, his black cloak billowing with each measured step, the only thing in this sea of white and steel that moved with any kind of life. He didn’t look back, didn’t need to, his authority dictated that she would follow. That she had to follow.
The stormtroopers flanking her kept pace, unyielding and silent. The rhythmic clank of boots against metal filled the corridor as they moved deeper into the ship, the towering walls narrowing around her like a slowly closing fist. The overhead lighting was harsh, casting sharp, artificial brightness against the durasteel, but it did nothing to warm the space. The Finalizer was nothing like the worn, bustling transports she was used to. There was no chatter here, no life beyond the unwavering discipline of the First Order.
Everything was cold.
Efficient.
And inescapable.
Mia’s heartbeat pressed against her ribs as she moved forward, her body stiff with restraint. She forced her breathing to remain even, though her pulse quickened with every step.
If they searched her, if they discovered what was strapped to her thigh…
She swallowed hard. She couldn’t let herself think about that.
But then, there was something else. Something more unnerving than the soldiers at her sides, more suffocating than the walls closing in.
Him.
The darkness radiating off Kylo Ren was not just an aura—it was a living force, thick and undeniable. It coiled around him like a silent storm, invisible yet impossible to ignore.
It wasn't just power.
It was command.
Every officer, every trooper, every single soul aboard this ship bent to his will. And now, she was caught in his orbit, drawn forward by something unseen, something she didn’t understand.
She clenched her fists, willing herself not to shudder.
They reached their destination.
The door at the end of the corridor slid open with a quiet but decisive hiss, revealing a stark, dimly lit chamber.
An interrogation room.
Her stomach twisted, but she forced herself to step inside, her boots crossing onto the cold, featureless floor. The walls were seamless durasteel, designed to strip away all distractions, all comfort. A single metal chair sat in the centre of the room, positioned beneath the harsh overhead lighting. The only other piece of furniture was a table, simple, functional, a barrier that meant nothing against what he could do to her mind.
The stormtroopers stopped at the threshold. Only she and Kylo Ren entered.
The door sealed shut behind them with an ominous finality.
She was alone with him now.
A breath tightened in her chest as she turned to face him. He loomed before her, unmoving, his presence suffocating. There was something terrifying about the stillness of him, the way he didn’t fidget, didn’t adjust his stance, like a predator waiting for its prey to realize it had already been caught.
The mask covered half his face, but his visible eye, dark, sharp, studied her with an intensity that made her want to shrink back.
She didn’t.
Instead, she met his gaze, her chin lifting just slightly. A quiet defiance. She would not break before this had even begun.
Kylo Ren gestured to the chair, the movement of his gloved fingers barely more than a flick.
“Sit.”
A command, not a request.
She hesitated, the air between them charged with something unspoken. Then, knowing she had no choice, she lowered herself onto the cold metal seat, keeping her posture straight, resisting the urge to cross her arms.
She would not look weak.
Ren moved forward, the air shifting subtly as he placed his hands on the table, leaning forward just enough to cast her in his shadow.
He was watching her too closely. Measuring.
"What was your purpose here?"
His voice was low, intimidating.
Mia inhaled through her nose, steadying herself.
"I am an assistant to General Eris Valen,” she said, her tone controlled. “I am on a diplomatic mission to deliver construction plans."
Silence.
Ren didn’t react immediately, but she could feel his disbelief, the quiet weight of it pressing against her skin. His fingers flexed against the table, slow and methodical, as if considering how best to unravel her.
"You’re lying," he said.
Not a question. A fact.
Mia forced herself to hold his gaze, even as the air in the room grew heavier.
"I am not lying," she insisted. "That is my mission."
His visible eye darkened, his expression unreadable.
Then, without warning, the air shifted.
She barely had time to brace herself before it hit, an invisible force crashing through her mind, sharp and violating. She gasped, her body jerking at the sudden intrusion. It wasn’t just a touch; it was a prying, a tearing through her thoughts, dragging her secrets to the surface.
No.
Her hands gripped the sides of the chair, her breath catching as she fought back, trying to shut him out. The pressure was immense, suffocating. Flashes of memory flickered through her mind, shattered images of her homeworld’s destruction, of the Resistance base, of Poe’s voice murmuring in the dark.
And the plans. The ones she had to protect.
She tried to push them away, to bury them beneath layers of meaningless thought, but he was there, pulling, demanding—
Then, suddenly, the presence in her mind recoiled.
The intrusion snapped away like a frayed wire. She sucked in a sharp breath, her whole body trembling from the effort.
When she opened her eyes, Kylo Ren was staring at her.
And for the first time, there was something different in his gaze.
Interest.
"You are Force-sensitive," he said, his voice quieter now, thoughtful.
She stiffened, her breath still uneven. She hadn’t meant to reveal that.
She scrambled for control, for anything to regain her footing.
"If you know that," she hissed, "then you must also know I am telling the truth."
A slow beat of silence. Then—
A single step forward.
Ren’s presence bore down on her like a shadowed wave, the air charged, the dim light catching against the ridges of his mask. The Force swirled around him, dark and unrelenting.
Then, just as abruptly, he straightened.
"For now, I will keep you under observation," he said. His voice was final. "But make no mistake—you will not leave this ship until I am satisfied with your answers."
The threat was implicit. Unshakable.
Mia swallowed, her pulse hammering, but she met his gaze head-on.
She was still breathing.
Still alive.
But for how much longer?***Ren watched in silence as the stormtroopers led Mia away, her presence lingering in his mind like an unresolved melody. Even as she disappeared down the corridor, something about her stayed with him—something unsettling.
He turned sharply, his cape flowing behind him like a shadow as he strode back toward the bridge. The dim corridors of the Finalizer stretched ahead, the familiar rhythm of the ship’s quiet hum pressing into his thoughts.
General Hux was waiting, his face a mask of professionalism, though his rigid posture betrayed his impatience.
“General Hux,” Kylo began, his voice cold and authoritative, “proceed with the main mission. The Finalizer will remain in immediate orbit of Dathomir. Deploy the shuttles to land on the planet and collect the kyber crystals. Be prepared for resistance; Dathomir is a lawless territory, and we must anticipate conflict.”
Hux inclined his head sharply, his expression one of forced obedience. “Understood, Supreme Leader. I will oversee the operation personally.”
Kylo dismissed him with a curt nod and turned, his boots striking against the floor with measured precision as he headed toward his personal quarters.
The moment the door slid shut behind him, he took a deep breathe.
The dim lighting cast shadows along the walls, the cold silence wrapping around him like armour. He reached up, removing his mask with a controlled motion, feeling the tension ease slightly as the air hit his scarred skin. He rubbed a gloved hand over the rough ridges of the wound across his cheek, then sank into a chair, his mind a storm of unfinished thoughts.
The mission was crucial. The acquisition of kyber crystals would solidify the First Order’s next step. But she was a distraction he hadn’t accounted for.
Mia.
She looked too… out of place. Too unassuming to be wrapped up in something of significance. Yet, the Force told him otherwise. Her presence wasn’t an accident.
He had seen the way she had fought him,not with words, but with something deeper. A strength she shouldn’t have had. A resistance she shouldn’t have been capable of.
And those eyes—hazel, warm, conflicted. A direct contrast to the cold abyss he had chosen to embrace.
A muscle in his jaw twitched as he pushed himself upright. Restlessness clawed at him. Something unspoken lurked beneath his ribs, an ache that was neither physical nor entirely understood.
And so, he did the only thing he could to clear his mind.
He began to sing.
His voice was low, rich, carrying across the chamber like a ghost of an old wound."In shadows deep, where light does fade,
A prisoner lies, her truth delayed.
Her hazel eyes, a haunting hue,
What secrets lie, concealed from view?"
His fingers curled at his sides, the melody vibrating through him as if it had been waiting to surface."I sense a bond, a Force unknown,
A tethered fate, to me she's thrown.
Her presence stirs, a longing deep,
To fill the void, where darkness creeps."He turned, facing the reflection in the darkened glass of his quarters, the half of his face that was visible, the other forever hidden behind the black metal of his mask."I'll find the truth, no lies can hide,
In her I'll delve, the Force my guide.
Yet in my heart, a whisper calls,
A lonely cry, within these walls."A sharp inhale.
He could still see her, still feel her defiance. The way she had tried to resist. The way she had called to something deep within him, without even meaning to."Why do your eyes, so deeply shine?
A light that seeks, to merge with mine.
I'll break your will, I'll make you see,
Your secrets laid, bare before me."His voice grew quieter, the final words laced with something that tasted too much like yearning. "Mia, speak to me, let down your guard,
Reveal the truth, no matter how hard.
For in your soul, I sense the key,
To end my pain, and set me free."The last note faded, leaving only silence in its wake.
He breathed, his shoulders tightening.
He had to break her.
Not just to get what he needed, but to understand why the Force had chosen her to cross his path.
And yet, as he turned back toward the cold emptiness of his quarters, something told him that breaking her wouldn’t be so simple.
Perhaps, in breaking her, he might unravel something within himself.***A wave of nausea gripped her, forcing her to take deep, deliberate breaths, but they did little to steady her.
Since the moment Kylo Ren had left, his smirk lingering in her mind like an unshakable spectre, she had been pacing the confines of her cramped cell. The walls felt too close, the air too thin. His words repeated in an endless, suffocating loop:
"Don't play games with me. I can feel it. You are Force-sensitive. That makes you even more intriguing."
Her heart pounded harder. She couldn't shake the way he had looked at her, as if peeling away the layers of her defences, seeing something she wasn’t ready to admit—even to herself.
Had he seen everything?
Had he felt the truth hiding beneath her lies?
The brutal invasion of her mind still left her shaken, raw. But that wasn’t what terrified her most.
The package.
Strapped tightly to her thigh, unseen but dangerously present. If she were subjected to a physical search, it would all be over. The plans, the mission, her life, everything would end before she had the chance to fulfil what she had set out to do.
Her arms ached as she rubbed at them, wincing when her fingers ghosted over the bruises already forming from where the stormtroopers had dragged her through the Finalizer’s corridors. They hadn’t spoken a word to her. They had only followed orders, cold and methodical, forcing her forward with an unyielding grip.
"Where are you taking me?" she had pleaded, her voice cracking.
"The Supreme Leader has ordered that you be taken to the cells, miss."
No emotion. No explanation. Just a statement of fact, as if it were nothing more than routine.
Now, trapped in the silent darkness of the cell, reality settled over her like a heavy weight. No trial. No justification.
Had she already been forgotten?
Left to rot in this cold, windowless void until someone decided what to do with her?
Her fingers curled into the fabric of her sleeves, gripping them tightly as she fought the gnawing sense of isolation. She had never been one to crave attention, but being left completely alone, adrift in the unknown—filled her with unease. The only person she might have reached out to was her sister, Beth. But Beth was far away. And they hadn’t spoken in so long.
She pulled her knees to her chest, pressing her forehead against them, her breathing shallow. Desperation drove her to reach through the Force, searching for Beth’s presence, for something familiar.
But anxiety choked her off.
Nothing came.
Just silence.
She was alone.
She squeezed her eyes shut, fighting the rising fear. She needed clarity, needed to think. But no matter how hard she tried to centre herself, to push away the chaos, one thought refused to leave her.
Kylo Ren.
His presence still clung to her like an imprint on the air, his voice a shadow at the edges of her mind.
Then—
She heard it.
A sound so unexpected, so impossibly out of place, that she held her breath.
A voice.
Deep. Sorrowful. Familiar.
Her breath hitched as recognition struck.
Kylo Ren.
He was singing.
The same haunting melody that had drifted through her dreams for as long as she could remember.
The song that had always felt like a whisper of comfort in the dark.
And yet, he was the last person she would have expected to be its source.
The notes curled through the silence like ghostly tendrils, wrapping around her in a way she couldn’t explain. There was longing in it. Pain. A depth of emotion that made her stomach tighten."In shadows deep, where light does fade,
A prisoner lies, her truth delayed.
Her hazel eyes, a haunting hue,
What secrets lie, concealed from view?"She pressed a hand to her chest, her heartbeat wild beneath her palm."I sense a bond, a Force unknown,
A tethered fate, to me she's thrown.
Her presence stirs, a longing deep,
To fill the void, where darkness creeps."She curled into herself, torn between wanting to shut it out and wanting to listen."I'll find the truth, no lies can hide,
In her I'll delve, the Force my guide.
Yet in my heart, a whisper calls,
A lonely cry, within these walls."The final notes drifted away, but the absence of sound did nothing to quiet the storm inside her.
How?
How was he the voice?
The one she had always trusted, always sought in the quiet hours of the night, believing it to be some unseen guardian, some lost memory echoing through time.
And now…
Now, that voice belonged to the very man who held her prisoner.
A connection pulsed between them, threading through the Force, binding them together in ways she didn’t understand.
She wanted to run from it. She wanted to pull away from the magnetic pull that reached for her, that stirred something deep inside her chest.
And yet—
Before she could stop herself, before she could think, her lips parted.
And she answered.
Her voice trembled, soft and uncertain, a whisper carried through the Force."In my dreams, your voice I heard,
A comfort sweet, within each word.
I thought you were my guiding star,
But now I see how wrong you are."Her own words hit her harder than she expected."Your voice, it called me through the night,
A beacon in my darkest plight.
But now to know you’re this dark man,
I’m lost, alone, without a plan."Her throat tightened. She felt the whisper of his presence, listening.
"Kylo, your voice, it haunted me,
A sad lament, a melody.
I thought you’d guide me through the pain,
But now I’m left with fear and shame."She swallowed hard. The words hurt more than she expected."What should I do? Where should I turn?
In this dark cell, my heart does yearn.
For answers, for a guiding light,
To lead me through this endless night."Her voice faded, the last note trembling in the quiet.
Her hands clenched into fists.
She had never felt more vulnerable.
The realization that Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader of the First Order, was the source of the voice that had comforted her for so long sent a chill through her.
It unravelled something inside her.
She had always found solace in that voice, believing it to be a whisper of reassurance in the darkness.
But now—
That same voice threatened her very existence. A deep, aching loneliness settled over her.
She wasn’t just trapped in this cold, lifeless cell.
She was trapped in a fate she didn’t understand.
And worst of all—
She didn’t know whether to fight it… or follow where it led.
***
As Kylo sat alone in his quarters, his mind refused to settle. Thoughts of the girl he had taken captive circled restlessly, never fading, never loosening their grip. It was irrational, infuriating. He had interrogated prisoners before, broken minds without hesitation. Yet she lingered, her presence etched into his thoughts in a way he couldn’t explain.
Then, without warning, the Force stirred.
It started as a faint ripple, barely perceptible, but grew stronger, tightening around him like unseen threads pulling taut. His breath shallowed, his senses sharpening as the disturbance wove through him, threading into his very bones.
And then, he heard it.
A voice, soft, trembling, drifting through the stillness.
Mia.
His muscles tensed, shoulders locking in place as the delicate melody laced into his thoughts. The sound was too real, too familiar. A strange pull gripped his chest, an ache both foreign and unwelcome. He flinched. The familiarity of it unsettled him, his fingers curling into fists against his knees.
For a moment, he sat frozen, his mind scrambling for an explanation.
"No."
The word barely left his lips, as if speaking it aloud might undo whatever was happening. He turned sharply, scanning the dimly lit room, searching for a source. There was nothing. No comm devices, no transmissions, no visible link between them.
Then the Force pulsed again, not a whisper this time, but a surge—sharp, electric. The air thickened, the energy shifting, crackling at the edges of his awareness. His breath caught.
And suddenly—
She was there.
Flickering like a mirage, caught between presence and illusion.
His body went rigid, his breath stalling mid-inhale.
She stood before him, her form wavering as though the universe itself was unsure whether she should exist in this space. Wide eyes, filled with uncertainty, locked onto his. A mirror of his own shock.
She wasn’t supposed to be here.
Yet she was.
His chest rose and fell in steady, controlled breaths as he forced himself to move, to think. His gaze flicked beyond her, expecting to see her surroundings—her cell, the walls of the Finalizer—but there was nothing.
Only her.
His expression darkened, confusion drawing his brows together. His throat worked around words that refused to come. He took a slow step forward, voice low and uncertain:
"Can you… see me?"
Her lips parted, her breath unsteady. Her gaze darted around, mirroring his earlier search.
Finally, she nodded.
Kylo swallowed, his jaw tightening. He cast another glance around the room, but reality held firm, only his own surroundings remained. The realization struck him with quiet force.
"I can only see you." His voice was almost hesitant. "Just you."
The air between them grew heavy with meaning. The Force hummed in tandem with his pulse, the connection between them undeniable now, impossible to ignore.
Mia took a step back, arms wrapping around herself as though bracing against a chill that wasn't there.
Kylo felt a shift inside himself, something loosening, something he had no name for. His shoulders, tense for so long, eased slightly. His breath wavered, and without thinking, without questioning, his voice found a melody.
A song, quiet at first, then unfurling between them, carrying emotions he couldn’t suppress.Kylo's Part:"I’ve been your guardian, the one who brought you comfort,
You have always trusted me.
In your dreams, you heard my voice, and I heard yours in mine.
Now you see me, call me your enemy,
But must that truly be true?"The depth of his voice resonated in the stillness, the sound threading through the unseen tether that bound them. Each note carried something raw, a part of himself that had never been spoken aloud.
Mia’s breath hitched.
He could see the conflict in her eyes—the war between recognition and doubt.
He took another step forward, careful, deliberate, unwilling to shatter the fragile moment. She was close enough to touch, yet when his hand twitched at his side, he resisted the urge.
She wasn’t truly here.
But she wasn’t not here, either.
The Force pulled at him, a current he could neither fight nor escape.
"Mia, search your feelings, you can see, I am no foe."Mia's Part:"You're not my enemy, you're the one who sang to me,
Shared my sadness and despair.
You were there in nights of loneliness,
I felt your sorrow there."Her voice, though trembling, held certainty.
For a heartbeat, she allowed herself to believe it.
Then—
Her expression changed, eyes darkening as her arms tightened around herself."But how can I now look at you and not feel fear?
You were the one I held dear.
Now you turn out to be Kylo Ren,
The dark side’s master and not my guardian."Tears welled in her eyes, slipping free before she could stop them.
And he felt them.
Not in the way he sensed fear in others, not in the way he exploited pain in battle. This was different. It cut through the barriers he had spent years constructing, slipping into places he had long left untouched.
His expression faltered. The mask he had so carefully built—piece by piece, layer by layer—cracked, revealing something far less certain beneath.
He had hurt her.
Not with a weapon, not through power, but by existing as he was.
The Force wove tighter around them, charged with emotions neither of them fully understood. This connection had always been there, a presence at the edges of his awareness, waiting to be acknowledged. He had ignored it, buried it. But now, standing before her, he could no longer deny it.
"Mia," he whispered.
His voice was unsteady, edged with something unfamiliar.
He took another step forward, the final inches between them vanishing."I never meant to cause you pain," he murmured, each word quiet, yet resolute. "I only wanted to find the truth."*** When she saw him, standing there as if he had stepped into the cell with her, it happened so suddenly that it stole the air from her lungs.
There had been no warning. No slow descent into the moment.
Just him.
His presence struck her with force, raw and unexpected, leaving her defences shattered before she had the chance to raise them. Her breath caught, her thoughts colliding in a storm of conflicting emotions.
How was this possible?
What kind of trick was he playing?
He wasn’t here. Not physically. She knew that. Yet, the illusion was flawless, too real, too vivid.
And ye... it wasn’t quite right.
She could only see him. Nothing beyond him. No walls, no light, no shadows cast by anything but himself. It was as if he had been cut out of reality and placed before her with no tether to the world around him.
And she could hear him.
His voice, it was the same voice that had once reached her in the quietest moments, the presence she had unknowingly clung to when she thought she had no one. It had soothed her, calmed her, made her believe she wasn’t truly alone.
But now, that same voice belonged to the man who had taken her captive.
The Force between them pulsed, charged with tension, neither warm nor cold, but brimming with an energy she didn’t know how to define. It wove them together in ways she neither understood nor wanted to accept.
A cold shiver ran down her spine.
Fear.
Confusion.
Betrayal.
Each emotion crashed into the next, leaving her unsteady on her feet.
His image flickered, half-swallowed by shadow, the dim light catching only the edge of his mask. But in that sliver of exposure, she saw his eye, dark, searching. And beneath the hardened surface, there was something she hadn’t noticed before.
There was no arrogance in his gaze now.
No cold detachment.
Only rawness. Stripped of pretence, laid bare—like an old wound left exposed too long.
Her breath wavered.
Kylo took a step closer, the space between them shifting, tightening, as if an invisible thread had pulled taut. The Force stirred in response, dragging them toward each other despite every force of logic that screamed otherwise.
"Mia," he whispered.
The sound of her name in his voice sent a tremor through her chest. There was a weight to it, a quiet plea buried beneath the syllables, as if speaking it alone might be enough to close the distance between them.
She swallowed hard, her throat tight. Slowly, she nodded, though the storm inside her refused to settle.
She couldn’t look away from him.
Didn’t dare.
Taking a steadying breath, she forced her voice past the knot in her chest. It was unsteady, trembling at the edges, but she kept it firm as she met his gaze."You want to find the truth," she whispered, her voice melodic. "Then look at me."Her eyes bore into his, searching for an answer she wasn’t sure she wanted to hear."I’m your prisoner."
"You say this connection means something. But how can it, when you’re the one keeping me here?"Her voice hardened, edged with pain."You let me feel fear. You let me feel loneliness. Emotions you know better than anyone."She saw the slightest shift in his expression, the flicker of hesitation behind his guarded gaze."And yet, you still choose to make me suffer."Silence stretched between them, neither willing to break it first.
Her words lingered, sharp, undeniable.
And in that quiet moment, she felt it—the war inside him.
It lay just beneath the surface.
The battle between the darkness he had embraced and the ember of resistance he had buried for so long. It was deep, faint, barely flickering... but it had not burned out.
And for the first time, she wondered—beneath the mask, beneath the power he wielded—if the man who had once been her guardian in the shadows still existed.
If he was waiting to be reached.
Or if it was already too late.***The next day, after a night of fractured dreams and unanswered questions, Kylo made his way to Mia’s cell. Sleep had eluded him, but he doubted she had fared any better. Even before he reached her, he felt her through the Force, her presence, quiet yet brimming with something unspoken. She was waiting.
The cell doors slid open with a metallic hiss, revealing the small, enclosed space. Dim light spilled from a recessed strip along the ceiling, casting a soft glow on the bare metal walls.
The air held a faint chill, the kind that seeped into the skin after too many hours in confinement. A single cot was bolted to the wall, its thin mattress untouched from a night spent awake. There was no window, no indication of time. It was a place meant to strip away identity, to wear a prisoner down.
And yet, when he stepped inside, Mia did not look worn down.
She rose swiftly from where she had been sitting, movements controlled but tense. Her dark hair had loosened from its tie, strands falling around her face, framing her sharp features. The light caught the slope of her cheekbones, the small crease between her brows betraying wariness beneath her calm exterior.
Her eyes, deep and searching, met his, their depths swirling with something he could not yet name.
She had spent the night unravelling the truth. The voice that had wrapped around her in the dark, that had soothed when fear had taken root, had been his. He had been there, whispering through the silence, an unseen presence keeping the loneliness at bay.
And he had let her believe it was a ghost.
The realization unsettled her more than she wanted to admit. Kylo Ren, the Supreme Leader of the First Order—the man she had been raised to resist—had been the only comfort in her solitude. The thought sent a tremor through her, one she hoped he didn’t notice.
But he did.
The space felt smaller with him inside it, the air thick between them. They moved carefully, like two opposing forces waiting for the other to break. His steps were slow, measured, but when he came to a stop behind her, his breath was just above her ear, deliberate in its nearness.
“I agree with you,” he murmured, voice steady, drawing out every syllable. “From now on, you’ll be my personal guest instead of a prisoner.”
She turned sharply, startled by his words and by how close he had come without her realizing.
Their faces were mere inches apart.
Her breath caught, though whether from surprise or something else, she wasn’t sure. Her eyes flickered over him—the sharp cut of his jaw, the faint shadow of exhaustion beneath his eyes. His expression remained unreadable, yet his stare was intense, unrelenting, searching her in the same way she searched him.
This should have been a relief. It should have eased the weight pressing on her chest. But all she could think about was how this decision would be seen.
How whispers would spread?
How it would reach General Valin and, inevitably, Leia Organa?
How she had vowed to extract vital information from him, yet here she was, entangled in something she didn’t fully understand.
Her pulse betrayed her, quick and uneven. He could feel it through the Force.
He liked it.
Amusement flickered across his lips, subtle but unmistakable.
Without warning, he took her hand—his grip firm, yet careful. The sudden contact sent a shiver through her, but he only guided her to face him fully. And then, without hesitation, he sang.
His voice was deep, rich, a sound that didn’t just fill the space but settled into the marrow of her bones. The melody wove through the stillness, not just heard but felt, reverberating inside her in a way that made it impossible to turn away.
Her fingers tightened in his grasp, as though bracing herself against the pull of something inevitable."In shadows where forgotten whispers throng,
You are the one I’ve pined for, oh so long.
A spectre in the echoes of a tormented plea,
Bound to a fate as dark as a soul can be.
Through twisted halls where silent anguishes roam,
In the void of the heart, I have built you a home.
With chains wrought from sorrow, forged in woe,
And the truth of the matter is, I'll never let you go."The last note lingered, wrapping around them like an unspoken promise.
Her breath was uneven, her chest rising and falling as the words settled inside her. Each verse had cut through her defences, peeling them away layer by layer, until all that remained was the raw truth behind his voice.
She saw it now.
Beneath the Supreme Leader’s title, beneath the weight of the mask he no longer wore, was someone lost. Someone searching.
And she couldn’t ignore it.
The pull between them was undeniable. A force unto itself. And maybe, just maybe, it could change everything.
She swallowed, trying to steady herself. This was too much. Too overwhelming. Too unexpected.
She had expected calculation, a move meant to manipulate her. But his words carried something different. He had painted himself not as a villain, nor a ruler, but as a man drowning in darkness, reaching for something, someone, to pull him free.
She refused to be another shadow in his torment. If she reached back, it would be to guide him into the light.
Her voice, soft yet certain, wove through the quiet between them."Missing you, my Guardian Angel,
With your music and your care,
When I cannot sleep at night,
I know you’re always there.Kylo, are you my Guardian Angel?
With your music and your care,
If I wake, will you hear me
And say you’re always there?"He halted mid-step, as though the melody had physically stopped him.
Slowly, he turned to face her.
His dark gaze was unreadable, yet she could feel the way he was absorbing every note, every meaning tucked beneath the lyrics. And then, just as quietly, he answered. "In shadows deep, where dark dreams dwell,
I’ve watched and guided you so well.
Your silent cries, your hidden fears,
In night’s embrace, I’ve dried your tears.Yes, I am your guardian angel,
In shadows, I remain,
I’ll hold you close, protect you,
And whisper through your pain.Your song of light, it draws me near,
Your heart’s pure light, I’ve come to hear.
Join me now, and understand,
Together we’ll take this stand.Mia, feel my heart’s own sorrow,
For with you, there’s no tomorrow.
Join me, Mia, in my song of darkness."His voice deepened, his presence surrounding her, drawing her in. Their bodies were nearly touching, the space between them vanishing note by note.
His fingers brushed along her arm, the lightest of touches, yet it sent another tremor through her. She shivered.
His head lowered, breath warm against her jaw, lingering just a moment too long."Join me, Mia, in my song of darkness."The words echoed in the confined space, a dark but desperate plea, heavy with longing. Mia felt her breath catch, the intensity of his voice wrapping around her like a force of its own. Her pulse pounded beneath her skin, a rapid, unsteady rhythm she couldn’t control.
His presence filled every inch of the dim corridor, his voice resonating not just in the air but inside her, threading through her very being.
Then, he stepped away, breaking the spell just enough to sever the tension, but not entirely. His fingers remained wrapped around hers, firm but not forceful, tethering her to him. Without a word, he guided her forward, leading her to the turbolift at the end.
The entire ride was silent.
He stood beside her, close enough that she could feel his presence humming through the Force, yet he did not touch her beyond their joined hands. The space between them felt charged, crackling with something unspoken, something that neither of them dared acknowledge. Mia forced herself to take slow, measured breaths, but it did little to steady the wild rhythm of her heart. Every second stretched unbearably, awareness prickling along her skin.
When the doors finally slid open, they stepped into the highest floor of the Finalizer, his personal domain, an entire level reserved only for him.
His quarters were nothing like the sterile, impersonal corridors of the ship. The ceiling stretched higher, the walls lined with dark metal and shadowed alcoves that cast pools of warm light across the space. A large window spanned one side, revealing the endless void of hyperspace, stars streaking in brilliant lines against the darkness. The room itself was vast but strangely quiet, as if it had never truly been lived in. There was no chaos, no clutter, nothing to betray a personal touch, only the stark simplicity of function.
Kylo finally released her hand but didn’t move far. He stretched one arm out, keeping her at arm’s length as his other gestured across the room, as if silently offering it to her.
Then, without warning, he began to sing.
His voice filled the space effortlessly, deep and smooth, velvety with an ache that sent a shiver down her spine. It wrapped around her, dark yet pleading, a melody steeped in something raw and unguarded."Mia, my guardian angel,
Rescue me from this dark abyss.
From these confines, behind which I hide,
Not the monster, but the man inside. In shadows, I’ve been lost so long,
In your light, where I belong.
See past the mask, to the sorrow I bear,
See the man who needs your care.Mia, will you guide me,
Will you stay and set me free?
In this darkness, I am drowned,
Your light is where I can be found.Mia, my guardian angel bright,
Rescue me from this endless night.
Not the monster, but the man inside,
Mia, will you stay by my side?"The final note hung in the air between them, heavy with emotion.
She stood frozen, her chest rising and falling with uneven breaths. The vulnerability in his words, in his voice, it was unlike anything she had expected. The weight of his sorrow settled over her, mingling with something else, something dangerously close to hope.
She knew, sensed with absolute certainty, that her response would change everything.
The moment stretched unbearably, the air too thick, her limbs too heavy. Her vision blurred at the edges, the overwhelming intensity pressing in on her, suffocating and yet impossible to escape. The room wavered, tilting in her vision, and then—
Darkness.
Her body gave out before she even realized what was happening.
Kylo moved before she could hit the ground.
The Force froze her mid-fall, catching her in weightless suspension before he stepped forward, lifting her effortlessly into his arms. Her body was warm against him, her head resting against his shoulder, breath shallow but steady.
For a long moment, he simply looked down at her.
Her lashes fluttered against pale skin, lips slightly parted, her expression smoothed into something fragile in unconsciousness. He felt the warmth of her presence even now, pulsing through the Force, soft and steady, his guardian angel of light.
He carried her across the room, his steps slow, deliberate, as though careful not to wake her. He laid her gently on the bed, his touch lighter than he ever thought himself capable of. The dark sheets contrasted sharply with her presence, her breathing still uneven from what had passed between them.
His fingers moved of their own accord, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face.
“Rest now, my guardian angel of light,” he whispered.
Then, without another word, he turned and left her behind.***Kylo Ren strode onto the bridge of the Finalizer with a presence that sent a ripple of tension through the air.
Officers immediately stiffened, snapping to their duties under the weight of his scrutiny. He moved without hesitation, his steps purposeful as he approached the central console.
With a flick of his fingers, the commlink activated.
"Status report on the kyber crystal retrieval," he commanded.
A holo-image of General Hux flickered to life, his expression taut with frustration.
“Supreme Leader, we have encountered difficulties,” Hux reported. “Our ground team was attacked by indigenous lifeforms occupying the crystal site. However, our fighters are currently handling the threat, and I am confident the mission will be completed shortly.”
Kylo’s eyes narrowed slightly, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Ensure the mission’s success, General. We need those crystals.”
With a sharp gesture, he ended the call and immediately connected with Captain Phasma.
"Captain Phasma, any suspicions among the passengers on the Star Wanderer?"
Phasma’s metallic visage appeared, her voice as steady and unyielding as ever.
"Supreme Leader, all passengers were inspected thoroughly. No indications of Resistance affiliation were found.”
Kylo terminated the call without another word.
His focus should have been on the mission, on the retrieval of the kyber crystals, on securing the power needed to solidify the First Order’s rule but his mind kept drifting back.
To her. To Mia.
To the contradictions in her presence, the way she unravelled something inside him he hadn’t realized was frayed. The strange, inescapable connection that burned between them through the Force.
The emotions stirred in his chest, dark and twisted, unresolved. They coalesced into a melody, low, sombre, edged with the weight of something inevitable."Mia, you're my connected soul in the Force,
But you're also my enemy, on a treacherous course.
You came here to betray the First Order,
Endangered the galaxy, crossed the border. You didn't know I was your angel so near,
Therefore your wrongdoing, I'll choose to oversee here.
But heed this warning, your first and last ride,
Never rouse the temper of the phantom of the dark side."The haunting melody drifted through his mind, its echo lingering even as the bridge remained silent around him.
He stood at the heart of the First Order, cloaked in power and darkness. And yet, for the first time in a long time, he felt himself standing at a precipice, caught between duty and something far more dangerous.
The words of his song faded into the void, but their meaning remained.
Kylo Ren would have to make a choice.
And so would she.

Beth, sensing her sister's distress, offers words of hope and encouragement, promising that a rescue is coming and urging Mia to remain strong and resilient. As the Resistance prepares for their most dangerous mission yet, the stage is set for a confrontation that will determine the fate of Mia and the galaxy....OOOResistance Base Conference RoomPoe Dameron paced the length of the conference room, each step striking the metallic floor with restless energy. The space felt stifling, the overhead lights casting sharp, artificial shadows that did nothing to ease the mounting pressure in his chest. The air carried the faint scent of old circuitry and the ever-present tang of fuel, reminders that beyond these walls, starfighters lay in wait, ready to launch into battle. But they weren’t moving. They weren’t doing anything, and that fact gnawed at him like a physical wound.“This is madness!” he burst out, his hand slicing the air. “We can’t afford to waste time with strategies and counter-strategies. Every second we stand here talking is another second Mia’s at their mercy. We need to move now, hit them hard, fast, before they even know what’s coming.” His voice rang through the chamber, edged with frustration, his breath unsteady from the force of his own emotions.Finn shifted beside him, his arms crossing tightly over his chest, while Rose pressed her lips together, her fingers curled into the fabric of her jacket. They shared a silent understanding, Poe wasn’t the only one feeling desperate.Seated at the head of the table, Leia lifted her gaze and met his with the quiet authority of someone who had stood in his place too many times before. “Poe,” Leia said, her eyes fixed on his with quiet intensity, “charging in without a plan won’t bring Mia home. It’ll only lead to more casualties.”Jaw tightening, Poe turned away for a moment, his fingers digging into the back of a chair as though grounding himself would somehow suppress the tide of anger rising in his throat. “And what if waiting gets her killed?” he shot back, spinning around again. “What if Kylo Ren—” He stopped, the words catching before he could force them out. With arms folded, Holdo, who had been listening, let out a slow breath before speaking. “Mia isn’t just one person. She’s carrying the plans.” She stepped forward, her gaze sharp beneath the soft glow of the holographic map flickering above the table. “And if the reports are correct, those plans detail something far worse than Starkiller Base ever was. A fleet of Star Destroyers, each with enough firepower to reduce entire planets to rubble.”Fingers curling into his palm, Poe gritted out, “You’re talking about military advantages when a person’s life is at stake.”She held his gaze, refusing to look away. “I’m talking about millions of lives. If we get those plans, we don’t just save Mia, we save worlds.”Weary but resolute, Leia nodded. “Holdo’s right. We can’t afford recklessness. We need to strike with precision, not desperation. If we fail, we don’t get another chance.”In that moment, the door hissed open. Like a gust of wind disrupting the heavy air of the chamber, Beth entered swiftly. She looked from Leia to Poe, then squared her shoulders. “I’m coming with you.”Studying her, Leia noted the determination in the firm set of her mouth, the way her fingers twitched at her sides as though she barely restrained the urge to act.“I won’t stay behind while my sister is in danger,” she pressed on, stepping further into the room. “Whatever this mission is, I’m part of it.”Not with indulgence but with understanding, Leia’s expression softened. “Your connection to Mia may be our advantage,” she acknowledged. “We need all the help we can get.”Beth inclined her head, a silent promise in her eyes. “I won’t fail her.”Turning back to the table, Leia pressed a few commands into the console. The holographic projection of the Finalizer expanded, its defences highlighted in sharp, glaring red. The room dimmed slightly as the light from the map cast their faces in stark relief.“The first problem is getting in,” she pointed out, tracing a finger along the outer perimeter of the ship. “The Finalizer is a fortress. We can’t approach undetected, not without drawing fire. We need to create a diversion.”Finn stepped forward, his face saying it all. “We hit one of their supply convoys,” he suggested, confident in the solidity of his idea. “If we strike fast and hard, they’ll have no choice but to divert forces from the Finalizer. That’ll give us the opening we need.” He rested his hands on the table, glancing at the holographic display, his mind already calculating the best point of attack.Standing beside him, Rose crossed her arms, nodding. “Once they’re scrambling to protect their supply lines, we’ll slip through. We’ve got a handful of U-wings equipped with cloaking technology, modified to mask our approach. As long as we stay within their blind spots, we should be able to bypass their scanners and get in close.”Studying the projection, Leia tapped a section of the display. The ship’s docking bay shields flickered in red. “Getting close is only the first step. Once you’re there, you’ll need to disable the tractor beams and bring down the bay shields. That’s your way in.” Her gaze moved to Poe, Finn, Rose, and Beth in turn. “The four of you will infiltrate the Finalizer, locate Mia, and retrieve the plans.”Nodding once, Poe folded his arms. “Get in, find Mia, get out.” He exhaled slowly, rubbing a hand along the back of his neck before narrowing his eyes. “And what about Kylo Ren?” The name came out tight, barely controlled. “We all know he’s not just going to stand aside and let us take her.”Pressing her lips into a thin line, Leia had been expecting the question. “Kylo will be our biggest obstacle,” she admitted. “We avoid him if we can. Beth, use the Force to sense where he is, steer clear of his presence but if confrontation is unavoidable…” She paused, meeting Poe’s gaze. “Be prepared for a fight.”Watching from the sidelines, Holdo shifted slightly. “A second team will be standing by to extract you the moment you have Mia and the plans,” she added, tucking a strand of silver-blonde hair behind her ear. “They’ll provide cover if things go sideways, but don’t rely on reinforcements. If you get pinned down, you’ll be on your own.”Fingers brushing across the edge of the console, Leia let her eyes linger on the map for a long moment before straightening. “Timing is everything,” she murmured. “The moment they realize what’s happening, they’ll close ranks. We need precision. No hesitations, no mistakes.”Letting his gaze sweep across the room, Poe took in Finn, standing tall despite the ghosts that clung to him; Rose, her hands gripping the strap of her gear like a lifeline, though determination burned in her eyes; Beth, shoulders squared, the fire of unwavering loyalty written in every line of her face. These were the people he trusted. If there was any chance of pulling this off, it was with them.He took a deep breath, his pulse steadying.“Alright,” he said, voice firm. “Let’s do this. For Mia. For the Resistance.”***The strike team gathered in the hangar bay, where the sharp scent of fuel mingled with the hum of engines and the metallic clang of tools against starfighter hulls. Mechanics worked with quick, practiced movements, their shouts overlapping as they carried out last-minute checks. The overhead lights flickered slightly, casting long shadows across the ships waiting for launch.Poe stood at the centre of the activity, his stance firm, fingers twitching slightly before he curled them into fists. He scanned the gathered team, searching their faces for any sign of doubt. There was none. Every one of them knew what was at stake. His breath came quicker than usual, but he forced his focus outward. The mission needed clarity, not nerves.“Alright, listen up.” His voice rang out, cutting through the noise. The workers didn’t stop, but those assembled for the strike turned toward him, their attention locked on his words. “This has to be fast and aggressive. We hit the First Order supply convoy hard enough that they have no choice but to divert forces. That buys Finn, Rose, Beth, and me the opening we need to reach the Finalizer undetected. Stick to the plan, execute clean, and we walk away with everything we came for.” He paused, sweeping his gaze across them. Not a single flinch, not an ounce of hesitation. Good.Finn checked his blaster, adjusting his grip, his thumb brushing over the cool metal as if reacquainting himself with an old companion. His past with the First Order clawed at the edges of his mind, but he forced it aside. That life was behind him. This fight was his choice.“They won’t see it coming,” he said, glancing toward Poe before turning back to the others. “I’ve been on those convoys. They think they’re untouchable. We’ll prove them wrong. We go in hard, disrupt their operation, and force them to scramble. Once they’re busy trying to figure out what hit them, they won’t be looking for a stealth ship slipping past their defences.” His fingers curled around the weapon at his side before he looked up again. “Stay sharp. We only get one shot at this.”The hangar around them still pulsed with movement, technicians running pre-flight checks, droids weaving between crates of supplies, but the atmosphere had shifted. The mission had become real in that moment, the uncertainty replaced with a fierce, unwavering drive. They weren’t just another ragtag Resistance squad. They were the ones who would change everything.Rose ran a hand over the side of her blaster, checking the power cell with quick efficiency. The motion was second nature, but as her fingers brushed over the cool metal, she forced herself to slow, steadying her hands. She flexed them briefly, shaking out the tension coiled in her limbs before curling them into a fist. The anticipation of battle sat heavily upon her shoulders, but so too did the resolve that had carried her through every fight before. The more time passed, the more the hangar was alive with movement, mechanics working quickly to finalize ship preparations, droids weaving between personnel carrying supplies, the sharp scent of oil and coolant lingering as ships powered up for departure.“This isn’t just about creating a diversion,” she declared, stepping forward so that her voice carried above the distant hum of engines and the clatter of tools against metal. “This is Mia’s chance. If you all do this right, you’ll buy us the time we need.” Her gaze swept over the gathered pilots and ground fighters, taking in their grim but determined faces. “But this is bigger than just one person. The First Order isn’t just hunting her, they’re hunting everyone who refuses to kneel. Let’s make sure they remember exactly why they fear the Resistance.”A few murmurs of agreement stirred through the group. Jess Pava, already suited up for the aerial strike, leaned against the hull of her X-wing, fingers gliding along the smooth fuselage, tracing the cold metal with a practiced touch. The engines thrummed beneath her palm, a steady vibration that settled into her bones. She turned, lifting her chin as she spoke. “I’ll lead the air assault.” The words left no room for doubt, nor did the sharp gleam in her eyes. “We take out their fighters, clear the sky, and give the ground team space to move. The First Order won’t ignore an attack like that, by the time they realize what’s happening, we’ll have them tangled in their own mess. We won’t stop until the job’s done.” She cast a glance around the team, then gave a brief nod. “Let’s make it count. And may the Force be with us.”Nearby, Kaydel Ko Connix adjusted the fit of her headset, fingers brushing over the control panel at her wrist. The faint glow of her display reflected in her keen eyes, her mind already running through the coordination of frequencies and team positions.“I’ll be monitoring everything from here,” she assured them, offering a quick but confident smile. “If anything shifts, you’ll know the second it happens. Stay sharp, stay in contact, and follow the plan.”Lt. Datoo, standing at the edge of the group, gave a slow glance over the fighters under his command. He measured their faces, noting the tension in some, the hardened focus in others. Then, with the kind of composed authority that required no forceful display, he spoke.“We’ll be taking the fight to them on the ground,” he stated, adjusting the strap of his blaster across his shoulder. “No hesitation. No wasted movements. Keep your heads down, move quickly, and hit with precision. Our job is to keep them looking at us, not at the Finalizer. Do that, and we walk away knowing we did our part.”A charged silence followed. No one needed further instruction. The mission was clear. The hangar, once buzzing with overlapping conversations and final preparations, now pulsed with a different energy, controlled, sharpened. Each fighter understood the weight of what they were walking into, but fear had no room to settle here. The moment they stepped onto the battlefield, all that would remain was action. The engines flared to life, their low, resonant hum reverberating through the hangar like the first distant tremors of an oncoming storm. The reinforced doors groaned as they slid apart, revealing the yawning stretch of space beyond, deep, endless, indifferent to the battles fought within it. A faint shudder passed through the deck as the ships powered up, their thrusters casting flickering shadows along the durasteel floor. The team stood at the threshold, each momentarily still, as if committing themselves fully before stepping into the unknown. There was no need for speeches; every person here understood what lay ahead.Poe stood by the modified U-wing, fingers gliding over the cool metal. The solid frame anchored him, not as comfort, but as certainty. Responsibility wasn’t a burden, it was armour. Hesitation had no place here. The mission was clear. The risks were absolute and yet, there was no other course to take.“This is it.” His words carried no unnecessary weight, only purpose. He turned, meeting each gaze in turn, his voice firm but quiet. “The cloaking system should get us through their scanners and past the outer defences. We move in unseen, get Mia, and leave. No errors, no wasted time.” His eyes lingered on Beth, sensing the quiet storm beneath her composed exterior. For her, this was more than strategy or duty, it was blood.Finn adjusted the strap across his chest, glancing down as he ran a final check over his equipment. The familiar weight of his blaster at his side should have been reassuring, yet his mind remained restless. He had walked the Finalizer’s corridors before, once as a nameless soldier, faceless among thousands. Now, he would return as a ghost of his former self, slipping between those same cold halls with a purpose that could no longer be stripped from him.Poe stepped back, placing one foot on the boarding ramp, his fingers tightening briefly around the metal frame as he glanced over his team. “Let’s bring her home.” The words were simple, but there was no mistaking the command in them.“Remember, the element of surprise is our biggest advantage,” Finn reminded the group. “Once we’re in, we stay sharp, move fast, and don’t give them the chance to react. If we get caught, we lose everything.” His gaze found Poe’s, a brief but silent exchange of understanding passing between them. There would be no second chances.Near the ship’s console, Rose ran one last diagnostic on her data pad. Her fingers moved swiftly over the controls, scanning for any errors in the cloaking system. She had checked it twice already, but certainty was a necessity, not a luxury.“The system is running perfectly,” she reported, her voice brisk as she straightened. “We’ll move like a shadow. Just stay close and trust the tech.” She allowed herself a brief, encouraging smile. “We’ve got this.”Beth stood slightly apart from the others, only half listening to their words. The other half of her mind was elsewhere, far beyond the hangar, beyond the star-speckled darkness stretching ahead of them. She reached for the presence she had known her entire life, the one as familiar to her as breathing. Mia.She and her sister had always shared something unexplainable, something that bound them even when galaxies separated them. Though she had never pursued serious training, she had learned enough to navigate the invisible thread between them. It had always been reassuring. Now, it only fed her fear. The connection was still there, strong, undeniable, but it carried with it a tightness that had never been there before. A tremor, a weight of distress. Mia was afraid.Poe turned toward her, catching something in her expression that made him gesture for the others to quiet. The hum of the hangar remained, a distant, mechanical backdrop, but within their small circle, silence settled.Clenching her fists, Beth drew in a steadying breath before she spoke. “I can feel her.” The words were soft, almost swallowed by the ambient noise around them, but the conviction in them was absolute. She met Poe’s gaze, her own brimming with fierceness. “She’s scared but she’s holding on. You know how strong she is, she won’t break so easily.”Their eyes locked, when Poe gave a small nod. “Then let’s not keep her waiting.”Without another word, they moved. The U-wing’s interior was dimly lit, the soft glow of control panels casting flickering patterns across the metallic walls. The hum of the ship’s systems filled the confined space, layered beneath the occasional flick of switches and the distant mechanical whir of the hangar doors retracting.Poe slid into the pilot’s seat with the fluidity of a man who belonged there, his hands already moving across the controls. Finn took position beside him, checking their approach vectors. Rose and Beth secured themselves in the back, strapping in for what they all knew would be a tense flight.Beyond the opening hangar doors, the endless stretch of space yawned before them, silent, waiting.Poe’s grip tightened on the throttle. “Strap in, folks, this ain’t a joyride.” His tone was steady, laced with that familiar mix of command and restless energy. “We go in like ghosts, take what we came for, and leave them wondering what the hell just happened.”Rose’s gaze flicked to the console in front of her, fingers running swiftly over the final diagnostic. Every calculation had been checked, but she still rechecked. This was too important to leave to assumptions. The cloaking technology was their best advantage, but it had to hold.“Everything’s running smooth. You fly, I’ll handle the tech,” she said, glancing up. A small, quick smile flickered across her face—not bravado, just a quiet promise that she had their backs. “Let’s make this count.”Beth closed her eyes. The voices around her faded, the ship’s low vibrations slipping into the background. She reached outward, past the cold metal walls, past the vast, empty void between them and their target. The Force had always connected her to Mia and it was the same this time. She was there, a presence, distant but bright, flickering like a flame battered by wind but unextinguished. Fear coiled at its edges, but beneath it, Mia remained. Her eyes opened, sharp and sure. “Hold on, Mia,” she whispered. “We’re coming.”Poe activated the cloaking system, and the ship shimmered, its structure bending into the surrounding darkness before vanishing entirely. The U-wing lifted off, slicing through the void, its silent movement swallowing any trace of its presence.A hush settled over the cockpit, the kind that needed no command to enforce. There was nothing left to say, no further preparations to make. Each of them knew the risks, understood the delicate balance between precision and disaster. The only sound was the quiet hum of the ship, steady beneath their hands, a fragile assurance against the vast uncertainty ahead.Time had stretched and blurred, hours slipping past in restless silence. Then, at last, the Finalizer emerged from the blackness, its form vast and unmoving, its presence swallowing the stars behind it. The ship lay before them like a void carved into space, its cold, angular hull reflecting only the faintest gleam from distant patrol beacons. They drifted closer, threading their way through the unseen web of its defences, unseen yet perilously exposed. The cloaking system held, shielding them from sensors, but it was no armour, only a veil, thin as mist, that could tear with the smallest misstep.Beyond the viewport, the warship loomed ever larger, an empire of steel and silence. No one moved. No one breathed beyond what was necessary. There was no turning back. Their course was set.***As morning light slipped through the blinds, Mia lay in bed, a swirl of emotions tugging at her. She glanced around the room—big, empty, and quiet, making her feel even more alone. The bed, too large for just her, seemed to mirror her restless thoughts. She sat up, her fingers exploring the luxury feel of the dark satin bedsheets, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. Her mind drifted to Poe, the man she thought she loved, and she sincerely wished that he was there beside her to comfort her, to rescue her from this new strange world of power and responsibility. The room was quiet, almost unnervingly so, but Kylo Ren’s presence still lingered in the faint trace of his scent. His voice, heavy with sadness, replayed in Mia’s mind. She could still feel the warmth of his touch, the way he had pulled her close, his breath soft against her skin. Every word he spoke carried a deep sorrow that stayed with her, pulling at her heart. As a tear slipped down her cheek, she swiftly dashed it away, feeling a deep sense of unhappiness and confusion. She couldn’t help but make comparisons between the feelings she experienced for Poe and the new intense emotions she had discovered with Kylo Ren and the realisation left her feeling torn and confused. In the quiet room with no one else to hear, she began to sing softly, her voice trembling with emotion:"In sleep he called to me,In stars he came,That voice which beckons me,And speaks my name. And do I dream again? For now I find,The Phantom of the Dark Side is there,Inside my mind."***Kylo Ren stood on the bridge of the Finalizer, his gaze trained on the vastness of space before him. The dark expanse was punctuated by the occasional swirl of TIE Fighters, their sleek forms darting past as they maintained the orbit of Dathomir. The hum of the bridge, filled with the soft beeps and murmurs of officers at their stations, was a familiar backdrop to his brooding thoughts.Suddenly, Kylo stirred out of his posture. A soft, delicate whisper reached his ear, filled with longing. Through the Force, he heard Mia's song, her voice a haunting melody that tugged at the corners of his mind. He turned slightly, as if to look back at her, his mask glinting in the reflection of the glass window. His heart, usually hardened by the darkness, felt a pang of something foreign. Was it sorrow? Longing? He couldn't tell but her voice, so pure and filled with emotion, resonated with him deeply. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, allowing her song to wash over him. Then, as if compelled by the connection they shared, he began to sing in reply, his deep voice carrying a commanding yet sorrowful tone:"Sing once again with me,Our strange duet.My power over you,Grows stronger yet.And though you turn from me,To glance behind,The Phantom of the Dark Side is there,Inside your mind."Mia:"Those who have seen your face,Draw back in fear.I am the mask you wear"Kylo:It’s me they hear.Mia:"Your spirit and my voice"Kylo:My spirit and your voice,In one, combined. The Phantom of the Dark Side is there,Mia:"Inside my mind."Kylo:"Inside your mind."As the final note drifted away, Kylo turned from the window, his mask concealing his face while his mind replayed their shared moment. Shaking it off, he refocused on the mission. Gathering the kyber crystals was crucial, and he waited for updates from his officers. With a deep breath, he pushed the lingering thoughts of Mia aside, focusing on the task before him. The fate of the First Order and the galaxy depended on the success of this mission, and he couldn't afford any distractions but even as he steeled himself, the echo of their duet lingered in his mind, a haunting reminder of the strange connection they shared. When a tear rolled down his cheek, unexpectedly and to his complete astonishment he caught it in the palm of his hand in wonder, before clenching his fist determined to not let emotions rule him.***Mia was suddenly overwhelmed by the emotion of the song they had just sung together in the Force; the intensity of her feelings frightened her. Kylo’s final line echoed in her mind, leaving her feeling more isolated and trapped than ever. How that had happened she couldn’t comprehend; she hadn’t seen him this time, just heard his voice. In spite of this, she became caught up in their duet, their voices harmonising and the words they sang were so personal, the sorrow and the longing in his voice, combined with her own uncertainties was suddenly too much to bear that she needed to escape. With the walls closing in on her, she felt she had to escape, somewhere. Anywhere else, away from his room and his bed.She found she missed Poe desperately, her heart aching with the desire to be back in his reassuring presence. She also worried about her mission and the critical plans she carried. Driven by her urgent need to escape, she rushed toward the door that sealed Kylo's quarters and with just a brief glance back, she stepped outside into the cold, sleek corridor she had walked with him when he brought her here the night before. She didn't know her way around this massive flagship, the Finalizer, but she knew she needed air to breathe and space to move. Her most urgent wish was to flee, to find a way to get away from here, to somehow get back to Dathomir or find a public transport that would return her to safety.Determined, she stepped into the turbolift and chose to move down one floor, hoping to get away from Kylo's personal quarters. She assumed the bridge and command area to be just below and not far from there, she hoped to find a way further down to the hangar, from where she would try to make her escape. As the lift descended, her mind raced. She wasn't going to let herself be pulled to the dark side, not by this fearful man, despite his hidden troubled soul. She knew the risks were high, but she also knew she couldn't stay here. The doors opened with a soft hiss, and she stepped out, her senses alert. The corridor she found herself in was bustling with activity, officers and crew members moving with purpose. She kept her head down, trying to appear inconspicuous as she navigated the labyrinthine passages. She was determined to find her way to the hangar and seize any opportunity to escape.Every step she took came with a swirl of nerves and determination. She couldn’t let Kylo’s tempting darkness pull her in. She had to stay strong, not just for herself, but for Poe, Beth, and the Resistance. Moving deeper into the heart of the Finalizer, she tightened her focus, ready for whatever was coming, her spirit holding firm.***Kylo Ren was alone, standing on the bridge of the Finalizer, the dim lighting casting sharp angles across his mask. The steady hum of the ship surrounded him, a familiar backdrop to his thoughts. Without turning, he sensed the flicker of energy as General Hux’s hologram materialized nearby, drawing his attention."Supreme Leader," Hux began, his voice clipped and efficient. "The indigenous lifeforms that had put up a fight have been defeated. Our stormtroopers are currently collecting the kyber crystals."Kylo's eyes narrowed. "When can I expect your return?"Shifting his posture, Hux straightened, lifting his chin. "It will be only a short time before we're ready to leave this sector, Supreme Leader."Before Kylo could respond, Captain Phasma's holographic image appeared next to Hux's. "Supreme Leader, an incoming signal has been detected on the intercom radar. Upon further inspection, there was no trace of the ship. It was likely it had moved to hyperspace to evade confrontation with the First Order. However, as it was on a direct confrontation course at first, I suggest we remain watchful and set all instruments to surveillance mode."Without hesitation, Kylo gave the affirmative order. "Proceed, Captain."As the intercom connection detached, Kylo looked up and over his shoulder, sensing a disturbance in the Force. "Mia...," he whispered, stepping away from the communication panel and towards the exit of the bridge. He gave orders for the Admiral to take the bridge in his absence, then left.her Force signature was vibrant and pulsating. He felt her unrest and sensed her wish to escape. He stopped, closed his eyes, and focused entirely on her. Then he knew where to find her. She had reached the hangar.Without hesitation, he took a shortcut to meet her there, arriving just in time to see her sneaking towards a TIE Silencer, his TIE Silencer. It pained him to see her wanting to leave. Stepping closer, he began to sing softly, his voice deep and resonating, rising with each verse:"Nighttime sharpens,Heightens each sensationDarkness wakes andStirs imaginationSilently, the sensesAbandon their defencesHelpless to resist the Force I wieldFor I compose the darkness of the nightHIs singing echoed in the hangar, each verse rising in volume as he moved towards her. He sang of night and sensations, his voice deep and resonant, drawing her in against the backdrop of distant stars and the hum of spacecraft. As he reached the line "Helpless to resist the Force I wield," he was close enough to touch her. With a sudden, smooth movement, he pulled her towards him, turning her around so that her back was firmly against his chest. They were now facing the same direction, her body pressed to his.Kylo continued to sing, the melody in his voice continuing to build as he rocked gently with Mia to the rhythm. His head rested against hers, creating an intimate cocoon amidst the cold expansiveness of the hangar. Mia, caught in the pull of his presence, leaned back against him with closed eyes, her defences slowly melting away under the dual assault of his voice and touch.Slowly,Gently,Night unfurls its splendourGrasp it,Sense it,Tremulous and tenderHearing is believing,Darkness is deceivingHard as sabre’s blade,Soft as starlit lightDare you trust the darkness of the night?Close your eyesFor your eyes will only tell the truthAnd the truth isn't what you want to seeIn the darkIt is easy to pretendThat the truth isWhat it ought to beSoftly,Deftly,Darkness shall caress youFeel it,Sense it,Let it possess youOpen up your mind,Let your fantasies unwindIn this darknessWhich you know you cannot fightAnd join me in the darkness of the ForceWithin the nightClose your eyesStart a journey to a strange new worldLeave all thoughts of the light you knew beforeClose your eyes and let darkness set you freeOnly then can you belong to meFloating, falling, sweet intoxicationAs he sang "Touch me, trust me," his hand slid down to grasp hers, lifting it to press firmly against the warm skin of his cheek. This act, infused with vulnerability and a plea for connection, startled her with its intensity. His touch was both a command and a supplication, urging her to feel the reality of him beyond the dark persona of the Supreme Leader.Continuing to sing, Kylo's lips ghosted over the sensitive skin of Mia's neck as he crooned, "savour each sensation." This gentle caress, barely there yet undeniably potent, sent a shiver through her body. It was a whisper of darkness and desire, meant to entwine her further into his world.Let the dream begin, let your darker side give inTo the power of the darkness that I wieldThe power of the darkness of the nightHis voice, now a soft murmur against her ear, carried the final words of the song, weaving a spell of darkness and seduction. You alone can make my darkness take flightHelp me wield the power of the night."His last syllables echoed in the hangar. Mia froze, her heart pounding as she turned to face him. His eyes, intense and compelling, met hers. She could feel the pull of his words, the magnetic force of his presence."Mia," he said softly, his voice a mixture of command and plea. "You cannot escape me."Overwhelmed by the sheer force of his power, Mia felt her world tilt and then fade to black. She fainted, her body going limp. Kylo caught her just in time, picking her up into his arms and holding her close against his chest. With a determined stride, he carried her out to a secluded terrace designed to safely simulate the experience of stepping into space.Kylo stood there, cradling her in his arms, the artificial atmosphere around them creating a serene and almost surreal environment. He watched her intently as she slowly began to stir, her eyes fluttering open to the sight of the vast, star-studded expanse beyond. As she regained consciousness, she found herself in Kylo's arms, the darkness of space surrounding them. She looked up at him, her mind a whirlwind of emotions and confusion. Kylo's gaze softened slightly, though the intensity remained."You cannot escape me, Mia," he repeated, his voice low and resonant. "But you do not need to fear. I will protect you."Her heart raced as she processed his words, the strange blend of fear and fascination tightening its grip on her.***As Mia awoke, she looked at him, listening to his words. The one eye of him she could see was intent on her, and he looked so approachable that without hesitation, she lifted her hand to touch his cheek. She watched him close his eyes, leaning into her touch. Her heart pounded as she dared to move further, singing softly:I remember there was mistSwirling mist upon a vast, starry voidThere were stars all aroundAnd through the void, there was a shipAnd in the ship, there was a manWho was that shape in the shadows?Whose is the face in the mask? Her fingers traced the edge of his mask, and with a sudden surge of courage, she removed it. The mask fell away, revealing the scarred, distorted half of his face. She gasped, her eyes wide with shock and compassion.Kylo's reaction was instantaneous. Abruptly, he placed her back on the floor, then stepped away, rage flooding his veins as he hid his injured face behind his hand. His voice thundered with threatening anger as he sang:Damn you!You little prying Jedi! You little seekerIs this what you wanted to see?Curse you!You little lying dreamer! You little light-bringerNow you cannot ever be free!He turned away, his voice breaking, the intensity of his emotions evident.Damn you!Curse you! Then, without turning back, he continued in a low voice full of plea and sadness:Stranger than you dreamt itCan you even dare to lookOr bear to think of me?This loathsome creature, who burns in darknessBut secretly yearns for lightSecretly… secretlyMia...Mia moved closer, circling around him until she stood in front of him. As she reached out to touch him again, Kylo grasped her shoulder, his grip firm but not harsh. His voice softened, filled with a desperate hope.Fear can turn to love, you'll learn to seeTo find the man behind the monsterThis repulsive figure, who seems a beastBut secretly dreams of beautySecretly… secretlyOh, Mia...She swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She reached up and gently touched his injured cheek. Kylo did not move, allowing her touch to linger. The tension between them was undeniable, a mix of fear, compassion, and an unspoken bond that connected their fates. As she touched him, she saw not just the scarred exterior, but the deeply wounded soul that yearned for understanding and acceptance. She searched his gaze, her hand remaining on his cheek. She felt the depth of his pain and the desperate need for connection hidden beneath his rage. Her voice rose with increasing volume as she sang:“Pitiful creature of darkness,What kind of life have you known,God gave me strength to show you,You are not alone.”With that, her heart pounding, she rose to her toes and kissed him. The kiss was gentle but filled with all the compassion and understanding she could offer. For a moment, time seemed to stand still as they shared this intimate connection, bridging the chasm of darkness and loneliness that had separated them. Kylo's rigid posture softened slightly, his barriers momentarily crumbling under the weight of her genuine warmth and acceptance. His breath caught as her lips met his. For a brief moment, he was overwhelmed by the warmth and sincerity of her kiss. The rage and sorrow that had filled him began to ebb away, replaced by a sensation he had long forgotten: hope. Slowly, he stepped back, his features softened as he studied her eyes, searching for the meaning behind her actions.Mia, her heart still pounding, gently returned his mask to him. He took it from her with a solemn nod, turning away to bring it back in place. The mask, once again hiding the scars that marked his face, felt like a necessary barrier against the vulnerability he had just shown. His voice, now a soft, low murmur, broke the silence. "Return to my private quarters. You'll be safe there. Nobody will harm you."She nodded, her eyes still locked on his. He held out his hand, and she took it, feeling the warmth and strength in his grip. As he turned to leave, his hand slowly slipped along hers until only their fingertips touched. There was a lingering moment, a silent communication of trust and understanding, before their fingers parted.Kylo watched her for a moment longer, then turned and walked away, his heart heavy but filled with a strange new sense of resolve. He had promised her safety, and he would keep that promise. As he strode through the corridors of the Finalizer, his thoughts were consumed with the implications of their connection and the delicate balance he now had to maintain between his duty to the First Order and his undeniable bond with Mia.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The galaxy trembles under the iron fist of the FIRST ORDER, led by the enigmatic and fearsome Supreme Leader KYLO REN. MIA, a brave RESISTANCE operative, finds herself torn between two powerful forces: her love for POE DAMERON and the dark, compelling connection she feels with Kylo Ren.Held captive on the formidable Finalizer, Mia's heart and mind are in turmoil. She yearns for Poe's comforting presence while grappling with the deep, haunting bond she shares with Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, the RESISTANCE has devised a daring plan to rescue her and retrieve the crucial construction plans she carries.Led by Poe Dameron, the rescue team is poised to infiltrate the Finalizer, overcoming the First Order's formidable defences. With Finn, Rose, and Beth by his side, Poe's determination to save Mia and thwart the First Order's sinister plans drives them forward. As the team prepares for their most perilous mission yet, the stage is set for a dramatic confrontation but will Mia choose her love for Poe or will she take the Hand Kylo Ren offers her?OOOThe U-wing glided down, ghostlike in the gloom, its cloaking tech humming faintly before silencing altogether as it touched the deck. The landing ramp hissed open. Poe Dameron led the charge, pulse pounding in his ears. His blaster stayed up, finger twitching near the trigger. Every step brought him closer to Mia, and the thought clawed at his chest, too late wasn’t an option.Harsh fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting erratic shadows that stretched and twisted with every movement. The docking bay reeked of oil and stale air. Poe’s boots scuffed through a shallow puddle, scattering ripples across the grimy floor. Somewhere distant, machinery clanked, a reminder this place still breathed under the weight of the First Order.Rose sprinted to a control console, her jacket brushing against rusted panels. Her fingers flew across the keys, movements precise, nerves hidden beneath layers of focus. The screen glowed back at her, data streams racing. "Security feeds are looping," she murmured, words nearly swallowed by the vast emptiness around them. Her glance darted to the entrance, breath hitching before she keyed the final override. "We’ve got a window. Not big, but it’ll do."Finn pressed himself against the wall beside the entrance, muscles taut. His gaze darted down the corridor, tension simmering under his skin. He shifted his grip on the blaster, knuckles whitening. This wasn’t his first infiltration, but the stakes? Mia changed everything. Beth mirrored his stance on the opposite side, calm but alert. Her breath slowed; eyes half-lidded. The Force wasn’t just a hum, it was a wildfire tonight. Her sister was close, flickering bright against the darkness smothering this place.Poe glanced back at the team. "Move. Now."They slipped through the corridor, footsteps echoing softer than the pounding in their chests. Overhead, pipes hissed with escaping steam. Walls closed in; each turn a gamble. Finn’s gaze swept corners before they cleared them, adrenaline and dread tangling with every breath.Beth’s steps faltered. "Left," she whispered, head tilting. Her eyes snapped open, urgency sparking. Poe didn’t question, just turned. With Rose’s deft work on the security systems completed, the team ventured into the winding passages of the massive Star Destroyer. The corridors stretched out before them in an endless succession of turns and intersections, their walls gleaming with an almost clinical brightness beneath the steady glow of overhead lights. There was a peculiar stillness to the place, broken only by the soft, rhythmic tap of their boots upon the polished floor and the faint mechanical hum that seemed to reverberate through the very structure of the ship.Poe took the lead, holding the schematics in one hand while his gaze darted between the map and the path ahead. His steps were quick but measured, as though hurrying would betray their presence more than any noise they might make. Finn remained close by, ever watchful, his eyes scanning each junction with a soldier’s instinctive caution. Beth followed, her grip on the blaster firm, her posture taut with readiness, while Rose trailed just behind, glancing occasionally at the device she carried to ensure the security feed remained under their control.Their journey was not without encounter. The first patrol appeared suddenly, a pair of stormtroopers rounding the corner with the indifferent gait of men accustomed to routine and untroubled by the thought of danger. There was no time for hesitation. Finn and Poe moved as one, a seamless coordination born of trust and experience. Two muffled shots, swift and precise, sent the troopers to the floor before they could fully register what had occurred. Without a word exchanged, Finn dragged one body into the narrow shadow of a maintenance alcove, Poe doing the same with the other, their movements quick but careful.Beth watched them closely, her breath held, the tension of readiness not yet released. Her gaze lingered on the empty corridor ahead, half-expecting another patrol to emerge, but none came. For the moment, at least, they were safe.Further on, their luck was tested again. A squad of four stormtroopers approached, their boots clattering a steady rhythm against the floor. Rose, calm amidst the growing unease, retrieved a small device from her belt and activated it. A faint pulse spread through the air, silent, invisible, disabling the enemy’s communications before any alarm could be raised. Beth did not wait for further instruction. She raised her blaster, eyes narrowing as she aimed. Four shots, each finding its mark with unerring accuracy. The soldiers crumpled, armour striking the metal with a hollow, dissonant clatter.Finn and Poe moved swiftly to secure the area, glancing down each adjoining hallway to ensure no stray eyes had witnessed the confrontation. Rose knelt beside one of the fallen soldiers, checking for any trace of transmitted signals. Finding none, she gave a small nod, and they pressed on.The ship seemed a labyrinth without end. Every corridor bore the same sterile uniformity, every junction a mirror of the last, as though the vessel itself sought to confuse and disorient. Yet Beth moved with certainty, an unseen connection guiding her steps. It was not a matter of maps or guesswork; she knew the way. Something deep within her reached out, pulling her forward with an insistence that defied logic. The others noticed, glancing to her for direction even as Poe consulted the schematics. Her path never wavered.Their silence deepened with each step, thick with purpose rather than fear. Mia was close, closer with every stride, every fleeting moment. The mission loomed over them, a constant presence, but it was the thought of her that sharpened their focus and strengthened their motivation. No door would bar their way, no enemy would stand between them and the one they sought to save.Onward they went, deeper into the centre of the Finalizer, where danger waited behind every corner, and time was a luxury they could not afford.Rose found herself quietly impressed by how seamlessly Beth had integrated into the team. It was no small thing to fit into a group that had been forged through shared dangers and countless missions, yet Beth moved alongside them as though she had always belonged there. Her precision with a blaster had already proven invaluable; those stormtroopers had barely registered the threat before her shots found their marks, quick and exact. There was no hesitation in her actions, no wasted movement. Rose, used to working with Finn and accustomed to the familiar rhythm they shared, noted how easily Beth adapted to their pace and tactics. It spoke of someone who understood urgency and the weight of what they risked.Falling into step behind Finn and Poe, Rose let her gaze sweep the corridor behind them, watchful for signs of pursuit. So far, they had slipped through the Finalizer’s patrols with a mixture of careful planning and quick reflexes, but luck was fickle. She kept her hand near her weapon, prepared for it to run out at any moment.Their immediate challenge was clear enough, Mia’s location. Knowing the ship’s layout only helped so much when you were searching for someone deliberately hidden away. With every turn, the corridors seemed to fold back on themselves, the ship’s architecture designed to confound those unfamiliar with its paths.Rose glanced at Poe. His usual easy manner had given way to something harder, more focused. There was determination in the set of his jaw, the measured way he scanned the corridor ahead. Lowering her voice to a whisper, she asked, “Do we know where exactly she’s being held? Like, in which cell, if she’s kept in a cell-block? And if not, how do we find her?”Poe’s gaze sharpened. He didn’t hesitate. “We find the Supreme Leader,” he murmured. “She’ll be there. Kylo Ren wouldn’t let her out of his reach, especially with her being Force-sensitive. He’d keep her close.”Rose nodded. It made sense, unsettling as it was to think of her under Ren’s watch. Still, knowing where to look and getting there were different matters entirely. She glanced up at the seemingly endless stretch of corridor before them. “And where exactly would Kylo Ren be on this ship?”“Top floor,” Finn replied. “His Supremacy. That’s where he controls everything, his quarters, command centre. That’s our destination.”They pressed on, keeping pace with one another as the Finalizer's corridors stretched endlessly, every turn mirroring the last. No one slowed. Somewhere above, Kylo Ren was out there—but thinking about him wouldn’t change the mission. They’d crossed the point of no return the moment they stepped off the U-wing; there was only forward now.***Kylo Ren stood alone on the bridge of the Finalizer, his posture rigid, arms folded tightly across his chest. Beyond the panoramic viewport stretched an endless sweep of stars, glinting like fragments of shattered glass scattered across a velvet black sky.Cold.Indifferent.He let his gaze drift over the vast emptiness, but the unrest stirring inside him refused to quiet. He felt it before the ship’s instruments confirmed it, the Resistance, edging closer. Their intent burned sharp and clear through the Force, a steady pulse that tugged at him. They were coming for Mia.His jaw tightened; lips pressed into a thin line. He admired their persistence, even if it grated at him. Loyalty like that, it was rare. Or perhaps it was just that he had long since severed that part of himself. Once, there had been a time when he would’ve fought with the same reckless devotion.Once.Around him, officers moved with brisk efficiency, issuing reports, fingers dancing over consoles that flickered with streams of data. The low hum of the ship’s systems filled the air, punctuated by the soft beeps of controls being adjusted. He heard none of it, not really. His focus turned inward, where thoughts clashed like blades. Duty to the First Order weighed against that undeniable pull toward Mia.He drew a slow breath and closed his eyes, shutting out the bustle of the bridge. Reaching with the Force was like stretching toward a distant warmth in a room grown cold. There, they blazed bright, the rescue team. Determined, reckless. Close. He could feel their resolve, like a knot pulled tight. No hesitation. No fear. His eyelids fluttered open, gaze sharp but far away. Mia’s face rose unbidden in his mind. Her eyes, steady, too perceptive for his comfort, lingered in his thoughts more often than he liked to admit. She had slipped through his defences when no one else could, peeling back layers he thought long buried. He could still feel the phantom warmth of her fingers on his scar, soft and deliberate, like she wasn’t afraid to touch what others turned from. And that kiss, he clenched his fists at the memory. It hadn’t been meant to happen but it had, sudden and fierce, like a spark in dry tinder. It left him caught between wanting to push her away and the maddening urge to pull her closer. She saw him, the man beneath the black robes, beneath the name Kylo Ren. The boy who once had dreams untouched by war and darkness. The man who, sometimes in the quietest hours, still wondered if redemption was more than just a story people told to soothe themselves. But this wasn’t the time for such thoughts. He straightened, gaze hardening as he looked out into the stars again. The Resistance would arrive soon. He would face them.Face her.Even if he wasn’t sure which part of him she would find when she did.Yet, this connection also brought pain. It was a constant reminder of the conflict that raged inside of him. He had chosen the path of the dark side, believing it to be his destiny but her presence made him question everything. She stirred feelings he had long buried, feelings of hope, of light, and of... redemption. The command deck buzzed with quiet efficiency, officers tapping at consoles, monitors flashing streams of data, the soft hum of engines thrumming beneath the floor.None of it touched him. The title weighed heavier than the black robes draped across his frame, Supreme Leader. Symbol of the First Order. Enforcer of its will. He was supposed to be the iron fist that crushed rebellion, the force that dragged the galaxy into line.So why did this feel like a fight with himself? His gaze wandered back to the viewport, where stars glittered across the darkness, cold and distant. Somewhere beyond that endless stretch, his enemies were closing in. He didn’t need instruments to tell him, the Force pulsed with their approach, sharp and insistent. Poe Dameron surged forward like a battering ram, fierce and relentless. Finn stayed close, stubborn as ever. Beth’s presence flickered with hope, bright enough to scrape against the shadows curling in his mind. They were coming for Mia.A flicker of conflict twisted through him. Let her go. Let them take her. It would be easier. Cleaner. And yet, his fingers curled into a fist, the thought of losing her clawed at him. She wasn’t just another piece on the board. She was the one person who looked at him, really looked, past the armour and titles. Past the anger. She saw what was left underneath. That terrified him almost as much as the idea of her leaving. Losing her wasn’t just losing a person, it was like losing the last thread tethering him to... something better. Or worse, losing the part of himself that still cared. He let out a breath, jaw clenched. Her emotions brushed against his awareness, raw and messy, mixing with his own. Fear, confusion, longing... they churned between them, twisting in ways that blurred the lines of where she ended and he began. Poe lingered in her heart, Kylo felt it, sharp and unwelcome, like pressing on a wound just to feel the pain. But there was more. Something knotted between them, strange and impossible to unravel. It defied reason, gnawing at him, pulling him in when he should have turned away.Minutes dragged, tension coiling tighter with every breath. He couldn’t afford to stand there, caught in his head. Not now. Turning sharply, his boots echoed across the deck as he faced his officers. His voice cut through the air, steady, authoritative, betraying none of the chaos inside. “Prepare for intrusion. Double security on all levels.”Heads dipped in acknowledgment, hands flying to controls. Orders relayed, protocols snapped into place. Efficiency was the First Order’s specialty. His worried mind had no place here. But as he turned back to the stars, the façade cracked. His eyes drifted shut. Her presence was a spark in the void, bright enough to make the darkness around him feel... thinner. Easier to breathe in. He didn’t think, just whispered, “Mia…”The name slipped out, soft, almost like a thought given voice.A plea? A warning? Both. Or neither.Supreme Leader.Destroyer of the Resistance. That was what they saw, a figure carved from darkness, unmoved and unyielding. Yet standing there, with the stars stretching out before him and her presence pulling at something buried deep, he felt the crack widen. One step anchored in shadow, the other edging toward a light he had no right to reach for. Mia had struck at a part of him he thought long gone, stirring embers that should have burned out years ago. And now? Now he wasn’t sure whether to reach for that faint glow or snuff it out before it caught fire.Time dragged. Silence pressed close. His fingers curled at his sides as he forced the mess of feelings back into the dark corners where they couldn’t claw at him. The Resistance was closing in. Choices loomed. And no matter how this played out, it was going to end. One way or another.***Mia sat in Kylo Ren’s quarters, hands clenched in her lap, nails digging into her palms. The room stretched wide around her, shadows pooling in the corners. Soft lighting flickered overhead, casting the metal walls in a muted glow that did little to chase away the chill. Silence pressed close, thick enough to make her shoulders tense. The bed beneath her was far too comfortable, the plush mattress doing nothing to ease the knot twisting in her chest. Why couldn’t she settle? She had what she thought she wanted, Kylo’s attention, his protection, yet satisfaction slipped through her fingers like sand. Her mind spun, thoughts crashing into each other. Poe’s face came to her first, warm eyes, that familiar half-grin that always made things feel a little less heavy.Little Mia, he used to call her, even when she’d outgrown the nickname. It should’ve been annoying, but it never was. His arms had been a place to fall into, steady and safe. He’d been there through everything, after her parents, after the bottom seemed to fall out of her world, offering jokes, comfort, whatever she needed. He didn’t just pull her from the darkness but he reminded her there was still light to stand in. Gods, how she wished he was here now. He’d know what to say. How to pull her out of this mess. But thinking of him only tangled her up more, because no matter how hard she tried to hold onto those memories, Kylo’s presence was a shadow she couldn’t shake. He was here. Not physically, yet she felt him all the same, like an invisible thread stretched taut between them. Every breath, every thought seemed to pull her closer to him when she should’ve been pushing away. It wasn’t just unsettling, it was maddening. The connection between them crawled under her skin, refused to be ignored. She rubbed her arms, goosebumps rising despite the warmth of the room. How could one person be both a comfort and a threat? How could she miss Poe’s embrace yet find herself thinking about the way Kylo’s gaze seemed to strip her bare, seeing parts of her she didn’t know existed? Her stomach twisted, guilt gnawing at her even as curiosity crept in.It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Yet here she was, caught in a tangle of loyalty, fear, and something else she couldn’t name.No matter how far she ran from it, Kylo was always there.Watching.Waiting.Impossible to forget.Their connection defied reason. It clawed at her, unsettling and unavoidable, yet it had twisted itself into something she wasn’t sure she could live without. Against her will, her thoughts drifted to those nights when his voice had slipped into her dreams, soft, dark, and laced with something that pulled her in despite herself. His melodies lingered long after waking, notes steeped in sorrow and warmth, weaving through her with a tenderness that caught her off guard. Poe had never stirred feelings like those, his comfort was familiar, safe. But this... this ignited something deeper, something she couldn’t explain, and part of her loathed how much she yearned for it.Then there was Kylo’s touch, firm, commanding but beneath that strength, she had felt flickers of something else. Fleeting, but real. Vulnerability. Pain. In those rare moments, she had glimpsed the man buried beneath the mask, the one who carried too many scars, some visible, others carved deep into places no one could see. That kiss still haunted her. It had come out of nowhere, a breath caught between conflict and yearning, and it left her spinning. How could someone so fearsome hold such softness? And why had she leaned into it instead of pulling away? Her mind churned. Every thought twisted into the next, impossible to untangle. The walls around her, cold and sterile, seemed to close in with every passing second.Pacing felt like the only option, her footsteps echoing against the polished floor. Fingers raked through her hair, trying to smooth the fraying edges of her thoughts, but nothing settled. She was trapped, not just by these walls but by the storm inside her soul. She felt drawn to Poe—the man who had stayed, offering steadiness and kindness without expecting anything back. His laugh echoed in her memory, a sound that seemed to ease the edges of the world, turning even her darkest days into something manageable. Being with him had been like finding solid ground after a long fall. Part of her longed for that simplicity, the safety he represented. And yet...Kylo saw her. Not just the surface, the parts everyone else knew, but the depths she kept hidden, even from herself. His darkness reached for hers, like two pieces that fit where they shouldn’t.It terrified her.It tempted her.Stopping by the window, she pressed her palm against the cool glass. Stars blinked beyond, scattered across the darkness like distant promises she couldn’t reach. The galaxy stretched vast and indifferent, offering no answers. Her breath fogged the surface as she leaned in, wishing, desperately, that she could break free of this mess. Poe’s face flickered in her mind’s eye, a tether pulling her back toward what she knew but no matter how hard she clung to those memories, Kylo’s presence wrapped around her like a shadow that refused to lift. Her fate had entwined with his. That much was clear. The door slid open with a soft hiss.A jolt ran through her. She didn’t need to look to know who stood there. The atmosphere thickened, charged with his presence, settling over her like an unseen force. Slowly, she turned.Kylo stood there, tall, imposing, robes sweeping the floor with every movement. The mask gave away nothing, yet she felt the tension radiating from him, filling the space between them. For a heartbeat, neither spoke. The galaxy outside seemed to vanish, leaving only this room, this moment. Her pulse thudded unevenly, and she hated that part of her wanted to close the distance between them even as her instincts screamed to run.Lifting her chin, she met the black gaze of his helmet that covered half his face. Her voice, when it came, carried more steel than she felt. She took a deep breath, before she sang, bitterness curling on her tongue, sharp and burning,"Have you satisfied your thirst for power at last?Am I now to be prey to your darker desires?"The words bounced off the walls, heavy with accusation and layered with emotions she refused to name. Anger and confusion twisted through her, tension tightening every muscle. Her fingers flexed, seeking an outlet that wouldn’t come. And still... despite the fire in her voice, part of her braced for what would follow, dread simmering beneath her skin, though it wasn’t dread alone. He stood unmoving, letting the silence stretch, thick and suffocating. The room seemed caught in a pause that refused to break. His gaze held hers—sharp, unwavering, locking her in place.Without a word, he moved.Slow.Purposeful.Circling her like a predator assessing its prey. Each step echoed faintly against the metal floor, the sound measured, precise. The space between them seemed to close with every pass, the walls drawing in, shrinking the world down to just the two of them.Mia’s pulse quickened. Her eyes tracked him, drawn to the fluid way he moved, controlled, dangerous. She should have stepped back. Should have spoken but she stood rooted to the spot, caught between fear and something she refused to name. Then his voice broke the silence, low, rich, cutting through the stillness like a blade slipping into flesh. He began to sing, the words curling around her, a haunting melody that filled the dim room with an unsettling beauty:"That fate which binds me to the darkness,Has also denied me the peace of the light..."His voice carried sorrow, dark and raw, yet there was a pull in it, a warmth buried deep beneath the layers of pain. Her breath caught. The lyrics wrapped around her like a fog she couldn’t escape, lingering long after the notes passed her ears.Kylo’s steps never faltered. He moved in that slow circle, gaze anchored to hers, eyes burning with an emotion she couldn’t place. The room seemed to pulse with it, shadows stretching and shifting with every note he sang."This face, the scar that separates us...This face, which earned a father’s disappointment..."He paused, lifting his fingers to the edge of his mask, tracing its lines with a softness that clashed with the tension radiating from him. His movements were subtle, yet each carried layers of regret and bitterness, pride entwined with old wounds.Mia’s stomach knotted. Her gaze shifted, torn between looking away and holding it, but his voice pulled at her, low, raw, difficult to ignore. His sorrow was plain, carried in every word, every note. And she felt it, not just heard it, deep enough to unsettle her in ways she hadn’t expected. He began to pace again, steps measured and controlled. Light flickered with his movement, casting long shadows that stretched and crept along the floor, narrowing the room until the world beyond him seemed to vanish. His gaze caught hers, sharp and intent. It held a pull she couldn’t shake, dangerous, but layered with an honesty that left her breathless. Her arms stiffened at her sides, fingers curling into the fabric of her pants. Heat flushed through her, nerves sparking beneath her skin. Every instinct urged her to back away, to put distance between them, but she stood rooted to the spot, caught by the pull of his voice, the gravity of his presence. Why couldn’t she move? She didn’t know. She only knew she couldn’t look away. His gaze never wavered. He continued to circle her, movements smooth but carrying an intensity that coiled tighter with each pass. The air between them thickened, stretching taut as if the space itself held a breath neither of them dared to release. His boots echoed faintly on the floor, the sound drawing out like a metronome counting down to something inevitable. Shadows cast by the dim lights overhead stretched across the walls, flickering as if stirred by the undercurrent that seemed to pulse between them. Then his voice came again, quieter, yet edged with a danger that sent a rush of heat through her veins. The sound carried a strange quality, eerie enough to raise goosebumps along her skin. His words drifted through the room, threading through the silence and leaving a chill in their wake."A mask, my first unfeeling shield of protection...Pity comes too late, turn around and face your fate:An eternity of this before your eyes!"His voice poured into the lyrics, raw and jagged, striking deep in her chest. Each note carried vulnerability tangled with rage—pure, fierce, and relentless. The sound slipped past her defences, cutting deeper than she expected, sharp enough to hurt. Her pulse quickened, uneven. These weren’t just words. They were a threat. Yet beneath the danger lay an unsettling honesty. He was exposing himself, layer by layer, drawing her into the depths with him, daring her to look.He stopped in front of her, close enough that she could feel the faint warmth radiating off him. Her breath caught. His face hovered mere inches from hers, the mask reflecting the muted lights, casting fractured glints into her vision. His presence washed over her, vast and consuming, swallowing up everything beyond this moment. Her gaze lifted to his, drawn to the sliver of him visible beneath the edge of his hood. His eye, dark, intense, searched hers with a weight that made her stomach twist. There was a question there. No words, but a need so raw it clawed at her:Do you see me?Can you understand this? Can you understand me?Silence stretched through the room, thick enough to press against her skin. Words hovered on her tongue, movement tempted her limbs, but whatever tether existed between them kept her rooted. A strange pull, electric and insistent, held her fast. He’s dangerous. Her mind knew it. But another part of her... wasn’t so sure. And yet, past the menace, beyond the darkness, she caught a glimmer. Not bright, not obvious, but still there: something battered but not gone. It lingered in his gaze, faint but refusing to fade. Her lips parted. Hesitation gripped her for a beat longer before her voice emerged, unsteady at first. Then the words came, carrying a tremor she hadn’t realized had taken hold of her."This scarred face holds no terror for me now...It's in your soul that the true darkness lies..."The melody slipped between them, soft yet powerful, brushing against the rough edges of what he’d revealed. Her voice echoed against the walls, filling the space with a warmth that pushed back the chill lingering in the air.His gaze shifted, the hard edges softening as a fleeting trace of hope flickered across his face, brief, almost fragile. For a breathless moment, the space between them brimmed with something neither of them could voice. Mia felt it, the silent tug that pulled at both of them. Her compassion reached for him, wrapping around that spark inside him, offering warmth where coldness had long ruled. She saw the conflict twisting beneath the surface, the man caught between the pull of darkness and the faintest glimpse of something beyond it.When he finally spoke, his voice came as little more than a murmur, rough, edged and low. There was a vulnerability in it that caught her off guard.“Mia... you don’t understand,” he murmured, gaze dipping as if ashamed to meet hers. “The darkness... it’s all I’ve ever known. How can you look past that?”Her chest tightened. She didn’t hesitate. Stepping forward, she reached up, fingertips brushing against the edge of his mask. He stiffened, but she didn’t falter. With slow, careful movements, she lifted it away, revealing the face beneath, the face few ever saw. His eyes darted to hers, wary, like a man waiting for the inevitable recoil. But it didn’t come. Her touch didn’t stop at the mask. Her palm, warm and soft, found his cheek. His skin was cooler than she expected, marred by the scar that traced down from his brow, yet she held him as if it wasn’t there. Her body closed the distance, bringing them so close her breath mingled with his. Her voice dropped to a whisper, soft, intimate.“Because I believe you’re more than that,” she murmured. “I see you, Kylo. Not the mask. Not the darkness. You. The man who wants something else... even if you’re afraid to reach for it.”His breath hitched. His shoulders, always so rigid, braced for impact, shook with the effort of holding himself together. Her words, her touch, it chipped away at walls he’d spent years building. Walls meant to keep people out. Meant to keep himself in.And yet... she pressed closer. Her lips brushed his scar, gentle, tender in a way he didn’t know how to process. His eyes slipped shut. The warmth of her touch seeped into him, tugging loose emotions he thought long dead. It was terrifying. It was freeing. For the first time in longer than he cared to remember... hope didn’t feel like a lie.But beyond this fragile moment, reality waited. The world outside, merciless, demanding, loomed closer with every passing second. Choices still had to be made. Consequences still hung over them both. And he knew this spark of warmth, this fleeting breath of peace... might not survive what came next. His chest heaved with a shaky breath as he opened his eyes, the fragile warmth of the moment dissolving like mist under a harsh sun. He stepped back, tension coiling through his frame. A shift in the atmosphere pulled at his senses, sharp, urgent.Someone was here. Not just anyone. Someone whose will burned hot, fierce enough to pierce through the walls around him.A second later, the door slid open with a jarring hiss. The Resistance team poured in, weapons drawn, focus sharp. Leading them, of course, was Poe Dameron. The man’s gaze locked onto Kylo with unwavering purpose, blaster already levelled, stance rigid with resolve.Kylo’s lips curled into a smirk, dark amusement flickering across his face. His voice slipped into song, smooth, biting, a melody threaded with anticipation and mockery:"Wait! I sense, my dear, we have a guest!Poe Dameron, this is indeed an unexpected delight!I had rather hoped that you would come. And now my wish comes true, you have truly made my night!"Poe didn’t flinch. His jaw tightened, eyes burning with anger that needed no words. He took a step forward, the muzzle of his blaster unwavering.“Let her go, Kylo. This ends now.”Mia’s chest tightened at the sight of Poe, relief flooding through her, quick and overwhelming. But fear followed close behind, curling in her stomach. She took a step toward him, drawn to the reassurance his presence offered, but Kylo... Kylo hadn’t moved. His closeness pulled at her like an unseen force, dense and impossible to shake. Her legs wouldn’t respond. Her body held still, caught in place. The atmosphere thickened, a charge sparking in the space around them, sharp and impossible to ignore. Every glance felt sharper, every second stretched thin.Kylo’s smirk wavered. Bitterness seeped in, darkening his features. When he spoke, his voice slid through the silence, low, sharp, laced with fury, each word bouncing off the walls like a spell wrapping the room in its grasp.“You think you can take her from me?”His presence swelled, oppressive and suffocating. The Force coiled around him, thick and charged, rippling through the room in waves that pressed against skin and bone.Poe’s grip on his blaster tightened, but even he felt it, the hum of dark energy rising, anger given form.Kylo took a step closer. His gaze, first cold and distant, now blazed with something fierce, anger, desperation, and something more dangerous still: need.Mia’s breath caught in her throat. Poe stood his ground, but the air between them all seemed to vibrate, stretched taut by the clash of emotions and power swirling in that confined space. Words hung unsaid. Choices loomed. And the storm brewing in Kylo Ren showed no sign of breaking."You, who know so little of the dark?"His tone was filled with a bitter mockery, a challenge that spoke to the depths of his own suffering. He stepped even closer, his figure towering over Poe, who struggled to stand his ground despite the invisible grip around his throat."Do you believe you can save her,When it's her light that has left the mark?"His voice softened, words catching on the edge of breaking as he spoke those final lines. His gaze drifted to her, sorrow and longing flickering across his face. The question hung there, not aimed at Poe alone but echoing back at himself, exposing fears he rarely allowed to surface.Silence followed, stretching out as Kylo’s words seemed to linger like an unwelcome shadow, a reminder of the darkness he clung to and the light that always seemed just beyond reach.Poe’s fingers tightened around his blaster. “Mia,” he called, voice firm. “Come on. We’re leaving.”Her stomach twisted. The man before her stood caught between two worlds, torn by choices that ran deeper than either of them could fully grasp. Their paths had crossed for reasons she didn’t entirely understand, but she knew this wasn’t just about her escape. This was his crossroads too.Her gaze shifted between them. Poe’s presence called to her, a promise of safety, of clarity. But Kylo... Kylo held her with that pull she still couldn’t explain, the strange bond neither of them had asked for but couldn’t deny. Her feet felt heavy as she took a small, uncertain step toward the man she held dear, her voice breaking the stillness, trembling as she spoke."Poe, I... I don't know what to do."Kylo's eyes flashed with a mixture of anger and pain. He reached out, his voice a commanding whisper. "Mia, stay. You don't understand what you're doing."Poe's expression hardened; his determination unwavering. "She understands perfectly, Kylo. She's choosing the light." His finger shook on the trigger of his blaster, barely keeping his anger and fear in check. His voice rose in a plea, filled with desperation and determination:"Free her!Do what you like only free her!Have you no pity?"Kylo's gaze shifted, his eyes narrowing as he took in Poe's fervent plea. There was a moment of silence, the weight of the confrontation hanging heavily in the air. Poe's words seemed to pierce through the armour of Kylo's resolve, striking at something deeper inside of him.Mia stood still, caught in place, a deep ache pulling at her for both men. Kylo turned toward her, and in his eyes, she saw it, the clash of opposing forces. Darkness pulled at him, fierce and consuming, yet a faint trace of light lingered beneath it, fragile but refusing to fade."Your lover makes a passionate plea!"Poe's voice was filled with raw emotion, his desperation evident."I love her!Does that mean nothing?I love her!Show some compassion..."Kylo's face twisted with a mix of anger and sorrow as he responded, his voice filled with the bitterness of his own experiences."The world showed no compassion to me!"Mia's eyes filled with tears as she took a step forward, her voice pleading with both men to understand the depth of her emotions."Please, Poe, it's useless! He won't let me go..."Kylo's expression darkened, and with a swift motion of his hand, he used the Force to choke Poe. Poe's eyes widened in shock, his hand instinctively going to his throat as he struggled for air. Kylo's expression softened for a moment as he looked at Mia, his voice a low murmur."You don't understand, Poe. You can't take her from me. She's bound to me in ways you can't comprehend."Poe's eyes flashed with anger, while desperate for air as he managed to choke out."Bound to you? You mean imprisoned by you. Mia, you don't have to stay here. You have a choice."A charged stillness filled the room as the three stood locked in a wordless standoff. Kylo’s hand clenched briefly before he let go, and Poe dropped to the floor, drawing in a ragged breath.Conflicting emotions twisted through Mia, her loyalty to Poe clashing with the strange connection that tethered her to Kylo. She took a step toward him, hesitation flickering in her eyes. When she spoke, her voice quivered but held firm."Kylo, let me go. You don't have to do this. There's still a chance for you to choose the light."His face contorted with inner turmoil, his emotions raw and exposed. For a moment, it seemed like he might relent, but then the darkness surged within him, and he steeled himself once more."You can't save me, Mia. No one can."Poe, regaining his breath, stood up and took a step forward, his eyes locked on Mia. "Come on, Mia. We're leaving."She took a step toward Poe, tension crackling beneath her skin, her body taut with restless energy. But before she reached him, something pulled her back. She turned to Kylo, her gaze softening, sorrow and understanding flickering in her eyes. Slowly, she lifted her hand, fingers brushing against his cheek. His skin, warm beneath her touch, trembled under her fingertips."Kylo," she whispered, her voice gentle but unwavering. "You don’t have to be alone. You can still choose the light."His mask of anger cracked for a brief moment, a flicker of vulnerability crossing his face but he quickly hardened his expression, turning away."Go, Mia. Before I change my mind."Poe and Mia hurried out of the room, the rest of the team following closely behind. As they made their way back through the labyrinthine corridors of the Finalizer, Mia couldn't shake the image of Kylo's tortured gaze. She knew this was not the end, but a new beginning for all of them.As the team boarded the U-wing and prepared for take-off, Poe glanced at Mia, a flicker of relief and warmth softening his features. "We did it," he said, a small smile breaking through the tension still clinging to him. "You’re safe now."She gave a faint nod, unease settling over her like a heavy cloak. "Thank you, for everything."The engines hummed louder, vibrations thrumming through the floor beneath her feet as the ship lifted away from the Finalizer. She turned toward the viewport, gaze drawn back to the looming star destroyer shrinking into the void. He wasn’t there, she couldn’t see him. Yet something lingered. A pull at the edge of her awareness, faint but persistent. A shadow trailing after her thoughts, refusing to be left behind.Kylo Ren stood at the bridge’s wide viewport, eyes locked on the expanse beyond as the Resistance vessel dwindled into the darkness. His gaze never wavered, though every part of him reached after Mia, the emptiness left in her absence cutting deeper than any wound he’d known. His hand slipped into his pocket, fingertips brushing the familiar contours of his mask, the cool surface grounding and foreign all at once. Drawing it out, he let it rest in his palm, eyes tracing every line and scar etched into its surface. It was more than a tool, it was a piece of him.A shield.A prison.A reminder. He stood still, emotions churning beneath the calm exterior like a storm beneath glass. His grip tightened. Slowly, almost reluctantly, he raised the mask and fit it over the scarred half of his face. The weight of it settled in, familiar and suffocating. The man beneath vanished; the mask remained. The silence stretched, thick and unbroken—until his voice cut through it. Low, rough, laced with sorrow that clung to every note. Yet beneath it, something else stirred, a spark that refused to die, no matter how much darkness he wrapped himself in.And so he sang. You have shown me freedomPulled me out of my nightmareBut now you left me behindTo follow your own heartAnd mine is now brokenShattered beyond repairWhat's left is just a shadowAnd a soul filled with despairKylo's voice resonated through the empty bridge, the words echoing his deep sense of loss and betrayal. He felt the sting of Mia's absence, the void she had left behind a constant reminder of what he could never have.Poe Dameron took you awayBut there's a price to payI honour your dare,Pilot, but you must be awareThis will end in a fightNever enrage the phantom of the nightHis voice rose with a mix of anger and resolve, the darkness within him surging once more. His eyes burned with a fierce intensity as he stared out into the void, his heart set on reclaiming what he believed was his. The phantom of the dark side, cloaked in sorrow and rage, was not yet defeated. The battle for Mia, for his soul, was far from over.As the final notes of his song faded, Kylo turned from the window, his expression sharpening with renewed purpose. The hollow ache inside him drove him forward, pushing aside doubt. He wouldn’t stop, not until Mia was with him again, not until he silenced the conflict tearing at his thoughts. The galaxy would be aware of the might of the phantom of the night.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The galaxy is caught in a fierce battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Supreme Leader KYLO REN, both mysterious and troubled, rules his fleet with total control, hiding his pain and anger behind a mask. Among the Resistance, a young woman named MIA shares a rare connection with him through the Force, a bond that disturbs her dreams and lingers in her thoughts.Rescued from the clutches of the First Order by her brave lover, POE DAMERON, Mia finds herself back in the safety of the Resistance Base. Yet, the encounter with Kylo Ren has left a deep imprint on her soul. Despite being surrounded by friends and allies, Mia is plagued by fitful dreams, where she hears the Supreme Leader’s heart-wrenching songs of sorrow and loneliness. Her heart aches for him, torn between her compassion and her loyalty to the Resistance. In the midst of her inner conflict, the Resistance uncovers a devastating threat. The crucial plans she was entrusted with have revealed the FIRST ORDER's sinister project: the construction of 2,000 Star Destroyers, each armed with a planet-destroying weapon powered by kyber crystals from Dathomir. ROSE TICO’s intelligence confirms the worst: one of these deadly cannons has already been installed on the FINALIZER, one of the First Order’s flagship destroyers.General LEIA ORGANA, the steadfast leader of the Resistance, is shaken to her core. The memories of Alderaan's destruction come flooding back, now compounded by the knowledge that her own son, Kylo Ren, holds the power to unleash similar devastation. This realization lingers in her mind, leaving her torn between doubt and hope. She holds on to the idea that somewhere beneath Kylo Ren’s dark exterior, a trace of BEN SOLO, the boy she once knew, might still be there. As the Resistance braces for a potential onslaught, Mia stands at a crossroads. Her connection to Kylo Ren and her duty to the Resistance pull her in conflicting directions. She must navigate this complex web of emotions and duty to find a path forward, one that might offer a glimmer of hope for both the galaxy and the man behind the mask. With the stakes higher than ever, the Resistance prepares for what could be its final battle. The fate of countless worlds hangs in the balance, and the actions of a few brave individuals will determine the galaxy's future. Amidst this crisis, Mia's journey of love, sorrow, and defiance unfolds, as she strives to bring light to the darkness threatening to consume them all.OOOOOOFootsteps approached, quick, measured, breaking the stillness of the bridge. General Hux came to a halt nearby, posture as precise as ever, as if carved from the ship’s cold steel. His hands rested behind his back; chin lifted just enough to signal his usual brand of smugness.“Supreme Leader,” he began, words clipped and dry, “the main weapon is installed and fully operational. We await your choice of target.”Silence followed. Not out of hesitation, at least, not the kind anyone could see. Kylo kept his gaze on the stars stretching beyond the viewport. They scattered across the darkness, distant sparks too far away to care about fleets, weapons, or empires. A single word from him, and worlds would fall. Easy. Too easy. What was the point of crushing things just because you could?Eventually, his voice broke through the quiet. “How far along is the construction behind Exegol?”“Swiftly progressing,” Hux replied, tone as devoid of warmth as ever. “One-third of the fleet stands ready. The remainder will be completed in three months.”Kylo barely acknowledged him, just a small nod, barely there. Then a flick of his fingers sent Hux away. Without argument, the general turned on his heel and strode off, every movement as calculated as his words.Alone again, Kylo let the quiet stretch. Officers below continued their work, their voices murmuring through the open space, blending with the steady hum of the ship’s core. Screens glowed with streams of data, commands relayed in hushed tones. Outside, the galaxy sprawled on, cold and vast, the stars blinking back at him like they knew just how small everything was.Dathomir was long behind them. The Empire Star System lay ahead, marked and waiting for his command. His hand hovered over the console, the action as familiar as breathing, and just as thoughtless. Destroying planets had become routine. Another day. Another obliterated piece of the galaxy but now, his fingers hesitated, curling back. Why? Maybe it was that emptiness again, the kind no fleet or weapon could fill.It hadn’t always been this way. There had been a time, distant as those stars, when he thought he was fighting for unity, stripping away names, family, everything soft and breakable. He thought if he cut away enough of himself, clarity would take its place. Instead, Snoke had filled the space left behind, whispering promises that turned into commands. Build. Conquer. Obliterate. Starkiller Base had been Snoke’s masterpiece, Kylo just the blade to carry it out.A gloved hand rose to his face. The mask, cool on his skin, felt heavier than it used to. He pulled it off, air brushing against the scar that cut across his skin. The fight’s mark. Not just the wound that was left, but the echo of it — the question the blade had asked without words. He should have died in that fight. Part of him wished he had. The explosion came minutes after the fight, but medics had dragged him from the rubble, patching up bones and sealing skin. Machines had filled the gaps where flesh was lost with tissue, silicon, but they couldn’t touch what still throbbed beneath.Months went by, and that ache never left him.Regret. Anger. Nothingness.Until one night, when the darkness wasn’t empty anymore. He hadn’t been searching for anything, just sinking deeper into the Force, letting it swallow him whole, when a voice found him. Soft. Sad. A melody that caught his grief like a hand reaching through the dark. Mia. At first, she was a distant sound, a flicker he thought he’d imagined but she stayed. Her sadness matched his, notes intertwining until the silence wasn’t so suffocating. Now, standing on the bridge with the stars stretched far and cold beyond the glass, it was that memory that gripped him, not the fleet reports or the rows of ships waiting for his orders. Her absence dug deeper than any strategic delay. Conquest felt hollow. Revenge? Even emptier. What lingered was her. The connection they’d forged. The pull he couldn’t sever no matter how many planets burned. And so, with an entire armada poised at his fingertips, Kylo stood still, Supreme Leader in title, commander of fearsome power, and all he wanted, in that quiet moment, was to stop feeling alone.***The Resistance base buzzed with restless energy, voices raised in heated discussions, footsteps quick across metal floors, and screens flashing with urgent updates. News of the First Order’s fleet, and the deadly new weapon that accompanied it, had sent a wave of dread through every corridor. Leaders huddled in private rooms, their words clipped, their faces drawn as they pored over plans and possibilities. Everyone knew the truth: a demonstration of that power was inevitable. The question was only when. However, far from the strategizing and chaos, Mia sat apart. The noise, the movement, it all blurred at the edges, like a distant storm she could see but no longer feel. Her room was quiet, the hum of the base muffled by closed doors and thick walls. She sat by the window, knees drawn up, gaze fixed on the stars beyond the glass. They glittered cold and remote; a vast canvas she couldn’t reach no matter how long she stared. Her thoughts refused to settle. Kylo. His name echoed through her mind with a pull she couldn’t shake. More than once, she’d closed her eyes, reaching out through the Force, hoping for a flicker of connection, just something to tell her he was there, that he heard her, but each attempt dissolved into silence. No warmth. No tug of recognition. Only emptiness... except at night, when his songs slipped into her thoughts, soft, sorrowful melodies that clung to the edges of her mind long after sleep had fled. His despair seeped into those notes, filling the quiet with an ache that wasn’t hers but felt like it could be.Her fingers drifted to the chain around her neck, cool metal pressing against her skin. She lifted the ring hanging from it, Poe’s ring, gleaming in the soft light. He’d given it to her with words that should have filled her with certainty. Love. Safety. A future. But as the metal turned slowly between her fingers, all she could think of were the consequences of her choices.Poe, her oldest friend, her constant. The boy who had made her laugh on the darkest days, the man who had stood by her through every battle. Her feelings for him were real, warm, familiar, undeniable. But Kylo... That connection was different. Fierce. Messy. Inescapable.A knock, soft, hesitant, pulled her from her thoughts.“Come in,” she murmured, barely above a whisper.Beth stepped inside, closing the door behind her with a quiet click. Concern flickered across her face, but her eyes were clear. She crossed the room without pause, sat beside Mia on the worn couch, and reached for her hand. Their fingers intertwined, the touch gentle, familiar, reassuring. “I can feel how stressed you are,” she softly murmured, her gaze searching Mia’s face. “You’ve been lost in your head for days, shutting everyone out. Poe... Finn... even Leia noticed but it’s me, Mia. Talk to me.”Her lips tugged into a faint smile, small but genuine, as Mia leaned into her sister’s warmth. They’d been each other’s anchor since Hosnian Prime, since the sky had burned, and their world had shattered. Beth had always been the voice pulling her back from the edge.“It’s complicated,” she whispered. Her eyes drifted back to the stars beyond the window. “He’s there, in my head. I feel his sorrow... like he’s reaching for me, and I can’t turn away from it.”Beth’s brow creased. Her grip tightened, protective. “Why let him in? He’s... he’s Kylo Ren, Mia. The galaxy’s most feared shadow.” Her voice broke, frustration tinged with disbelief. “And you feel sorry for him?”“He’s more than that,” Mia whispered.“Is he?” Beth’s tone sharpened, but she caught herself, breathing slowly. Her gaze dropped to the ring still in Mia’s hand. “Poe loves you,” she said gently. “He wants to build a future with you and here you are, torn up over him.”Mia’s shoulders sagged under the weight of that truth. “Poe’s love is... safe,” she admitted. “Warm. Easy to lean into.” Her fingers closed around the ring. “But Kylo... it’s like being pulled into a storm and wanting to stay in it.”Pressing her lips into a thin line, Beth shook her head, sorrow softening her anger. “He’s building weapons that can tear planets apart. You know what that means. Alderaan wasn’t just history; it was a warning. He will use that fleet.” Her voice cracked as she added, “You can’t ignore that.”Shaken, Mia flinched at the mention of Alderaan, guilt threading through her. Leia’s pain, the galaxy’s grief, was not something she took lightly.“I know what he’s capable of,” she whispered. Tears stung at the corners of her eyes. “But... I can’t not feel what I do. I wish I could.” Her voice broke. “But I... I love him.”Beth closed her eyes, heart breaking for her sister. “Mia...” Her fingers tightened once more before she sighed, shaking her head. “I just don’t want you to lose yourself in this.” Her voice softened. “We’ve lost too much already.”Silence settled between them, charged with emotions neither could quite define. Mia lowered her eyes, tears slipping free. Her gaze found the stars again, cold, distant, but still calling to her. “I’ll leave you to think,” her sister whispered, brushing a hand through Mia’s hair before rising. “Just remember, Poe’s here. Finn. Leia. Me. None of us are walking away from you.”At that, Mia offered a small, tearful smile. With one last squeeze of her sister’s hand, Beth stepped back, paused at the door, then slipped out, closing it softly behind her. Alone again, Mia let the silence settle around her, familiar and thick with thoughts of two men... and the choices she couldn’t make. She buried her face in her hands as tears finally fell. Her heart felt like a battlefield, pulled between the love she had for Poe and the undeniable connection she couldn’t shake with Kylo Ren.In her heart, she began to sing."In the quiet of the night, my heart begins to ache,Your voice, your touch, the memories awake.I miss the way you reach into my soul so deep,A longing in the darkness, in dreams where secrets keep.Oh, phantom of the shadows, why do you haunt my mind?In every whispered sorrow, it's your solace that I find.Your voice, your touch, they linger, a ghost within my dreams,In the quiet of the night, where nothing's as it seems.""Slowly, Gently, Night unfurls its splendourGrasp it, Sense it, Tremulous and tender..."***The shrill wail of alarms tore through the Resistance base, slicing through conversations and thoughts alike. Activity surged instantly. Chairs scraped against the floor; orders barked across corridors mingled with the pounding rush of boots. The air buzzed with urgency, familiar, yet no less jarring.Inside the conference room, bodies pressed in from every entrance, hurried but purposeful. The overhead lights flickered against worn metal walls, casting a sterile glow over grim faces. At the room’s centre stood Poe Dameron, shoulders squared, a holopad gripped in one hand. His gaze swept the gathering crowd, features drawn tight with focus.Seconds later, Mia slipped in with the others, sliding into a seat along the curved table. Her gaze found Poe’s across the distance, a brief exchange, one that softened the tension etched into his face for a fleeting second but then he turned, the moment gone, attention shifting back to the task at hand.“We’ve intercepted a transmission,” he began, voice cutting through the noise like a blade, “from the Finalizer to Chandrila.” His thumb tapped the holopad, and the device hummed to life. “Orders for the immediate evacuation of the First Order’s leadership stationed in the City of Glass.”A collective intake of breath rolled through the room. Conversations erupted, sharp, urgent. Questions overlapped, concern lacing every word. Poe raised a hand, and the murmurs dissolved into a tense hush. His jaw tightened as he tapped the device again. The projection flickered before sharpening into focus—tall, dark, and impossible to ignore. Kylo Ren took shape, the folds of his black robes shifting with each slight movement. His gloved hand tightened, the faint crackle of the hologram mirroring the tension that radiated from him. “All staff, ground officers, and admirals,” Kylo’s voice rolled out, low, commanding, filling every corner of the room. “Evacuate immediately. Board the Dominator, Ravager, and Obliterator. Rendezvous at outer orbit with the Finalizer. Do not delay.”Silence gripped the room as the hologram dissolved. For a moment, no one moved. No one breathed. The command hung there, like the shadow of something bigger, something too close for comfort.Mia’s eyes lingered on the empty space where Kylo’s image had been. That familiar pull tightened in her chest, conflict, connection, questions she wasn’t ready to ask herself. Not now.Poe’s eyes moved across the room, taking in the team’s faces—determined, uneasy, prepared. He shut off the holopad with a decisive click.“We don’t have time to stand around,” he gritted out through clenched teeth. “This is moving fast. Faster than we expected. Get to your stations. Now!”The room erupted into controlled chaos. Officers grabbed gear, calls rang out for pilots to prep ships, and chairs clattered as people pushed away from the table. Urgency fuelled every step.Hesitant, Mia remained seated for a heartbeat longer, thoughts racing. Kylo’s words still echoed in her mind, not just his orders, but the meaning behind them. There was always something beneath his surface, a struggle she felt more keenly than she wanted to admit.A movement pulled her from her thoughts. Poe knelt beside her, warm fingers sliding into hers. He pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles, a quiet reassurance.“I have to go,” he murmured, his eyes searching hers. Worry flickered there, mixed with something softer. “But it helps, knowing you’re here. Safe.”Words stuck in her throat. She managed a small nod, though her stomach twisted. He lifted a hand to her cheek, his fingers warm against her skin. His thumb traced a slow, familiar line along her face. Then, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek, gentle, lingering just long enough to say what words couldn’t.“Take care of yourself,” he whispered, his breath warm against her temple. Then he pulled away. The warmth of him lingered for a fleeting heartbeat before it slipped away entirely. By the time she opened her eyes, he was already halfway to the door, his stride quickening with the urgency waiting beyond. The door slid shut with a quiet hiss, sealing the space in his absence. Silence filled the room, heavy and immediate. It felt emptier without him, but not enough to still the thoughts spinning in her mind.Mia sat for a moment longer, Poe’s touch a fading warmth on her skin as her thoughts raced ahead, pulling her in too many directions. Stay behind, safe, like he wanted? The idea sat uneasily with her, wrong in a way she couldn’t ignore. Not when the fight was unfolding outside. Not when the choices being made out there would shape everything to come.Kylo.The evacuation. The decisions shifting by the second.Waiting here wasn’t an option. Not for her.She sighed, the breath catching in her chest before slipping free. Her chair slid back from the table, the sound lost beneath the distant wail of alarms and hurried footsteps echoing down the halls. Her fingers brushed the chain at her neck, lifting the ring Poe had placed there. The metal was cool against her skin, but warmth lingered beneath it, a trace of his touch, his words, everything left unsaid. A promise. A choice. One she wasn’t ready to face, but couldn’t ignore. The ring slipped beneath the fabric of her shirt, settling over her heart. She straightened, letting her eyes drift across the empty room one last time. There was nothing keeping her here. Her feet moved before doubt could catch up, each step faster than the last, towards the door, the chaos, the fight that wasn’t waiting for her but would take her in all the same.***The command deck of the Finalizer hummed with quiet activity. Officers focused on their tasks, though now and then, their eyes flicked toward the figure at the centre of the room. Kylo Ren stood before the massive viewport, his dark silhouette outlined against the endless stretch of stars. He wasn’t rushed, didn’t fidget, didn’t speak. However, his presence carried more weight than any order he could give. His eyes stayed fixed ahead as he spoke. “Set course for coordinates thirty-four point five-six-six-seven, negative eighty-five point two-five-zero-zero.” His tone was even, but there was no mistaking it for anything less than a command. At the navigation console, hands moved quickly over the controls but as the final sequence appeared on the display, the young officer hesitated. His head lifted, uncertainty creeping into his voice. “Chandrila, sir?”“Chandrila,” Kylo repeated, the name carrying through the room like a shift in the air. From the far side of the deck, General Hux approached with his usual precision, every step purposeful, every movement exact. He stopped beside the Supreme Leader, casting a brief glance at the glowing projection of the navigational charts."An interesting choice, Supreme Leader," he remarked, his tone edged with something just short of amusement. "Striking your own homeworld, there’s a certain... poetry in that."Kylo didn’t react, his gaze still locked on the stars beyond the viewport, their distant glow oblivious to the affairs of men and warships. "It’s a key stronghold," he replied after a moment. "Taking it out is both a tactical advantage and a necessary step forward." He let the words settle before adding, "There’s nothing left for me there."Hux gave a slight nod, not quite agreement, more an acknowledgment, before turning away, leaving Kylo alone with his thoughts.Beyond the viewport, the stars drifted on, unchanged and unconcerned, as the ship’s systems stirred to life. Soon, space itself would twist and pull them into hyperspeed, flinging them toward whatever came next.Twelve hours. That was all that remained before Chandrila filled the viewscreen.Twelve hours until that last tether was cut.Kylo turned from the bridge, moving through the corridors without a word. Crew members stepped aside as he passed, offering quick nods or hurried bows before returning to their work. No one lingered in his presence. No one tried to speak. And really, what was there left to say?His quarters, when he reached them, offered a brief escape from the watchful eyes and constant rhythm of duty. The door slid shut behind him, sealing him in a quiet that felt almost too thick, too complete. The space was as bare as ever, just the essentials. A narrow bunk, a small console, a chair beneath dim lighting. No decorations, no keepsakes, nothing to hint at the life that had existed before titles and commands. He removed his mask, setting it on the table with a dull thud. Its empty gaze stared back at him, as hollow as the silence around him. Free of the armour’s familiar weight, his shoulders sagged slightly as he sank onto the bench along the wall. Elbows on his knees, hands hanging loosely, fingers curling, not from strain, but from thought. The quiet stretched, familiar but never quite comfortable. His mind, despite its need for stillness, refused to comply. Memories surfaced, unbidden, slipping through the cracks he had tried to seal long ago. Chandrila. He could see it as it had once been, not through the eyes of a man who had long outgrown it, but through the memory of a boy. Green fields stretching toward the horizon, sunlit buildings catching the morning light just so, faces he had spent years trying to erase. And now, he was leading destruction straight to it.Then, a sound. Faint at first, so subtle it could have been imagined. But no. It lingered, threading through the silence like the first few notes of a song carried on a distant breeze.Mia.Her voice, gentle, distant, drifted through the Force, weaving into the quiet that moments before had seemed impenetrable. It was a feeling, a brush of warmth against the cold edges of his thoughts. Without meaning to, his eyes closed. He should resist it. Block it but the effort felt beyond him.The tune wove around him, not demanding his attention, merely offering it, like an outstretched hand he could take or ignore and in that small room, far from any battlefield, with warships poised for destruction and a galaxy turning ever onward, Kylo Ren allowed himself, for a moment, to listen. He closed his eyes and replied, his voice resonating through the connection they shared:"Faithless child, can you see me?In the shadows where I bide.Look at yourself in the mirror,Remember, you left me to his side."He reminded her of the choice she had made, leaving him willingly to be with Poe, her heart torn between her duty and their inexplicable bond.***Mia froze at the sound of Kylo Ren’s voice, once a source of warmth, now edged with cold disappointment. She missed his songs, his touch, the way he had once reached into her soul, stirring something deep within her. The ache in her chest tightened as she tried to explain, reaching for him through their connection. But words felt fragile, slipping through her grasp. So, she did the only thing she could, she sang, her plea trembling with emotion:"Darkened soul, can you hear me?In the shadows where you bide.I left not to betray you,But fearing you’d be lost in night. If the galaxy should conquer,And you choose not the light,I couldn’t bear to lose you,In this never-ending fight. Please, end this war, my phantom,Don't cause more sorrow’s tide. For this path will only break you,And tear you more inside."Her song held every ounce of her desperation, a fragile hope woven into each note. She reached for him, not just for Kylo Ren, but for whatever remained of Ben Solo, hoping her words would find him in the shadows. The Force bridged the distance between them, pulling their souls into focus. For a moment, they saw each other as they truly were.Kylo turned, his gaze carrying a silence that spoke more than words. He took a step closer, studying her face, the sadness in his eyes deep and unmistakable. Then, softly, he began to sing. His voice, low and aching, carried the sorrow neither of them could say aloud."What is my end to you? Why would you even care? You chose to give your heart to Poe and left me in despair. Here in the dark where my soul is imprisoned,No hope to ever escape, my true self forbidden.I'll wear the mask that conceals what once was light,And be the phantom of the dark side, a terror in the night.I seek my end in the darkness, to be free at last,From the pain that binds me, the shadows of my past."He stepped closer, reaching out his black-gloved hand, coming within close reach of her. Mia's eyes dropped to his hand, hesitantly reaching out for him, but he drew back before she could touch him."Leave me, Mia," he continued to sing, his voice barely above a whisper,"There is no light left in me; no hope left to see.Go and keep what little light there was,And bury it deep in thee."As the bond closed off, Mia gasped, a sob catching in her throat. This wasn’t just about Chandrila, Kylo was planning to end his own suffering, to break free from the darkness in the only way he saw possible. Her chest tightened. She couldn’t let this happen. She had to stop him.Pacing her room, she rubbed her arms in worry, trying to gather her thoughts. Then, she heard the intercom blare, announcing the immediate departure from the main hangar. The forces were about to leave. That's when she made her momentous decision. She began to sing, her voice trembling with determination and hope:"My Prince of darkness, my burdened, hurting phantom,You may think there's no way out, but I'll prove you wrong.I feel the light that glows inside you, not extinguished, not cold,It is still there, shining brightly, it means you're not gone."Resolute, Mia left her room and rushed to the hangar. Moving swiftly and unseen, she boarded the Millennium Falcon, hiding in the smuggler slots Kylo's father had installed many years ago. Her heart pounded with the urgency of her mission, determined to reach Kylo and show him the light still inside him.***Kylo Ren stood alone in his quarters, his choices settling over him like a shadow that refused to lift. His heart ached with a familiar mix of longing and despair. As the silence stretched around him, he began to sing, his voice carrying the sorrow and rawness he could no longer contain."In dreams I’ve seen a world where shadows cease to be,A place of light and balance, that’s never come to me.I’ve reached for stars uncounted, but they slip through my grasp,Each effort leaves me empty, alone in this dark mask.I’m unmoved by the power, a failure in their eyes,Rejected by the light, the dark in endless lies.I wish I’d never been here, to feel this endless night,To be a ghost in shadows, forever out of sight."His voice faltered as he whispered, a fragile hope tinged with pain:"I long for balance in my soul, a peace I’ve never known,And trust the light you hold for me will ever brightly glow."The silence in the room stretched, interrupted only by the fading echo of his song, as if the sound itself resisted fading away. Kylo sat motionless, his gaze distant, thoughts drifting to places he rarely allowed himself to go.A familiar ache settled deep inside him, not just loss, but the hollow feeling of a path that had never led where he thought it would. Balance had once seemed within reach, but it remained just as distant as ever. And still, beneath it all, a quiet flicker of hope refused to fade, no matter how much darkness tried to smother it.Time slipped by, unnoticed. Hours passed. The Finalizer cut through the darkness of space, its course set, its target drawing closer. Chandrila’s pale surface stretched beyond the viewport, recognizable, but distant in a way that stirred memories best left untouched.Beyond the planet, flashes of movement flickered against the stars. Resistance fighters, swift and determined, wove through the chaos, clashing with TIE squadrons pouring from the moon’s orbit. Ships twisted and spun in a violent rhythm, streaks of fire marking each collision, each loss.On the bridge, officers moved with sharp efficiency, voices crisp as they relayed orders and updates. Commands snapped through the air, merging with the low hum of systems and the distant tremors of battle beyond the hull. But none of it touched Kylo. He stood still, gaze locked on the planet below, his mind drawn elsewhere. What was that?A presence brushed against his thoughts, light but undeniable. Not a voice, not a whisper, just there. Familiar. Unexpected. Necessary. Mia.Her presence seeped through the cracks his armour couldn’t shield. Kylo. His name, carried on something warmer than he was prepared for, a plea that reached where nothing else could. His breath caught, fingers curling into fists. The command that had been on the verge of leaving him faltered, trapped between action and doubt, held back by a force he refused to name. And then she was there. The bridge hushed, officers frozen as their gazes flicked toward the figure standing among them, impossible but undeniable. Through the bond that linked them, Mia had stepped into the heart of the storm, leaving behind the safety of the Falcon. She stood firm in the chaos, her presence cutting through it like a flame that refused to dim.Her eyes locked onto his, searching, pulling at a thread that made the space between them feel impossibly small."Kylo."His name carried across the space, quiet but certain. It wasn’t forceful. It didn’t have to be. The emotion behind it filled the air, stretching across a connection neither had ever been able to sever."This isn’t who you are. You’re not the monster they say you are. There’s more to you than this. I see it. I feel it."No one moved. The low rumble of battle outside hummed against the walls, distant, unimportant in the silence that had taken hold of the bridge.Kylo’s mask, cold against his skin, felt more suffocating than ever. His hand lifted, hesitant, fingers twitching before he finally pulled it away, revealing eyes that burned, not with fury, but with something raw and unsettled. Not anger. Not certainty. Just pain. Her words had found their way into the cracks he thought had long been sealed."Mia..." His voice came rough, frayed at the edges. His gaze dropped for a brief moment before forcing itself back to hers."I have to do this." The words left him fractured, breaking in ways he hadn’t expected. "It’s the only way I know how to stop this. To end what’s inside me."She shook her head softly, sadness in her eyes, but it was the hope behind it, the belief she wouldn’t let go of, that hit him the hardest. The war raged outside, orders sat unspoken on his lips, but for that moment, none of it mattered. All that existed was the space between them, filled not with words, but with everything they had left unsaid for too long.***Poe Dameron and his squad were deep in the fight when the massive flagship suddenly tore into real space, emerging from hyper speed right in front of them. The sight of it stole the breath from his chest. Around him, the comms crackled with startled voices—his comrades had seen it too.The Star Destroyer loomed before them, impossibly huge. For a split second, doubt crept in, this was a suicide mission. There was no way they could stop it.Beneath the ship, the cannon came into view, its sheer size enough to send a chill through him. It was nearly as big as the Millennium Falcon, but unlike the familiar freighter, it wasn’t sleek or compact. It was built for destruction, bulky, imposing, and fully charged. The sheer power that cannon could unleash was enough to turn the tide of the battle or end it entirely. Poe clenched his fist, jaw tightening.Mia... I love you.He sent the thought out with everything he had, even if it was impossible for her to hear. He wasn’t Force-sensitive. He didn’t believe in magic or fate. He believed in his blaster, his instincts, and the strength in his own hands. But right now, none of that mattered. All he wanted was for her to know, somehow, that whatever happened next, he was doing this for her. To make sure she had a future. To make sure she was free. They had landed on Chandrila, doing everything they could to get as many people aboard as possible but they couldn’t save everyone. Some refused to leave, choosing to stand by their home no matter the cost.Poe’s chest tightened as he looked toward the Finalizer, the weight of what was coming pressing down on him. The odds were against them. Their numbers were too small, and the First Order’s firepower would tear through them before they even got close. And even if by some miracle they did, stopping that cannon from firing was nothing more than a desperate hope. But hope was all they had. They had to try.Poe's voice cut through the tension, firm and resolute. "All units, attention! Be ready. Once the cannon is activated, there is no hope left. We must immediately jump through hyperspace to ensure the safety of our passengers. Otherwise, we'll be turned to dust by the force of the exploding planet. It will erupt into a supernova if Kylo Ren activates the weapon."He took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the faces of his squad. "This is our moment. We fight not just for survival but for the freedom of everyone we hold dear. Do not falter. Do not hesitate. Give it everything you've got. May the Force be with us all."Poe’s voice lit a fire in his squad. Hands gripped controls tighter, eyes sharpened with focus. They all knew the odds, but that didn’t matter. They would fight with everything they had, for Mia, for Chandrila, for the galaxy.***Mia felt Kylo’s last words settle deep in her chest, their finality striking a chord of fear inside her. She reached for him, refusing to accept it.“No,” she said firmly, stepping closer. “You can’t. If you do this, you’ll throw away your only chance to find the balance you’re searching for.”Lifting her hand through the Force, she held it out to him. His gaze dropped to her palm, something flickering behind his eyes. He stepped forward, hesitating, reaching out until their hands were nearly touching, just the smallest space between them."I lost my parents, had no one,Overnight I had grown,Taking care of my sister,Feeling so alone. You were my angel of darkness,Your voice offered me hope,Now that you stand here before me,I can see a magical rope. You have felt lonely and empty,Not part of the light nor the dark,It's because we're a Dyad,Two that are one, a single spark."Her song flowed through the space between them, carrying a sense of understanding he hadn’t known in years. Kylo’s eyes softened, the storm inside him quieting as her words sank in.As her voice filled the bridge, their connection deepened, pulling at the part of him that had always searched for peace but never found it.His hand finally closed over hers, warmth spreading through him like a breath of air after too long underwater."Where can I find you?" he asked, his grip firm, eyes widening as the details of her surroundings became clear. He blinked, then narrowed his gaze, not letting go. "Chandrila?" Mia nodded.Kylo’s gaze snapped to the panel tracking the cannon’s activation, the countdown already in motion. His eyes locked onto hers."You need to leave. Now. I don’t know if I can stop this." His voice was sharp, urgent. "Why did you go there?"He turned abruptly, slamming his fist against the control panel. "Abort the mission!" he commanded, his voice cutting through the bridge. Officers scrambled to carry out his order. The moment their bond severed; urgency crashed into him like a tidal wave. When Hux demanded an explanation, Kylo shoved him aside without a second thought and stormed toward the hangar. "Ready my ship!" he barked. The bridge erupted into chaos, confusion rippling through the crew as they rushed to follow his command vut Kylo didn’t pause, his mind was fixed on one thing. He had to reach Mia before it was too late. His heart pounded, not just with fear of what he might lose, but with the hope that, together, they could stop this before it was irreversible.By the time he reached the hangar, his ship was already prepped. Without hesitation, he climbed into the cockpit, his focus razor-sharp. The engines roared to life, and within moments, he was tearing through space, racing toward Chandrila.***Above the planet, Poe’s gut twisted as the cannon powered up, its glow intensifying into an eerie green. It pulsed brighter with each passing second, each beat of his heart counting down to disaster. The weapon was live.Once it reached full charge, there would be no stopping it. No way to turn back. They had to get out, now.Grabbing his comm, Poe's voice rang out with urgency and authority. "All units, this is Commander Dameron. Mission abort! I repeat, mission abort! We need an immediate escape. Evacuate all civilians and prepare for hyperspace jump. Get everyone to safety! This is not a drill, move now!"The urgency in his voice spurred his comrades into action. Fighters and transports began their retreat, engines roaring as they raced against time. Poe's heart pounded with fear and determination, praying they could escape the impending doom in time.***General Hux stood rigid on the bridge, eyes narrowed at the command panel. "Continue the sequence," he ordered sharply. "Prepare to fire the cannon."An Admiral looked up, alarmed. "But sir, the Supreme Leader ordered a mission abort. He is about to land on the planet."Hux barked, "I will tolerate no debate! Execute the command immediately."The bridge fell silent as the crew processed his orders. Hux turned away, a sly grin spreading across his lips. Finally, the moment had come. He could rid himself of Kylo Ren once and for all and take his rightful place as Supreme Leader. The power he had craved was now within his grasp, and nothing would stand in his way.As Poe hammered in the coordinates for a safe jump through hyperspace, an incoming call flashed on his comm. He answered it quickly, hoping for good news, but Beth's voice trembled with urgency. "Poe, Mia has been reported missing. She's nowhere to be found. When we searched for her Force signature, it appears she is on the surface of Chandrila."Poe's heart almost stopped beating. He looked over his shoulder, his gaze fixed on the ominous green glow of the cannon, then dropping to the planet in its immediate target. "No..." he gasped. He quickly ordered the other ships to continue their procedures. "All units, proceed with the evacuation and jump to hyperspace as planned." But then he hesitated. On board the Falcon were sixteen passengers, all high-ranking personas crucial to the Resistance's efforts against the First Order. If he didn't make the jump to safety, their fate would be sealed. His mind raced, torn between duty and love. There was no way he could reach the surface, find Mia, and escape in time before the weapon unleashed its deadly beam. Desperation filled his voice as he whispered, "Mia, what have you done?"Kylo's shuttle landed on the sandy surface of Chandrila, close to where he had detected Mia's Force signature. The fuselage of the ship groaned under the pressure of the harsh touchdown, underlining the urgency with which Kylo disembarked, striding down the ramp with his cloak billowing behind him. His eyes searched the surroundings for the one who hadn’t given up on him, and then he saw her.Mia stood amidst a group of people, their faces lifted toward the sky dome, praying, some hugging tightly. He could hear their murmurs of disdain and fear, but his main focus was on her. She turned and met his gaze as he moved closer, her presence a beacon amidst the chaos.Their eyes locked, and in that moment, the urgency of their situation seemed to fade, leaving only the connection between them. Kylo moved through the crowd, his steps determined and unwavering, until he stood before Mia."Mia," he said, his voice both a question and a statement, filled with the weight of everything unspoken between them. She reached out, her hand trembling but resolute. "Kylo, we have to stop this. We cannot let the destruction happen."He frowned, then followed her gaze up into the sky where he saw the eerie glow of the green laser beam, indicating the impending release of the destructive bolt that would evaporate the planet. His eyes returned to hers, and he nodded."We have to act quickly," Kylo said, his voice firm. "I'll need your help to stop this."Mia was so relieved to hear his request, both for her friends' sake as well as their own. Here was Kylo Ren joining in the race to save the planet and innocent lives instead of taking them. She nodded, determination etched on her face, "What do we need to do?"He looked at her holding out his hand to her. "Together, we can disrupt the cannon's energy source through the Force," Kylo explained. "But it will take everything we have."As Kylo extended his hand, reaching out to her, Mia couldn't help smiling and nodding with approval. She squeezed his hand, a silent promise of her unwavering support. They both closed their eyes, focusing their energy on the task at hand. The bond between them intensified, their combined power reaching out toward the massive weapon above. Kylo lifted his hand and Mia copied his gesture. They could feel the hum of the cannon's energy, a dark, pulsing force ready to unleash its devastating power. They concentrated harder, channelling their strength and connection into a wave of energy aimed at destabilizing the weapon. The green glow of the laser beam flickered as their power clashed with the dark energy of the cannon. Sweat beaded on their foreheads, the strain of the effort almost unbearable. But they pressed on, driven by the hope of saving Chandrila and everyone on it.Suddenly, the sky erupted in a blinding flash as the cannon's energy destabilized. The green laser beam shattered, sending a violent shockwave back towards the Finalizer. The massive Star Destroyer trembled under the feedback of its own weapon's energy, unable to contain the volatile reaction. In an instant, the Finalizer exploded in a spectacular burst of light and debris, the shockwave rippling across the sky. The once-imposing flagship was reduced to a cascade of fiery fragments, illuminating the night with its demise.Exhausted but victorious, Kylo and Mia opened their eyes, their hands still clasped together. Relief washed over them as they realized they had succeeded. Kylo looked into Mia's eyes, gratitude and admiration shining in his gaze."You did it," he whispered."You did it," he repeated with the gleam of victory reflected in his eyes."No," Mia replied softly. "We did it."Mia was completely drained, and from the exhaustion in Kylo’s voice and the sweat on his brow, she knew he felt the same. But beneath the fatigue, there was something else—relief. They had done it. The weapon meant to wipe out an entire planet was gone, along with the countless lives it would have taken. The cost had been high. His Finalizer—his prized ship, his command, his past—was nothing more than burning wreckage now. She hoped he would see that it was a price worth paying.Because they had won. Together.Fiery debris streaked across the sky, a stark reminder of what had been lost. But when she looked at him, she saw admiration shining in his eyes, and in that moment, nothing else mattered. She smiled up at him, pouring every ounce of love and care she had into that simple gesture.Kylo searched her gaze, his own unreadable, then shifted his focus past her to the crowd. They were celebrating, reveling in their victory, until they noticed him.Expressions shifted. The joy on their faces dimmed, replaced with uncertainty, disbelief, even unease. He took a step back, suddenly hyper-aware of the way their eyes bore into him, of the way their energy changed the moment they saw him. Then he realized, his mask was gone. His hand flew to his face, instinct kicking in. His eyes darted to Mia."I have to go," he whispered, his voice barely carrying over the noise. He turned to leave, but froze when she reached out, gripping his hand tightly. Then, without hesitation, she faced the crowd, her voice clear and unwavering."This is Kylo Ren, Phantom of the Dark Side," she declared. "But he’s changed. He’s free. Free from the darkness that held him prisoner."She turned back to him, her eyes bright with certainty, a soft smile on her lips."Welcome home, Ben."The crowd's murmurs of uncertainty and scepticism gradually gave way to a tentative sense of acceptance. Mia's words hung in the air, and Kylo felt a flicker of hope. For the first time in a long while, he felt the possibility of redemption and belonging.Ben Solo took a deep breath, his hand still clasped in Mia's, and faced the crowd. The journey ahead would be long and challenging, but with Mia by his side, he knew he could face whatever lay ahead. Together, they would find balance and peace, and perhaps even forgiveness. She squeezed his hand and whispered, "Let's go. Together. There's no need to hide anymore." He turned his face to look at her, then slowly lowered his hand, revealing his face.Mia began to sing softly, her voice filled with emotion:"No more talk of darkness,Forget these wide-eyed fears;I'm here, nothing can harm you,My words will warm and calm you.Let me be your freedom,Let daylight dry your tears;I'm here, with you, beside you,To guard you and to guide you.Say you love me every waking moment,Turn my head with thoughts of brighter days.Say you need me with you now and always;Promise me that all you say is true,That's all I ask of you.Let me be your shelter,Let me be your light; You're safe, no one will find you,Your fears are far behind you."Kylo's eyes softened as he listened to her heartfelt promises. He felt a sense of hope and belonging that he hadn't experienced in a long time. As Mia's voice echoed around them, he felt his burdens lift, and he knew that together, they could face whatever the future held.He joined her in the song, his voice merging with hers:"All I want is freedom,A galaxy with no more night; And you, always beside me,To hold me and to guide me.Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime;Let me lead you from your solitude.Say you need me with you, here beside you;Anywhere you go, let me go too,That's all I ask of you."Mia looked at him, touching his cheek as she stood close, her eyes filled with emotion."Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime;Say the word and I will follow you.Share each day with me,Each night, each morning.Say you love me!"Kylo's heart swelled with emotion as he gazed into her eyes. He knew in that moment that she was his anchor, the light that could guide him out of the darkness. The bond between them was unbreakable, and together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead."You know I do," he whispered, his voice filled with sincerity and hope. Then they both sang together, "Love me, that's all I ask of you."He pulled her close, his eyes searching hers before he leaned down and they met in a tender kiss. The crowd, witnessing their profound connection and redemption, erupted into applause, clapping their hands as a chorus of hope and acceptance. In that moment, amidst the ruins of their past and the promise of a brighter future, they found solace in each other’s embrace.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

With the Finalizer destroyed and the immediate threat to Chandrila gone, Kylo Ren and Mia returned to the Resistance base. This journey was more than just traveling back; it was also an emotional and transformative time for Kylo. With Mia’s constant support, he began to find his way back to the light. The air inside the ship carried a quiet tension, filled with doubts that lingered between them. Kylo’s thoughts raced as he wrestled with his past actions, feeling the burden of his choices pulling at him. Mia, noticing his inner battle, reached out and took his hand, her touch bringing him back to the moment. She didn’t offer any words of comfort, knowing that sometimes silence spoke louder than anything else. When they finally arrived, the unease that had grown during the journey seemed to fade, replaced by a quiet sense of determination. The Resistance base, full of movement and chatter, seemed to slow as the ship’s ramp lowered and Kylo, now Ben Solo, stepped out.General Leia Organa awaited them, her heart filled with a mix of hope and apprehension. The years had etched lines of worry and sorrow on her face, but as she saw her son stepping off the ship, a glimmer of hope shone in her eyes.Ben moved carefully, his steps unsure, each one carrying the burden of his past and the unknown ahead. Leia paused for a moment, then hurried toward him, wrapping him in a tearful embrace. The lost son had come back, bringing with him the fragile hope of a family reunited."Welcome home, Ben," she whispered, her voice shaking with emotion. Her tears blended with his, a mix of relief, sorrow, and a silent promise of forgiveness. The members of the Resistance, initially guarded and wary, began to recognize the profound change in Ben. He reached into his pocket and retrieved his half mask, the relic that used to conceal his face. He stared at it for a moment, the mask a symbol of his dark past. His gaze then locked with Mia, who gently caressed the scar on his cheek that ran from above his eye down his throat, disappearing beneath his black tunic. She smiled at him, a gesture filled with love and encouragement. At that moment, Ben crushed the mask in his fist, the pieces falling to the ground, signifying his rejection of the dark path he once walked. With Mia steadfastly at his side, he approached the leadership, offering his expertise and seeking to atone. Poe Dameron, who had once been his adversary, stepped forward. The two men locked eyes, the past and its conflicts hanging heavy between them. Poe extended a hand, a gesture that spoke of peace and the possibility of a new beginning."We have a lot to work through," Poe said, his voice resolute, "but I believe in second chances."Ben accepted the handshake, a small but significant step towards mending old wounds.Later, Poe and Mia talked openly, their words carrying the depth of their past and the strength of their connection. Poe, noticing the unbreakable bond between Mia and Ben, found comfort in knowing that her love had guided Ben back. He realized that what he felt for Mia was meant to grow into a lifelong friendship rather than a romance."Mia," he said gently, "what we had was special and will always be a part of us. But your path is with Ben. I see that now, and I’m grateful for the friendship we’ll always have."She nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Thank you, Poe. Your support means everything to me."Beth, ever the supportive sister, stood by Mia, offering comfort and reassurance. "You followed your heart and helped save Ben. That’s something to be proud of, Mia. You’ve brought him back to the light."With the shadow of the Dark Side dissipated, Ben embarked on his journey of redemption. The Resistance slowly came to accept him, not as Kylo Ren, but as a man earnestly seeking to right his wrongs.Together, Ben and Mia embraced the future with hope, rebuilding with the Resistance. Their love, tested by darkness, emerged stronger than ever.Once lost in darkness, Ben found his way back through Mia’s love and those who still believed in him. Holding her close, they sang one last time. In shadows deep, where darkness dwelled,There was a heart that sorrow held,A soul once lost, now finds the light,Ben Solo rises from the night. He wore a mask, his face concealed,The pain within, it was revealed,But love’s pure flame, it found its mark,And guided him out from the dark. Sing once again with me, a song of hope,The path we walk, together we'll cope,Turn from the shadows, leave them behind,Ben Solo’s heart and peace, they’ll find. The power within, he once misused,In anger and hate, his heart was bruised,But now with love, he’s found his way,The dawn of a brighter, hopeful day. Sing once again with me, the song of light,Embrace the future, banish the night,For love has triumphed, darkness is gone,Ben Solo’s spirit, forever strong. The phantom of the Dark Side, he’s no more,The mask is shattered, the scars they bore,For now and ever, love will remain,In Ben’s heart, there’s no more pain. As the final notes of the song faded, they stood hand in hand, ready to face whatever the future held, together. End of Story.
