Iacon at night was exceptionally bright. Optimus missed these lights. After Cybertron had to be abandoned for

Primus knows how long

, Optimus couldn’t take her eyes off of them.

The rebuilding of the city had been a long and strenuous time. Even now, the lights in the area were only partially on, but it was enough.

Optimus had been able to explore glowing cities like Las Vegas and Paris in her time on Earth, so it was just a wonder how far they came. Maybe, she and the others could emulate some of the designs here on Cybertron.

However, that plan would have to wait. Optimus was waiting on the corner of a street for Megatron. They had promised each other to go through the shopping strip and see what had started to open up.

It was their first break since the restoration project commenced. Some of the strip still had empty lots where new buildings would be made later on.

“Did I keep you waiting?” Megatron approached. Her armor is proudly present.

“No, it’s fine. I just got here myself. Also, armor? I thought tonight was supposed to be casual?” Optimus started to walk towards the strip as Megatron followed close behind. It was weird. They used to walk side-by-side, but now it felt more easy to have one in front and one in the back. War sure made them paranoid.

“Yes, yes. You know me though. I can’t go anywhere without it. Don’t think I didn’t notice you polished off your jacket. Makes you look cute” Megatron commented. Her white and silver braids had on jewelry that gently sounded against her armor.

Optimus blushed because she polished her leather jacket to give it some life. She decided to not comment but focus on the strip.

As they headed to the stalls, the twinkling lights shined brighter off of Megatron’s pauldrons. Optimus still noticed how Megatron still kept the shine on her armor. It made her almost glow under the lights.

They stopped by multiple stalls and even got themselves some mini energon snacks. It was a crisp night, but nothing worse than they have handled before. At one point, Optimus was sure she felt the warmth radiating off Megatron's chest as they waited in line to see a jewelry stall.

The stall held many little trinkets. Some glowed in the dark while some were fashioned with different metals welded together.

Optimus’ eyes couldn’t stop looking at one ring that held two gems almost melted into each other. It was a silver frame with the center gem being almost purple if not for the outside being red and blue.

Optimus must have stared for too long before Megatron plucked the ring and motioned for Optimus to give her her hand. Optimus looked between Megatron and the ring before slowly complying. Megatron fitted it around her ring finger. It looked beautiful in the light.

Optimus admired the ring and twisted her hand left and right.

“How much for this ring and another just like this for me?” Megatron talked to the shopkeeper.

“Wait, hold on! You don’t have to get this for me!” Optimus put her hands up.

“Just think of it as reparations or a souvenir for the night. Whatever will get your processor to let this slide.” Megatron brushed off Optimus’ concerns.

After paying for the rings, they continued walking through the stalls.

“This was nice.” Optimus whispered only loud enough for Megatron to hear.

“Don’t mention it. It was… pleasant enough,” Megatron tried to shrug nonchalantly. “We still have a lot of work to do together, and you can smile even with a small thing. Maybe, our future isn’t so hopeless.”

The lights twinkled and a pair of rings shined. The fate of Iacon and the rest of Cybertron is still tossed in the air, but at least they had one night to be together.
